Silver efex pro 2 won't open now in 10.6.8?

After upgrading to 10.6.8, I can't get Nik Software silver efex pro 2 to open as an Aperture (or Lightroom) plugin.   Silver Efex Pro works but not Silver Efex Pro 2.
I've tried re installing Silver Efex Pro 2.
Everything else seems to be working fine.   Just these strange glitch.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

  • Image in Lightroom 4 won't open in Silver Efex Pro 2.

    I just downloaded an upgrade version of Lightroom 4. Silver Efex Pro 2 is listed in the "Edit in" menu but does not open when I click on the link. I can open Silver Efex separatelly, but no image is included. Any suggestions?

    This is a documented issue. It has been fixed in the LR 4.1 RC available for Adobe Labs. If you are unwilling to use the Release Candidate, LR 4.1 official should be along soon.
    In addition, Silver Efex has released an update in the last thirty days or so you should probably download.

  • Silver Efex Pro 2 demo merely crashes on LR 3.4.1

    I wanted to try this interesting package, and d/l'ed from Nik Software. Installation is straight forward, and when opening LR I have the option to use Silver Efex as a filter, but all I keep getting is an "...error occurred and needs to close." I'm wondering if there's a connection to a similar error I had originally with LR crashing certain effects due to the older AMD processor I'm running (the patches provided took care of that); wondering if there's supposed to be a patch on Sliver Efex to fix it????

    So here's what Nik said in response. I will see if there's an update video driver and go from there. If it doesn't fix, I won't have a chance to try their other suggestions for a day or two...
    Thank you for contacting Nik Software.
    Silver Efex Pro 2 additionally takes  advantage of the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) of the computer system.  The GPU  is also sometimes referred to as the Display Adapter or Video Card, in any case  they are all the same.  Sometimes certain video cards will not handle this  additional processing.  You will note this when opening an image into Silver  Efex Pro 2 and one or more of the following happens: 1. Silver Efex Pro will  crash right away, or  2. If it opens the imported image will sometimes not be  displayed correctly (solid gray, black or white image), or 3. the buttons will  not display correctly, or 4. the responsiveness is simply very slow.
    In order to resolve this, the first  measure would be to update the Display Adapters or GPU driver.
    Mac Users:  Generally the video card  that comes with your Mac will be updated automatically.  The exception may be  when there has been an additional video card added.  In that case the user may  need to go to the video card manufacturer's website to download an updated  driver for their secondary GPU.  If you are using Mac OS Snow Leopard (10.6)  ensure to update to 10.6.6 or higher as this can affect performance. If this  does not apply to you, please go to the next section  below.
    Windows Users:  Locate the manufacturer of  the GPU as well as the model number.  Once this is determined, it is then  recommended to go directly to the GPU manufacturer's website (best option) or if  that is not possible to go to the computer manufacturer's website (secondary  option) to obtain an updated video card driver.  It is NOT recommended to use  Windows Update as in general we have found that these drivers are not updated as  frequently.  To identify which video card you have please do the  following:
    Click on Start >Control Panel >System & Security  >System >Device Manager and then click on the plus next to Display  Adapter, this should display the make and model information.
    Windows XP  users: Click on Start >Control Panel >Performance & Maintenance  >System then click on the "Hardware" tab followed by the "Device Manager"  button.  Locate "Display Adapter" in the list and click on the plus next to it,  this should display the make and model number of the GPU.
    Go to the manufacturer's website (you may need to search for it  via Google) such as Nvidea.com and with the model number you should be able to  search for the latest driver. If you are unable to locate the driver you may  need to contact the manufacturer of your computer to obtain an updated  driver.
    Once the latest GPU driver is located, download and install the  new driver.
    Restart the computer and try Silver Efex Pro 2 once  again.
    If after following the above steps, you  are still experiencing the same issue, the next step will be to either disable  the GPU (if possible) or force Silver Efex Pro 2 to not use the GPU  (safe-mode).  In order to disable the GPU in Silver Efex PRO 2 please do the  following:
    If you are able to open Silver Efex Pro 2 and can see part of  the interface, see if you can click on the "Settings" button in the lower left.
    In Settings locate the section "GPU" and expand it, in this  section you will see a check box "Enable GPU Processing", uncheck this so the  GPU will be disabled, then close the settings window.
    Close out of Silver Efex Pro 2 (click Cancel), quit out of any  and all host applications (Photoshop, Lightroom, Aperture), and then relaunch  Silver Efex Pro 2 to see if this corrects this issue.
    If you are unable to disable  the GPU via settings (e.g. Silver Efex Pro 2 crashes or the buttons are not  displaying correctly), please try the following steps below after quitting out  of all host applications (Photoshop, Lightroom, Aperture):
    Mac Users:
    Open a finder window (or double click on the Macintosh HD on  the desktop) and navigate to:
    Macintosh HD :  Users : <user name> :  Library : Preferences : Nik Software : Silver Efex Pro 2
    Locate the file, SilverEfexPro2.cfg and right-click and choose  "open with..." and then click "Choose" and then locate the applications,  "TextEdit" to open this file.
    At the very beginning (before all the text) of the  configuration file, paste the following code below verbatim:
    <configuration>
    <group  name="INTERN">
    <key name="UseSafeMode" type="bool"  value="1"/>
    </group>
    </configuration>
    Now save the file, close it and relaunch Silver Efex Pro 2 and  see if the issue has been resolved.
    Windows Users:
    Click Start and type in the search box below: %localappdata%  (exactly as shown with % symbols on each end), when the yellow folder "Local" is  displayed in the search list, click on it.
    Windows XP: Click Start >Run  and type, "%USERPROFILE%/Local Settings" without the quotes and press  enter.
    The local folder will open, now double-click on "Nik Software"  followed by "Silver Efex Pro 2" and locate the file SilverEfexPro2.cfg and then  double click to open.  Windows will ask you which application to use to open  this file, locate and choose "Notepad" to open.
    At the very beginning (before all the text) of the  configuration file, paste the following code below verbatim:
    <configuration>
    <group  name="INTERN">
    <key name="UseSafeMode" type="bool"  value="1"/>
    </group>
    </configuration>
    Now save the file, close it and relaunch Silver Efex Pro 2 and  see if the issue has been resolved.

  • NIK Silver Efex Pro 2 hangs CS5 W/100% CPU Win 7 64bit

    I'm running Win 7 64bit and CS5 64bit and it works fine until I load Silver Efex Pro 2 then CS5 hangs and CPU is @ 100%. I have to force close CS5.
    I also have SEP 1 and that works without a problem.
    I also run XP Pro SP2 on a completely different hard drive that get switched in and out with my Win 7 hard drive, NOTE these two OS's are not in the system at the same time (sorry but some on these forum get confused about that), and run CS5 32bit on that install and SEP runs fine on that OS and CS5 32bit.
    What could cause this. I will be contacting NIK tomorrow about this problem.
    Anyone else haviing this problem?
    Thanks.

    Not helpful?
    In this thread alone you asked whether anyone had seen a problem.  I bumped the thread back to the top so it would be seen more.  Yes, I really did think about that when I made my first response in this thread, which otherwise had 0 responses and had fallen off the first page.  It was a "matter of fact" response, intended for you and future readers, no condescension intended.
    You asked about licensing services and I named them.
    But these things are not helpful in your opinion.  No "thanks for the information" or even "thanks for your response".  Just a "Gee Thanks" with an attitude.
    Unlike you, when you address me, I respond.  I asked you a question, but you ignored it.
    And now guess what?  I don't particularly feel like doing you a favor and trying to remember that you would prefer me not to respond to your comments.  Tell you what:  You continue to post when and where you want, and I'll do the same.

  • Silver Efex Pro 2 Plug-In - where is it in PSE 11's Editor?

    Having inserted the plug-in location in both the Organiser and the Editor I can find an option to open a file in Silver Efex Pro 2 from the Organiser.  However when I've edited a file in the Editor and then perhaps want to convert it to B&W using SEP2, I can't see how to directly access it - and it seems very inefficient to have to save the file, go back to the editor  to open it from there, especially as plug-in location is also shown in the Editor preferences.
    Is there something I've done or not done?
    Can anyone help please?

    Hi
    I am using Windows 7.  Have looked in File>Automation Tools, but the only option there is 'Fit Image'.
    If it helps, I have  moved from PSE9 to PSE11 (the full programme not the upgrade, and have unistalled PSE9)

  • Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 not recognized in PS CS6

    hi
    I'm having problems with Silver Efex Pro 2 after upgrading to PS CS6, worked fine in older versions of PS..
    Downloaded the latest installer from Nik Software..
    The installer only find my Lightroom 4.1 when installing, and I have to add CS6 manually (locating the plugin folder, also tried other folders).
    It works fine in LR4.1, but in PS, the software opens, I apply changes, and clik OK, NIK closes, but nothing happens to my image. The history tab says "Silver Efex Pro 2", but no layers/changes to the original image..
    64bits WIN7 Enterprise, 12GB ram
    Please help!

    I've had frustrations with installing Nik Silver Efex Pro 2, as well as other plugins, into both Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CS5 several times, on both of my computers, each running Windows 7 (64-bit). I believe I have figured out why, and it turns out in my case it is my human error.
    The bottom line is that the default installation of both of these PHOTOSHOP versions result in a double Photoshop program installation - one as Photoshop 32-bit version, and one as Photoshop 64-bit version. So Photoshop itself is installed twice, in two different locations on the computer. One installation is under the folder location: "C:/Program Files/Adobe", and the other Photoshop installation is under the folder location: "C:/Program Files (x86)/Adobe". 64 bit versions of plugins should be installed into the former of the two Photoshop folder locations - the one that is found under "C:/Program Files/Adobe". The Silver Efex Pro 2 plugin needs to be installed (or copied from a previous install) into the Photoshop "Plug-ins" folder of the correct Photoshop version.
    So my problem was caused by installing Silver Efex Pro 2 into the wrong Photoshop version "Plug-ins" folder, and therefore I couldn’t find it under the Filters menu in Photoshop.
    I've also experienced the problem described by the original poster above (Aremark1984) - about Silver Efex Pro 2 being apparently available within Photoshop in the Filters menu, appearing to function normally but not creating a new layer within Photoshop once Silver Efex closes and returns the edited image to Photoshop. In my case, as Aremark1984 describes, I had manually installed Silver Efex by copying it's folder from the Photoshop CS5 "Plug-ins" folder to the Photoshop CS6 "Plug-ins" folder. However I had wrongly copied a sub-folder of the Silver Efex program, rather than the parent folder. The folder that needs to be copied for a manual install is titled "Nik Software" (not "Silver Efex Pro 2").

  • Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 not recognized in PS CS 5.1

    During Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 installation, only LR3 x64 listed as host application, Photoshop CS 5.1 x64 was not. Manually adding PS to the host application list resulted in shortcuts being created in the PS directory, but PS will only open the standalone version of SEP when launched from Plug-in->Nik->SEP. I've checked the shortcut path and it is correctly pointed to the SEP x64 plug-in file for PS. Does anyone having trouble to get SEP2 to work in PS CS 5.1? BTW, LR3 plug-in is working perfectly fine.

    Photoshop CS5.1 is the version that ships with CS 5.5.  It's also known as 12.1.  To make matters even more confusing, for Photoshop CS5 users the 12.0.4 update is functionally identical to 12.1 except for the ability to license it via subscription.
    And even funnier, behind the scenes and under the covers, the pre-release versions used different registry keys than the final release, making it even harder for people developing plug-ins to get their installers right.

  • 2 copies of Nik Silver Efex Pro in Lightroom 2.4

    Hullo
    I have Mac 10.5.7Lightroom 2.4.
    Ever Since I needed to trash Photoshop PS4 ( issues) and re-instated Photoshop CS3.   (Within the next week I will be re-installing  Photoshop CS4)     The following issues have come up in Lightroom.........
    1.    Browser Styles for Silver Efex Pro downloaded for Silver Efex Pro have disappeared.  Have only the styles originals that came with the software.
    Just to add I found I had two copies of Silver Efex Pro in Edit in ( Lightroom) - decided to uncheck save pre-sets with catalogue and this has corrected i. e it has reverted back to 1 copy in Edit in Silver Efex pro.
    2.  After editing in Photoshop PS3 - after save / or Save as  - does not automatically return to Lightroom as previously.  Instead window comes up with options to save somewhere  on my Mac computer?
    3. I am concerned that I have unchecked with " save presets with catalogue as I have read elsewhere that presets will fail to remain with the Catalogue if the "presets save with catalogue" left unchecked
    4. I have an application that does backups once a week on opening Lightroom.  I would like to save on my computer - what is the safest way to delete old backups?thank you
    Sue

  • Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists

    Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists follow link: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111. Have installed Bridge 5.0.2.4; Raw Ref Version 7.0.0.308; DNG converter_8_7_1.dmg; Bridge 5.0.2 Update 2. Also same problem with Lightroom which I don't normally use. Lightroom_3_LS11_mac_3_6.dmg installed.

    In the link you posted it states that the Nikon 810 requires ACR 8.6 or newer.
    Version of ACR are specific to versions of Photoshop. You cannot use 8.6 nor even 7.0.in CS5.
    I believe that ACR 6.7 is the latest that will work with CS5, so make sure you have this installed and get rid of ACR 7.
    Having 2 versions of ACR will cause problems.
    You have already downloaded DNG Converter 8.7.1.
    Have you double clicked the DMG file to allow you to install DNG Converter on your computer?
    Be aware that DNG converter is a stand-along application and not a plug-in.
    You need to open DNG converter at select the FOLDER that contain your .NEF files.
    Don't open the folder and try to select individual files, it doesn't work that way.
    After converting your D810 files to DNGs you can then open the DNGs in CS5
    The problem is your camera didn't exist when CS5 & its version of ACR was developed.
    i don't use Lightroom, but the list mentions Lightroom 5.6 as needed to open D819 so your 3.6 version of LR won't cut it.

  • Unverträglichkeit Adobe Air mit Nik "Silver Efex Pro" unter PS CS5

    Hallo zusammen,

    Or bad karma.
    Thanks for looking at my problem. This all started a month or so ago and I don't have a clue what might have happened. I initially had problems with 64bit and some Nik plugins so I switched to 32bit and everything was humming along. After all the Nik plugins were upgraded I switched back to 64 bit and I think everything was fine at that point. I'm running the same setup on a Mac Pro so I'm guessing it is this laptop (MBP15) that's at fault, but everything else (Lightroom, Aperture, Final Cut Pro, lots of other stuff) runs perfectly. At this point I'm trying to avoid rebuilding the machine but that's probably inevitable.

    Hi Coloredge,
    What operating system are you on, and what happens when you try to open Acrobat? Do you receive any sort of error message?  Did you run into any trouble when you downloaded and installed Acrobat?
    I look forward to hearing back from you so that we can get to the bottom of this.

    My time machine backup disc has apps from Mountain Lion that won't open now that I have Yosemite.  They all say need to be upgraded to Yosemite. Go to app store. But app store sees that I have yosemite so doesn't even show me an udate option. How can Update these files??

    How do you know they won't run in Yosemite? You're not trying to fiddle with stuff in your backup from the Finder, are you? If so you are likely to render that backup unusable.
    WHen when you restore them from your backup, they should be updateable.

  • Stacked Microsoft Apps. Won't open now.

    I recently just stacked icons in my toolbar on my MacBook Pro. When I went to stack my Microsoft Office apps, I went to the applications folder and dragged the black Microsoft folder to my dock. Now the apps won't open--from my toolbar or the app folder. I tried restarting my computer and they still aren't opening. I tried opening a different document and that didn't work either. Help?

    If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
    There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
    *The linked support article refers to OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.
