Silhouette

I was curious if anybody has ideas on how I can pull this off.  We need to shoot a scene of our main actor in a church confessional but since we do not have access inside a church, we were thinking that  we could shoot it inside any dark enclsoed space, like a closet and turn the actor into a silhouette so it's not obvious we are not in an actual confessional.. any ways to pull that off  a silhouette effect with editing in premiere elements 10?
Thanks for you any feedabck!

You can silhouette your actor by lighting behind him and leaving his face unlit.
And any closet could double for a confessional. I used one myself in a short video I made. I just used a shot of the outside of the confessional for the establishing shot -- then cut to the actor inside this confessional. (In my case, though, I had an actor playing the priest rather than the confessor, but the concept is the same.)

  • Can I change the background color of a video thumbnail to view a silhouettes transparancy in Bridge

I see this question asked a ton on here, and never EVER am I finding an answer.  I know in the past (Adobe CS 5) in Bridge you could view the transparency of a black silhouette image against a medium grey so you could see the content of the clip.  Adobe changed that with CS 5.5 & on, and never seems to want to answer question when we members ask.  PLEASE ADOBE ANSWER!!
How can I view a black silhouette image in Bridge when Adobe had decided to make the transparency black instead of grey? (Ideally the transparency of a video file should show as a grid as it does in ALL OTHER Adobe products.
PLEASE HELP.  We use bridge heavily in production to organize our assets, and this change not being addressed kills our asset searching time because we have to open each clip to view it, rather than being able to preview it, which is what the Bridge is for.
    Thanks.
P.S.  Do not tell me how to change the programs background color as this is not the question.  The question is how do I change the color of the transparency display for video clips.

    Hi Peter
The associated FCM file provides us a clue as to Captivate's
pedigree. What we know today as Captivate is a product that was
born into the world and dubbed "FlashCam". This file contains
information about margins. So FCM means, FlashCam Margins.
If all you are doing is adjusting the colors a bit, you may
copy the associated files to new names. Then modify the colors as
desired and all should be well.
    Cheers... Rick

How do I change a default from feathered edge to sharp edge when I select a path?
I'm working in Photoshop CS6 on a Mac and am having trouble when I select a Path it automatically feathers the selection border. I can't seem to find any place to adjust a feather setting. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm using paths to silhouette an image on a photograph to use in another document and I need a hard edge on it, not a feathered one.

In the Paths panel, click the flyout menu (in the top right of the panel) and choose Make Selection (this option will only be available if you have a path selected). Reduce the Feather Radius to 0 (zero) and click OK. This setting will be the default even when clicking the Load Path as Selection button.

  • Silhouettes in "Shared" folder

I can't figure out how to use the Silhouettes found in the "Shared" folder. I'd like to use this shape as an object in a project, but can't get rid of the "number in a movie frame" icon. Is this simply meant to be a "place holder" like the other "Replace" files in this folder and simply meant to be replaced by some other media in the project?

They look like placeholders to me. I don't think they're intended to be used in a project.
You'll have to edit the original file in order to use the actual silhouette without the background. Maybe draw a mask around the silhouette to extract it from the grey background.

  • "Error loading Plugins" after installing Silhouette Connect?

    Hello,
I just paid for & installed the plugin for the Silhouette Cameo die cut printer called "Silhouette Connect". Now my illustrator won't open at all, won't force quit, and image is stuck on my home screen. Only way to close it is to do a forced shut down. The error showing says "photoshopimport.aip" Photoshop & InDesign open no problem.

Most probably the plugin is not compatible to your Illustrator version. You need to check that with the developer.

  • Silhouette feature question

have an image of a pair of boots... cut out in photoshop on transparent background.  inserted into Illustrator and has a small white line around the image... like it is an uneven cut.  (magic wand in photoshop...tried to short cut)
so made a silhouette copy of the image... but it is black. need it white.  is there any way to change the silhouette to white vs black?
    appreciate the help

You can colorize pixel images in a limited fashion using the relevant filters or by applying tints. Regarding the white line issue, you may want to search for discussions on how to deal with these trapping/ overprint/ transparency flattening issues across programs.

  • My photos won't restore. The silhouettes are there but no actual photos.

I Reset my iPad but iCloud didn't restore my photos. The number count is there indicating the amount I had and the silhouettes for where the photos were still exist but, though it's been nearly a month the actual photos still have begun to appear.

I am going to add this in hopes that it saves someone the aggrivation I had to just go through. Let me start by saying that I am NOT an i-genius in any way, but I did solve a problem i couldn't find the answer to on here, and Apple wanted me to pay $50 to help me with. My experience for your assistance:
I had attempted to find the root files of my iphoto library. In doing so I went to
    finder/username/photos/iphoto.
In doing so, it opened a version of iphoto that I had not been working with in the past. It also changes the dock shortcut to this iphoto address!
After about an hour, I stumbled upon another iphoto address, which is for a completely different library (ironically the one I had been using for the past 3 years). upon opening this library, it revealed all of my information as I had left it last, and also corrected the dock icon to open this version.
    finder/username/public/iphoto
Going to this address and clicking that icon solved my roblem, and I hope it solves your too!

How do I make a silhouette from a portrait?
Ah, but wouldn’t it be ever so much easier to explain if you actually provided (a lores of) the image in question?
And how do I make the background transparent?
Preferably with a Layer Mask and then saving in the appropriate file format (psd or png24 for example support transparency).

I've just downloaded itunes 12 onto my pc. When I connect my IPod classic 160gb, it's name shows up briefly before the ipod silhouette at the top left simply greys out and nothing happens.
    Please advise.

I finally resolved my problem after spending way too much time on it. I simply handed my 160GB iPod to my husband to put his fav Stones & Beatles songs on and I went back to my 80GB Microsoft Zune which has never disappointed me.
After spending so much time trying to figure this out I did finally take it back to Apple Store who performed a diagnostic and found there was a problem with the device. They replaced it with a refurbished one which has similar issues. All I wanted to do was listen to my music. Was that too much to ask? So I am happy to be free of this problematic device. No more Apple for me!!

How To Create a Silhouette Lighting Effect in Adobe After Effects - YouTube

One other thing I noticed just now.  A current script file (one from 2009 anyway) that I downloaded from this page http://www.videocopilot.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10946  has a .jsx extension.  And I don't have a scripts folder in my AE folder at C:\program files\adobe\Adobe After Effects CS3\Support Files\Scripts) as described on that page.
So I'm assuming that the current .jsx scripts will not work in my old v4.1.
But I do have an 'MM Script' folder with files that have .mm extensions with names like blink.mm, cmpaud.mm, copyvalu.mm, cornpin.mm, dbspring.mm, frmeffect.mm, gravity.mm, etc.
So I do apparently have the ability to use some scripts in v4.1, maybe just not the same kind of script files like the .jsx scripts.  But I do not have a 'Scripts' selection under file as described on the page at the link above.  And I checked through all my menu bar drop down selections and I don't see one for 'Scripts' at all, yet I do have the MM Scripts folder in my AE folder.
Then I also have a 'Plug-ins' folder where all of my effects are contained.
Does anyone know how I can access the scripts that I do have in v4.1 ?...  I can't find a 'Scripts' selection anywhere.
Is there a place where I can get other older .mm scripts?
Am I correct in figuring that .jsx scripts will not work in AE v4.1 ?
    Thanks again,
    digi

  • Silhouette plug-in

I have used a rastor to vector plug in called Silhouette for years. It basically takes a rastor image and converts it to a vector. Like the live trace in Illustrator except this plugin works. It's incredibly fast, not like live trace, which crashes the computer as much as anything. Unfortunately, the company that made Silhouette has gone out of business. Our laser plate cutters worked with Silhouette reducing the node count, and thus reducing the overall tempature. My question is, has anyone else ever used this plug-in and if so, are there any plugins that could do the same thing. As I understand, CorelDraw can do this, but we have several seats of Adobe Illustrator here and that is not an option unfortunately. With Adobe doing mostly cosmetic changes now days and no real improvements, waiting for this feature to be added is out. We have quite an investment in Adobe products here and sadly the new look of cs5 is great I guess, but it won't pay the bills.

I did some research and found a company called cvalley inc. I thought the owner of silhouette was free soft. Wondering if this company bought the software or is the original creator. http://www.cvalley.com/store/silhouette.html
In the past I ordered all my plugins from http://www.silhouetteonline.com
I'm going to contact them and find out at [email protected]
They make some other cool plugins here... http://www.cvalley.com

  • What is the little yellow round square silhouette icon inside text boxes?

    Hi,
I am wondering what the small icon is, that appears inside text boxes in the upper right corner.
It is mustardy-yellow with a thick rounded-corner outside frame, a thin inside frame, and the silhouette of a person.
Does it have a purpose? I can't select it, and it does not reveal anything on roll-over.
    Just curious, thanks!

Using a non-Web Safe Font will not automatically turn that text box into an image file. However, its appearance on any computer that does not have that font installed will be difference as that computer substitutes a different font for it.

  • How to turn a silhouette into an outline?

I need to create a line drawing of the outline of a chair. I tried following the various Illustrator tutorials to take the image of a chair and create a silhouette. However, I can't figure out how to take this silhouette and get just the outline of it. The Illustrator Image Trace tool doesn't seem to have an option to just save the outline.
Is there an easy way in Illustrator or Photoshop to turn this silhouette into an outline image that I can save as a file? I will print the outline in a very light opacity so that the lines are barely visible for hand rendering. I don't want to use the pen tool to outline the silhouette because my hand is too shaky to do a good job.
    THank you for any advice...

Thank you Monika and Steve for suggesting to ungroup and then use the direct selection to edit it, and to change the fill to zero and the stroke to a very thin line.
It turned out that the outline was very wavy/crooked, since image trace outlined the pixels somewhat haphazardly. So the final solution was complicated because I had to learn how to use direct select and edit anchor points to straighten out the lines.
I guess it would have been easier to use a light box and just trace the image by hand. oh well. I learned alot about Illustrator.
Thank you again for your helpfulness!

  • Silhouette feature in FCP like iTunes commercials?

Does anyone know an effect in FCP that can be used to achieve the "silhouette" effect that you see in the iTunes commercials?

    (preliminary thoughts)
If I were to undertake a project like that I would probably try to do it on a GreenScreen and use the MASK. I'm not so sure about the cables. Maybe you'd have to use Motion, Shake, After Effects, Flash or another program of the such and draw in the cables.
    or
Bezier Curves/Mask out what/who you want to be the 'shadow'.
