Silverlight causing computer to freeze

a dialogue box appears asking for permission to open silverlight when I try to log on to my online bank acc. The computer then freezes and I can't give or refuse permission.

Hi,
You could try to clean the corrupted Silverlight installation and reinstall the Silverlight:

Besides, make sure you are running a Silverlight-compatible operating system, browser

downloading itunes causes computer to freeze because of high computer usage...how do i fix it?

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Connecting ipod causes computer to freeze

Hello, I'm not sure which ipod I have (a 20 gig purchased around Dec. 2004). I just got a new computer with Windows Vista because my old one (which my ipod was configured to) died. That computer had Windows XP. I installed the latest version of iTunes on the new computer and tried to connect my iPod to the new computer and it causes iTunes as well as my entire computer to freeze when the iPod is connected via USB. However, when I disconnect the iPod the computer unfreezes. I would like to synch my ipod with the new computer so I can add everything from the ipod onto the new computer. Does anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?

I am having a similar problem. My whole computer doesn't freeze just "my computer" and itunes. But both windows and itunes don't recognize my ipod. I restored my ipod using a mac (erasing all my songs) and re-restored it on my pc. (It did recognize my ipod once I had formatted it on a mac first and asked for a reformat to windows) But it would not sync once I had finished with the restore. Please help?

  • Iphone causes computer to freeze while on dock.

Hey guys, I just opened up my iphone today and it's great. However, my iphone causes my computer to freeze. I'm using the universal dock and the oem usb cable to connect to my computer (USB 2.0). While plugged in the iphone charges and shows the screen with battery indicator. However, after a while my iphone's wallpaper comes up and freezes my computer (have to restart computer). My iphone is still fully functional though.
So here's what I tried so far that didn't work:
    1. Reinstalling itunes (latest).
    2. Reinstalling USB 2.0 drivers for my motherboard.
    3. Powercycling iphone.
    4. Restarting computer.
    5. Switching USB ports.
    6. Turning off auto-lock.
I built my computer myself and some of the specs are:
    AMD64 3200
    Asus K8V Deluxe
    2GB ram
Windows XP Pro SP2 (Fresh Install)

Okay so I have tried and it still freezes:
    - Changing USB ports to high speed 480MBps in bios
    - Changing USB cables
    - Using it without the universal dock
    - Used a seperate partition (another windows xp system partition)
None of these resolved my issues so far. Right now I have it hooked up to my macbook pro and I'm monitoring how it's going. Anyone has had similar experiences with this? Tomorrow I'm going to try to plug in my brother's ipod just to see if it freezes also.

  • Webroot Anti-Virus/Spysweeper Causing Computer to Freeze

Hey there! I've got a question in regards to anti-virus software.
I've got Webroot Anti-Virus/Spysweeper installed as my anti-virus on my computer (I've got Windows Vista Ultimate as my operating system). I installed  it at the recommendation of the Geek Squad guy at my local Best Buy because McAfee was causing a lot of problems on my computer. Everything with my Webroot was running fine until recently.
I'm not sure what caused the problem, but when I started having problems last Friday when I went to restart my computer. It would get to the log in screen, and I'd log in. Eventually, my desktop would come up, but my computer wouldn't connect to my internet, and eventually would just freeze up. This continued until I essentially couldn't get into my computer. I took my computer to the helpdesk at my school, and one of their tech guys said that he tracked the problem to my Webroot Anti-Virus software. I got my computer back with the Webroot disabled, and sure enough, it ran fine. When I went in through the MSCONFIG and turned the Webroot back on and attempted to start up my computer again, it froze up just like it had before. However, when I disabled it through the MSCONFIG, my computer started up and ran just fine once more. My gut tells me it has something to do with my Windows Defender and Firewall running at start up, but I'm not entirely sure.
What I'm asking is has anyone else had this problem before? If so, were you able to solve it without uninstalling the Webroot? What did you do? I'm asking because I really like the Webroot software, haven't even had it for a year, and I really don't want my money to go to waste. And please, don't tell me to uninstall Webroot and get something different, because right now, I just can't afford to do that.
Thanks to everyone who helps!! It's much appreciated!

Hopefully this site can get you a general idea of whats going on, I have no clue to be honest with you..

  • Instant Alpha in iPages on Mini causing computer to freeze. Help?

I just bought a brand new Mini, hoping to aleviate the former problem I was having with my old Mini - and its STILL happening! Why is Instant Alpha causing the whole computer to hang/freeze? How can I fix this? Any help much appreciated.

    Hi.
That song file is mostly damaged or corrupted. You should check the Console (in Applications/Utilities) it may provide some more info about the incident. If you imported it from a CD, you could try deleting and re-importing it.
    Good Luck.

  • ITunes causing computer to freeze

Whenever I have iTunes running, when I click on it, or choose a song, or open it
    ANYTHING
It will freeze my computer for a couple of seconds, lock my mouse position, whatever I'm doing
It even happens when I play games, it will freeze the game, then continue
When I close iTunes it stops freezing altogether
I would love some help, please

I have pretty much given up hope. I have not been able to use iTunes since I got a new computer on 1/29/08. Apple doesn't seem to care or think that there is a problem. I am in the process of converting my files back to mp3 but am trying to figure out how to salvage the 200 protected aac files that I have. Very disapointing that it has taken this long.

  • SERIOUSLY NEED HELP! Computer trying to display tons of jpegs when booting; causes computer to freeze.

Please help me. This is a terrible situation. Last night, I was making a movie with iMovie and trying to find a way to export it that would be compatible with the item on which I am going to be displaying it (an Epson MovieMate via a USB Thumb Drive). I was SO frustrated that none of the formats iMovie could export in were compatible with the MovieMate, and also frustrated that the software I found to convert it from one of the iMovie formats to a format usable on MovieMate wouldn't convert the entire movie for free in its trial version, only half the movie.
Desperate for a solution, I was going through all the different ways iMovie could export, and I found it odd, but I found this jpeg one. Knowing that jpeg is a format for still photo files, it did strike me as odd, but I thought I would give it a try and see what would happen. After all, my "movie" is just one still photo with music playing for a half-hour. It said it would take over 40 minutes to create the "movie," so I went to bed.
To my shock, when I got up this morning, my computer was freaking out. It said that it had no more memory left or something like that, and prompted me to quit a bunch of open programs that weren't responding. I tried to do this, but it just wasn't handling things. Eventually the clock stopped progressing but I could still hear the processor working, so I just hoped it would work through the issue then snap out of it sort of, but instead, I eventually stopped hearing the processor sounds, and the cursor was also frozen. At this point I could see the whole computer was frozen, so I held down the power button for a few seconds to force the computer to turn off.
When I restarted it, it was trying to re-start all the applications I'd had open previously. After several minutes of trying to get it to quit all these things, it finally did, but nothing was displaying on my desktop yet. Normally there would be a HD disk image and a few folders. I had seen in a Finder window that there were tons of jpeg files supposedly on the desktop (where I had designated the file to save to), but I couldn't see how many. It never occurred to me that this is how iMovie would render things when I told it to save the project in jpeg format. I expected one jpeg file, not some tremendous and unknown amount. There may be hundreds or thousands if it created a jpeg for each "frame." Even if it created one jpeg file per second, that would be 1,800, and I suspect there's more than that. There could be several per second. Five per second would be 9,000 jpeg files. I hate to think but there may be a whole lot more than that even.
Finder continued to "think." I was never able to access it to do anything with it. There was a "stuck" Finder window which was displaying the Desktop folder, which is how I saw that there are multiple jpegs there. After a few minutes, I re-launched the Finder and was able to command it to not try to open a Finder window upon re-launch. After it re-launched, I could hear the processor working for a few more minutes. I think it obviously was working to display all the files on the desktop. The clock froze again, and the cursor movement was jumpy. Shortly, the cursor would not move anymore, and I could not hear the processor sounds anymore. The computer was frozen again. I held down the power button again to force it to shut down. When I re-started it, I logged into the Admin account (which I am using right now), which is the only way I think I can use my computer right now. I was also hoping I could access the files from the Admin account and just get them to display in a window so that I could delete them. I just want to delete them at this point. I wish I had never done this! I wish iMovie didn't even have that option or that iMovie would have explained to me what was going to happen if I were to proceed! I don't use my Admin account very often and wasn't really sure what it would be capable of doing. I can open a Finder window and access my Time Capsule, which contains something that looks like my hard drive image but when I double click on it, I get an error that says The following disk images could not be opened Macintosh.sparsebundle: Resource temporarily unavailable.
Anyway, please help! What do I do to get my computer back to normal??? I just want all those jpegs deleted and want to be able to log in and boot up like normal! This is a terrible situation as I use my computer for work and everything. I was needing to print some things for a presentation tonight. Please help me! Thank you!
    Melanie
P.S. I just now got a Time Capsule backup message that came up and said Time Capsule could not complete its backup because Time Machine is unavailable! I am concerned this jpeg situation has gotten completely out of control and has gone beyond affecting my computer to also affecting my Time Machine!
(Also, additionally, assuming I can get my regular user account to boot up again at some point, if anybody happens to know how to get an iMovie file to save as .mpe, .mpg, .mpeg, .dat, or .vob, that information would be greatly appreciated.)

It worked! Thank you! I finally just finished about 20 minutes ago! It took over 26 hours to complete the process you described, but I stuck with it and it worked. I am glad I didn't give up or "forget it" as some might have suggested. That would have set me back until tomorrow!
Ultimately, it turned out there were 45,910 jpgs created. No wonder it took so many hours to render/display them all. It ended up being about 10 hours before it seemed they were all rendered but the process between them displaying and being able to start really deleting them took a few hours because partly I was asleep and also partly it took forever to do anything. Any action as simple as selecting and right-clicking to Get Info, or emptying the trash, would take 20-30 minutes, a couple times longer. The clock stopped many times for 20-30 minutes at a time, a few times over 30 minutes, before catching back up. My cursor never froze which is what really kept me going, although it was a spinning beach ball for most of the time. I was never so relieved to see my regular cursor as opposed to seeing a spinning beach ball as I was early this morning after about 10 hours!
Once I was able to open a Finder window and select all 45,900 files (I had already deleted 10 in the previous couple hours during experimenting of trying to figure out what would work best), then right-click and select to move all the files to the trash, the process of moving them to the trash took 4.5 hours. Then deleting them from the trash took a couple minutes. There were 21.4 GB!!! No wonder the whole process took 26 hours!
    mende1, thank you so much!

  • What may be causing computer to freeze up and show Firefox taking 50% of CPU? I am using Firefox version 4.0.1

While viewing charts on the Scottrade website, computer slowed to a crawl. I went to Windows Task Manger to see if another program was running in the background. Task Manager showed that firefox was using 50% of CPU

Just for starters, your My Web Search plug-in is generally regarded as malware. Try Googling "my web search plug -in" or use the Search Firefox Help box above
Use the quotes. In the box above click the entries even if they seem to be about something else e.g. "Adobe".
You should then work your way through(Safe Mode, Problematic Extensions etc) -
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting%20extensions%20and%20themes
The Scottrade site does kick up cpu usage(to around 30% on my Firefox) on loading but immediately settles down.

  • Attaching Iphone to computer causes computer to freeze--why??

I activated my Iphone with no problem three days ago, but yesterday when I attached it to my Toshiba laptop to charge the battery and load my playlist from Itunes, the computer first said that it had found new hardward--a camera because I do have photos on the camera roll, and then the screen immediately went blank, and the system locked up. The only way I could get out was to power down. I have installed a new version of Itunes, tried my husband's Iphone and docking station (activated at the same time as mine), and different USB ports--all to no avail. Help?!) Thanks. Jane

    Jane,
You can also try testing in a new Windows user to see if the issue continues. If it does, use this article to try and isolate other pieces of software that might be conflicting:

    For Vista - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305415

  • ITunes is causing entire computer to freeze.....

iTunes is causing my entire computer to freeze since my last upgrade. If I'm using the application or its up and I'm not using it, after a while, it will cause the entire computer to freeze and I have to do an emergency shutdown because my mouse won't even move. Everything is locked up @ this point. Having the iPod plug in without the application up doesn't really seem to bother from what I've seen it but there were occasions when the iPod was plugged in and the application was in use that the computer made this skitzing sound and then completely locked up. I got the blue screen on approx. 2 occasions. And when I plug my iPod up to some speakers in the same manner you plug up headphones (Sony brand), I got that same skitzing sound while listening to one of the songs, but it didn't stop playing.
It has froze/shutdown while using the application alone while I'm browsing the store for different items. This is the majority of the times it has happen.
It has froze/shutdown while the iPod was plugged in.
It has froze/shutdown while the application has been open on the computer but not in use. And this is the only common factor going on in relation to the shutdowns.
I use the same thing basically everytime I come on this computer. Always FireFox, MSN, Gmail Talk, & Yahoo Messenger running in the background. <--- This hasn't caused a problem before. And that's about it. I've had the computer to slow down due to low memory but not the skitzing sounds and frequency of shutdowns its experiencing now.
Can anybody relate to this and if so, then what should I do? Is there a problem with the last release? And at this point, what should I do about this?

i had a similar problem recently. what happened to me was that itunes was doing some kinda "reeding" of music files of some sort [i honestly dont remember the exact name of the action], but whenever it got to a certain song, it would do the same thing you are describing which is crash the computer or freeze it up. i decided to actually FIND the file that was causing the problem and when i got rig of the file and started itunes [this after having to turn itunes on and watch my computer freeze up again to acquire the song name] it worked perfectly.
it seems to me that [since the file itself was a rip of a rip] it might have been corrupted some how and so itunes didnt know what to do with it. i looked at the file and an mp3 file that should be in the range of 2-5mb was actually in the range of 1-200kb which leads me to believe that the file was corrupted.
i dont know if that will help, but i hope you get your problem resolved...

  • Cookies.sqlite folder is causing computer freezes/crashes. HD-problem ? Firefox-problem ? virus problem ? Solution ??

Hi, this is a bit complicated so please bear with me. Thank you.
Simply put my question is: What exactly is stored in "cookies.sqlite" ? I notice there are many cookies-files in my profile, such as "cookies.sqlite.bak", "cookies.sqlite-shm", "cookies.sqlite-wal" etc. What exactly gets lost if I delete "cookies sqlite" ? Can I even do that without hurting the rest of my profile ?
And could there be anything in this "cookies sqlite" folder that is causing Firefox not to run and my computer to freeze every time I try ?
Reason for asking: Not sure if I have a corrupted Firefox file, a hard drive problem or another problem.
Background info: The day before yesterday, my notebook (Lenovo, XP) was working fine. When I went to start it up yesterday, it did not boot properly. I tried a couple of times and eventually it worked. I tried to open Firefox which caused the computer to freeze. When I forced a shut-down and turned it back on, it ran checkdisk. It detected something, fixed it and started back up again. Explorer worked, so I went ahead and saved all my data manually. Then I wanted to save my Firefox profile as well and the computer froze. I started it back up, tried again and the same thing happened. I then tried again file-by-file. The file freezing my system turned out to be "cookies sqlite". I was able to copy all other files (including all other cookie-files). But when I touched "cookies.sqlite" (and we're talking copy and paste to an external HD) the machine froze. I tried the same thing through a Ubuntu live CD and again I was able to copy all of the profile except the cookies sqlite file. I tried doing an Acronis backup and there were some reading errors at the very end of the backup. I ran Lenovo's PC doctor that said that there is a hard drive problem. I ran chkdisk from the command line and the computer froze during chkdsk. I tried to see what on the computer was still working and it turned out that nearly everything was fine. I was able to start Opera and Thunderbird, burn DVDs etc. But when I tried Firefox again the computer froze. Every time it freezes and I force a shut-down and re-boot it, I get something different on chkdsk. Sometimes nothing (all is well), sometimes something is repaired or deleted at various stages of chkdsk. But apart from that the computer works just fine. Well, almost: The only other thing that causes problems is running a virus scan (with Avast anti-virus). Again the computer crashes towards the end of the check (similar to Avast) and I get a "kernel_stack_inpage_error" with a bunch of number codes. Running scans with anti-malware-tools (Malawarebytes, Superantispyware, Spybot) is fine and nothing is found.
So my question would be: is it possible that that cookies.sqlite file is somehow corrupted and is causing all these problems ? Or is it a malfunctioning hard-drive with an isolated problem in the area where this file is located ? What is the best way to find out ? (Given that I can neither run chkdsk from the command line, neither run an antivirus scan). What can I try to do about it ? What happens if I delete the "cookies.sqlite" - file and replace it with an older version ? Could that solve the problem ? Or will it cause even more ? And is there any chance to save the data from that cookies.sqlite-file ? Safe mode does not work (same thing: computer freezes), neither does Ubuntu live CD.
Oh, and the hard drive is a Hitachi Travelstar which is about 3 years old, so it should still have lots of life left.
    Thanks a million!
    eLeo
