Hey wspearman,
Thanks for the question. Genius is still a great feature of iTunes 11, it may be that you simply need to turn it on. To do so, click Store > Turn On Genius

  • Why are the Apple mods deleting and locking threads?

I would like an answer as to why the mods are deleting and locking threads that have to do with the error that pervasive in the iPod 1.1 upgrade. It seems that Apple will not acknowledge it but some of us are trying to find an answer and Apple locks the thread and deletes another one. As paying customers, Apple should realize that it is us who keeps the lights on in Cupertino. I think a bit more respect to the paying customer is in order here.

Here's a reframe to your original question - The fact that the thread was locked means that the Hosts have seen the thread. It is reasonable therefore to conclude that they would have allerted the relevant people of the issue and referred them to that thread.

  • My macbook is getting the question mark folder and also my start up disks are gone

A few weeks back I turned on my macbook and discovered that it cannot boot up anymore. There was absolutely no precedent to this. I didn't drop it (I've dropped it many times in the past if that matters, and may have placed it down on my desk a little to aggressively the night before), and I had no problem using my computer right before going to bed. I just closed it went to sleep and the next morning my computer was malfunctioning. Whenever I turn it on the computer is stuck at a grey screen with a blinking picture of a folder with a question mark on it. I thought my computer was a lost cause and I bought a new one, but now I am in desperate need of recovering my lost files on my old computer which I still have.
So I go to the internet for help, with my goal being to just fix my old macbook or at least salvage the data, and read that the thing to do is press command+R when the computer boots up and fire up internet recovery, then go to disk utility and fix the drive/disc/whatever from there. So I press command+R at start up, and I get past the loading screen with the globe and go to a menu giving me the options of disk utility, time machine, reinstallation, and looking on mac forums for help. I click on disk utility and my mac os x disc does not appear to be on the left hand side. There is one disk under a disk that says Disk1 that says MAC OS X BASE SYSTEM or something to that effect on it, but if you click on its info it says that that particular disc has a total capacity of only 1.39 GB, so that can't be it, right? Also when I click on it it doesn't give me the option to verify or repair it. There's another disk at the very top of the left hand side that says 4.14 GB ST_M13FQ8L M... but it also has a low total capacity.
After I find no help in disk utility I decide to take a different route and see if I have any time machine back ups and it asks me to select the disk that contains the backup I want to restore, but the list that is shown is empty. I don't remember ever setting up a time machine back up so this doesn't surprise me.
So I move on to another solution- to try and reinstall MAC OS X Lion and it takes me to a window where it asks me to select the disc where I want to install MAC OS X Lion, but the the little white box under the message that is supposed to show a list or something of the available selections/discs is completely empty. So I have no start up discs?
Then I click shut down on the upper left hand corner of the screen to turn of my computer and another window appears asking me to select the system i want to use to start up my computer but that box is also completely empty.
I don't know what to do this at this point, and I don't know how to interpret the situation either, even after researching the issue on the internet. Does this mean that my harddrive/disc or whatever is completely gone/broken? And more importantly does this mean that all of my data is gone forever? Or is the system or computer itself broken or something like that, but my hard drive is intact? Now that I have a new computer all I really need is to somehow transfer the data from my broken computer to my new one, and don't really need to "fix" my computer- but if fixing it is the only means to see my data again that's what I want to do. And also can I fix this manually by myself, or does this require professionals. And if i do need to hire someone, how much will this typically cost? Thanks!
Some other facts: The macbook in question (the broken one) is an aluminum 13 inch macbook pro from I think 2012, maybe 2011, and used to run on Mavericks. I also used to have windows bootcamp on it but i rarely used it. The macbook has been having some problems for a while and recently started to slowly break down. The USB ports stopped working completely, all of its apps were slow and glitched a lot, the battery in it was nearly dead (it said REPLACE SOON where the battery symbol used to be on the upper right hand corner of the screen), but it still worked at a base level and I used it for work and stuff, up until this point of course.

This document should give you some leads as to what to do.

  • [ANSWERED]Question about cvs and svn versioning and yaourt

Now then, I know that cvs and svn are development branches and can have more than one 'branch' (at least that is my current understanding) but what I want to know is what, when compiled and installed, does it have a different version number from the numbers used in the AUR?
    For instance:
    tint2-svn: (local=28-1 aur=17-1)
I just compiled it, and for kicks ran an update with yaourt. It wanted to compile tine and a few other cvs/svn packages that I had just compiled about ten minutes ago.
This isn't the first time, before yaourt would ignore a legit update because the local version was "newer" due to the numbering...
    What's going on??

    Thanks guys!
xaiviax wrote:yaourt  -Su --devel                     * upgrade all cvs/svn/mercurial/git/bazar packages
I enabled that in the yaourtrc without realizing that was what I was doing, and figured out that is what was causing them to automatically update regardless of any actual need to do so. Thank you, I would not have caught that without your suggestion.
Xyne: I will definitely look into that, it may solve the issue of over enthusiastic updating.

  • Application store requires that you answer 3 questions for future verification. The questions are stupid and not easy to remember. Why can I not just proceed with my download without this?

The Application Store requires that you answer 3 questions for future verification. The questions offered are questions that I at least have no clear answer to. What was the first film you saw? and the like. You can say Not now, but then nothong happens and you are back to where you started. Is there a way to proceed with downloading apps without answering these stupid questions?
I refuse to believe that Apple as an organisation designed these questions - must have been somebody else.

This is Apple's security feature, you answer the questions or you stop using the account and buy Mac apps elsewhere. Do a search on Secure Notes in the keychain and answer the questions with nonsense answers and store them in a Secure Note for future reference.

  • Get question id's and its corresponding answer id for given Doc id's

    Hi,
I am trying to write a program which gets the  Equality values (Questionaire - Erecruiting) like :
    1) Gender
    2) Care Resp
    3) Care Type
    4) Ethnic Origin
    5) Religion
    6) Disability
    7) Sexual Orientation
    8) Age Range
And move it to an internal table which has each Equality as a field.
I referred to the following tables in order to get the question id's and its corresponding answer id's for questionaire.
    1) hrp5141
    2) hrp5125
    3)T77RCF_INFDAT
And i tried to fetch the equality data using the class CL_HRRCF_QA_BL. This class returns the values from hrp5141. It also returns the object id, answer id and answer text. CL_HRRCF_QA_BL class also intern calls the function module HRHAP_DOCUMENT_GET_DETAIL, which gets the set of questions and its answers. But this question id's and answer's differ for document id's (QA_DOC_GUID).
Here the problem is the object id for Doc id's (QA_DOC_GUID) are differing.
Example 1: I have taken first QA_DOC_GUID - BF2C554821CFBFF180C5DKDINGKGNSKE as input to check its question and answer using CL_HRRCF_QA_BL class.
The question id is here I am assuming is 20366558 and the corresponding answer id is 20368559 for Gender.
Example 2: I randomly picked one more QA_DOC_GUID - BAS06AE4533374F1B3CF0018F346808A. The question id here is 50368915 and answer id is 50368918 for gender which is different from the first example.
I am not able to decide on other fields as the answers for it could be generic viz., YES, NOT, Prefer not to answer etc. Whereas Gender holds the value of either Male, Female or Prefer not to answer, Religion holds Religion name or Prefer not to answer value and similarly Age holds the age range or Prefer not to answer value.
Can anybody suggest on how to get the equalities values (the question id's and its corresponding answer id's).
    Appreciate quick response.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Rashmi

    Hello RichR,
To setup an iCloud account, you don't need an existing email address. Take a look at this article which contains more information about iCloud email:
    iCloud: Mail overview
When you set up iCloud with a new Apple ID that doesn’t use an existing email address, your new Apple ID ends with @icloud.com and is the email address for your free iCloud Mail account. If your Apple ID doesn’t end with @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com, you must set up an @icloud.com email address before you can use iCloud Mail.
If you already use iCloud Mail with an @mac.com or @me.com email address, you also have an @icloud.com email address. You have an @icloud.com equivalent for every active @me.com or @mac.com email address or alias that you have as part of your account.
After you set up your iCloud Mail account, you can sign in to icloud.com/#mail and start using iCloud Mail on the web right away. To use iCloud Mail on your devices, you must set it up on each device. For more information, see Set up iCloud Mail on your devices.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Take Care,

  • I need to reinstall lion OS on my MAC mini. I have the 'question mark folder'.

It is a mid 2011 mac mini. It boots to the 'question mark folder'. I installed lion server over my lion OS. After trying to remove the server app unsuccessfully, I id a command-r boot and erased the Macintosh HD where my OS was wiht the intention to reinstall. THe on-screen instruction I thought said I had to reboot after to use the recovery HD so I di. Now when it boots, it jsut goes to the 'question mark folder' and does not load. I only have the bluetooth keyboard so will the mini recognize the command-r on boot? It doesnt appear to.
    Thansk for any input,
    Ken

Had the same problem w/ a Mac mini server. The only thing that helped was not the timing, but a disconnection of all cables from the machines: power, keyboard, etc., and a wait of one minute which according to Apple support - resets some config on the machine. After I did that, Command R worked just fine.
BTW, According to Apple, you have to hold Commmand R just after you hear the chime, and keep holding it until you see the recovery utility. Another alternative can be holding Command Option R for network recovery.

  • Question on SPAU and SPDD.

    Hi Everybody,
I have gone through the links and the questions in SDN and ended up in some confusion...
What objects will come in SPAU and SPDD?
What happens to the modifications done in the older version when we upgrade the version? (with Modification assistant and w/o)
Will they come in these transactions?
And what if we apply some patches(Notes) to the system? What is the impact of these patches to the SPAU transaction?
    Please provide me the information..
    Thanks in advance...

    hi Sankar,
Please find below, answers to your questions:
I have gone through the links and the questions in SDN and ended up in some confusion...
1.What objects will come in SPAU and SPDD?
<i>Ans: All the objects which are modified, after tansporting to the current system,
will be listed in SPAU and SPDD. SPDD contains the list of all modified Data Dictionary objects, like tables, dataelements, domains,view...etc. The rest of all the modified repository objects will be listed in SPAU. </i>
What happens to the modifications done in the older version when we upgrade the version? (with Modification assistant and w/o)
<i> Ans: After the initial upgrade happens, we have to do adjustments from SPAU/SPDD to maintain or reset the changes. That is, from the list of objects in SPAU/SPDD, you have to either carry forward the changes to the new version, by choosing the option <b>ADOPT CHANGES</b> (available on right click) or <b>RESET TO ORIGINAL</b> (available on right click)</i>.
Will they come in these transactions?
<i> Ans: yes, they will be listed in these transactions, after the BASIS updgrade activity. </i>
And what if we apply some patches(Notes) to the system? What is the impact of these patches to the SPAU transaction?
<i>Ans: Patches will be supported by the version upgrade. In case of notes, we have to verify whether these notes are supported by the new version (you can go into <u>http://www.service.sap.com/notes</u> to verify this. Also, we have to analyze whther the code in the note is already incorporated in the new version. In this case you can ignore the chanes choosing <b>RESET TO ORIGINAL</b> option</i>
    Hope this helps,
    Sajan Joseph.

  • Need something similar to the Workset Map iView

    Hello,
I'm looking for something that is very similar to the workset map iview and was hoping someone could help me out. The problem for me using the workset map iview is that it only pertains to one role. I basically need an entry point that can point to several different items from different roles based upon the roles a current user has. I guess you could say much like a site map but we want it to look like the workset map iview.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -Tamara

    Hello Shibendra,
What u can do is create KM Navigation Iview and assign that  Iview to Workset and that workset to role.
now place that newely created workset next to the intended one and then see the preview of Worset Map iview .
in that u will see the intended Iview and next to it the Km navigation Iview that u have created  and  after clicking on that iview u will be navigated to the required position in KM
    Hope this works
    If so please reward ponts.
    Regards.

  • Combining the fixed and cached thread pools

Is there a way to 'combine' the behavior of cached and fixed thread pools ? I have a requirement where
    - at startup, I need to execute a fixed number of short-lived tasks at the background
    - after startup, on demand, I need to run one short-lived task at a time
If I use a fixed thread pool for my startup processing, it creates the fixed number of threads to process the tasks. But subsequently, those many threads are not required since my task submission is going to be one at a time. The remaining (n-1) threads therefore are really sitting idle & useless.
If I use a cached thread pool, then I cannot constrain the number of threads to run at startup (since it creates one for each task). Though it ends up taking those threads out after they are idle for a fixed period. But I'm worried that it might create many threads and possibly slowing down the startup ?
Is there a way to create a pool with a fixed number of threads but 'remove' a set of threads when they are idle ?
    TIA

Thanks. The SynchronousQueue worked as expected. But I tried a LinkedBlockingQueue with size 1 hoping that would cause the second task submission to cause a new thread creation. It didn't. Instead it queues up the request (maybe the doc in ThreadPoolExecutor says that when it mentions "If corePoolSize or more threads are running, the Executor always prefers queuing a request rather than adding a new thread"). I suppose if I were to try another it would create another thread ? (I was testing with only two tasks - the first one ended up creating a thread for the task and the next got queued since the queue capacity is 1)yes, the TPE will not start adding threads until the queue starts rejecting them. kind of odd in my opinion, but that's how it works.
Btw, that was an interesting idea to add a task that scale the core pool number down ! Currently it comes back down to just the one thread (my core pool size is one) after the idle timeout but your idea may give me a slightly better response since it will scale down the core pool size quicker....I suppose if there was a task submission before that idle time there maybe a performance hit (but I don't anticipate that in my case )?actually, that won't scale things down any faster. changing the core pool size will not ditch the other threads immediately, they will still stick around until they idle timeout. changing the core pool size allows you to not worry about the queue implementation (the first solution). you can set the initial core pool size to your "max" size on startup, then drop it down for the normal processing, all the while using a linkedblockingqueue of unlimited size.

  • Question about Java RMI and Eclipse

I would like to create an application with which I can easily connect to a JAVA program, installed on a web server, through JAVA RMI. I have already created a ClientRMI.java and a ServerRMI.java and compiled them. The stubs also have been created properly.
When I run the application outside the Eclipse editor, everything works just fine! However, when I want to integrate the files into a bigger project in Eclipse... and starts running it, he tells me he can't find the stub class or something like that. I need to place this one in the classpath but I don't know how to do that in Eclipse? Could anyone help me with this problem?
    Thanks!
This is the fault message I get:

Do you have an idea of what the answer to our
question could be?I don't have much idea about the question myself. I was groping in the dark. :-)
Anyway, the project classpath settings and the external jars (or dependent projects) are a few things which could be experimented with. I'm afraid I couldn't be much help without having a look at what you are trying to do. :-(
