SIM failures w/iOS7.0 & 7.02

I have an iPhone 4s, upgraded to iOS7.0 then 7.02 and each time I got a SIM failure message and the phone would not connect to Verizon. Had to power down, remove the SIM card, wait 2 min then reinstall SIM. Only then did it connect to VZN.  Why is this occurring?? You buy the product and trust that it will work properly, isn't that what we're paying all this money for??

Ifeel miserable after trying out all the options changed multiple sims, tried multiple carriers, restored the phone back and have set-up as new device but the problem does not get solved... its is so frustrating that after investing on a world's most expensive phone you cannot enjoy the calling features which the phone offers which is the main thing you own the phone for.. Rest of the things are working.. The funniest part I am not able to make calls or receive calls but can access the internet..  I have tried every possible thing and really very frustrated with this iphone of mine...I hope the problem gets solved.. would anyone have any solutions to this problem.. Does it mean one should never update software as I hear that after updating to IOS.5.1 the problem has started coming and same has been with there.... Apple says its a hardware failure which is very difficult to digest as sometimes I get 5 bars and able to make and receive calls but 95% of the time I am unable to. If anyone has any solution I will be very happy if he or share can share the same. Many thanks. its so disgusting to experience this on top of this apple does not support global warranty for the phone as you need to go to the country from where you bought the phone for replacement.. Truly sad state of affairs.. very very very dissappointing.

    When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

    Looks like the Sim card had a catastrophic failure. Burnout, short somethng like that.
    You can try to take out the tray and reseat the sim card inside and see if that gets it back.
    Also try resetting the phone at least once by holding down the home and power buttons until the Apple Logo shows up.
    If none of this works you'll have to contact your cell carrier to get a new sim card, as it probably fried and is no longer functional.

    Few gentlemen told me, to replace sim card. Here is what I did,
    1) I am from India. I was using Vodafone 3g micro sim. Everyday, 4-5 times in the ideal mode I got messages like Sim failure and invalid sim. I have to restart my iPhone everytime. Then only it was working.
    2) I posted the question, people said its my card problem
    3) I bought new BSNL 3G micro sim card for iPhone. I inserted the card and got 3G working.
    4) After 3 hours, I saw No service message. I waited for some time, i went to outside to see if it was a network issue. Nothing changed.
    5) I rebooted my iPhone, it immediaetly picked the network.
    6) After few hours, again it lost and said no service.
    7) I then didn't rebooted it.
    8) In the morning,  I saw Sim Failure and invalid sim message. Useless
    9) I now rebooted and Sim is working with 3G network.
    Now please ,
    is this iPhone issue? It is for sure. I am tired now. Battery is dying and with this Sim Failure and No service, I am totally disappointed.

    I read all your messages above , I am facing the same problem as u faced.
    My Iphone 4S and it was working fine (5.0) until i upgrade to 5.0.1(9A406).
    Now I am facing alot of network issues.  I get messages liek NO Sim , SIM FAILURE. 
    I even restored the sowftware from ITUNES but i am still facing the same problem.
    I was using Vodafone first but I heard that due to problem in micro sim reader of Iphone 4s i shd use a 128 K or 64 K sim.. Since only Airtel provided 64K sim ...I installed that in my phone. But still i am facing the same issue.
    I would appreciate if you can tell me whats Tweaked version of 5.0.1.
    the current software installed on my phone is 5.0.1 (9A406).

  • Sim not recognised / SIM failure

    Hi all, hope you can help a frustrated iphone 3GS user
    I was given the phone by a friend a few days ago and had it unlocked (from Orange) before I flew home to Spain.
    I put in my Vodaphone payg sim card but the phone keeps coming up as sim failure.  I managed to get the phone to synch with my itunes account by putting it in flight mode, I can get the wifi working, music .. everything ... but can I get it to recognise the sim card and let me make a call ... no!!!!!
    I know the Vodaphone sim card works as I have another phone here.  In settings / phone / my number is showing "unknown".  At the bottom is still an Orange button so you can link to their site
    Sometimes it tells me the sim is locked, and then I put in the pin but nothing changes .. still cant make a call.
    The phone was unlocked with an invalid sim card in it I think.
    So anyone have any ideas?  As far as I know UK iphones work with Spanish SIMS, ...... I'm beginning to wonder if the unlock has worked, which is a bit annoying because I paid £35 for it as I was in a rush

    No, it doesn't give me any satisfaction. I think services like the one you linked to and the "stores" that will 'unlock' iPhones for people should be shut down and their owners jailed for the criminals they are. They can not deliver the service they claim to deliver. It saddens me to see people here on a daily basis who have been robbed.
    Every carrier that offers unlocking has slightly different policies for processing an unlock request, so it's not possible to say there is no way you can buy a second hand iPhone and have it unlocked, but it's not a good bargain. Buying a second hand phone that has ALREADY been legitimately unlocked is OK. The problem there is being able to trust the seller that it wa actually legitimately unlocked and not hacked. Hacked phones will revert to their locked state if iOS is restored or updated.

    I'm sorry to hear that your iPhone 4s was lost, and glad that you were able to upgrade. 
    If your iPhone 4s was backed up to iCloud or using iTunes, you can restore the backed up data to your new phone.

    If  that doesn't work, you can just take out the sim and put it back in. To take it out, you put a paperclip into the small hole on the right side of you iphone. Press it in and the sim will eject. Then just press it back in once removed. Hope this helps.

    Have you tried removing and replacing the SIM? If that doesn't work, try a new SIM from Verizon, they will usually swap them out for you for free. If those don't work, you might need to get the phone checked out, it may have a bad SIM port.

    Thanks for getting back to me.  How can I initiate Verizon sending me a new SIM card?  I will be here  long enough to receive it if they can send it to me.
    I have been trying to call Verizon Wireless, but they won’t take my call from my Skype account and I don’t have my phone.

  • Just updated my iphone 4s and now my phone says sim failure

    I just updated my iphone 4s to ios 6.1.3 and then a message came up saying 'sim failure' and it said 'invalid sim' where my carrier name should have been at the top. I turned it off and on again to try to fix this but now it just says searching where my carriers name should be.Now it wont let me send texts or phone anyone because it says my number is unknown.
    Does anyone know how to fix this without having to get a new sim card?

    Remove and re-insert the SIM.
    If the problem continues, replace the SIM.

  • SIM Failure and No Service

    Just trying to see if there's a fix for this.
    Several months ago I was having this problem, it went away and now it seems to have surfaced again.  It started this past Saturday and I'm not sure why or, what to do about fixing it.  My phone will sporadically display the message 'SIM Failure' and then where the Verizon logo and signal bars are, 'No Service' is displayed.  If I power down and restart the phone, it does 'Searching' a bit before finally showing he bars and VZN logo.  Sometimes it will maintain that for an hour or so before another SIM Failure message, sometimes, I immediately get the message and have to restart my phone over again.
    I didn't think these VZN iPhones had SIM cards, I thought we were CDMA or something like that.  I've had the phone since February so I don't know if this is a device issue or a software issue and I'm trying to figure out if I should try to return it before my 1 year warranty thing is gone.
    I'm on 6.0.1 (10A523) version of iOS so I believe I'm current as far as updates to the phone go.
    Any help/information/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

        It sounds like both of you have tried some great steps to research what's going on with the SIM errors on your iPhone 4s devices. The Version 6.0.1 (10A523) is the most recent software from Apple. And although you don't use the SIM on the Verizon Wireless CDMA technology here in the United States, the iPhone 4s come with the awesome capability to use a SIM card for global GSM services too. Which is why you're seeing messages about a SIM. You can check out http://bit.ly/zXnl81 to see where the SIM is on your phone and how to remove/reinsert it to try to refresh it's connection to the phone.
    There's also a wonderful support article from Apple at http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4148 to help with every step you may need to take to resolve random SIM errors on the 4s. Many times just removing and reinserting the SIM will do the trick, but Apple also includes steps on how to restore your phone to ensure the error messages stop.

    My iPhone 4 with Bell mobility was working just fine. I put it down and when I came back an alert saying 'SIM failure' appears and then instead if my carrier in the corner, it says 'invalid SIM'. Should I take my phone to Bell to get my SIM replaced or go to apple? And is this a hardware problem?

    Try removing and re-inserting the SIM. If that doesn't fix it, get a replacement SIM from Bell.
