  • SIGSEGV   11*  segmentation violation

    I'm on a Sco Unixware 7.1.3 platform using
    WLS 7SP1 with SCO JDK1.3.1_06.
    This configuration is running at most of our stores, and has
    been running at this one store for 2 months with no problem until 4 days ago.
    When starting WLS, it keeps aborting and core dumping and restarting the WLS
    server after each core dump. Just finally got in my stdout log file (see below
    peice of log), but now crashes the unixware box.
    Has anyone else seen this problem or know what causes it?
    Thanks in advance.

    hi,
    i have a similar problem on my linux-server: i am runninig a java-program that parses a large xml-file (>20MB) and updates a database in background with the data of this xml-file. the programm starts without any problems, but after processing about the half file and allocating a lot of memory (about 400 to 500 MB) there occures the following error:
    SIGSEGV 11 (*) segmentation violation
    si_signo [11]: SIGSEGV: (*) segmentation violation

    the strange thing is that the program seemed to work correctly with smaller xml-files in former times. now the xml-files have permanetly grown and it seems to me that the programm has not enough handles or something to process the whole file.
    could it be a database-problem? i am using a db2 and before this problem appeared, i reduced the amount of the following database-parameters: DBHEAP, APP_CTL_HEAP_SZ, STMTHEAP, APPLHEAPSZ, MAXFILOP in order to reduce the "memory-waste". i also have tried to call the garbage collector more often so that memory is freed.
    can anybody help me please??

    You actually need to run it with "check -access"; memuse and leaks won't help with the crash, which happens because of illegal memory access. Hopefully, "check -access" will help you to locate the bad guy, but that's not panacea either.
    To be precise:
    - start dbx
    $ dbx <your app>
    - issue
    (dbx) check -access
    (dbx) run
    and wait for dbx to stop and report suspicious memory access.

  • SIGSEGV 11 segmentation violation - sp3 upgrade

    I get the following error while upgrading WL 6.1 from SP2 to SP3....
    I noticed someone else on this newsgroup got the same error while upgrading
    to SP2.
    Any clues on where/ why this occurs?
    thanks

    There is a good chance that you do not have your .../jdk131/bin in your PATH.
    If that doesn't do it, please file a case and I'll look for it!

    You could try increasing the max heap size we saw alot of SIGBUS 10 crashes with sp4 until we increased this value to 1024 which happens to be the default in 6.5. Turn on garbage collection statistics with -verbose:gc if you suspect this could be the problem. The stack size should be set to about 10% the size of the (entire) registry.
    Usually however these errors tend to be code related...
    Does the crash happen at the same time everyday.

  • [Solved]xfce 4.12: Display Settings - Segmentation fault (core dumped)

    Just upgraded to Xfce 4.12  from 4.10 last week I have just one big issue so far: the display settings panel doesn't work. When I click on it, nothing happens.
    If I run from terminal xfce4-display-settings I get "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" and with "gdb xfce4-display-settings" the output says "Reading symbols from xfce4-display-settings...(no debugging symbols found)...done."
    What I'm thinking of is a missing dep. Since upgraded to 4.12 I also have a problem with Docky which displays a horizontal black line with shadow on my screen. I don't know if it's related, but this is the output when I run Docky from terminal: http://pastebin.com/cT5XNvWU
    Before upgrading to 4.12, for some months, I had issues with xrandr which didn't detect my  laptop screen resolution (full hd) and I had to manually add a profile that fits my normal resolution, otherwise I would had a resolution of 640x480px (this one is shown right now in my nVidia settings in "X Screen Information" section). I don't know if it's related, but I'm just saying.
    I'm using bumblebee for my nvidia card & xf86-video-intel for my integrated graphics card. Yeah, I have hybrid graphics (Asus laptop).
    General info:
    - arch x86_64
    - kernel 3.18.6-1
    - slim display manager (just saw the warning on archwiki that this one has been abandoned)
    - bumblebee & intel driver
    - xfce 4.12
    Anyone facing the same issue?

    While not logged in, try renaming ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/display.xml. A new one will be re-created on next login. There may be something in that file creating the crash.

  • Segmentation Fault (core dumped)

    Hello.
    Guys I got an issue.
    I have a server running Solaris version 9.
    When I execute a command and it returns the result I get this message:
    Segmentation Fault (core dumped)
    for example
    df -h
    gzip
    I am also getting this messages when executing dmesg:
    Nov 11 18:39:12 TRSTSQATREMDB01 genunix: [ID 603404 kern.notice] NOTICE: core_log: logger[8730] core dumped: /var/core/core_TR STSQATREMDB01_logger_0_0_1289518751_8730
    Nov 11 18:49:35 TRSTSQATREMDB01 genunix: [ID 603404 kern.notice] NOTICE: core_log: logger[9922] core dumped: /var/core/core_TR STSQATREMDB01_logger_0_0_1289519375_9922
    Why Am I getting this messages, is it time to reboot ?
    Thanks for your help.

    It is a generic error message which is due to multiple reasons..
    1) /tmp full.
    2) Wrong Inventory locations.
    3) Wrong Library
    4) Broken softlinks.
    etc.
    We have faced one such issue recently.. Where the some softlinks under $ORACLE_HOME/oui/bin was broken.
    Please do these basic checks.
    Paste the command with error here if you are still facing issue.

    Any idea what this could be?

    Hi user609345,
    Why a bug?? It looks like the listener program is coredumping.
    Check the listenername in $TNS_ADMIN/listener.ora and try to start the listener by hand using
    lsnrctl start <listener_name>
    Any idear what could have caused this issue? Cloned your environment or is this a new install?
    Thanks

    Ah well if you're back on 1.2 then that's about as much error information as you will get.
    JDK 1.2 is way past end-of-life. There is nothing you can do here to fix this problem.
    Note: just because your application code was written for 1.2 doesn't mean it won't run on a later version of the VM. Try 1.3.1 if you don't want to jump up to 1.5 or 1.6 (but 1.3.1 will soon hit end-of-life too).
    Sorry.

  • Core Dump when calling DriverManager.getConnection

    I'm very confused and hope someone can help me out with this.
    I'm trying to make a connection to a MS SQL Server 7 and am getting a core dump when getConnection is called. No exception is thrown, just a core dump and locked session. If I run the class from it's main there is absolutly no problem, but when I do a new on the class and call it's member to establish the connection: core dump. The environment is the same in both cases. The calling class did does use a mySql connection, but I tried closing it and setting it to null with the same problem. I'm not sure if the getConnection is stepping on a socket or what it's trying to violate in memory causing the dump. This is running on a SCO Openserver 5.0.5 box (green threads). Why it runs stand-alone and not when called from another class has got me tangled... Thread problem? I've tried several SQL drivers, they all do the same thing.
    Anyway, here's a snippet from the java class:
    try
    {Class.forName(myForName);
    // core dump, next line
    Connection myConn = DriverManager.getConnection(myUrl, myUser, myPass);
    // never get's here
    Statement myStmt = myConn.createStatement();
    catch (Exception e) // modified for this post
    {system.out.println(e.toString());
    Here's the dump printed to the monitor (2>&1)
    SIGSEGV 11* segmentation violation

    I have a similar problem with establishing a connection through JNI. Have you resolved your problem?
    Here's mine.
    In java, I have a class that provides an interface to a mysql database. The java programs that call this interface work fine.
    When I try to call the java interface from C++ through JNI, I get the following output -- some debug statements sprinkled through also. I am assuming that the JVM is missing something at runtime that is there in my JRE. The classpaths match , etc. Exception handling in java and in JNI code are not providing any more detail.. Thanks for comments!!
    Created jvm
    Got KBModel and String classes

  • 9iAS Bug? - Segmentation Violation - ApplicationServerThread

    Hi,
    I am getting this message output on the server after which the server stops responding to any requests.
    SIGSEGV 11 segmentation violation

    Sometimes this happens after I get this error:
    com.evermind.server.http.HttpIOException: Broken pipe
    Really need some urgent help on this.
    Thanks in advance.

    There does not seem to be a bug in the application.
    If I am giving the following command which needs to check where the core dump got made
    $ file core

    this is giving java as the reason for the file dump.

    Appreciate your reply on this one.
    Thanks,
    Yogesh
    Hi Yogesh,
    You've crashed the JVM. There is obviously a HUGE bug in your application.
    Fix the bug and you won't crash the JVM. The error message indicates
    that the JVM is trying to access memory it isn't allowed to access.
    In other words, I'm guessing that the JVM is trying to allocate memory
    in order to execute your java application -- but your application requires
    so much memory that the JVM is trying to grab memory that the operating
    system isn't willing to give it -- and presto,"Segment Violation".
    Now, if you want more detailed assistance in how to solve this problem,
    then I advise you to follow Jeff's suggestion, and supply more details.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.
