Sim card with Find My iPhone
My iPhone 6 with iOS 8 was stolen yesterday but died before it got to a place with decent service so I wasn't able to track it. I was wondering if there was any way for the thief to disable it. I have find my iphone turned on and it's jailbroken also so they can't turn on airplane mode or turn off the device without the passcode. It's also in lost mode so they need my iCloud password to restore it. If they remove the sim card will find my iphone still work? I'm hoping that when they charge it it will come up on Find My iPhone and I can go get it back but I wasn't sure if there were other ways of disabling it. Thanks
The fact that it is jailbroken is definitely a concern. Since jailbreaking modifies the iOS, then it is extremely possible that the security of the device is compromised. Honestly, all bets are off on whether or not Find My iPhone will work properly, or whether or not anything can be bypassed.
And your Apple ID password isn't required to force a restore via Recovery Mode. Activation Lock should protect the device if it is forced into Recovery Mode, since that's an Apple server-side function.

i unlocked my iphone 4 factory and i upgrade to 6.1 when i connect it to itunes it apears
The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported
This iPhone is not currently setup to work with carrier you're attempting to use. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked. It sounds like you or someone else hacked the phone to unlock it. Updating it locked it to the original carrier.
How did you unlock it? The ONLY legitimate way is to ask the carrier it is locked to to unlock it. Any other way requires hacking or jailbreaking the phone. -
Hello i try to use another SIM card with my iphone 4s now it said i need to unlock the phone with my Sim carrier ... here is what it says below
The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.
The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information.So.. You need to contact the carrier for the iPhone's original sim card, and request they unlock it. The carrier is the only one that can unlock the sim of the iPhone.

every time I swap between my SIM cards with the iPhone all the messages that we're sent whenever the SIM card was not in my phone never show! is there anyway I can stop this and still get the massages?
Hello SeamusFitz,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
In order to get your messages to show up on your other phone, you would need to have a backup of the phone with the messages, and then restore the new phone from that backup.
According to article iTunes: About iOS backups found here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946 iTunes will backup your Messages.
iTunes will back up the following information
Messages (iMessage and carrier SMS or MMS pictures and videos).
This will help you backup and restore your device:

"No SIM card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate" after updating to iOS 5.
Living in Canada with Rogers service provider. Its an IMEI issue. In my case, about a year ago, after originally purchasing my iP4 from AT&T store, I had a prox. sensor issue. Went to the Apple Store, they replaced the phone. Here is where it all stems from. The IMEI of the new phone was never updated in AT&T/Carriers systems. For iOS updates prior to iOS5, this was not an issue. My phone did its iOS updates along the way with no probs. However, when I updated to iOS5, the firmware did not match the IMEI with what AT&T/carrier had. When I went to Apple Store for the issue about 3 days ago and was given a new phone....again....the new phones IMEI was never updated with AT&T/carrier. I then again attempted the upgrade to iOS5 with the new phone and iOS5 bricked that one also. Today, at the store, we tried 3 replacements with same outcome.
So, after 4 hours and 3 replacement phones with Apple Store Tech (BTW totally gobsmacked), we solved the issue. Luckily, due to iPhone 4S launch, there was an AT&T guy there with a computer tied to the AT&T network to work along with us. The issue is......once the IMEI's on carrier account and phone do not match, iOS5 shuts down the sim card reader within phone.....forever. How to reverse this?......this is a question Apple needs to come up with, because with my case, they have 5 "bricked" phones.
What solved the issue was to get a new phone with iOS4.3.5, new SIM from carrier/AT&T, have carrier/AT&T (in their system) change/match the IMEI to the new phone and activate new SIM. Then, do iOS5 upgrade.
Simple and makes total sense..........however........there is an internal firmware (Apple Security??) issue that bricks the phone once IMEI's dont match.
I am now on iOS5.....no problems......so far. Good luck to all others. -
Can I use a local sim card with my Australian bought iPhone and iPad?
I bought my iPhone 4 and iPad2 in Australia. I'm travelling to South Korea and Japan for two weeks. Can I use a local sim card with my Australian bought iPhone? If so, can I still link my iPad2 to my iPhone4 with a personal hot spot?
Only if your phone is officially unlocked. Is it?

Only compatible SIM cards from a supported Carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported Carrier's store to receive a replacement SIM card.I got the same message.
I bought an iPhone 5 at full retail price from an AT&T store. I requested the phone to be unlocked through their unlock portal. The AT&T unlock system asked for the IMEI number, a copy of my receipt showing that I bougth the phone at "No Commitment" price. A few hours later I received a message from AT&T stating that the unlock request was approved. I then followed the instructions to back up the phone and restore it through Itunes. The phone activates normally with the AT&T SIM card. But when I insert my VODAFONE SIM I get the massage "THE SIM CARD... etc.
I tried again to back up & restore the phone 3 or 4 times, no success. I have also allowed 24 hours for the unlock process to complete. Still no luck.
I have checked again on the AT&T Unlock Status portal and it shows "Unlock approved".
Where is the issue here? Do I have to call Apple or return the phone to AT&T and get the unlocked phone through the Apple Store?
Thanks for any help on this. -

not appear to be supported.
Only compatible SIM cards from a supported Carrier may be used
to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your
iPhone or visit a supported Carrier's store to receive a
replacement SIM card.It appears that you have an iPhone that is locked to a carrier other than the one you were using. Now that you have tried to update the iOS, it has relocked. That is what happens if you are using a phone that has been hacked to unlock. You have also forfeited support from Apple and from this forum.

This iPhone is not currently setup to work with carrier you're attempting to use. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked.Sounds like you are trying to use an iPhone that is locked to a particular
wireless carrier with the sim from another wireless carrier. Contact the wireless
provider that the iPhone is locked to and ask if they offer unlocking and if
you qualify. Only the wireless carrier that the iPhone is locked to can unlock
it.
