SIM not supported

IPhone 4S, 5.0.1. Some Time ago it lost the mobile network of the local operator in Rusia. And it can not  I can't solve it with rebooting or software downgrade. iPhone can find a mobile network but can not connect to it. SIM not supported. The Phone is SIM free.

The Phone is SIM free.
WHat does that mean? What model of iPhone 4S? Where did you get it? Is this a gray market phone smuggled from another country?

  • IPhone 5 unlocked for months, after firmware restore "SIM not supported error"

I purchased a 16GB iPhone 5 a month after initial release from an authorized retialer in Austria, it was factory unlocked (at least I thought so) and has been working wonderful since purchase. I have used it in multiple countries and used many different SIMs. I tried doing a full restore on 6.1.4 and now I receive the "SIM not supported" errror. I tried many SIMs that have previously worked, but no luck. I did a search and according to IMEI.info, it is locked to the Austrian A1 carrier. It seems it went from being unlocked to locked during the restore and now it is pretty much bricked, as I can't get past the activation screen. Help please?

There should be no original carrier as it was factory unlocked. If IMEI.info says its locked to A1, would that certainly be correct? The phone was never even used with them.

Buying a used iPhone from unofficial place.
1.) Your iPhone maybe locked to a certain carrier.
2.) The sim may not be compatible.
    3.) Maybe it was jailbroken.
Find out from the seller the 3 points I've mentioned.

Unfortunately, you cannot downgrade to the old iOS.

  • What does it mean by sim not supported?

what does it mean when it says my sim is not supported? and how do i solve this?

It means that your iphone can only be used with a sim card provided by the carrier your phone is locked to. Only way to unlock your phone and be able to use any sim you like, is to contact the carrier your phone is locked to, and ask them if they can unlock the phone for you. They usually do this for free if your contract with them has expired. Hope I helped

  • SIM not supported on UNLOCKED iPhone 4S

I bought my iphone 4S just under a year ago UNLOCKED. Since then, I have been using it on O2 in the UK and of course have accepted any software updates. The phone is NOT jailbroken.
My O2 contract came to its renewal and I decided to change carriers to 3. Today I have received my new micro SIM, inserted it and it said "Activation required", went through the steps but it says the SIM is not supported! It almost looks like Apple or O2 have locked my unlocked phone to O2. How can than that happen?
    Any ideas anyone?
    Regards,
    Gordon

    Phil,
Apple write the software and obviously make the phone lock to the first provider it connects with. In my eyes, that software is not the fault of Carphone Warehouse. Any other manufacturer's phone purchased from Carphone Warehouse without a SIM is FULLY UNLOCKED, but Apple being Apple have to be different.
I got really annoyed the first iPhone I purchased when I walked out of the Apple shop and could not even use the phone until I returned home because it insisted that I connect to iTunes before it would activate the SIM. Again a stupid unnecessary process from Apple. Does that happen with a Motorola? a Samsung?, a Nokia? etc. Of course not! Apple just want to be in complete control of you.
I called O2 and they unlocked the phone, but IMHO it is Apple who write the software for these phones, no one else does it. Whether you agree or not is up to you. I am just a consumer trying to use the product, which is frustrating!

  • Why having problems with the sim, not supported carrier?

My provider Orange UK has allowed me to unlock my iphone and has send to me all the steps. WHen trying to unlock my iphone, it gives me this message error
" The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iphone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iphone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iphone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information"
I bought a non Orange 3G sim card as they mentioned and there is this message. Anyone can help me to unlock my iphone?
    THanks!

Have you followed all the steps for unlocking your iPhone, as listed here?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5014
If so, did you get the "your iPhone has now been unlocked" message after you restored the iPhone?

  • Sim not supported, but was sent micro sim thats compatable with iphone ..now what?

Have iphone 4 with no sim card. so contacted vodafone whom i have a contract with and arranged to transfer my existing mob num to a micro sim card to use in apple iphone4 . Once received connected to itunes .. picked up the iphone but said iphone was in recovery mode and click on restore. I have done that loads of times now and everytime it ends saying your sim is not compatable. Rang Vodafone as was so cross as the sim also wouldn't work in my old phone either ! even when clicked into the normal sim sized card.
Anyway , that was yesterday and was told don't worry your micro sim isn't activated correctly yet ..remove sim .. wait 24hours ,put sim back in and it will work . well it hasn't made the slightest  bit of difference except when i put the microsim back in old phone .. it now works on that!
can anyone tell me have i done anything wrong? ... do i need to download any software first ?  Would it make any difference if itunes were already installed on home pc to under my partners name? .. I have tried installing itunes to link to just me but thats just reverting back to itunes already installed !
if i took to a mob shop .. could they help ?  hope someone can give me some answers

Where did you get the phone. An "unsupported SIM" message indicates the phone is locked to a carrier other than the one you are trying to use. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it. DO NOT take it to a mobile phone shop that tell you they can unlock it. They can not legitimately do so. All they can do is hack/jailbreak the phone. This will void any warranty as well as forteit your right to support from Apple or on these forums. It can also cause stability and security problems and you will NOT be able to update the OS without re-locking it.

  • SIM not supported? Help!

I have just moved from the UK to South Africa taking two iPhone 4's with me. I restored one of my iPhone's to factory setting because I wanted to give it to my Wife. I took out the UK SIM's and put in South African Pre-Paid SIM's from Vodacom into both phones. One iPhone works fine however, for the iPhone which I had restored to factory settings, once I unlocked the SIM and connected to iTunes I got this message:
THE SIM CARD INSERTED IN THIS IPHONE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE SUPPORTED
What do I do about this?

Yes it will be locked to O2
But at this time they are not unlocking the iPhone 4.
I know I regularly put in the unlock form in and get a polite rejection ............there is no indication
when they will include the iP4

  • Error Message " SIM not supported by Carrier "

HI I am using the unlocked IPhone 4S from soft bank Japan with Straight talk SIM for 1year recently I was in INDIA and had to use another SIM now when I insert the SIM " I am getting the message " SIM doesn't support your carrier insert a SIMsupported by your carrier"any sug?

Your phone is not unlocked, and will work only with Softbank and their SIM card.  Softbank does not unlock iPhones for anyone. If it was "unlocked", it was done by hacking methods, which are removed whenever the phone is updated or restored.

  • HT201407 sim not supported

Hi. I have a 4s. It is a water damaged one which I acquired from the insurance company. When I go through start up, it tells me that my sim is from a carrier that is unsupported. Any ideas??

Probably because it is carrier locked, or the damage affected the internals.

  • The sim card inserted is not supported

my phone is factory unlocked i put a different network sim in and its telling me sim not supported activation required

There is no such thing as "factory unlocked". There are 2 legitimate ways to get an unlocked iPhone: Purchase it directly from Apple paying full price, and the receipt clearly says "unlocked". Or have the carrier it was originally locked to unlock it, then Restore it with iTunes. At the end of the Restore you should get a message saying it is unlocked.
If it was unlocked any other way it is not truly unlocked; it is hacked to work on other networks.
If it says "activation required" you need to connect it to iTunes on a computer. If it doesn't say Activated you then need to click the Restore iPhone button.

I need help, I use my phone for everything enclusive to work. I appreciate if you can help. I'm from Brazil. My name and giullia.

Did you purchase this device from Apple or an authorized reseller? It sounds as if you had a device that was jailbroken/hacked to operate on your carrier. Upon updating the iOS, it is now locked back to the original carrier the device was locked to.
Only the carrier the device is locked to can authorize an unlock. You will need to make contact with that carrier and see if they provide unlocking services, and if they do, if you qualify for an unlock. Otherwise, you are out of luck. One that carrier can take care of the unlocking.

Verizon does not unlock the iPhone 4S for use on U.S. GSM carriers, only for foreign roaming.
