Sim Pin Bug?

Hi,
I'm not sure but I may have found a bug in the new iOS using iPhone 5. I've done a search for the scenario which I'll explain. But I can't seem to see anyone replicating this.
I have a pin set for both the unlocking of the phone and for the sim also. On reboot of the phone it asks for these and a call can't be made until the sim is unlocked. Standard behaviour. On the iPhone 4 I used to have, the phone would ask for these directly after each other. However with the iPhone 5 the sim pin is asked after the phone has been unlocked for a few seconds.
I've found if you reset the phone (hold the home button and the power button until the apple appears and the phone reboots) put in the unlock code and then quickly before the phone asks for the sim pin touch an app or go into settings, the phone doesn't ask for the sim pin and you can make calls. The setting still shows that sim pin is active and this doesn't work if you reboot with the power button then slide to off and repower on the phone.
I was just wondering if anyone is able to replicate this. Or if this is the normal behaviour. It seems pointless to have a sim pin if you can bypass it like this.

  • How do I change my iPad mini's SIM PIN when I cannot remember what the original PIN was?

I went to enter a new PIN so I could lock my iPad's SIM card and was asked to enter a number. At some point, I must have entered a number already, because I got a message that I had entered the wrong one.  I can't seem to choose the "change PIN" option, probably because I can't recall the original one. How to I change the SIM PIN? What happens if I use up all my chances at entering the PIN and don't hit on the correct one?

    Thank you for the reply.
I have one chance left to enter a number and then I will be locked out of
4G service.  So, I have not tried 1111. What will that number do?
When I log into MyVerizon, it does not offer "view all" as an option under
My Device. Instead, under My Device it only offers the following:
    My Device
    Apple
iPad mini with Retina display 32GB Space Gray
    Other Options:
    Accessories
    Change Your Prepaid Device
    Device Support
    FAQ
    My Plan
    300MB for $5 Daily Plan
    View Plan Details
    Other Options:
    Add Data or Change Plan
    Disconnection of Service
    View Plan Options
There is no place I can find that provides with a PIN or PUK. I have tried
clicking on all the options listed above.

  • HT204023 What is 'sim pin' under Cellular data on my iPad mini?  How do I use that and change cards from one country to another?

I have a new ipad mini with retina display, and cellular capability.
I've learned how to set up an account and use it in the US.  I'm now traveling internationally and need to learn about changing the sim card.
My first question is about the notation under 'settings', Cellular Data, SIM PIN.  Under SIM PIN, there is an option of turning on 'sim pin' and then entering a PIN to lock the SIM.
What does SIM PIN mean in the first place?
Where does the PIN number come from?
    Thankx.
    SusanFrances

A SIM PIN, also referred to sometimes as a PUK Code is like a PIN number for your SIM card (just like your ATM Card).  Since your SIM card has your cellular account on it and can be typically removed from one device and put into another, you can lock the SIM Card with a SIM PIN if you choose.  If you activate the SIM PIN feature and forget your SIM PIN when you try to re-activate your device or a new device in the future using the same SIM Card, you may have to contact you carrier to get a new SIM Card. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1316
As far as changing the SIM Cards out because you want to use a new carrier, you can remove the SIM card fomr the old carrier and put in the SIM  card form the new carrier. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5163
I hope this helps clear things up.

  • HT201529 I bought my iPhone from Verizon and having their service.  Does my iphone has a default SIM PIN?

I bought my iPhone from Verizon and having their service.  Does my iphone has a default SIM PIN?

The 4G LTE SIM card in your device contains information about your plan, device and more. You can set a SIM PIN so others won’t be able to access that information if your SIM card is removed from your device.
If you remove your SIM card and insert it another device (e.g., when you upgrade to a new device), you’ll be asked for the SIM card PIN. You can find your SIM card PIN in My Verizon if you’ve forgotten it. Or, if you’ve entered your SIM card PIN unsuccessfully 3 times, you’ll need the PIN Unblocking Key (PUK) to unlock your SIM card again. After using the PUK, you’ll need to create a new PIN for your SIM card if you want to secure it again.
To locate the SIM PIN / PUK numbers for your 4G LTE SIM card:
Navigate to the Overview page in My Verizon.
Click My PIN and Unblocking Key (PUK) under About My Device.
Your default PIN and PUK will be displayed in a pop-up window.
Click Close when you’re finished to return to the My Verizon Overview page.
You’ve successfully located your SIM PIN and PUK.

  • Lumia 720 powers off, requires SIM pin after Amber

Hi. I notice that my 720 would randomly power off after the Amber update. It would happen when phone is not in use, I would turn it on but would have to enter the SIM pin for it to function. 3rd time its happened today, within 6 hours.

  • How do I change my SIM pin?

I was robbed yesterday and my GalaxyIII was taken. Unfortunately I wasn't able to install any anti-theft apps, like Lookout. I already tried using Plan B, but the thief just uninstalled the app and turned the phone off. I don't want this person to remove my SIM card and insert their own, and be able to use a brand new phone that they didn't pay for! So I'm asking, how do I change or create my SIM PIN to keep my phone from being utilized by an unauthorized source? I'm very upset, I've only had the phone for 4 days. Someone please advice.

        Hello amandasimms,
I am extremely happy that you're safe and I completely understand the importance of making sure your phone is not activated.
As ritsbits1212 and silver6056 stated changing your sim pin will not be effective in preventing another to use the sim card or phone and the best action to take would be to notify us right away.
We can suspend the sim card and services for you. We will also be able to add the phone to a negative list for you. This will ensure that no one is able to activate your Samsung Galaxy SIII on their account.
Please contact us right away and let us know if you need anything further.
    Thank you,

  • Lumia 800 Telekom: SIM-PIN ist _not_ requested whe...

    Hi,
I have a serious problem with my Lumia 800, Telekom/T-Mobile Germany Branding. When I turn the device on, there is no prompt to enter my SIM-PIN. The consequence: I am not able to connect to my mobile phone provider unless I pretend to do a real call, then the phone requests my pin. However I want to be available for calls right from the start!
Has anyone experienced this problem, too? Any workarounds?
    Thanks,
    saardunu

Are you using a new micro SIM card, or a standard size SIM card that has been cut down to a micro SIM size by the operator/carrier?
I just tried activating SIM PIN request on a Lumia 800, using a brand new micro SIM and this worked as is should when the phone was started.
so if your SIM card used to be a standard size SIM, I would suggest you contact the operator/carrier and ask them to send you a new micro SIM. This could be the cause of the problem

  • IPhone 3G no longer asks for SIM pin since 2.2

Since I updated to 2.2 my iPhone no longer asks for my SIM pin after a restart.
If I reset the pin it works as it should for a while but if I reset the iPhone the problem reoccurs.
I did a restore but the problem persists. Any ideas?

I came on here because this morning I just noticed the same thing:
    iPhone 3G 16GB
    iPhone OS 2.2
I have the SIM preference set to a custom password (not the default) which should be requested on restart/reboot.
If I normally shut down the iPhone 3G (by holding the lock button and swipe) and restart, I have to enter the SIM unlock code.
However if I force a reboot (reset) by holding the home and lock buttons, upon startup, either immediately, or later, then the SIM opens unlocked, and no code is requested.
I also have an iPhone 1G 8GB with iPhone OS 2.2 and this does not happen on that phone. The SIM passcode is always requested and needed regardless of restart/reboot/reset method.

  • Sometimes no SIM PIN needed

Since updating to 2.2, my Gen 1 iPhone has an intermittent problem. After it has been off for any length of time, the next powerup will sometimes (but not always) skip asking for the SIM PIN.
The passcode is working properly every time, but the next step, entering the SIM unlock PIN, is skipped once in a while, somewhat compromising the security of the phone. In other words, without entering the PIN, the phone is fully functional, able to call, access EDGE data, etc.
I have tried toggling the SIM PIN feature off/on and cold rebooting, but the intermittent problem always comes back, eventually.
Has anyone seen this or dealt with it?
    -dan

Thanks. Here is how it is behaving:
    • first thing in the morning, turn it on from a "cold" start: sometimes it asks for a SIM PIN; sometimes it doesn't.
    • power it off during the day and power it back on again: sometimes it asks for a SIM PIN; sometimes it doesn't.
    • do a full reboot (hold Home and Power until Apple logo appears): sometimes it asks for a SIM PIN; sometimes it doesn't.
Prior to firmware 2.2 it always asked for a SIM PIN under these circumstances.
    • toggle Airplane mode off/on: does not ask for a SIM PIN (as long as one has already been entered).

  • How to enter SIM PIN on a wiped IPad when you know the PIN?

My daughter somehow changed her PIN on her IPad this morning but has no idea what it is!  I tried to restore to factory settings, but it would not let me do this unless I turned off find my IPhone which I could not do because we do not know the password. I went to find my IPhone and tried to delete the device, but it would not do this since it was online.  I decided to wipe the IPad so I could then restore it.  That worked, but now the SIM is locked! I know the password to the SIM, but it just tells me SIM PIN locked please enter your PIN to unlock the SIM card.  My problem is that the box does not show up to enter PIN. There is nowhere for me to enter it! I tried logging onto itunes to do it there, but tells me the same thing with no place to enter PIN.  I am panicking because one of her Santa gifts for tomorrow is a digital makepver that you use with the IPad!!! Please help!

I use two ways - not very sophisticated
On my pop account, I set the preferences to delete mail on server immediately after download
On BlackBerry, I delete the mail account when I am near the computer and re-enter when I want mail

  • SIM PIN code 1020 WP8.1 re-enter

    Hello,
Ever since I've installed the latest update of WP8.1 (8.10.12397.895) Developers Preview on my Lumia 1020 the phone looses its connection with the GSM network (4G) and asks me to re-enter the SIM PIN code serveral times a day. I re-enter the code as soon as I discover this, but in the mean time the phone is not on the GSM network so I won't receive calls. As soon as the phone drops the network connection it briefly displays the Windows logo as if the phone was rebooted.
I hope this will be corrected in an next release, or beter in the final release that will come together with the Cyan update.
    L8r, Henk

I think my problem is solved. My attention was drawn to an article on the user forum of my provider. Someone with an Android phone was experiencing fairly similar problems.
When my provider started with 4G a year ago they used a specialised Access Point (AP) for 4G as their default AP was not suitable for 4G at that time. During one of the many updates since, the special AP disappeared from my 1020, but since my wife’s 920 did not have the update yet I recreated the 4G AP and copied the settings from her phone. Now it seems I’d better not done that. The guy with the Android phone found out that in the meantime my provider started supporting 4G in their default AP. And that the specialised 4G AP was nog longer supported and thus should not have been used anymore. The fact that the AP disappeared during an update should have warned me.
Anyway, a couple of days ago I selected the default AP and have not had any SIM PIN code issues since. Whereas with the old 4G AP I had to re-enter the code within 2 hours at max as soon as I came at work and my phone connected to my works Wi-Fi (under control of an MDM).

  • Default SIM PIN on iPhone???

    Howdy all,
Does anyone know what the default SIM PIN is on the iPhone? In the SETTINGS menu under PHONE:SIM PIN, I am trying to turn the SIM PIN on, yet it keeps asking me for a password. It says I have 1 attempt left, so I don't want to enter a code until I am sure I have the right one. I've tried calling Apple and they transfer me to AT&T... and then AT&T transfers me back to Apple... and repeat.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks All.

True, but the SIM is an AT&T controlled component, not Apple. If you call AT&T CS about the default PIN, they currently don't know since it's not in the Apple manual. I even raised this up to a director level there. If you call Apple, they tell you call AT&T. No one wants this hot potato...
The default PIN needs to be put into the User Manual. It's inexcusable to leave it out since inserting the wrong PIN 3 times results in the SIM being blocked and a non-functioning phone until the PUK has been entered or the SIM replaced by AT&T.
