Silent PDF Printing 64 bit Windows - 32 bit Application

I have a windows 7 64 bit machine at work and am having issues getting the Adobe PDF printer to recognize the registry key for silent printing. I'm using Acrobat X. It works fine from a 64 bit application. I tested the 64 bit version of wordpad and it will pick the key (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Distiller\PrinterJobControl) for it's application name and print automatically. If I use the 32 bit version it won't pick up what's in the registry for that application name. The main goal here is to be able to print to pdf from Access 03 (yeah I know). The code works on a 32 bit system. Thanks in advance for any help.

  • SGD 4.6 - PDF Printing on Windows Clients not working

    Dear all
Installed SGD 4.6 with Win2008 Terminal Server.
PDF printing works from Mac clients, but not from Windows XP.
    Is this a known issue?
    kind regards

New Default PDF Printer Driver for Windows Applications
The default printer driver used for Portable Document Format (PDF) printing from Windows application servers is now HP Color LaserJet 2800 Series PS. This change was made to provide support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 application servers.
In previous releases, the default PDF printer driver was HP Color LaserJet 8500 PS. If you are upgrading from an installation that uses this printer driver, SGD is reconfigured automatically to use the new default printer driver. If you are upgrading from an installation where you have configured SGD to use a different printer driver, your existing configuration is preserved on upgrade. If you are using using Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, or Windows XP application servers, the new default printer driver results in the PDF printer not being mapped.

  • Can't create Adobe PDF printer on Win7 64 bit

I'm running a newDell Optiplex 990 with Windows 7 64 bit in a large company. Our IT guy just installed CS6 and everything seems to work fine -- EXCEPT - when we go to Devices and Printers/Add printer, there's no Adobe PDF driver (are they still called drivers?) to install as a printer.
We've reinstalled/repaired Acrobat Pro 10 several times and it still doesn't appear. We've never gotten a message indicating a problem.
I've done a lot of searching on this forum and elsewhere and found what seems to be the answer for many people which I'll copy here. Please note that when we get to bullet #4, there's nothing like Documents\*.pdf (Adobe PDF) to select -
    Manually install the PDF Printer
Click Start >  Control Panel > Devices and Printers
    Select Add a printer
    Select Add a local printer
Check Use an existing port and select Documents\*.pdf (Adobe PDF) from the drop down.
    Click Next
    Click the Have Disk… button
    Click the Browse… button
    Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF
Select AdobePDF.inf from the list, then click the OK button
You will see many Adobe PDF Converters in the list, however count six down from the top and click Next (you may need to try this numerous times to find the correct Converter from the list that works with your version of Windows)
Name your printer, e.g. Adobe PDF
Follow the rest of the prompts and your PDF printer should now be installed correctly
Two additional details that may be significant:
    1. We dug into the folder mentioned in bullet #8 but there wasn't an Xtras folder. I have a similar system at home and was able to find the Xtras folder. I copied that and placed it into the same spot on my work PC but no luck.
    2. Our IT department is rolling out Viewfinity in order to lock down PCs from users installing "stuff". The IT guy who did the install was logged in as an admin but still was unable to install Adobe PDF.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • CUPS PDF PRINTING IN WINDOWS OVER REMOTE DESKTOP - PRINTER NOT LISTED

I am running OS X 10.6.2. I connect remotely using windows remote desktop / terminal services to various windows machines. For the XP and Windows 2003 Server 32 bit systems I have no problems with printing pdf documents from the remote windows system back to my mac using CUPS PDF. I don't have to install anything on the remote windows computer. However, for Windows 2003 Server 64 bit and Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, the CUPS PDF printer does not appear in the printer list. I tried installing the Laserwriter 8500 print driver (which apparently CUPS uses) and attaching to a unused TS printing port. The printer appears in the list but it won't print, and it's obviously not attaching to my computer.
I can't upgrade my mac operating system until I resolve a keyboard driver issue with 10.6.3 and above. Any suggestions?

I am having a similar issue. I'm using Remote Desktop to connect to a 2008 R2 server and am trying to use PDFWriter as a redirected printer to create a PDF. It is only working after I check print to file, save the file (which it creates an XPS file that is not compatible), then I uncheck print to file, click print, and then it creates the pdf file I need.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Basically - I need to have a "PDF" printer because the print window is on the remote server and it doesn't have the save as pdf option.
    Thanks.

  • In what way is iTunes for 64-bit windows 64-bit?

I keep finding conflicting info on this topic.  There appears to be a version of iTunes for 64-bit Windows, but task manager shows itunes.exe as being 32-bit.
In what way is this installer 64-bit?  Does it install 64-bit drivers for iOS devices and iTunes, but the program is still 32-bit?

The itunes.exe process itself is 32-bit (on a 64-bit install). Most of the iTunes program files are also 32-bit.
The miniplayer is 64-bit, and there are 64-bit plugins for Outlook. (You'll see those items in the iTunes folder in your "Program files" rather than in the iTunes folder in your "Program files (x86)".)
The GEAR drivers itunes uses for burning will be the 64-bit versions on a 64-bit system.
The iPod service will be 64-bit on a 64-bit system.
Apple Mobile Device Support is 64-bit (so you'll have the 64-bit Apple Mobile Device Service, and usbaapl64.sys and netaapl64.sys rather than usbaapl.sys and netaapl.sys, on the 64-bit system.)
Some of the bonjour componentry on the 64-bit install will be 64-bit.
Most everything else is 32-bit (QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Application Support).
(Apologies for inaccuracies ... it's been a wee while since I checked the noir-household 64-bit Vista box for locations. The precise details of what is 32-bit and 64-bit can change between versions. For example, one of the big changes between the itunes 8.x 64-bit versions and the itunes 9.x 64-bit versions was the iPod Service going 64-bit.)

  • Acrobat 8 PDF printing with Windows 8.1/MS office 2013

I upgraded computer to Windows 8.1 and MS office professional 2013 and reinstalled adobe acrobat 8.
When I try to create pdf files from office 2013 document (Excel, Word, Publisher), computer freezes when window opens to select pfd document destination.
I tried opening office document in acrobat and try to create pdf file. I get pdf maker missing at this point.
Before updating computer I ran compatibility tool and it indicated my acrobat 8.3.1 was compatible with Windows 8.1; however noted that I needed to go to adobe website for help with adobe ExtendScript toolkit 2.  I don’t know what adobe ExtendScript toolkit 2 is and if it is associated with Adobe Acrobat or CS3.

I have no idea about the extend tool. You need to update to the latest version of AA 8, but it appears you are there with 8.3.1. You should print to the Adobe PDF printer. OFFICE 2013 is not compatible with the AA8 PDF Maker. So far I have only seen one person suggesting success with AA8 and Win8.1. If you can give details about your problem, we might be able to help, but you may not be successful. Only time and trial will tell.

  • Adobe PDF Printer on Windows 2003 OS

We have Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard installed on a Windows 2003 server. I need to create a PDF printer port for the Distiller printer.
I go to properties for the Distiller printer and select the ports tab. Then click add port. Then select the PDF Port type and click New Port. At this point I get the message "Port cannot be added. The request is not supported".
Does anyone know what is causing this? We have re-installed Acrobat and still get the same result.

Probably not. The oldest version I have heard of working on Win7 is AA8. If you can get AA6 installed, you might be able to use watched folders in Distiller and change the printer to default to file, rather than a PDF port where the major problem lies.

  • Problem installing PDF printer on Windows 7

I'm trying to install the PDF printer on my computer using the CS3 disk and it's not working.  Any ideas?

As far as I know you have to install Acrobat at activate it. You might ask in the CS forum.

  • UPGRADED TO ADOBE 11.0.06 AND CAN NO LONGER PRINT PDF'S RUNNING WINDOWS 64 BIT.  SAME ON 2 LAPTOPS

When i hit print a pdf document since i upgraded , no document goes to my printer Q...nothing happens?
    Any fixes?
Same is hapening on my wifes computer.

Wow! At least it's not just me!
I've been trying to do various tests, and now my results are a bit different:
    Going off Candace's notes:
    1) Doesn't work for me. This is what I used to do and want to do again: create a PDF from any application by clicking Print (eg, the Print link on web page) or pressing command-P. No file is created now.
    2) I didn't even know this option existed. It worked for me, but I don't want to print my documents there. I want to be prompted for a name and folder of my choosing in the dialog box.
    3) Oddly, this morning after reading Candace's response, I now only get prompted with one dialog box, not two. Again, I don't want to do this. I want it to work as before where after invoking Print I would be offered a dialog box asking me what to name the file and in which folder to create it.
Thanks, Candace! I appreciate your post!

  • Access Windows Registry for Silent PDF Printing

    Hi All,
I am trying to print a form (created in Livecycle Designer ES2) silently to PDF upon the click of (javascript) button on the form. I have Win XP and Acrobat 9 Pro. I feel close to achieving the goal however after some time and effort I am not sure the approach I am leaning toward is possible. So far I have the following:
    1. By following the Acrobat SDK / JS for Acrobat API reference I have been able to use the PrintParams object to set print properties including the page(s) to print and printer selection, however the code only works if, for the fileName property, I specify file type as postscript (.ps), when .pdf is used it does not work. JS used on click_event of my form button:
    var myDoc = event.target;
    var pp = myDoc.getPrintParams();
    pp.interactive = pp.constants.handling.none;
    pp.fileName = "/C/Test.ps";
    pp.printerName = "Adobe PDF";
    pp.firstPage = 2;
    myDoc.print(pp);
This works however I really want the filename to be something like "/C/Test.pdf" which does not work
    2. I have since learned that the windows registry...Acrobat Distiller\PrinterJobControl can be manually modified so Adobe knows where to send the output file:
    Registry folder: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Distiller\PrinterJobControl
I created new string under above folder with properties below:
         String value name: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acorbat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe
         String value data: C:\Test.pdf
The approach in 2. works in combination with the code in 1. (without the pp.filename property being specified) but the registry string would need to be manually created each time before printing which is not practical.
Is anyone able to advise whether or not it is possible to create a new registry string using Javascript (looks like there are quite a few VBA examples of this for use with MSAccess) from acrobat? or maybe another way to print to a specified file to PDF using JS from Acrobat?
Any help or advice is much appreciated,
    Kind regards,
    Adam

So many security issues for the general public.
You path name is not considered a "Safe Path", as it is a root directory and since many systems have system control files in the root directory, Adobe has blocked the access to this directory for security reasons.
"Silent Printing" is possible to printer over the Internet and is considered a security risk, but you can write a special application level JavaScript function that could provide this on a single system.
"Save as .."  is also considered a security risk and blocked except when a special application user written function is used.
See the Acrobat JavaScript API Reference for more information about safe paths and silent printing and saving along with other restricted actions.

  • Cannot print to PDF Printer in Windows server 2003 x64 (Adobe 9 STD)

    Hi everyone,
I'm running into a very odd issue. We are using Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 in our environment. Recently, I install the x64 bit version of Citrix on top of Windows Server 2003 x64.
The problem that we are experience right now is that when user open a WORD or EXCEL document and try to print to PDF. The SAVE AS windows shows up to allow users to save, but nothing happens afterward. In another word, no PDF file is created.
However, if I ask the user to right click on the file (in windows explorer) and choose Convert to PDF, then the conversion go through.
Do you know a fix for this?

You might read the EULA and confirm the issue I have mentioned. I might not be correct in my estimate, but just gave a sounds like opinion. If it is a violation, then removing it is wise. Typically, Acrobat must be installed on each individual machine. There are multiple license options and server options, but you would need to contact Adobe for more information on those areas. Hope you can get them to talk to you in such a case.

  • Pdf printing problem encountered in specific applications in the workspace.

    Hi,
I am experiencing this problem which i am not able to figure out.
After installing and configuring the BI publisher, for the newer applications i develop printing option works fine.
But for the applications which were already present in the workspace before installing BI Publisher, when I press the download button(which should branch to the url specified in the report query), it is directed to the specified url but the page is blank. I do not get any pdf attachment for downloading.
Could that be a problem in configuring the BI Publisher?
    Thanks.

    Hi Paulo ,
Following information might help you to resolve the issue.
An Acrobat PDF document generated from Web Intelligence XI Release 2 does not print correctly from some older Xerox printers. Some of the cells do not display the data that is there.
Business Objects 5.1.x uses the PDF v1.2 conversion engine. BusinessObjects XI Release 2 uses PDF v1.5. Therefore, the fonts are rendered as TrueType in the resulting PDF file. To confirm this, open the PDF in Acrobat Reader and click File > Document Properties > Font tab.
A PDF generated from BusinessObjects 5.1.x will have the font type as Type 1. A PDF generated from BusinessObjects XI Release 2 will have the font type as TrueType.
As per the product group, it states that this is by design, as there can be other regression issues for using the older PDF conversion engine and Type 1 fonts.
The printing problem has not been reported with newer printers.

  • 64 bit Windows, 64 Bit Office, 32 bit database, 160 headaches

    Hi all!
I'm hoping someone can give me some pointers here. The setup I'm using is as follows:
    Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1
    Office 2010 x64
    Oracle 10g 10.2.0 32 bit client
    Oracle 10g 32 bit database
    Java 7 Update 25 (64 bit), version 7.0.250
Java SE Development Kit 7 Update (64 bit), version 1.7.0.250
(Also just downloaded SQL Developer 4, but that's a different story)
...and I'm trying to create an ODBC connecton in Excel. Now - obviously I can't use 32 bit ODBC in 64 bit Excel, as it's the wrong architecture type. I've been searching around and trying to answer the following questions:
Can I have separate 64 bit ORacle drivers just sitting in a folder by themselves, and use those to communicate with a 32 bit Oracle DB?
If so, do they exist anywhere for download?
I've tried downloading ODAC10203x64.zip, but when unpacked and opened, I get an error saying "Java 2 platform standard edition binary has stopped working", and I get no further. Further questions are:
What does that error mean? Can it be remedied?
If not, is it possible just to unpack all the jar files, find the drivers in there, register them and use them that way?
    Thanks in advance!
    James

Your forgetting that Apple called this a cutting edge product and then failed to support it on cutting edge hardware (v64). The fact that the call center is telling people to roll back to 10 year old technology would be like Microsoft telling iTunes users to roll back OSx. That's not what an early adopter or tech enthusiast wants to hear.
It just appears out of step with a company looking towards the future. I'll bet it wasnt a business decision but a test issue where the Apple Test team chose to cut support because there were too many bugs and not enough time to fix them.
Bottom line, rather than take the "I Hate Microsoft" line, how about recognize a gap in delivery?
