Well, according to this support document http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937 all of the wireless carriers in Australia offer unlock services. You would need to contact the carrier the phone is locked to for an unlock request. Like I said earlier, only the carrier can authorize the unlock.
Also, you are not addressing Apple here, we are users just like you that try to help other users. Besides, Apple cannot solve it since the carrier is the only one that can authorize the unlock.

  • Does sim-free iphone lock to the network?

    HI all,
I've been asking different question here recently connected to iphones and now I have one more question. Does sim-free iphone lock to the carrier of the first sim used in it? I've been using mine for a while and now i'd like to change mobile carrier. So, aren't there going to be any problems with it? Thanks in advance.

Apple does not use the term "SIM free" in any of their marketing materials.  If you bought the phone at Carphone Warehouse in the UK, it will lock to the first UK carrier used to activate it. It can not be activated on a foreign network unless unlocked by the UK carrier used to activate it. Other than that, so far as I'm aware, phones are "locked" or "unlocked". I don't know of anywhere else where things are done like they are at carphone warehouse in the UK.

  • How to distinguish 100% 4S sim free (never locked) from a blocked?

I can not buy iphone 4s in the official store, so I'll have to buy a phone, which was brought from another country. I'm afraid to buy a phone that is locked to the operator and it will not work after some time.
If I insert in new iphone 4S my sim card and it will activate it and will catch the network, does that mean that it is not blocked in the future, such as update version IOS?
(there are reports about the phones 4S, tied to the operators, but mistakenly working with all sim cards. there it is mentioned that in the future, these phones will be blocked)
    PS:
I apologize for the error - translated from the tips online translator

Well, if you can't purchase an iPhone from an official source that sells officially unlocked iPhones, you take your chances. Many who go this route end up with hacked iPhones & nothing but grief. Good luck, because there is no way to distinguish between a hacked iPhone & one from an official source just by looking at it.

  • Hello! The question is this. In London, took the Iphone 5 as sim free, flew to Moscow put Simcoe, and he writes me that is locked to the operator O2. Can anyone encountered this problem? What to do? How to remove the Unlock?

Look at your receipt. Does it say unlocked? It is possible to purchase both locked "sim free" and unlocked iPhones from Apple.
ONLY the carrier an iPhone is locked to can legitimately unlock it.
IF your receipt says that it was supposed to be unlocked, and it is not, call AppleCare. They should be able to straighten it out.

  • Is my Iphone 5 never lock(SIM free)? How can I check?

    Hello
I am from Russia and I just bought it in BestBuy. I do the activation via iTunes. But now I start to recive a messages saying "iphone is not Activated contact your  carrier at 18009220204..." what does it mean?
In the store I was told that it is a never lock(Sim free) phone. But a Verizon sim card was inside.
So the questions is will it work it Russia?
    Thanks

At Russia I have an GSM carrier. Will it work with GSM?
It should, yes, but again, you would get no warranty or service from Apple in Russia for a US-sold iPhone
Or best solution to give it back to BestBuy and get another one directli from AppleStore?
I would strongly recommend that you return it to Best Buy and purchase from Apple or an authorized iPhone reseller in Russia. With Apple now having an online store of their own in Russia, that may be your best option.
    Regards.

  • I have iPhone 3GS, no sim-free, and it locked (tried to update to 6.0). How can I unlock it?

I have iPhone 3GS, no sim-free, and it locked (tried to update to virsion 6.0). How can I unlock it?

What do you mean how can you unlock it? If it was truly "sim-free" it would not have locked when you updated.
ONLY the carreir the phone is locked to can authorize unlocking it. Contact them if you haven't managed to brick it entirely now.

I want to put another sim?

What part of "AT&T does not unlock iphones for anyone for any reason" do you not understand? Only AT&T can unlock your iphone & the fact is they don't unlock iphones.

  • Locking sim-free iPhone with the first sim

I'm going to get a sim-free iPhone, but I've been told that iphone would be locked to the first sim that is inserted. The problem is that I regularly commute between London and Berlin, and need to change my sim once a week or 10-day. I have a T-mobile contract in the UK, and O2 contract in Germany.

As noted by Ingo2711 above, if purchased as officially unlocked, it will remain unlocked. The Apple store is the only place to do this. Be certain it is "Unlocked" as opposed to just "Sim free"

  • N900 Operator lock on Sim free phone???

    Hi.
When you go into settings, at the very top bar there's a settings drop down button.  I have 3 options there:
    Restore original settings
    Clear device
Enter code to remove operator lock
Why would a sim free phone bought from a nokia retail outlet store have an operator lock?
I received a txt message from vodafone back in june that said to restart the phone to receive updated vodafone sime menu service.  I dont know if it worked because i'm not sure where the sim menu is on the n900 but i'm curious if this is what has introduced the menu options above.
I should mention at this point that when i was in the US earlier this year, i was able to stop my phone looking for a gsm signal and concentrate on wifi only.  Now i can't seem to find an option to turn of gsm.  When selecting the network from the phone menu, i only get Dual, 3G and GSM.  i don't get the wifi option anymore, hence me asking if this operator lock has interfered with it
Has anyone else got this and if it wasn't vodaphone, what is this operator lock?
    Thanks in advance
    Bagz Rules

here's some stuff you can try without installing extra bits:
    1) stop it using 3G/2G data, wlan only:
settings -> internet -> Connect automatically -> WLAN
It won't stop you manually connecting to 3g data (if you specifically select a 3G connection from the "internet connection" item on the desktop menu), but it won't do it by itself
    2) Stop any/all GSM/3G activity
Easiest option, take the sim out! Instant tablet mode no GSM for data or calls!
Another trick is possible if your phone asks you for a SIN PIN number when you turn it on. There's skip button. If you press that rather than entering your PIN, the phone functionality is disabled If you try and make a call, it will ask you for your PIN again)
The Tablet mode switcher app is pretty neat, though

  • HT1766 I bought a sim free phone from phones 4u and had a virgin SIM card put it in to phone now it's locked to Virgin. I want to cancel and change networks but the will not give me an unlock code can you help

I bought a sim free phone from phones 4u and had a virgin SIM card put it in to phone now it's locked to Virgin. I want to cancel and change networks but they
will not give me an unlock code can you help, as Virgin will not help me

You did not buy an unlocked iPhone. Only Apple themselves sell unlocked iPhones in most countries. Your iPhone locked to the first carrier used. Only Virgin could authorize unlocking of your iPhone, and if they will not, there's nothing you can do. Sell the iPhone to someone who can use it with Virgin and buy a truly unlocked iPhone from Apple.
    Regards.

  • HT4994 MY IPHONE IS NOT A SIM FREE HOW CAN I USE IT IN ANOTHER COUNTRY?

MY IPHONE IS NOT A SIM FREE HOW CAN I USE IT IN ANOTHER COUNTRY?

Apple can do nothing. As Tim said, only the carrier to whom the iPhone is locked can authorize unlocking. You must contact that carrier.

  • Sim free Z10 purchase from UK to be used in Pakistan

Hello I am from Pakistan and am currently in UK. I want to buy a Z10 from here which i will use back home. Some questions please. 1. Can i use the sim free phone with my mobile operator in pakistan, without a hassle. Last thing i want is I buy the phone, and it doesnt work back home 2. Carphone warehouse is providing a 2 year warranty. Is this an international warranty? There is no blackberry shop in Pakistan but there are in Dubai. If required, will the Dubai shops recognize this warranty? 3. A bit on the technical aspect... With the OS 10.2, has the Z10 able to bury most, if not all of the criticisms that it received when it first launched last year? Thank you in advance for your help. Regards
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Blackberry Z10 are global ready handsets, u can use it easily. Firsy of all go to setting and then tap to security option again tap in sim card. See if device network is not locked to spcific carrier thhen it must be unlocked. And unlocked handsets are ready to use anywhere including pakistan. But the warranty remains. Only in UK.
