  • Sim card tray stuck in iPhone 3G? (pics)

My current phone is a CDMA phone and I needed a GSM phone for my high school trip to France, so my father brought a cheap iPhone 3G on eBay that seemed to be in very good condition. Today the international sim card he brought came in the mail, and I'm having trouble getting the sim card tray out of this phone.
I tried using a stripped down pipe cleaner to open the sim card tray at the top, which appeared to work just fine at first.
When you push the pipe cleaner into the tiny hole, the tray only pops out this far, at the most.
After a little bit of tugging, I can get it out just a tiny bit further. This part makes me nervous, though. When I pull it this far, I hear a weird grinding sound, like two milk carton caps being rubbed together. I try not to put too much force on it after this point in fear of snapping the tray in half.
NOW I CAN LITERALLY HOLD UP THE ENTIRE PHONE JUST BY HOLDING THE TOP OF THE SIM CARD TRAY. If the rest of the iPhone was built like this stupid sim card tray, I think the tech repair industry would go out of business :/
Since I just brought a cheap phone on eBay, I doubt it's still under warranty. I usually have nothing to do with Apple, so I don't know what their repair service is like, but I do know that: 1)I don't have $300 to spend on repairing a $50 phone. and 2)There's no Apple stores within 100 miles of me (although there is a tech repair shop nearby, I never went there before and don't know what they do)
Is there anything I can do by myself to get that tray out? I really don't feel like wasting more money, but I'm very frustrated right now. I just really desperately want to get the phone working before the trip in two weeks.

Sorry for being a bother, but now it looks like taking it to a third party shop is my only option.
My mother heard me complaining about the phone and decided to "fix" it herself. Long story short, she snapped the tray in half and now I have half a tray in my hand and the other half stuck in the phone.
I'll see if I can coax the rest out with a pipe cleaner, as the rest of the phone seems to still be just fine. For now I'll just wait for my father to come home while I avoid eye contact with my mother for the rest of the day.
And thanks for the bit about sim card itself, but I think that much is covered already. Unlike my mother, my father knows how phones work so I don't believe the sim card would be too difficult for him once we replace the tray

  • SIM CARD TRAY BROKEN INSIDE IPHONE

Ok, here's the problem, I took out my sim card tray to try a new sim. However I managed to put the tray back in the wrong way. I managed to get the tray back out about a third of the way and remove the sim but then the tray broke. My phone is no longer under warranty so should I just remove the back casing and get the broken tray out or send it off for repair? I watched a few videos on youtube so getting the back off doesnt seem a problem I just don't want to damage any electronics inside. (WHY BUILD A SIM TRAY SO FLIMSY IN THE FIRST PLACE???)
Any help much appreciated. I live in the UK so how much would a repair like this cost?

You could try making an appointment at an Apple store, the geniuses have tools to get the sim try out without damage...I know you're out of warranty, but if you're nice, you never know, they just might do it for you. Otherwise, google third party repair services in your area...unless you're skilled at working with micro electronics don't mess with it yourself.

  • Nano-simcard stuck in the sim-card tray :(

I've gotten a nano-sim stuck in the sim-card tray. Is there any way to get it out?

    Hi Klingenberg,
The best thing that we can suggest you to do is to bring the phone to the nearest Nokia Care Center. They will be able to help you physically in removing the SIM stuck on the SIM card tray and avoid further physical damage on it.

  • Will Apple replace my iPhone 3GS out of warranty due to accidental liquid exposure and a broken sim card tray?

Like many people, my iPhone 3GS was recently exposed to liquid and the phone immediately died. The sim card was not exposed to direct liquid and I was able to get it out; however, the sim card tray was siezed up and would not eject, so when removing the sim card, the tray broke. I have filed an out of warranty claim to get it replaced; however, upon reading some of their disclaimers, I noticed that Apple has a section where they won't replace a phone exposed to liquid damage.
I have read various posts on these forums that say they will however. I am curious if I should send my phone off to get replaced...or if doing so would be a waste of money and time. There is a clause that says they can choose to not replace the phone and still bill you for time to examine the phone.
    Please help.

Out of warranty replacements cover just that and also accidental damage if in warranty
as long as iPhone isn't in many pieces
In US the cost is $149 for a 3G /GS /4 and $199 for a 4S other countries similar in local currency

Dont worry. Just light a match, and set fire to whatever is left in the hole.

  • Can't open my sim card tray

I can't open my sim card tray -- have tried paper clip, safety pin, etc...

Yes if its a one time problem one should visit the local store but since one might need it again and its a universal tool for all iphones and ipads so it might come handy some day or the other.
    Its not very expensive

This listing is for less than a dollar and has three of them for less thana dollar and the SIM ejection tool can be kept in your iphone box or in your wallet.

  • HT4528 Does the iphone 4 have a sim card tray, and if so where is it.

Does the iphone 4 have a sim card tray, and if so where

I you have an iPhone you have it ALL!
OK I think I can help you on this one, I think there is a missconception on the terminology, if the iPhone is from AT&T it does have a SIM card tray, you will find it on the left side of the iPhone. All you need is the key insert it in the little hole and it pops out.
If the iPhone 4 is from Verizon it DOES NOT have a sim card tray.
What the sales person told your sister is accurate, the iPhone does not have a slot for an SD card which is an "storage" card mainly used to store all sorts of data such as pictures, videos and more.
Locally the iphone has lots of storage capacity so your sister wont have the necesity of ever expanding her cellphone memory for the very reason of that she has the best cellular device in the market which is an IPHONE!
I don't think she will ever fill up her iphone's memory.
Here is what I found in effort to expand the differences between the SD card and SIM card
-Secure Digital (SD) is a non-volatile memory card format developed by Panasonic, SanDisk, and Toshiba for use in portable devices to store data.
-A subscriber identity module or subscriber identification module (SIM) is an integrated circuit that securely stores the international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) and the related key used to identify and authenticate subscribers on mobile telephony devices (such as mobile phones andcomputers).
I hope this helps your sister.
