Similar probs to every1 else w/ iTurd 7.0, xcuse my sarcasm.

Hey guess what guys? iTunes 7 wont install, can you believe that? I must be the only person in the world with this problem, cuz there is no one else on this board talking about this. Hmmmm. I'll outline my extremely unique problem here but tomorrow I'll just call the help line like every other idiot who got an ipod for xmas. I got mine three weeks before xmas but was too busy to bother with it til now and BOY am I glad, cuz now I can wait in line behind everyone else.
got an ipod about a month ago, been dealing with this since. iTunes would not install because it says Quicktime will not install. tried gazillions of things including uninstalling QT and trying again, reinstalling QT and trying again. Yes I did the registry cleaning, windows installer cleaning, deleting all files to do with QT and iT.
So then I went on a search of older versions of iTunes that did not come bundled with QT, thinking that if I could just get iTunes on my computer I could then update it and I'd be good. So I found iTunes5.0 and it installed. GREAT, huh?! I updated QT first to 7.0, which went off without a hitch (i never seem to have trouble with QT as a stand alone install). I went to update iTunes and nothing happens. So I download it again and try to install it over the 5.0. Same original error message from what now feels like a milennia ago. So I give up and say, hey, I'll just use 5.0, it seems fine.
Hook up my brand spankin new video ipod and computer says "your ipod requires iTunes 7.0". Try updating several more times. Rebooting. Updating. blardy blar blah blah. Same probs as everyone else here it seems.

The EXACT same thing happened to me. I have a 20G iPod w/ clickwheel. Tried all the 5 r's by myself, reinstalling itunes and then took it into the genius bar. they tried eevrything that i had--and luckily saw the iPod stall after about 500 songs. After nearly 2 hours and no solutions i had to leave. It was suggested that I try downgrading to the old iTunes version, which I did and now my iPod is COMPLETELY DEAD. the apple just keeps on turning on and off, can't restore, can't reset.
What do I do? I am so upset--my ipod is older, off of warranty, but completely fine before I downloaded iTunes 7. I want to cry I am so frustrated and upset--will apple do anything about this? they killed my ipod w/ iTunes 7, the genius bar people haven't been able to do anything. Somehow it doesn't seem right for me to now have to get a new iPod.
Any suggestions? Ways to get through to Apple w/out having to pay to talk to someone? Go back to the genius bar again? arggghhh.......

      My iTunes is not able to sync the iPhone 4. I'm using windows 7 32bit. At the first step it gets stuck refelcting backing up the phone then nothing happens for ages. I'm using the latest iTUnes version, does anyone have similar prob??? There are no error codes which appear and the iTUNES just gets hanged, is there a solution?

    Remove the song in question from the sync list and see if the rectifies the problem.
    If it does, then iTunes believes the song no longer exists on your drive and that will need to be corrected.

  • Got prob with if else

    Hi, i'm a newbie to java and while i'm studying it, i got one problem with the code. Can you help me please because i don't know how to interpret correctly. I just know that when i excute and run it, then enter any number larger than 200, it still gimme the same result which is "you are ok". Here is the code:
    public class IQ
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception
    int iq;
    System.out.println("Enter your IQ number: ");
    iq = (int)System.in.read();
    if (iq > 200)
    System.out.println("Abnormal");
    else
    System.out.println("you are ok");
    }

    Looks like a troll (there is no problem with if/else).
    But if it's not a troll (and for the benefit of other n00bs).
    The OP had int iq = (int)System.in.read();We look up the System class and find it containspublic static final java.io.Inputstream in;so we look up the InputStream class and see that int read() reads a single byte and returns it (or -1 for EOF). [Also int read(byte[]) returns bytes in the array passed.]
    Maybe it's worth noting that the ascii values for '0' thru '9' is 48 thru 57.
    If the user attempts to enter <1><0><7><Enter> then read() returns the ascii value for '1' which is 49 and the rest of the user input is discarded.
    Now to the post made by PhHein.
    BufferedReader keyboard = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
    int iq = Integer.parseInt(keyboard.readLine());We look up the InputStreamReader class and find that it converts byte[] to char[] (not strictly true, but that explanation will have to suffice in this context).
    We look up the BufferedReader class and find that readLine() very handily reads until it encounters a line terminator (user pressed enter), and returns the input as a String.
    We look up the Integer class and find that parseInt() gets the numeric value of a number stored in a String.
    If the user enters <1><0><7><Enter> then readLine() returns a String containing "107" and parseInt() returns 107. Neat, eh.

  • Intel iMac won't start up after update of OS... anyone w/similar prob?

    Help! I recently did installs through "software update" and now my iMac won't go beyond the flat blue screen. To be more specific, it starts up, takes a long time on the grey screen with the rotating pinned circle and apple logo, then stays on the flat blue screen forever. I can move the mouse but nothing else happens.
    I'm trying to remember what the software update installed... I think it was the most recent security update, iDVD, iMovie, iPhoto and Quicktime update.
    I'd appreciate any advice or experiences you can offer. Thanks in advance.

    Hi, hajime7. Welcome to the Discussions.
    1. As a general check, run the procedure specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.
    2. An errant Startup or Login Item maybe the cause. My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem.
    FYI: Before installing software updates, you may wish to consider the advice in my "Installing Software Updates" FAQ. Taking the steps therein before installing an update often helps avert problems.

  • K7N2 and Radeon 9800 Pro Prob..

    I work at a computer store in Killeen texas and am having an issue with the K7n2 Mobo. When we use a Radeon 9800 pro from ATI, we do not get video on every boot. The system will go itno windows but will not show a post screen or windows. This only happend with version 3.4 of the bios. We downgraded to version 3.3 And the card worked perfect. Their is a new 3.5 Bios. Was wondering if I should upgrade to this bios or Leave it at 3.3. By the way....We tried three other K7n2 boards and two different Raddy9800s. We also had a similar prob with the All in wonder 8500. And again version 3.3 of the bios worked fine. Any Ideas....

    leave it at 3.3 as its not changed
    but its not all boards and all ati its wierd

  • Prob with JProgressBar and JButton

    Hi, hopefully someone can help me. I have an applet that does some stuff and when it starts the work, it creates a new JFrame with 2 progress bars (JProgressBar), an ok Jbutton and a cancel JButton. The progress bars update properly, thats not an issue, my problem is that when you click either of the buttons, they don't create an actionEvent until the work is completed, which is ok for the OK button but makes the cancel button pretty useless. I have tried suggested work arounds using SwingWorker and the event dispatching thread for similar probs other people have posted on here but with no success. I don't really know a lot about threads which doesn't really help!! Is it likely to be a thread problem or something to do with event queue which has also been suggested to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    public class ProgressDialog extends JDialog implements Runnable
    private JProgressBar progressBar, totalBar;
    private JButton ok, cancel;
    public ProgressDialog()
    setTitle(dialogTitle);
    setBounds(350,300,300,120);
    //setSize(300,100);
    Container contentPane = getContentPane();
    FlowLayout flow = new FlowLayout();
    contentPane.setLayout(flow);
    JLabel label1 = new JLabel(" Upload progress: ");
    contentPane.add(label1);
    progressBar = new JProgressBar(0,100);
    progressBar.setValue(0);
    progressBar.setStringPainted(true);
    contentPane.add(progressBar);
    JLabel label2 = new JLabel(" Total progress: ");
    contentPane.add(label2);
    totalBar = new JProgressBar();
    totalBar.setValue(0);
    totalBar.setStringPainted(true);
    contentPane.add(totalBar);
    ok = new JButton("OK");
    ok.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
    public void actionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
    jButton1ActionPerformed(evt);
    contentPane.add(ok);
    cancel = new JButton("Cancel");
    cancel.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
    public void actionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
    jButton2ActionPerformed(evt);
    contentPane.add(cancel);
    setVisible(true);
    setResizable(false);
    Thats near enough the whole class now. Thanks

  • Is twinkle app draining my battery - what else could it be

    I have noticed that in the last week my battery does not last a day -after being fully charge in the morning it normally runs out in the early evening when it used to last until the next morning.
    The only difference i can think of is that i now use Twinkle - but i am not on it that often during the day. I only check in once or twice and then only for 5 - 10 mins.
    Does anyone else have this issue with twinkle or a similar app. What else could it be a none of my other settings have changed re push, wifi, brightness
    I do try to make sure i hold my home button down when coming out of most apps until screen shuts down as it has been suggested this makes sure app is fully off.
    Any suggestions or similar findings?

    then why is my phone draining the battery like never before. It was fully charged 2 1/2 hours ago and now the battery charger looks have way gone! Am hardly using it today to see what happens to battery. Tomorrow may delete twinkle app and see what happens then!
    Very strange- any more ideas from anyone about why my battery is suddenly not lasting as long when i have made no changes to setting

  • Probs registering ipod touch.....Serial # not recognized??

    Anyone having similar probs?? Have tried serial# all different ways and nothing.....Thanks

    I can't register my iPod one Apple's site either. mine was a replacement product btw and I got a new serial number, FWIW. When trying to register on iTunes, it tells me to enter my Apple ID, but when I press continue, it doesn't do anything -- it just stays on the login page.

  • Yet another K7N2 DELTA-L prob

    *sighs*
    bought this board about 7 months ago, never had any probs... then out of the blue or blue screen of death i should say, my comp keeps resettings itself when playing cpu and graphic card intensive programs (battlefield 1942 being the best example)
    I tested and retested the ram, memtest86 reported it as passing all tests over a 4 hour period.
    ok so i tried changeing the ratio of the ram to 1.1 same result still crashes.
      tried relaxing ram timings.... SAME PROB
    tried the ram in every different slot same prob..... its A-DATA 512mb pc3200
    what i find so odd is it has been functional for so long, so i came to the conclusin its NOT the ram...
    mmkay so how about conflicting drivers? seemed reasonable to me.
    tried messing with drivers, all of a sudden i seemed to have cured the problem...
    then BHAM its back.... FFS
    ive read that people with msi k7n2`s had been suffering similar probs so i thought to myself ok...
    perhaps its the nforce drivers conflicting with something.
    sometimes on the bsod i get a nv4_something or other driver error i dont remember bt i know it was a geforceFX friver file, so i figure perhaps its my geforcefx drivers, so i tried the drivers that came with my MSI geforce fx 5600 (256mb) still... same prob....
    then i thought.... O.k so maybe i should up/lower my ram voltages etc... no luck there either, tried it on the agp card aswell no luck. (did the same with the timings aswell)
    So.... if anyone has any ideas let me know please because im  coming to the end of mt tether i came THIS close to putting my foot through the computer and im deadly serious....
      frustration.

    I forgot that bit after I saw Wonka's post recommending memtest and reading throught he rest...seems I was brainwashed
    Subliminal mind erase technique, I'll have to remember that one
    Well then seems like the PSU might be taking a dump on you...if it decides to let loose it could decide to wipe it's backside with the rest of your hardware....

  • Intervideo WinDVD 8 probs

    Greetings, all.
    Having a major prob with the Intervideo WinDVD8 on my A135 S2326 laptop.
    I experience playback problems with some DVD's.  Either there is no video, no video AND no audio, or playback is interupted (i.e., movie starts, but only plays back a few seconds before cutting out).  I'm getting similar probs with Windows Media Player.  This doesn't happen with ALL DVD's I play, but I have noticed it occurs with the more recent titles.
    Could it be a codec prob?  If so, is there somewhere I can download updated codecs?
    Any, and all assistance will be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanx,
    Nawlins

    Mine goes to the next stage of giving me a dialog box that suggests that it is talking to InterVideo, but nothing more happens. no matter how long I leave the thing running, that window remains and any subsequent launching of the application shows it as being unregistered.
     Has anyone had any success with this?

  • OS install probs

    hiho!
    i have a prob.
    when i want to install Win XP Professional my computer hangs always after the screen where it says "press F6 for RAID / SCSI controllers"
    but when i install win98 my compi works without any problems.
    i don't know what i have to do..(is it the harddisk controller?? - i have changed 5 different controllers, but always the same: compi hangs :( )

    Hi Majo,
    I don't know what you mean when you say "I have changed 5 different controllers" do you mean you've changed the Mobo 5 times or are you using a PCI RAID card with your HD.
    If you are using a PCI RAID card then you must install the drivers when XP asks for you to setup RAID/SCSI.
    I Had similar probs with my K7N420D pro. I narrowed it down to one of two things:
    1. On board Ethernet - XP didn't like the fact that I was plugged into an active cable modem whilst installing (XP).
    2. PCI RAID Controller - XP didn't like this either and I had to remove it whilst installing XP - installed the card after succesful XP install.
    BTW, I have a dual boot system and had no such difficulties with installing Windows ME.
    May or may not help you - just a thought.

  • [SOLVED] apache daemon fails to start on boot, but rc.d restart works?

    I installed apache from the official repos and followed the instructions in the wiki for configuring it. I checked to make sure the http user exists, and I /etc/hosts looks good (to me). Upon boot, the daemon fails to start and I can't load local web pages, but running "rc.d restart httpd" works just fine. Since I'd rather not start it manually every time I boot, is there a way to fix this? Also, httpd is the last daemon in my DAEMONS array.
    /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf:
    # This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2> for detailed information.
    # In particular, see
    # <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
    # for a discussion of each configuration directive.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "/var/log/httpd/foo_log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "/etc/httpd" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "/etc/httpd//var/log/httpd/foo_log".
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
    # ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
    # at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
    # httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
    ServerRoot "/etc/httpd"

    The SIGTERM are from reboots, yes. I'm not absolutely sure that the process isn't running; I just know that I can't access http://localhost immediately upon reboot. I have to restart the httpd daemon, which works fine. How would I be able to tell if it's just hung?
    I checked everything.log, and I don't see anything that leaps off the page to me.

    All I notice is that my system's time is having a few problems, since you'll notice that events occur at 22:00 and change, then 17:00 and change, then back to 22:00 and change afterwards. Could this be the problem? I've had the CMOS batteries peg out on me suddenly in the last few weeks. I would hope this sytem is not also suffering a similar fate. Nothing else was happening on my system except for the standard processes from /etc/rc.conf and other standard ones, since I've just been rebooting, checking the logs, then posting here.

  • Applications not responding apparently after Security Update 2007-009

    Mail, iTunes, Skype, MSN Messenger, MainMenu, Emule, Safari and god know what else aren't responding after Security Update 2007-009.
    Hi,
    I recently purchased a new phone that does not work with macs, so I bought an application from Feisar to make it work. The application isn't freeware, so I think it is very unlikely that it bogused my system. Anyway, I installed the software, but only afterwards noticed it didn't work for my phone model with the USb interface, only through bluetooth, which I don't have. Moreover, and, in my opinion, more importantly, I also downloaded and installed security update 2007-009. After the update, I mandatorily restarted OS X and instantly noticed Mail, iTunes, Safari, Skype and Messenger not working. I click on them on the dock, they bounce (usually once, but it has occured to be more) and nothing happens. I don't get the little arrow below the icon. I see the applications in the applications folder, so they are not missing. I searched and searched on the internet and, apparently it is, to say the least, herculeanly complicated to downgrade from a software update. I tried to repair permissions and it didn't work. I tried the apple hardware test and everything came out perfect. I restarted many times and the same keeps happening.
    So I wasted half my day yesterday trying to fix this, looking into forums and trying to talk to people about it and there it absolutely no answer. Yesterday I installed the programs necessary to sync my phone in my wife's macbook and nothing bad happened. So I'm guessing it isn't about the phone plugins I installed. I've tried to download combo updates but they crash as soon as I try to install them - I even tried to install a 10.4.10 update.
    This is the error message I get:
    Command: Installer
    Path: /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Installer
    Parent: WindowServer [114]

    I put part of in on google to check if there was anybody discussing anything related and someone suggested - bizarrely enough - updating adobe reader. I did it just in case and, of course, it didn't work. I repaired permissions a million times already, I rebooted in safe mode, I scaned the computer with apple jack (which reapetedly said that I had a "fan failure!"), I verified the disk with diskutility - which showed nothing. I tried downloading an anti-virus (ClamXav), but I couldn't open it also, I trashed my prefs, I deleted all internet plugins, but still.... nothing.
    The most likely line to follow here is the "fan failure" message in apple jack. I looked inside my g5 and all fans except for the one close to the Hard Drives aren't spining. I'm not sure this means they aren't functional or whether the temperature isn't high enough for it to be turned on. Temperature must be around 26-28 degrees Celsius today. There is nothing on the internet about that fan failure that's close enough to my case.
    I'm about to quit and take it to the very expensive - yet reliable - authorized tech support apple has in Rio. Any ideas, anyone?

    Maybe it is a security update thing! I have had similar troubles with my CS2 and other simple apps like TextEdit not opening, just doing that single bounce... I have tried EVERYTHING and now, after reinstalling my entire system, have lost access to my own user profile.
    I'm assuming you have tried starting up with your original system install disk in the computer, while you turn it on, hold the option key, it will allow you to run another hardware check, as well as to do an archive install if it comes down to that.
    good luck, please let me know if you find out something else that might be causing the problems... i've noticed that alot of mac threads have similar probs listed.

  • HELP, please! My photos have disappeared from iPhoto library & I can only see them on the screensaver.

    Firstly, I should say we haven't updated/installed/deleted anything.  I just opened iPhoto yesterday and first it told me it couldn't open up without specifying a library, but then it seemed our library has just disappeared.  I then created a new library as, I have to admit, me & my DH are complete tecno dummies, but that didn't help much.  The only thing which we have done in the past couple of days is set up the screensaver to play our photos.  So now we can only see the photos on that - I'm presuming that means they haven't been completely lost (?) but am in a panic as we've got no back-up (three years worth of photos!).
    When I go on 'system preferences' (hope that's the correct translation, our computer's using Italian) and the screensaver, I can see 'picture folder' where all the photos are but I can't find that anywhere else on the computer.
    Also, I read other threads about similar probs & tried launching iPhoto pressing down 'option & control' but that didn't help me out either.
    We also spent half an hour on the phone to the Apple helpline here in Italy (yes, that's a charged call) to try and understand what's gone wrong and the advisor just kept telling us she didn't know how to help us out 'cause our Mac is an old model
    Apologies in advance for my complete ignorance about how to solve this problem but I'd be really grateful if someone out there could shed some light on what's happened.

    when you say to go to my Pictures Folder, do you mean to go on Finder, then Pictures, then look at the iPhoto library?
    Yes. Is there more than one there?
    The material in your screensaver are cached images. They cannot be recovered and soon they will go way.
    If you have deleted your Library (and it sounds like you have done this, accidentally)  the you have deleted your Photos and you need to restore from your back up.
    Regards
    TD
