Silent / Mute AC3 track after encoding in Compressor 2

Hi,
I exported audio from a 2hr 27min time line in FCP 4.5 to create an .aif file.
I then transcoded it to an .AC3 file on my macbook using Compressor 2. When I listen to it in VLC, it all sounds perfectly fine. But when I import it into DVD Studio Pro 3, it is silent / mute.
I have looked back over this forum and found several people reporting similar problems, without any solution.
Grateful for any suggestions.
Thanks
Jamie

Here is another possibility. If you added you ac3 to a menu or track and then made additional corrections in FCP and recompressed them to the same name, DVDSP has a bit of trouble updating sometimes....not sure why, but a quick solution is to re compress again, but with a different name. then relpace the old one with the new one in DVDSP. same thing happens with video sometimes.

  • Problems with ac3-audio not encoded in apple's compressor

    Hi everyone,
I'm working with DVD Studio Pro 4.0 and when encoding audio with the compressor into ac3, there were hardly any problems.
Now I have to get along with external ac3-files, not encoded with compressor. Settings, format etc. are identical to the compressor-created files; despite of these similar settings, I now expericene a very low sound (about 3x lower), not comparable to the volume of the compressor encoded files.
Has anyone an idea on this subject?
    Thanks.

  • MPEG-2 file with AC3 5.1 audio: no audio (neither in current video playback, nor after encode), but plays okay in QuickTime X

Latest Mac Mini, 8GB RAM, two 256GB SSD
    Compressor 4.1.1
I have an MPEG-2 file with AC3 5.1 audio which plays in QuickTime X as expected.
I have a second MacBook Pro with Compressor 4.1.1, where the audio is fine - both as current video playback of the source, and post-encode using Apple Devices HD (best quality) setting.
However in the Mac Mini Compressor there is no audio (neither in current video playback of the source, nor after encode using Apple Devices HD (best quality) setting).
    Troubleshooting
    - main difference between machines is the Mac Mini has Elgato software (EyeTV and Game Capture HD)
    - I've checked the QuickTime components are same on both machines, except for EyeTV audio component on Mac Mini
    - there are no plug-in audio components
    - I've repaired permissions using Disk Utility
    - I moved Compressor to trash, deleted compressor plist files, and reinstalled

  • Blu Ray encoding using Compressor - successful replication

Now that Compressor offers Blu ray encoding that apparently pass verification for Blu ray authoring has anybody actually used it and successfully sent a disc to be replicated??? What kind of results are you getting out of Compressor?
Here's my thinking - as Apple seem to be absolutely NOT going to be offering a Blu ray authoring solution then (like many others) I am looking at Netblender's solution which has a proven track record. Now I can buy their authoring solution and also they now offer an encoding solution. Sweet...
But what I was thinking was it is always useful to have a second encoder to hand - as Netblender can take encodes from Compressor. So just wondered what the results were like.

There's apparently some question as to whether Compressor 3.5 encodes Blu-ray as well as Compressor 3.05. Sorry ;-(
My contributors have reported that a Share... export from FCP7 provides far better encoding quality than the current version of Compressor 3.5
However, in general, Compressor streams (AVC and Dolby Digital) have been verified as "stream compliant" using the standard BD pre-replication verifiers. HOWEVER - PLEASE NOTE THAT USING AC3 IN ADOBE ENCORE WILL RESULT IN A NON-VERIFIABLE PROJECT. Encore CS4 throws non-compliant ghost PGCs, which contain AC3 content that will NOT pass replication verification.
Yes, they know about this... No, I don't know when there will be a fix offered.

I'm not sure I follow your words Fuzzynormal. You've helped by offering the insight that my issue in Logic Pro 9 is not a bug but a feature. But fell short of enlightenment by being a judge of character and of how one should interact in this forum. You insinuate that I haven't tried to solve the issue on my own when in fact I have. These forums are always my last resort. You further suggest that I am complaining. This is not a complaint. It is a genuine issue that I cannot figure out. • Audio levels after encoding

I have a project with stereo music and mono announce track "left filled" onto the right also.
After encoding to DVD, some of the music sections seem to dissapear. All the music is softer than it should be.
    any ideas???
    thanks

In the Audio Mixer Panel, what are the average Levels of your individual Tracks? While I mix to the actual Audio, and only use Levels to point out problems, you might gain a clue there.
Also, is this a straight Mixdown to a Stereo Master, or do you have any Track Mapping used?
I've yet to encounter any noticeable difference between my PrPro Audio and a burned DVD.
    Good luck,

  • Why am I unable to delete the default track (which seems to act as the master, right?) after making a rough mix?  Is it possible to delete the default track after having rendered a mix?

Why am I unable to delete the default track (which seems to act as the master, right?) after making a rough mix?  Is it possible to delete the default track after having rendered a mix?  I did a rough mix and now cannot change the song as the tracks that were a part of the rough mix seem to remain in the song even though I mute the tracks for a new mix.  For instance, I played and recorded a different bass line.  Muted the original, but when trying to create the new mix I can hear the original bass line even though I have muted that track.  It seems to remain in the previous master (default) track.  Please send help.  Thank you.

Before answering your question, you have to make sure you understand the difference between the different track types in GarageBand.
Tracks, you record your music on
There are three types of those Tracks.
MIDI Tracks (aka Software Instrument Tracks)
Audio Tracks (aka Real Instrument Tracks)
Drummer Track (only one per Project)
    Global Tracks
These are the Tracks that can be shown/hidden at the top of the Tracks Area for specific purposes.
    Arrangement Track
    Movie Track
    Transposition Track
    Tempo Track
    Master Track
This Track can also be shown/hidden in the Tracks Area. Please note, you cannot delete that Track, only hide it, similar to the Global Tracks
Regarding the Tracks you record your music on,  you can delete any of those. It doesn't matter if you created them or there are part of a Template (maybe that  is what you refer to as the default track). Once you delete the last Track, the "New Track Window" will pop up to add a new track.
I will explain all that in much more detail in my manual "GarageBand X - How it Works".
    Hope that helps

  • Blocky video after encoding AVI

Hi there, I encoded an AVI of pretty good almost DVD quality, after encoding the AVI to a DVD using IDVD 6, the video is blocky around the edges....
Why is this? IDVD does not have any advanced features allowing you to play with the encoder settings so i don't what to do...
If I were to convert the AVI to MPEG2 using another application and then re-burn my DVD, would IDVD automatically skip the encoding process as I would be using a DVD MPEG2 format???
Anyone know of any other decent apps for making DVD's?
Thanks for the help, I truly appreciate it.

GIGO does not apply in this case
    I bet it does...
the AVI was only 1hr 45min so it's not too long
...and what was the file size in MB? Note that if it were in DV video format, the file size would have been about 21 GB - I'll bet your AVI file was very highly compressed and no where near this file size.
What was the on-screen image size? Many AVI files I've seen use the old MPG-1 size of 320x240 pixels - just 1/4 the size of the image iDVD expects to see.
Maybe DVD studio pro is the answer i'm looking for!!
iDVD uses the same Compressor application that DVD SP does.

  • Video from middle of track repeated at end of track after build.

    DSP3.0.2
    QT6.5.2
I been using DSP3 for years and haven't encountered this rather odd problem before.
I have a basic DVD with menu and 3 tracks. Each track is about 30 mins. I've placed a chapter marker at 5 min intervals throughout each track and one chapter marker 1 second before the end of each track.
From the menu you can jump to any track by selectiing it's button.
The end jump for each track is to jump to the next track in turn, with the 3rd jumping back to the menu. In simulation everything works fine.
After the build which completes successfully I find that track 1 and track 2 are fine, however at the end of track 3, 5 mins from between two of track 3s chapter markers, is repeated.
I deleted all the chapter markers in track 3 and re-created them as before to no avail, same result.
Has anyone any idea what's happening?
Why would 5 mins of video be repeated at the end of the track?
    Many Thanks.

    Thanks Jason.
I may have explained it poorly, but the original m2v file didn't have any footage repeated at the end after encoding the MOV footage. What you describe is obviously possible, but it isn't what was happening here.
The repeated footage only appeared after the project build. It as though something in the build process decided to go back and repeat some footage at the end of that track. Weird.
Anyway I eventually re-encoded all the m2v from the project, (after deleting all the original), using the same settings as before, same bit rate etc, and tried again. This time the build didn't repeat any footage atthe end of the track.
So all is fine now, but as to what caused the problem, I have no idea.

  • Audio Drops After Encoding

    Hi all,
I created a video in Premiere and sent it to AME to encode. It was a basic edit and everything worked on the timeline before I sent it to encode. After encoding to a 720p 59.94fps H.264 Quicktime, the last 2 minutes of audio on the video disappear. I've checked the audio track mixer window and that track is panned center.. The audio plays fine in Premiere.. I just don't know why it disappeared after being encoded. Can anyone help me to figure out why this happened? It caused some grief for me at work. Thanks!
    -Cody

First of all, what version of Premiere Pro and AME are you using on what platform (Win or Mac)?
Can you try exporting your sequence directly from Premiere Pro without sending to AME?  Does it work?  If it does not work, you may want to try clearing media cache.  When none of Adobe applications are running, could you try deleting the media cache folders called "Media Cache" and "Media Cache Files" at
    Mac: /Users/<your user name>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common
    Win: <OS drive>:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common
Then, open the project in Premiere Pro.  Please wait all import process to be done.  See the Premiere Pro main window's bottom right (see the screenshot below).  Please wait till all progress to be done.  Can you properly export now?

  • Adobe Media Encoder CS4 White Overlay after encoding

For some reason, when converting a .mov to .mp4 in AME, after encoding, the .mp4 video appears to have a white transparent (~50%) overlay after about 3 seconds that persists until the video ends. The beginning looks fine, but the overlay appears and the video is ruined. The white is NOT in the original.
    Original video specs:
11 second .mov, 1196px X 528px (non standard dimension, I know, video created from microscope, but plays perfectly on several systems, Mac/PC)
    No Audio
    Encoding to:
    .mp4
    H.264
    600px X 265px (same aspect ratio)
    24 fps
    Field order: None (Progressive)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pixels
    No audio, No filters
Is there something I am missing? Been at this for 2 days, its driving me mad!

What player(s) show the white overlay, and on what operating system & version? Can you give us access to sample clips (original and AME encodes) or at least post screenshots?

  • Skipping track after less than 1 second

I have downloaded iOS7, and I tried to delete some track from iTunes that I never listen to. Somehow, several of the songs on my iPhone have now started to skip onto the next track after less than a second of playing. I can still play the songs from iTunes on my PC, so I seem to have done something with the phone and I don't know what! I changed the settings from 'Phone' to 'Library' in the 'shared' music menu - I think that's what caused the problem, as now it seems fine having just changed it back. It's so frustrating that you can't get rid of music you don't want on your phone! There must be a way of doing it without shelling out for Match.

Do you have a circle with a red square next to some of your songs in your music app on your phone?

  • Mouse flickers after encoding. Shifts. Lags. Viewer and timeline.

After encoding, noticed that the mouse cursor flickers while watching the encoding in FCP 7 viewer. Parts of the encoding had jerky motions. A previous time, this led to color shifts and other anomolies in the canvas, which disappeared after a cold boot.
Used uncompressed 8-bit PAL codec (yes, we're in SD), but I think that another time it occurred after encoding an M2V file.
Today once the FCP viewer with the encoding was closed, the mouse stopped flickering.
This is the second or third time I have had this with or after encodings over the past several months.
Sorry for the lack of detail. I have not troubleshot this carefully. I don't know exactly where or even if the encoding is actually damaged. The previous time, it became worse the longer the machine stayed on. That time, even the timeline in FCP had the same problem, and it seemed like the sequence had been seriously damaged, but later after a cold restart, there was no damage to the timeline.

I have no clue why or what the CHUD.framework has to do with purging the RAM.

  • Audio level higher than needed after encoding

    Hi,
    I'm editing a film.
Voice over level is set to maximum for most part of it. It sounds as it supposed to sound after encoding.
There are several parts of the film that are supposed to be quiet. They are set as quiet on the timeline and do sound quiet during preview playback.
The problem is after I export the film to mpeg (I've also tried many other formats) the sound level in those quiet parts is automatically raised to very high. Those pieces sound almost as loud as the voice over. Looks like Premiere or Media Encoder have some automated audio level normalization or something like this.
I've tried to find encoding settings that are perhaps responsible for that, and I've also looked up for a solution on Adobe forums -- but I couldn't find anythind appropriate.
    I'm using Premiere CS5 on a PC.
    Thanks in advance!

    Igor,
Always glad to help, even if not directly.
I use MediaPlayer Classic HC for playback testing on the computer, and it seems to handle my Audio better than WMP, and some others. Do not know KM, so cannot comment on it.
I also edit Audio by ear, with but a glance at dB levels, from time to time.
Now, though you're probably way ahead of it, this ARTICLE gives some tips on Audio Levels, and some different methods of adjusting them.
