Silly Question I know but I'm a Newbie!

Besides Apple's own mail can the iPhone run any other email software e.g. thunderbird, etc.?
Mark

I'm worried that when I collect emails on my iPhone she wont be able to collect those (same) emails via her powerbook (as I will already have collected them). My thought was; if I could use say Thunderbird on my iPhone and collect mail she would be able to collect the same mail via Apple's mail on her powerbook.
That's not how collecting mail works, really. The email client doesn't matter *at all*--it depends on whether the account is POP or IMAP and what settings are in use.
I have a POP account that is set up to download messages and then leave them on the server (this requires setting the POP settings in both Mail desktop and Mail iPhone that way). So all my messages get downloaded both in Mail and on my phone as new, unread, messages.
A POP account set to delete from server after downloading would cause the problem you cite. An IMAP account would download the messages everywhere, but would mark the ones you had already read as Read when your wife downloaded them, and if your wife deleted a message that wasn't for her, it would also get deleted for you.
Google POP vs IMAP for more, and see what your email provider offers, and check the settings.
Not such a silly question---it's a bit complicated.

  • Help, i have a silly question i know ur gonna laugh

    hi
i know this is a silly question but i have a ipod and i was wondering if there was software that could be downloaded so that u can watch videos if u dont have an ipod which has that facility
    thanks

If you don't have an iPod video, you won't be able to watch videos.
iPodLinux does exist; however, it is only supported on 1st, 2nd & 3rd generation iPods (the non-clickwheel models) and does not enable videos
If you want to check it out, vist www.ipodlinux.org.

  • HT204053 Naive question I know but here goes. One apple ID, multiple apple IOS devices (touch/pad/phone). Books purchased via Kindle sync to ALL devices via iCloud. How can I stop this? I want to separate each of the family's reading prefernces from the d

    Naive question but here goes.
As a family we have one Apple ID. All devices are synced via my PC and backed up to it rather than to iCloud.
Books purchased via Kindle App appear on all the devices within the "cloud" option. How do I separate each reader's prefernce to their own device? I want to make sure that the younger one's dont have access to anything unsuitable.
    Thanks.

You can have one AppleID for your purchases so that all teh devices can use all the apps without having to buy them again, and at the same time, have different iCloud accounts for each user so that their content is not intermingled with everyone else's.  You can even go so far as to have your iCloud Account enabled for "Find my iPhone" for each of the other devices allowing you to keep track of where tehy are when they get misplaced.
If you need/want, you can share iCloud Calendars between different iCloud accounts as well.  This is exactly what my wife & I have done.  We share calendars so I know when she has classes or dog competitions, and she can see my work schedule so she knows what nights I have to be in late, etc.

  • Stupid question, I know, but after years of using Firefox, on this one I can't find the Page Reload icon?? Please help.

In the past, when I want to refresh a page, I've simply gone to the page reload icon on the toolbar. On the new version, I can't fin the reload icon. Sorry I know this is a very stupid question,, but I just can't find that reload icon. The toolbar is a lot different from previous versions, but I'm sure tht pesky icon must be there somewhere!!

    Hi merren,
Not a stupid question at all :) You should take a look at [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/common-questions-after-upgrading-firefox-36 this article with common questions after upgrading].
You could also benefit from the looking at the article on [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-customize-toolbars customizing the tool bar]. That will show you not only how to verify that you have the refresh button, but give you options on where it lives as well.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Simple Silly Question I know I'm overlooking

    Ok,
and pardon in advance for the "d'oh!" moment.
But, when creating my site in iWeb, and pubishing to a folder,
it names the folder the name of the site.
Thus the page URLs within the pages reference:
    http://www.nameofsite.com/nameofsite/podcast/index.html
However, for my Name forwarding to work for my domain name
    it needs to be:
    http://www.nameofsite.com/podcast/index.html
So, I know I can take the pages into BBEdit and do a grep
search and replace and fix this, but what am I missing
in iWeb, so that when I publish to the folder, that
second "nameofsite" isn't in my URL tags?
or is it attaching that not in publish to folder,
    but some other setting?
Thanks in advance...I know this is a simple fix...

    its linking to the
    rss
feeds and itunes feeds that is the main problem.
That's because those links are created based on the
standard iWeb site structure. Is there some reason
why you don't want to use that, and thereby avoid the
    need for constant post processing?
My main reason is to get my feed validated.
Using the default iWeb way is returning either "404"
file not found errors in Feedvalidator, or it's not digging
deep enough and having a resolve issue of the domain masking.
If I post edit, and shorten the RSS feed link to
    http://www.nameofsite.com/Podcast/rss.xml,
and upload it by moving the contents up, and not
the whole folder,as is the default,
    feedvalidator.org finds the rss.xml
    fine, and reports validity.
so I know the SIMPLER method of uploading the files is just :
drop the folder as is into my cox space
change my fowaring/mask to the "nameofsite" folder
    BUT
my it affects my rss link and itunes (itpc) link this way,
in that they come back "404" and 'not valid link'.
Because it doesn't forward/mask properly when it comes to
    rss.xml.

  • HT201210 Daft question I know but can the IOS 7 update be erased and an older version be restored?

Daft question maybe but can the IOS 7 software be erased and an older version put on an iphone 5??????

Apple offers no supported way to do it.  As such any other non supported ways that may exist cannot be discussed in these forums.
No that if you try any of the non supported ways you may void your warranty and forfeit any support from Apple including these forums.
Yoiu can use Google to find ways of doing this at your own risk.

  • Stupid question I know, but how do I answer an incoming call on a Kestrel?

    Hi
You should get a little green phone that you just slide across the screen to answer the call.
Let me know how you get on.
    Thanks.

  • Age old question I know but

I brought this laptop (L477-S5975) win7 for my daughter last xmas, she put a admins password in it to keep her daughter off it. She was using IE.
    Guess what??...she forgot it.
    Now what?
For some reason there was no recovery disk included,I suspect Best Buy takes it out to continue their business with me.
    Richard

I have yet to see a Toshiba prompt you to make the recovery disks nor have I seen any come with the blank disks.
You have to create a set of recovery disks from the hidden recovery partition by using the Recovery Disk Creator.  Go to "Start - All Programs - Toshiba - Recovery - Recovery Disk Creator".  Information on using the Hard Drive Based Recovery Process and creating the disks normally begins on or about page 58 to 60 of your User's Guide.  The User's Guide is found on your hard drive in Adobe Acrobat Format and can be downloaded from the Product Support Link at the top of this page.
If you didn't make them and can not do so now you'll need to purchase a replacement set as per this post.
http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/t5/System-Recovery-and-Recovery/Recovery-media/td-p/9148  The disks are free but Toshiba highly overcharges you $25.00 for shipping.
On many of the newer systems they call if Recovery Media Creator rather than Recovery Disk Creator.  They both amount to the same thing but RMC allows you to create Recovery USB Thumb Drives as well as DVD disks.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Basic Questions, I know, but ....

Can you sync more than one iPod to your iTunes on one computer? Can you have two different 'accounts' (for lack of a better word) for each iPod? And can you use another brand of mp3 player with iTunes? I have an iPod and use it with iTunes ... and someone gave my daughter a little 'mini' mp3 player for her to use. I would like to keep it on iTunes if possible, and she doesn't have her own computer ... any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

*Can you sync more than one iPod to your iTunes on one computer?*
Yes, you can sync as many as you like. There are several different ways to use two or more iPods with one computer, have a look at this help page for suggestions and choose the method that suits you best: How to use multiple iPods with one computer
*Can you have two different 'accounts' (for lack of a better word) for each iPod?*
No idea what this means. If you mean can you create separate Mac user accounts on your computer and sync an iPod from the library contained in each then the answer is yes. See the link above.
If you mean can you sync an iPod from multiple computers or libraries then the answer is not quite, to use an iPod with multiple computers/libraries you need to manage it manually: Using iPod with Multiple computers
*And can you use another brand of mp3 player with iTunes?*
There used to be a few non Apple branded players that would connect with iTunes for Mac, some of the Creative ones for example. Not sure if there are a still any that do this. iTunes for Windows is only compatible with the iPod.iPhone range and any of the Motorola phones that were designed to be compatible. You are probably out of luck with regular generic MP3 players.

  • Silly questions from a novice?

I have just downloaded i-tunes onto a computer and I am having several problems.
    1. After I have imported/ripped a cd into i-tunes, the songs skip through without playing.
    2. I went to the apple website and installed the latest i-tunes 6, and when I tried to import a cd, an error report came up, the one saying send error report etc.
    3. I put a few mixes from a website into i-tunes and it plays them right through, but when I try to put them onto ipod it says that the songs cannot be recognised?
    4. How do I take unwanted songs off of my ipod?
Is this a problem with the computer that I am using? And if so can I go to another computer and install my i-tunes there. Or can you only download i-tunes onto one comp?
So many questions I know, but I really dont have a clue and want to get some music onto my ipod.
    Thanks in advance.

.4 To remove unwanted songs from your ipod connect your ipod to your computer, open itunes, then click on the ipod icon.
Now all the songs on your ipod are listed to the right. Simply select the songs you want to remove, click on edit->remove.
I believe they will be automatically removed from your playlists as well.
    good luck!

  • Can you print from an iPad 2 using 3G in a home with no computer or wifi by using an iPhone 5 hot spot connection if the printer has been set up in another place with live wifi? I know this question is loaded but my dad lives in a rural area

Can you print from an iPad 2 using 3G in a home with no other computer or wifi by using an iPhone 5 hot spot connection if the printer has been set up in another place with live wifi? I know this question is loaded but my dad lives in a rural area and is wanting a printer to use occasionally. He doesn't want to deal with a computer and I keep his iPad updated for him at my home.  Please shed some light on this for us PLEASE. Thanks

In that case, it should be possible. I haven't tried this directly, but I believe it should work.
You'll need to get an actual AirPrint compatible Printer.
Check here for a list of Printers you can choose from.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
Once you have the compatible printer, using the Hotspot feature from the iPhone he'll have to create the Wifi bubble form the iPhone, and connect the Printer to that Wifi network.
Then connect the iPad to that same Wifi network provided by the iPhone. When all that is done, the printer should appear in any of the Apps that can Print under the Action Arrow button.
For instance in email, pressing the action arrow should show a Print option. In there the printer should appear.
Alternatively you can simply buy a wireless router and setup the network through there even if there is no internet attached.  Connect the wireless printer to the router network, and connect the iPad or iPhone to that same wifi network to print.

You will need to do it using a third-party utility such as Phone to PC. Also, see:
