Silent Uninstall of System Update
Using the new System Center Configuration Manager 2012, you can now specify programs that supersede other programs. I am trying to specify that System Update 4.03.0012 supersedes 4.03.0007. To do this, however, I need to add the silent uninstallation command string for the older version so that SCCM can uninstall it before installing the new one.
Installation of each version works flawlessly using the command line:
systemupdate<version>.exe -s -a /s /v"/qn CREATESHORTCUT=1"
I have tried the command given in the latest "System Update Solution Deployment Guide" from Lenovo, which uses MsiExec.exe to remove the product using it's product code:
MsiExec.exe /X {8675339C-128C-44DD-83BF-0A5D6ABD8297} /qn
Unfortunatly, not only does this do nothing, I've even searched for that string in the registry (with 4.03.0012 installed) and the search returns nothing.
I've tried several command line switches that have been used by other programs to uninstall software. I've apparently not hit on the right combination, or it's just not possible.
Ideally, I'd like command lines that will uninstall each version using the program installer (not MsiExec), similar to my installation command lines.
Does anyone know the uninstall command line syntax for the System Update executable installer?

is filed under the compressed version of the GUID:
8675339C-128C-44DD-83BF-0A5D6ABD8297 -> C9335768C821DD4438FBA0D5A6DB2879

System Update keeps failing "Package did not download" and does not show all updates
I recently installed win8 64-bit on my X1 (1294-2PG) using a clean install formatting the hard drive. Now I want to use System Update to install right drivers. Two problems occur:
System Updates fails to show all the updates available for my PC in the website. Only 2-3 updates are shown.
System Updates repeatedly fails to download the chosen updates. It seems to download most of the file when the download suddenly halts and I get the message: "1 Package did not download" or 2 or 3 depending on the number of updates.
I have tried for several days multiple times a day and even uninstalling/reinstalling System Update. The errors keeps occurring.sorry... i can't help with why TVSU isn't successful with this driver on your machine.

I've got a Thinkpad X230 running Win7 x64. I just ran system update as usual to make sure all the drivers, bios, and
other lenovo apps are up to date. It found few critical drivers such as finger print reader, power driver, etc. I select the criticals as well as the recommended selections such as Bios Update, System Update apps, Wifi drivers, etc. After everything was selected, it downloaded and installed. Then after few reboot, I ran system update and now it tells me there are no application applicable to my system!!!
After doing some reading on this issue, I have uninstalled the system update and re-installed again and same issue.
What happened here? Has anyone experience this? It's like it's no longer detecting my laptop anymore.

It still asks even when using -noreboot. It is possible to go one step further by changing the reboot type of the BIOS upgrade package to "Requires reboot" using Update Retriever, but it still pops up a window asking whether to update the bios or the model number..
Perhaps it is too 'dangerous' to autopush bios updates but I have some 50-100 R500's that need the bios update because the wired and wireless network cards fight each other when they are both connected. A trillion 'ip address conflict on network' is no end of fun for me and the users I am supporting..
Solutions anyone, or should I do some silly autoit script to 'click the right buttons' for me?

My system update (version 3.14) doesn't seem to be working correctly. I can download the updates but it won't allow me to install them (message saying failed to update) & the manual install link when clicked does nothing at all. Can anyone tell me where the deferred install files get saved on the laptop so I can try finding the relevant .exe to run that way? Many thanks.

I have uninstalled & reinstalled System Update 3.14 & I'm still experiencing the same problems. I've done a Google search & found at least a couple of other users experiencing the same:

Windows 7 x64. I launched System Update V4 from Solution Center. It automatically updated to Version 5.2. System Update 5.2 seems to start (the Tvsukernal.exe is showing active in Task Manager) and the icon is on the task bar, but no System Update window ever appears. I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times. I would like to update my system, but how?
But how exactlly does one accomplish deleting SUService between uninstall of System Update 4 and install of System Update 5? When I launch System Update V4 it immediately downloads and starts installing V5. So, while the installer was running I deleted the SUService. Still same problem. I uninstalled System Update completely, all files removed including SUService. Reinstalled with System Update 5.02. Still same problem. System Update seems to launch, appears on the task bar, but its window will not open.

TV System update silent install
Hi, I have system update silent install working fine but it doesn't add an icon in teh start menu or prgrams - anyone know the switch to make this happen ?

1. I can type "System Update" into the start menu and it shows up
--> please check this on your system
2. There is a shortcut "System Update.lnk" installed in the "c:\programdata\microsoft\windows\start menu\programs\lenovo thinkvantage tools" folder
--> I am wondering if one or more of the folders in this path is somehow hidden on your system, please check it -

I am having problem with TVSU 4.0 on a Windows 7 64 bit system where it gets to about 17-18% and consistently gives me "An error occurred while downloading packages"
I've made sure no firewalls are active. Am not using an Proxy servers and have turned off "automatically detect settings" in Internet Options. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall and no change. I've also tried to run as an Administrator and no luck either.
I reviewed the logs that are located at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\System Update\logs
I've highlighted in BOLD the entries below I feel may be the issue, but not sure how to resolve it. I did notice download.lenovo.com link when I try to reach it directly shows file not found???

Uninstalling Corrupt Software Update Patch
Hi,
I was checking for the method to uninstall any software update patch in case need be. I came across one of the switch to use with the task sequence as below to uninstall any specific patch from systems :
C:\Windows\System32\wusa.exe /uninstall /kb:2781197 /quiet /norestart
where KB number is any patch which we would like to remove. The task sequence gave up the below error in TSAGENT.log but execmgr.log is clean without any errors :

I tried creating a package just to check if that works, however several users have reported that task sequence is the only method that works but as that was not working in my case, so tried the package with a batch file using the same script as mentioned
above but that came up with the below error :
EnterRsRuningState failed to run script PatchRemoval.bat 0x87d01106
If i try to run the same script using the CMD prompt manually on client machine, it successfully removes the patch silently.

On another system where this patch was already installed, there were not eventviewer logs generated for today. There were old logs and one of them was as below :

Citrix Receiver For Widnows 4.1.200 (14.1.200.13) Silent Uninstall UAC Prompt
We deploy the receiver using SCCM 2012 R2 CU3 and I'm trying to get the uninstall to work silently (citrixreceiver.exe /silent /uninstall /noreboot). The problem I'm seeing is that when it goes to uninstall the updater it throws a UAC prompt trying
to run "C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\Receiver\PrivService.exe /noservice /elevated".
What I can't understand is that the install/uninstall run under the SYSTEM account on SCCM so it should be running as elevated already.
I've also tried running ReceiverCleanupUtility.exe /silent and get the same result.
Anyone else ever seen anything like this? Turning UAC off is not an option.I found a way around this problem. I was able to turn off UAC from the command line and then turn it back on once I was done. So my batch file looked similar to this:

System Update 5.01.0005 hangs every attempt on my X121e (log files inline)
Hi, I installed TVSU on my x121e laptop and it hangs on 95% on every attempt, like 5th time now. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall and I am using the latest version, I think, which is 5.01.0005.
Note that the system totally freezes on me. Nothing responds and Ctrl+Alt+Delete does not do anything. Only way is to shut down using the power button.

System Update 5.01 update only removes itself on Win7
I recently launched System Update (installed on Windows 7 x64 on my x230) version 5.01 and was notified that an update was available. After accepting the "install update?" query, the usual download and installation ensued... and guess what, after that (download+installation) something (UCS?) crashed and when looking for tvsu anywhere on my disk (Program Files, Program Files x86, ProgramData) all I could find was... well... nothing.
Are you trying to tell me something, Lenovo? That the best way to use System Update is to not use it?
Or is there a less subtle explanation as well?
If you care for why this happened, I'll delay installing the 5.02 TVSU until tomorrow... if you need any logfiles until then, tell me.
Beyond that, I suppose other end users will me more surprised and less happy / able to solve this.Benjs,
Sounds like 5.01 tried to do an Update in place, to update to 5.02. Look in control panel>admin tools>event viewer for entries around the time of your Update.

Action center (white flag on task bar), Maintenance, View reliability history. Look on the bottom line for BLUE I icon (information), for the date of your attempted install(upgrade in place) of SU. On the bottom of the screen, documentation should show up, such as "Lenovo system update ,,,, Successful application removal" Go to the Far right of the line, and click on VIEW TECHNICAL DETAILS. You MIGHT see another detail line that states unsuccessfull application installation. VIEW TECHNICAL DETAILS

The msi installer log will be found in C: Users\**YOUR id**\appdata\local\temp\TVSUsetup.log or similar. If msi failure, go to the bottom on the MSI log and look for error/failure/return codes and post them.
SU is found in Program files(x86)\lenovo\System Update. It does store data in \program data.
I installed SU 5.02(upgrade in place), without any issues. I also uninstalled it and reinstalled it yesterday, without any issues. The Upgrade in place does NOT give an option to create a shortcut to execute SU. Standalone install will create a short cut under LENOVO (folder) System Update(subfolder entry) . -

This is a new machine. I have already execueted Microsoft Update.
No antivirus software is not yet installed.
No versions, preinstalled version and downloaded version 5.06 run successsfully.
Version 5.06 fails every run.
I checked the reliabilty reports, but I didn't discover anything about System Update.
I don't want to use any file sharing software in order to send the logs. What shall I do ?

System Update 5.06 won't install: MCSDKSetupRed.exe Process exit code: 1157
Win 7 x64 on Thinkpad W510. Original OS install from 2 years ago with multiple updates. Most recently, System Update 5.05. Manually downloaded and tried to install 5.06. Failed to uninstall old version, so I did a manual uninstall (deleted directories and searched all entries in registry and deleted). Now 5.06 no longer stalls at uninstall of ver 5.05, but fails to complete the install of 5.06 with the log entry

One of the library files needed to run this application cannot be found.
On the TVSU 5.06 page (here) under software requrements I see:
Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 with Service pack 1 or Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 is required for System Update to work Correctly. Use Microsoft Windows Update to ensure that Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 or 2.0 is installed on your system.
