SilverFast plug-in in CS3

Although I know it's amateurish to scan from within PS, I do it anyway. Just to be perverse. So you'll forgive me that.
On my G5, the SilverFast plug-in has worked flawlessly in CS2 on Panther.
Months ago, I loaded Tiger on another G5 partition and added the CS3 Suite to that same partition. I moved the SilverFast plug-in to my PSCS3 Plug-ins folder too. (Bad?)
I've not been back to Panther or CS2 since but haven't scanned until today. The SilverFast plug-in opens (from the Import menu), it prescans as it should, and it goes through a complete scan (as evidenced by the live progress thumbnail). But then it, and Photoshop, Quit. And they Quit without notice. Nor is any log or report left about the crash on my hard drive.
Is this a matter of updating my SilverFast drivers for Tiger? Or for CS3? Or is it something about disabling or enabling the Twain plug-in which I read about here from time to time?
Any help appreciated.

Went to the website. There are CS3 compatible plug-ins that I'll download. But as an alternative...
Peter, I'm not sure there's a difference between perverse and obstinate. In fact, they're classified as synonyms in most reputable reference books. But even were there a shade of difference between the two, I assure you I meant perverse in the base and unflattering sense of obstinate.
But now you've accused me of obstinacy. Which, of course is very different than accusing myself. You've brought me to my senses in a way that I couldn't on my own. So I'll take your advice and try the standalone. I suppose the only downside is that I will be succumbing to the common wisdom here, always a hazard for unbiddable characters.

    How do I transfer plug ins from CS3 to CS 6?

    You may want to re-download the plugins from where you bought them and install them fresh for CS6. Or at a minimum check to see if new CS6 versions are available. The underlying architecture changed for plug-ins when CS6 was released. Some developers had to re-write CS6 versions. Some may work, while others may have had to be updated to work with CS6.

  • Free (and worthwhile) plug-ins for CS3

    I know that "worthwhile" is subjective. But of course "Free" is not
    subjective.
    I'd like to get some good links for Free PS CS3 plug-ins.
    Thanks for any info offered.

    I used to use virtual photographer from http://www.optikvervelabs.com/
    It doesn't offer all the controls as other photo-effect plugins, but you get some good (or at least interesting) results and the price is right!
    I don't know anything about it, but this site has links to a number of free plug-ins. http://www.thepluginsite.com/resources/freeps.htm I can't recommend however.

  • OpenEXR plug-ins for CS3?

    Are there any Universal Binary OpenEXR plug-ins for Photoshop CS3? The only one I can find is PowerPC only.

    Photoshop CS2, CS3, and CS4 can natively read and write OpenEXR.
    The plugin is on the CD with the optional file formats.

  • Camera Raw Plug in for CS3

    I still use CS3 because I am really fluent in it and can do all the things I need to... scared to upgrade:) My issue is that I just started shooting photos in RAW and cannot open them in Photoshop. I downloaded the camera raw plug in and followed the steps posted on the Adobe site but it still isn't working. Is it impossible for me to open the RAW files in CS3? I have a Canon Rebel T3i. Please help!!! Thank you!

    Your version of Photoshop will not open T3i images directly.  Support wasn't added until Photoshop CS5.
    Prior to the Creative Cloud Adobe stopped updating older versions to be able to read raw files from newer cameras whenever they released a new major version of Photoshop. The version you have is no longer receiving Camera Raw updates.
    You can check it yourself:
    First you need to determine whether Adobe has released support for your new camera in your version of Photoshop. To do that, look at these two pages. You'll want to find out the earliest version of Camera Raw that can support your camera, then what version of Photoshop can run that version of Camera Raw.
    Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
    If you were to have found your camera is supported by your version of Photoshop, you would have needed to download the latest update for Camera Raw. There's more information on how to do that here:
    Keeping Photoshop Up-To-Date
    However, since your version of Photoshop cannot support your camera, you can download and install the latest version of the free Adobe DNG Converter, which can take your raw files as input and put out DNG format files, which your version of Photoshop can open.
    Photoshop Help | Digital Negative (DNG)
    The DNG converter DOES work, but if you want maximal quality from your raw files (not to mention the convenience and ease of use of directly opening your raw files) you'll want the latest version of Photoshop. Adobe has made substantial improvements in raw conversion quality in recent years.

  • What are the best Plug-ins for CS3?

    Im a pretty new CS3 user and also not an expert. Just an old retired guy who always liked Graphics
    and Type programs like Quark, PhotoShop, Illustrator, TypeStyler, etc. Have had InDesign CS3 about
    2 months and LOVE it! (I currently have Illustrator and PhotoShop CS3s.)
    Knowing that I like graphics, are there any graphics type plug-ins that would be good for me to
    add to my InDesign CS3?
    Thank you.

    Teacup Software's Patternmaker is a must have. The price is certainly
    right...it's free. If you really like it you can buy the additional
    PatternPack.

  • Missing Plug-in in CS3

    On opening existing CS3 files a message comes up and says I'm missing
    EXPORT MANAGER.RPLN
    which is a plug-in and asks if I want to open it anyway. Everything opens fine but when saving it's like a "save as" and wants a file name and location - arg!
    I found something about missing InCopy plug-ins and reinstalling them, but that was for CS2, and I can't find any info on this specific plug-in at all.
    Any advice?
    thanks!!

    Thank you both!
    I do have CS3 and this file is a contract file that has been going on for many moons, so it has probably gone through every version on indd since the first. The very strange thing is that this is a new message that just popped up this week and only in these contract files - so far anyway - so, I'm thinking it must have been left over from the old files - and the only thing I did was turn on a layer that has been off for litteraly years due to a missing link that I just recently found - could that have got the file to look for that old plug in?
    I exported as the exchange file & reopened with and without the link layer on and the message is gone and saving perfectly.
    Thank you both!

  • Plug-ins for CS3

    I have students that are attempting to use a template in InDesign CS3. A message indicates the template uses 2 plug-ins; worldready.rpln and conditionaltext.rpln. Are these available for CS3? I believe they are used in CS4.
    Howardc3

    This isn't really a feature request. Next time post your regular questions in the main forum, if you can, please.
    Your students are trying to open files saved from CS4 which cannot be done in CS3. There are two options: Either upgrade (the better option) or have soomeone with CS4 export these files to Interchange Format (.inx) which will open in CS3. Any CS4-only new features will be lost and line endings in the text will probably change a bit due to differnces in the text engines between the two versions.

  • Transferring Boris FS plug-ins from CS3 to CS4 - Mac OSX

    I purchased Continuum Complete 5 AE for Mac OSX to use the plug-ins for my CS3 versions of After Effects and Premiere Pro. Now that I have CS4 versions of After Effects and Premiere Pro, how do transfer the plug-ins to work with the CS4 versions. According to Boris FX website, Continuum Complete is compatible for CS4, but it doesn't mention how to transfer the files. I've emailed them, but haven't heard back from them. Looking within the application folders of the CS3 versions, it doesn't look like it's a simple drag and drop into a plug-in folder. Being that I can't find the plug-ins within the application folder. Does anybody know how to do this?

    What happens when you try to install the plugins to CS4?

  • How to remove multiple copies of plug ins in CS3 AE

    Does anyone know how to remove multiple copies of certain plug ins from Adobe After Effect CS3 ?
    I have Adobe Premier Pro CS3 instaled on same hard drive as AE CS3 , when i start my Adobe AE CS3, then when its loading, a warning message comes and says " you have mulitple copies of these plug ins , you must remove the multiple copies, else it might not function properly "
    Thanks in Advanced !

    Ok, thanks buddy
    well, here is the situation
    I use Windows XP
    AE CS3  as well as premier Cs3
    right at this point of time, i am upgrading the motherBD of my PC so i couldn't be more specific..once i installed the new BDs then i can give you more details..
    all right, I have installed the trapcode and New Blue effect for both Premier and AE, the dublicate plug in is from New Blue , i guess its called "Essentials"
    so, i went inside AE plug ins folder and located the "Essentials" plug in and removed the folder "Essentials" which contains the names of plug ins which i received them at the begining of the program.
    but when i restart the AE , i don't get and error or warning signs anymore BUT when i try to look for the Essentials effect, where all the other effects are, i no longer see the plug in there, just like it was never installed to begin with...
    when i  goto Program Files>>Adobe>>Commen Files>> plug ins
    then  i see the Essentials plug ins there,
    so basically i see the Essentials plug ins in 2 different locations.

  • Porting a plug-in from CS3 to CS4 - IScriptRunner woes

    Hi,
    I'm currently porting an InDesign CS3 plug-in to CS4 and everything seems to compile allright. However, I have some problems getting my IScriptRunner to work. I am aware of some changes to the RunScript() method call, and have changed my code accordingly:
      do
        // Get a handle on the ExtendScript Manager
        InterfacePtr<IScriptManager> scriptManager(Utils<IScriptUtils>()->QueryScriptManager(kJavaScriptMgrBoss));
        ASSERT(scriptManager);
        if (!scriptManager) break;
        InterfacePtr<IScriptRunner> scriptRunner(scriptManager, UseDefaultIID());
        ASSERT(scriptRunner);
        if (!scriptRunner) break;
        RunScriptParams params(scriptRunner);
        params.SetInvokeDebugger(kFalse);
        params.SetShowErrorAlert(kTrue);
        scriptRunner->RunScript(script, params);
      while (false);
    However, now I'm getting assert errors when starting up my plug-in, and the script is not executed (the line that seems to break is the ASSERT(scriptRunner).
    I have read that the implementation of IScriptManager has changed and that IScriptRunner is no longer directly on IScriptManager, but rather on IScriptEngine (is it just me, or is this discussed rather vague in the porting guide?) and I haved tried using the IScriptManager::QueryDefaultEngine() method to get an IScriptEngine (and got one), but so far I have been unable to extract an IScriptRunner from there.
    InterfacePtr<IScriptEngine> scriptEngine(scriptManager->QueryDefaultEngine());
    ASSERT(scriptEngine);
    if (!scriptEngine) break;
    // Will not compile:
    //   error C2664: 'InterfacePtr<IFace>::InterfacePtr(const IPMUnknown *,PMIID)' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'InterfacePtr<IFace>' to 'const IPMUnknown *'
    InterfacePtr<IScriptRunner> scriptRunner(scriptEngine, UseDefaultIID());
    ASSERT(scriptRunner);
    if (!scriptRunner) break;
    Anyone who has an idea as to how to fix this?
    Thanks!
    Kind regards
    Message was edited by: WouterDem - Fixed some typos in the code snippets.

    Hi,
    I have been able to get an instance of IScriptRunner through the method you've provided, which I then use to execute a script from a PMString:
    IDFile libMyPlugin = IDFile();
    ... // Fill in the path to the ExtendScript library.
    InterfacePtr<IScriptRunner> scriptRunner(Utils<IScriptUtils>()->QueryScriptRunner(libMyPlugin));
    ASSERT(scriptRunner);
    if (!scriptRunner) break;
    PMString script("MyPluginLib.SomeExtendScriptFunction()");
    RunScriptParams params(scriptRunner);
    params.SetInvokeDebugger(kFalse);
    params.SetShowErrorAlert(kTrue);
    scriptRunner->RunScript(script, params);
    As you can see, an ExtendScript library is loaded earlier and I'm using this file to get to my script runner.
    This seems to work, however I get an assertion error now:
    ASSERT 'RequestContext( fRequestContext ) == RequestContext( other->GetRequestContext() )' in c:\Development\basil\source\public\libs\publiclib\scripting\CScriptEventData.cpp at line 742 failed.
    c:\Development\basil\source\public\libs\publiclib\scripting\CScriptEventData.cpp (742)
    Does anybody have an idea?

  • Camera RAW 4.6 plug-in for CS3 on Mac - download problem

    When I download and try to install Camera RAW 4.6 on my Mac (OSX 10.7.5, Safari browser) I get the following message "Could not complete your request because photoshop does not recognize this type of file."  Suggestions?

    You're trying to open the plug-in instead of manually installing it in the appropriate location (folder) and then relaunching Photoshop.
    Read the instructions again.
    This is the correct path to the File Formats folder.  Notice that you start in the ROOT LEVEL library, not your User Library:

  • Cannot find raw converter plug in for CS3 / Nikon D90

    I was adviced to go to adobe.com and make a search for raw converter, and that gave me hundreds of results, but no converter plug in,
    Can someone give me a direct link
    Thanks

    You want the DNG converter from here
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4365
    It is not a plug-in but a standalone program which converts raw files to the DNG format that can be read in PS/Bridge.
