Hello, fellow nice people.
My iBook (I think it is circa 2002, dual ISB? I'm not sure... "About this Computer" doesn't tell me much) is still reading music CDs happily, but refuses to accept a blank cd. This means I cannot burn any data. I have always used a external zip drive in the past, and this is my first time trying to burn data onto a CD.
I've tried burning music CDs before, and the computer said it did not have a CD burner. Does this mean it is incapable of burning normal data (text documents)?

CD-R media didn't become available until 1994, a few years after CD-ROMs and CD drives became available, and Apple didn't ship CD burners in their machines until early 2001.

HP 15 freezing and suspected driver issue but installed drivers!

Hi there! Ive been having this issue ever since I bought this computer! Sometimes the video goes haywire and freezes all scratchy sideways like. Then other times when it crashes I get this most infamous warning sign popping up before it reboots itself!! "system thread not handled atikmdag.sys" So I googled that and all kinds of things about drivers came up. So I tried everything I could understand and ya, should be solved but apparently its not so now Im here. How are you? I could be better, getting nasty urges to destroy this computer! Holding on for dear life, in a life raft, pls save me! Only crashes when Im watching some videos or got multiple windows open. Cant handle nothing I guess! Thought A8's werent that bad once upon a time. I even replaced the computer right after I bought it while it was still on warranty! Was having the same issue on the old I had. Normally a recovery isnt that hard for me to handle but that may have been a few operating systems ago.

I can't get the audio Playhead menu to appear so I can trim an audio segment in a secondary audio track. I see others are having Trimming Issues, but I can't even get the menu to appear.....

I need to trim off the front and back of audio segments (pulling from iTunes)
The instructions seems quite clear on how to do this, but the Playhead Control does not appear when selecting and item in the secondary audio track. It seems pretty basic, but how do I even get the Playhead to appear?
I'm in hurry to finish a slideshow for a wedding (why I bought it to begin with) - any help will be appreciated.

That's the for the secondary track. But how do I trim the primary audio song from itunes. I did find a work around.
select the song in itunes.
command + I to get the information screen.
Under one of the tabs there is a "start" and "end" timer. Trial and error will put allow you to start and stop at the time specifed.
I renamed it " trimmed" so I knew it was a timmed version...then I inserted it into aperture the normal way...
A pain, but it works...

G5Fan/ Freeze issue, but different conditions. any ideas?

I'm posting about recent issues with my G5 DP 2GHZ.
My rig has been fine since day one, but since I changed my system drive, and added a second drive, the fan randomly goes into a crazy high-speed mode, and then locks up, requiring a hard shut down.
My conditions seem to be different than the previous thread:
My prefs are set to "never put the drives to sleep".
This issue only occurred with a freshly formatted, brand new drive.
My freezes happen with very little going on.
No external drives/devices attached.
Conversely, I’ve run the system VERY hard, recording 85 tracks of high res audio at once, slaving to LTC for over 3 hours without an issue.
So needless to say I’m very confused.
My variables from a stable G5 to an unstable G5 are:
1. a new, bigger, partitioned system drive.
2. adding a second drive, where there was none.
Could this be a power supply issue?
how do you test the power supply?
Here are the facts:
*my os is 10.4.9
*2.5 gb ram
*used carbon cloner to copy my original system disc to new Seagate 7200.11 1 TB drive
*installed second 1TB storage drive.
*both drives divided into 6 partitions.
*both drives formatted OS extended [Journaled]
*jumpers are in the correct position
*drive firmware is SD15, the correct, and most current
*drives are set to never go to sleep
*fan/freeze is not task specific, meaning it will lock up with no apps open
*this fan/freeze is sporadic, and has happened three times in the last 4 days.
*studio is very cool, CPU does not seem overly hot
Ive ran a system log, but have no idea what to look for.

You will need to uninstall, run the Cleaner tool and reinstall you adobe applications. Adobe apps don't take kindly to inplace updates of the OS on Macs.

Driver issue after Downgrading to Windows 7 (Pavilion 17-f081no)

So,i went to downgrade yesterday,and have had this problem ever since. Nothing works except one USB port at the right side of the laptop (when looked at front),no usb connections,no wireless or wired connection,nothing. They are all dead,including SD card slot.
I know its the driver issue,but i cant seem to find them. I need something for USB ports,Ethernet/Network card/,SM BUS controller etc. They are all listed under "Other devices" in Device manager.
What drivers should i be getting? I have been trying to google,but i am starting to feel really hopeless here.

Display and driver issues with Windows 7 on i5 MBP

Hello-
I just purchased one of the i5 Macbook Pros, and set out to get Windows 7 working through boot camp. I did this on an older model (32-bit) previously with no problems.
This time around, installation of Windows worked fine, but I have had some trouble getting all the drivers working. The setup.exe program on the OS X DVD didn't want to run at all, I had to do a workaround from the command line that I found on a forum (otherwise I just got a response of "Bootcamp x64 is unsupported on this computer model").
Eventually I got (at least some of) the drivers to work, but there are still some issues.
After installing the drivers, things like brightness and two-finger clicking started working. A number of other things still aren't, though:
- Display: My machine has a 1440x900 screen. But for some reason Windows refuses to go higher than 1280x800.
- Network: No wireless at all. Windows doesn't detect any wireless capability, and only gets on-line via ethernet.
There may be other issues, but these are the big ones. Can anyone provide suggestions on what to do to get everything working?

I just used winclone to move my Win 7 from my Core2Duo MPB to an i5 MBP and had to do a few updates and have eneded up in pretty much the same place as you. I won't bother installing from scratch. I'm guessing we just need to wait for some bootcamp updates for these new machines.
For those of you who are looking to migrate your bootcamp partition over, winclone made it easy - I followed the directions for resizing and Win7 boots, does a disk check, then installed many of the new drivers automatically. There are some drivers that are still needed however, wifi and video. I also so a USB driver issue but have to look at that a little closer before I comment.

On windows 8 and itunes I have importing problems the DVD is only reading the music cd from 1.5x to 4.0x for 95% of the time, it does hit speeds of 30x for the other 5% of the time. Is it a driver issue with the DVD or is it a windows 8 issue?

No. You have no alternative but to plug it into a computer running iTunes and restore it.

I'm having similar problems with an HP OfficeJet 6500. One suggestion that improved the situation, but did not totally solve the problem, was to select "OfficeJet Pro L7700" for its drivers.
One other suggestion is to turn off the printer, then simultaneously hold down the "#" and "9" keys and turn the printer back on. This hot key seems to reset the printer to factory defaults, allowing you to set things up anew.
Finally, kvetch to HP. Their networking software clearly has problems in its relationship to OSX, but nobody on either side seems motivated to bring in a good therapist.

Reset all settings to simplify the app search still did not reviel the app.
In the app store the app said Open, but it would not.
The solution was simple.
Settings> General> Usage> Show all Apps> Select App> Delete App.
Then App Store download app.
Fixed.

Telling is that you tried most of the things on the net doesn't tell us exactly what you did try, so we are all still left to guess .....
Sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again
If that doesnt work - go to Settings>General>Date and Time - set the date ahead by a few months. Try to update again. If you get an error message of any kind - go back and change the date and time to automatic again. Then try again.
If that doesn't work, restart your router and reboot the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

Hello, The Hatter, I read about the 'trick' of backing up, erasing, and restoring too, but I figured it would take longer than defragmenting the disk.
But the defragmentation process has just finished! so I'm gonna try to run Boot Camp again soon!

And P.S. I didn't clone my system onto the external drive, I just inserted the Mac OS X Install CD, rebooted holding down the "C" key, and installed a fresh Snow Leopard system onto the predetermined partition. I will use that in cases of emergency, when my main/internal system becomes unusable.

If I'd had that problem and done things that you'd done and seen no results. I'd delete FF again but this time fully - clean the registry as well. Then I'd remove java environment and everything related to it, sdk, jre etc...Reboot the PC and reinstall the newest version of FF, then download the latest versions of java platforms, sdk etc... and reinstall the as well.

They show up in the search box, but when I click on the results it just kicks me to ALL my music. I have imported thousands of songs/CD's before and this is a new one.

Something may have gone wrong with the index of the Music playlist. Making another change to the library such as downloading the current iTunes Free Single of the Week, or deleting one track from your library and reimporting it, should fix the problem.
If that doesn't work close iTunes and delete the hidden file sentinel from inside the main iTunes folder, then start iTunes again. It should run a consistency check when it starts up which ought to correct things.

Cd wont copy driver issue due to other cd burning software.i dont have any other software!

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

Is it the Home button that doesn't work, or the Power (Sleep/Wake) button? If the Power button works, you can switch it off. Not sure how you have been able to do anything without the Home button working?
