Silent switch doesn't do silent?

Curious.
If you turn on the silent switch, alert sounds are off from the speaker. Downloaded/purchased apps with audio should be mute too.
Strangely, apps like Aurora Feint, Cannon Challenge and Fire Drop will play sound off the speakers. Other apps like Chopper, Pool, MotionX Dice, Blackjack 21 have muted audio. Even AOL Radio and the iPod feature will play sound off the speakers when the silent switch is on.
Shouldn't turning on the silent switch mute all audio coming out from the speaker?
Wonder if it's a software or hardware issue. Don't wanna do Software Restore until someone tries out the silent switch on and don't hear audio coming out from the speaker with the apps mentioned here.

IPhone ring/silent switch doesn't work.

Weird problem. My colleague has an iPhone 3G which worked fine for over a year. But recently it developed a problem, its ring/silent switch doesn't really do anything. Earlier it showed an image on the screen notifying the change of mode. But now nothing happens.
The phone was not dropped and was not exposed to any shock as it is permanently kept on his desk, he never takes it anywhere (yes, even I find that weird ).
What could be the problem? He's very worried. Can someone help please?

hope your problem is sorted but if not you could try the following tip i posted to a similar question:
for anyone who's iphone buttons (hardware) are not working, there is something you could try w/out taking your phone apart.
go to settings --> general--> accessibility-->turn on assistive touch
this results in a small on screen touch activated version of your home button popping up on your screen - press it to see options such as : home. if you press it then select device, you will see further options such as mute. hope this helps.. would love to know how you go...

Hold switch doesn't work

got my new iPod, applied my invisible shield, and the come to find out that the hold switch doesn't work
so i drained the battery completely, recharged it, and it started working. but now, out of no where, it stopped working again. just found it on hold and playing in my jacket pocket.
so this time, i tried doing a software restore and drained the battery once (though i didn't let it sit as long as i did last time before charging again) and its still no go. i'm draining it again, and its nearly dead, but still trys to turn on if you press the menu button even if the hold switch is turned on.
anyone had a similar issue? any ideas?

I guess you may need to get it replaced with new one.
Just visit Apple store, if you live by.
Or you can call Apple.
I saw other people's threads complaining hold switch malfunction.
I believe Apple is currently offering no-question repalcement event on any hardware related 5G iPod/video.

Iphoe 3g power switch doesn't appear to work

I have an older 3g. The power switch doesn't seem to work, so I can't turn it off. Nor can I re-boot it.
Neither holding the power switch nor the home and power switches together seem to have any effect.
Any ideas what to do next?

LOVE LOVE LOVE my iPhone so far, but ringer switch doesn't stop all sounds?

With exception of a few concerns like somewhat low speakerphone and earpiece volume, no non-pinch zooming in maps, not being able to expand email contacts (to see the actual address), not having any auto-fill in Safari, and some stability issues (a couple Safari crashes on complex sites - to be expected until they collect enough bug data and make a patch)... I love my iPhone! After updating my OS & iTunes, activation took only a few minutes (early evening of the 29th) since I was an existing account holder. I did have a corporate discount on my plan and was worried I would be denied, but it went through just fine - fwew!
So then, I'm in a movie theatre today during a dramatic, quiet passage, with the ringer switch off (I'm so polite! <bg>), and low and behold, here comes a clever marimba roll. Having not heard this other than in the ringer setup area, I wasn't sure what it was (still not). Hitting the sleep button on top didn't do anything... it bleeped 3 times, almost sending me out of the theatre in embarrassment. I don't have to go into the settings and turn off all the notices do I? The ringer off is supposed to stop ALL sounds, per Apple's site. Anyone experience this or have a solution?

Per the manual, the switch doesn't stop the alarm clock from going off. Which is set to marimba by default.

Nexus 3548 Switch doesn't recognize command " vtp mode Server / Client"

Hi Community.
I have a brand new Nexus 3548 switch. And I did the vtp setup:
vtp version 2
vtp password ******
vtp domain *****
Every thing is ok, but If I use the command "vtp mode server" the switch doesn't know that command. Even it doesn't know the "vtp mode" subcommand?
What's the problem ?

The Nexus 3548 supports only Transparent mode:
Step 5 vtp mode {transparent| off} Sets the VTP mode to transparent or off.

How can I do a silent install of Firefox 23 since the -ms switch doesn't work?

I have been able to do a silent install of all the previous versions of Firefox using the -ms switch. But when I use it on the new version, the user interface comes up and it never did that before. I have tried different silent switches but non of them worked.

Not the most experienced at this but are you using the stub installer, maybe you can try the classic installer and try again?

Hi, I have an iPhone 3Gs covered by warranty and I would like to know if Apple changes my iPhone if my Silent mode swithcer doesn't work?? (if my English isn't very good is because I'm Italian xD)

IPhone 3GS silent switch doesn't silence the device

I recently dropped my iPhone 3GS from the desk in my bedroom. I checked to see if it worked fine, and it did. No scratches or nicks.
After that, I found that the Silent switch does not work. I flip it down and receive no notification that the phone is on silent, no on-screen & vibrate notification. So, I tested it by calling my phone from the home phone - and my iPhone 3GS rang and vibrated.
I checked the settings and I even did a reset. Should I do a full reset (Erase All Content and Settings option)?

If the switch was damaged with the drop, doubtful that restoring your iPhone with iTunes will resolve the problem,
No need to to erase all content and settings with the iPhone since doing so will require syncing your iPhone with iTunes afterwards, and is a secure erase which will take an hour or two.
You can try restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup - sync your iPhone with iTunes immediately before to update your iPhone's backup and any data that is kept synchronized. If no change after that, the next option is restoring your iPhone as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.

My iPad wont rotate to landscape also in games I can't rotate to steer like in real racing 2 hd, the gyroscope doesn't work also the side switch doesn't work on my iPad so it can go silent

Can someone please help me, I think it's the hardware because when I quit the game the iPad wouldn't rotate to portrait. I tried restarting it but it doesn't, also tried turning it on and off and that didn't work either so I think it's a hardware defect

Is there a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator ? If there is, then depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (rotation lock or mute notifications), then you can lock/unlock the rotation by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. [SOLVED] SLiM env switching doesn't work

Hello,
so today I wanted to try a different desktop environment, I already had set everything up a while ago in the slim.conf and xinitrc but the F1 doesn't do anything and it always starts a xfce session.
The thing is though, that back then when I actually changed the 2 configs the switching worked fine and according to the SLiM article on the arch wiki nothing has changed in the way how you configure this.
So is this a bug in recent version or did the config file format change or the files you need to modify?

there is nothing listed at all and when pressing F1 nothing happens either, when in the past the selected DEs name showed up on screen.
my .xinitrc looks exactly like the example on the SLiM archwiki page, just without the entries of the other DEs I don't have installed. I am also pretty sure it's not even an issue of the xinitrc since SLiM doesn't even display any DEs, it just starts xfce after entering the password.
EDIT: hm, I think the "sessiondir" setting was just missing, readded that and now it works. Odd though that it wasn't there anymore.

List Of Values Switcher doesn't work fine here

I tried a new List Of Values Switcher feature, in jdev11g R, and i tried andrejusb's example( http://andrejusb.blogspot.com/2008/10/multiple-lovs-per-attribute-in.html ), but it doesn't work

I did find this in an email I sent out after I got this working:
"An important item to note is that when selecting a Default LOV, it appears as if the radio button does not determine which LOV is default. It is always the first item in the list (took me a bit to figure that little gem out)."

N97 Slide switch doesn't always turn on the back l...

New N97, when I lock the phone and try to unlock it, the back light doesn't always turn on. I have to slide the switch two or 4 more times to get the back light to turn on.

when the phone is lock then unlocked the light light doesnt come back on and anything u press doesnt turn it back on but the slider to lock and reunlock.
Example If it lock my n07 wait 10 seconds (or until end and send lights go off) try to unlock the backlight wont come back on and while that backlight is off if i press the menu, open keybroad, any of the qwerty keys or even the power button the back light will still remain off. The only thing that seems to turn back on the backlight for me is locking then unlocking.

Can anyone esle having this problem can confirm that while the back light off try menu, open keybroad, qwerty keys and power button to reactivate the backlight.

Command-Tab App Switcher doesn't work (related to corrupt .plist file error?)

Hi folks,
The other day, Drive Genius 4 reported on a file corruption: ~/Library/Preferences/System Mac.plist file. I tried to find the file but it didn't appear to exist.
Today, a strange phenomenon occurred which I think may be related. Strangest thing. I was using Safari, had several tabs open when, suddenly, I lost all input to any links in Safari and system wide as well, other than the cursor being able to move around the display. This dysfunction also included the Command-Tab App Switcher, though they keyboard text function still worked. I could enter text in fields.
I tried Force Quit Apps but I had to shutdown and reboot using the Power button. The reboot seemed to remedy the situation and most controls and keyboard functions returned except for the Command-Tab App Switcher.
In Safari, I used History/Restore Last Open Page, and when the searched for pages came up, they were blank - I was informed that there was no internet connection. Wi-Fi showed still on but grayed out, which could be logical. Also, this is when I noticed that the key repeat function wasn’t working. In System Prefs, I did manage to change the key repeat rate, which accelerates the backspace erase function but there is no key repeat, itself.
All of this, of course, might be pointing to that system file error. Whether it is that hidden Mac.plist file corruption I don’t know.
In any event, first thing I did was to run Permissions Repair. At one point, about 2/3rds of the way in, the progress bar hung for a few minutes and then finished the last third in a split second. In the Repair Permissions log there was no /Mac.plist file among those repaired.
Additionally in Sys Prefs, I tested for Tab key response by refocusing the radio buttons in the Full Keyboard Access option under Keyboard/Shortcuts panel from "Text boxes and lists only" to "All controls.” The refocus worked because now pressing Tab does move the cursor through every control. But still no Command-Tab App Switcher. In Spotlight, I did find the App Switcher.app but it would not open, because it is “Damaged or Missing.” App Switcher preferences are also not accessible.
In Terminal I changed directories and do see the /Mac.plist file under discussion. I suppose I could -rm the file but I’m reluctant without knowing more about what other anomalies might result. The App Switcher is one of the Mac’s best utilities (thanks to er, Microsoft.) If the /Mac.plist file will refresh from the current status, no problem, I would think.
Has anyone experienced anything like this? Any suggestions? Thanks a whole lot in advance for your time and consideration in this!

First, get rid of the worthless, time-wasting "Drive Genius" according to its developer's instructions. Never install any so-called "utility" again.
Don't waste time repairing permissions again, either, unless you have an indication of a permission error involving system files, which you don't and probably never will.
Never delete any file in the shell (Terminal) for any reason.
There is no built-in application called "App Switcher." There is no built-in file named "System Mac.plist" either.
If command-tab application switching still doesn't work after you get rid of "Drive Genius," see below.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

Mode Switcher doesn't support my sound devi

I was unable to switch the modes before, I found the application in the program files, but it tells me that my device is not supported. Any thoughts as to what might cause this?

I just searched for this and saw that X-Fi XtremeAudio doesn't have different modes? That's kind of odd seeing as I have the application for it and the help box tells me I can.
