Similar SSID for two 1252 access points

Hi, we currently have one 1252 AP. It has two Vlans. One for data and one for voice. Just bought another 1252 AP and going to have similar setup.
I read I can have similar SSID so that uses don't need to re-authenticate to the other AP. If this is true, can I just copy the config.txt file to the other AP, except of course I'll change the static IP addr of the AP. Pls advise, thks.

Hi sohocisco,
Keeping the same SSID/VLAN will ensure that L2 roaming is possible, which is what you want. Depending on your authentication methods, though, you may need to configure WDS in order to ensure for seamless roaming as you describe.
Note that this is only if you're using and EAP or WPA (non-PSK) authentication method. Please see this document for configuration assistance:

I hope that helps!

  • SSID only from few Access points

    Hi all
I am going to create a new WLAN id/SSID in wireless controller which is Cisco 4402 and once i create it the ssid is going to be pushed to all the access points but i want to broadcast the SSID only to few access points, is there anyway can we do that either in the controller itself or from WCS. please let me know
    thanks

    Hello,
Yes, you can shape that traffic. Its call Cisco AP Groups. You can simply check the config guide for confi efforts. What code are you on, if you are on 4.2 you can do WLAN Overide.
    Hope this helps ...

    Hi,
Can someone help me for configuring N-Series band on Cisco 1252 Access Point in IOS Mode.

Firstly you need to use WPA2/AES or OPEN authentication.

  • Proxy Setting for Multiple WiFi Access Points

I'm getting ready to roll out 30 iPads in a school setting.  They are going to be on a cart that teachers will be able to check out for class use, but will be returned to the computer lab each evening.  This creates a problem.
Throughout the building, we have several WiFi access points - next year we will have an access point in each classroom.  And of course we connect through a proxy server so that the district can block various wbsites.  As I am setting up my iPad to connect to each access point, I have to set the proxy server address for the access point; I would really like to be able to simply say "This is my proxy server address and port for EVERY WiFi access point in the building." and be done with it.  I haven't been able to find a way to do this -- it looks like I have to configure each access point individually.
Am I just missing something (I hope)?

I suspect you have the D-Link set up to make its network an entirely new subnet using NAT.
If you setup the D-Link as a bridge to the network created by the Extreme, things may work properly.
You may need to refer to the D-Link documentation to find out the proper way to do this.

  • 180.14 pounds for two months access? Something wen...

Moved house on Dec 15th last year. Was just supposed to be an account transfer to new house but somehow this got cocked up and a new account had to be made.
Paid 114.19 in Dec for this quarter that we are in on old account.
Was told to pay a further 65.94 for the new account. So far 180.14 paid into the account as of early jan and not even hooked up yet.
I was without internet from Dec 15th till Jan 14th so roughly a month.
Then i get a refund for 74.95 bringing the total down to 105.19 that i paid for two months access so far.
Now i am getting another bill demanding another 31.25 for line rental and broadband for FEB 14th - MAR 15th. So what was that 105.18 for then? For one months access? I paid in the 114.19 for this quarter in DEC and was without access for a whole month out of this quarter.
Something is seriously wrong and i am owed some funds. Cant deal with indians in india who have no authority to do anything other than to stall and procrastinate so voicing my concerns here for any an all to read.
Only monaing about the bill, mind you. The uptime and actual service provided has been excellent and the best i have seen since i joined the net in 1994. I hardly have any downtime at all and that is really nice to have.

  • Roaming between two WiFi access points fails

    Hi...
I just bought a Hawking WiFi range extender...a device that acts like a second wireless access point for rooms that are far from your wireless router. It's also known as a repeater. It has the same SSID (network name) as the one set up by the router.
You are supposed to be able to move about the house and you will connect to whichever device has the higher signal strength, transparently, with no hiccups, like moving your cell phone from one cell antenna to another.
The setup works fine with my Dell laptop, but not with my MacBook Pro or my iPad. When I change "zones", the Network locks up. This is repeatable and consistent.
I've heard rumors about Apple product difficulties with this "WiFi roaming."
    Can anyone help?
    Thx
    Steve

I've been using a roaming setup in my home for years.  The company I work for has building wide WiFi roaming setup with multiple WiFi access points on each floor.  At home and at work, I frequently move my MacBook between access points without loosing things like my VPN, Screen Sharing, File Sharing, ssh terminal sessions, etc....
But 3rd party networking hardware has not always been well tested against Apple products.  Many times 3rd party networking vendors test against some version of Windows and then ship it.  Sometimes the 3rd party vendor offers a firmware update that corrects issues with Apple products.
At home I have Apple Airport Extreme base stations for my roaming setup.  At work, the company is using Cisco commercial WiFi access points.
A roaming setup needs to have all WiFi devices on the same network "Subnet".  That means a 2nd WiFi base station cannot act as a router, but must be just a bridge on the existing router's subnet (generally that means it cannot be offering DHCP services nor NAT services).
The 2nd WiFi base station must have the same SSID (as you said you setup).
And it must have the same security password using the same encryption algorithm (WPA2 preferred from a security stand point).  You did not mention this, but I'll assume you did this as well.

  • Broadcast SSID only on defined Access Points?

I'm using a Cisco Wireless LAN Controller 5508, 14x Access Points 1041 and 6x Access Points 1031 in combination with a NCS 1.0.
Is it possible to broadcast SSID'S only on defined Access Points, e.g. AP 1-3,7-10,18? If yes, what have I to do?
    Kind regards
    Kai

Quick question, can you validate the below scenario please
    We have seven SSIDs
WLAN           Dynamc Interface that its mapped to
    WHSE10          VLAN10-10.0.10.0/24
    WHSE20          VLAN20-10.0.20.0/24
    WHSE30          VLAN30-10.0.30.0/24
    WHSE40          VLAN40-10.0.40.0/24
    Office50           VLAN50-10.0.50.0/23
    Office60           VLAN60-10.0.60.0/23
    Guest70           VLAN70-172.16.8.0/23
we have around 40 access points in the warehouse and 20 APs in the office, and we are broadcasting SSIDs everywhere, means office and guest SSID s exist on the WHSE APS and WHSE SSID s exist on office APs.
Does having more SSIDs on the APs affects its power (Signal strength) in anyway?
    APgroup1- WHSE-GROUP- (will add VLAN10,VLAN20,VLAN30,VLAN40 interfaces)
    APgroup2- WHSE-OFFICE- (Will add all VLANS-10,20,30,40,50,60 and 70)
APgroup3- OFFICE-GROUP-( Will add only office and Guest WLANs- VLAN50,60 and 70)
We won't need to broadcast any WHSE SSIDs in the office area so we will add the Office APS to ----  APgroup3- OFFICE-GROUP
The WHSE APS will need to advertise both office and WHSE SSID s but we don't need to broadcast Office SSIDs everywhere in the warehouse, so we assign some APs in WHSE to APgroup2- WHSE-OFFICE and some to APgroup1- WHSE-GROUP
How does the client roaming work in the above scenario when they move from APs in APgroup1 to APs in APgroup2 (I don't think this will be any different than normal client roaming from one AP to another AP but I want to make sure)
    Thanks for the help

  • SSID set on specific access points

    Hi All,
I have an installation of 1 wireless controller at a head office and some access points distributed to two locations. One of these locations has requested a guest wireless access. Please advise if i can setup the guest wireless ssid to only be projected from the aps in one location?
I would not like to have both locations see the SSID.
    Thanks

Yes you can. You just need to use AP Groups which allows you to specify what SSID and interface you want that ap to use. Then if you want to drop off the traffic locally you can setup the APs in FlexConnect mode.

  • PoE auto switchover with Cisco 1252 Access Point.

    Dear All
I have a network for Managed Wireless using Cisco. This is a new network for me.
I am in problem with Cisco Access Point 1252. My AP's are connected to a PoE Switch. And Cisco AP's are also connected Powered with also Power Adapter with UPS backup.
But problem is if I disconnect power source of AP Power Adapter , AP is not getting up with PoE. PoE is up only when POWER PLUG of AP ADAPTER is physically pulled out from Socket.
Question is if it is possible to make automatic Failover by PoE when Power source of AP ADAPTER is down ?? I mean no need to PULL OUT  POWER PLUG of AP ADAPTER.
    Waiting for your rely.
    It is very urgent .
    Thanking You
    Subrun.

    Hi Suburn,
1- yes it is possible to do failover without unlupping the cable of AC adapter. When power on ACS adapter is off, then the faiolver happens.
2- with regards to POE, if your switch supporting enhanced POE?
Powering the Aironet 1250 Series Access Point with Cisco Enhanced PoE
Cisco  Enhanced PoE was designed for customers who want to install new  PoE-enabled technologies that require greater than 15.4W per port to  function at full capability, such as wireless technology based on the  IEEE 802.11n standard. Cisco Enhanced PoE provides the full power  requirements for dual-radio modules and eliminates the need to run an  additional cabling drop or insert a separate power injector. Support for  Enhanced PoE is currently available on a variety of Cisco Catalyst® switching platforms. For more information on Enhanced PoE, visit http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/switches/epoe.html.

  • Looking for a good app for viewing Wifi access point info

Does anyone know of an app which will show me all of the access points within reach - even if they all have the same name - and will display signal strength as well as other data?
I work in a place where I have to test the APs and verify that each one of them is up and running. They all have the same name so I need to verify their uniqueness by the MAC address. I also would like the ability to connect to a particular AP in the list and stay connected to it as I travel past other APs of the same name.
I tried WifiTrak but it crashes upon startup. I'm hesitant to buy an app without a recommendation because of this. I'm also hesitant to try WifiFoFum because it wasn't all that great on my WM device and it costs money.
    Any suggestions?

Thank you for your research on my behalf, but as I mentioned in the original post I have tried WiFiFoFum on a Windows Mobile device for free and it was kind of a turd. This makes me very hesitant to purchase it for my iPhone. If they offered a trial version I would give it a shot.
Has anybody actually tried any really good wifi network information tools for iPhone? Can anybody make a recommendation based on experience?

  • Domain user authentication for 3650 Wireless Access point

    Dear All,
I have got new proposal inorder to configure the wireless access points by managing with the 3650 wireless controller.
We wanted to block the Wifi Access to mobile users.
Only domain users need to be authenticate to the corporate wireless access.

  • Unable to get ip address from DHCP server for Aironet 1130AG Access Point

I have a network in which DHCP server is enabled. I have read the installation guide also there it is mentioned that 1130G Access point will not have any staic ip assigned to it.So it will automatically get the ip from the DHCP server from the network. I have connected that from the network but it is unable to get the ip address from the same. The same thing i have configured in the netgear it is coming fine. I have seen the sonic wall and used the IPSU tool also from checking the ip address from Mac Address but i am not able to get the same. Please provide me some tips to check where i am wrong in configuration because the first web page also not coming because of the ip address.

    narendra,
I would suggest that the AP be connected to a laptop or desktop pc that would run a local dhcp server with a small scope setup...plenty of free ones on the web(this pc would obviously not be connected to your currnet network). This way you can watch the dhcp server hand the AP it's address (this can take a few minutes). Once you have the address use it to access the GUI and give the AP a static address (I find it good pratice to give all my autonomous AP's static addresses for ease of troubleshooting)...Hope that helps.

  • Best practice for having an access point giving out only a specific range

    Hey All,
I have an access point which is currently set to relay all dhcp request to the server DC-01, However the range that has been setup is becoming low on available IP addresses so I have been asked if it is possible to setup another range for the AP only.
Is there a way to set the DHCP up with a new range and say anything from that access point it will then give out a 192.168.2 subnet address as apposed to the standard 192.168.1 subnet?
Or would it be easier / better to create a superscope? and slowly migrate the users to a new subnet with a larger range?
Any help suggestions would be appreciated
    thanks
    Anthony

    Hi,
Maybe we could configure a DHCP superscope to achieve your target.

  • Third Party Signal Repeaters/Wireless Extenders for Boosting Cisco Access Points Indoors

We are have some buildings that have access points (Cisco 2602e with 6dBi Terrawave omni antennas) in the hallways, in which the clients residing in rooms aren't receiving a strong enough signal to connect at suitable rates. The main reason for this is the large thick doors utilized for the client rooms reducing the strength of the signal, and we weren't authorized to place APs inside the rooms. Nor are we able to modify the structure of the building, such as changing the doors. We can't ask or expect the clients to keep their doors open to rcv a stronger signal. I've tweaked the Tx power for the APs, and lowered the mandatory rates on the WLC for this location under the RF profile created for it, but this isn't resolving the issue with the weak signal.
One band aid solution idea was to place signal repeaters (low profile) inside each room, behind the wall/door area facing the hallway. I've seen a few third party products online, but they seem to only come in support of the 2.4GHz band. If this is a feasible solution, then it looks like we wouldn't be able to support clients on the 5GHz band on our AP, as clients would most likely connect to the 2.4 GHz band due to a stronger signal, limiting our load balancing on the AP. Anyone have experience with using signal repeaters that work properly with Cisco APs.
Not the ideal situation, but have the hands strapped on what we can do.

If you've got a WLC, then disable TPC and crank up the power to full.

  • Tool for viewing all access points simultaneously

We have 12 Cisco Aironet access points that we're working with. Is there a utility that can be used to view/manage those access points at the same time without having to login to each one from a separate browser?

    Hi Anthony,
When you hit this number of AP's you probably want to look into the WLC (Wireless Lan Controller) This appliance is perfect for managing AP's pushing new configs etc.
