Simple animation software for Arch?

Can anyone suggest a simple animation program for Linux; something similar to AnimationShop for windows.  I know there's gimp-GAP, but that seems to be fairly advanced for my purposes.  I just want to be able to string together images into .gif or video, perhaps with an 'onion layer' feature so you can see the previous frame transparently; that sort of thing.
I use gnome, so preferably something for GTK, or at least if it's KDE, that depends only on QT and not KDE packages.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

skottish wrote:You don't actually need GAP to do animated Gifs in Gimp. All you need to do is add all the frames that you want as layers in one image, then save as Gif. Gimp will ask you if you want to flatten the image or make an animation out of it. If you choose animation, it will ask you for a frame rate.
Thanks.  I realised this eventually and got it done that way.
Still, out of curiosity are there any 'film-strip' type animation programs out there?

  • Reasonably priced animation software for iMac

I am retired and while not at all well off, I am appreciative of being in the position of not having to earn money any more.
I am currently absorbed in putting together several generations of family photos, movies and keepsakes in as interesting and historically as possible, using iMovie.  Unfortunately, iMovie is ok for fairly mundane taskes, If you can overcome it's restrictive/protective baises and malfunctions.
Anyway, I am looking for a reasonably priced animation software to use as a general purpose interfacer for movies and stills and explanations were necessary.
I have spent hours searching and testing softwares but found most lacking in facilities of one sort or another. Enough to make them not worth taking up room on my computer. I have deliberately avoided high end stuff costing many hundreds of £/$.  Especially Adobe. I find their software very difficult to even get started with.
Xara exteem pro 5 was my first choice but their animation software will not run on a Mach and in any case you cannot convert their Pro 5 animations to anything usefull format so I am stuck and pleeding for help.
Can anyone recommend a animation software for iMac with broard facilities, similar to Xara Extreme Pro 5.   up to, say $200 ?

  • Online Radio Management Software for Arch Linux

After switching to Arch Linux, I found out that I have no interest to try any other distro. Unfortunately I really missed something that I have used in Ubuntu, and that was Sourcefabric : Airtime. It is a free opensource radio automation software, and that mean if you want to have an online radio, you can make it yourself using Airtime.
Can somebody port this software to Arch Linux, or anybody have a better choice/solution? Any suggestion will greatly be appreciated. Thank you very much for spending your time reading this.

Read about the AUR. Create a PKGFILE for it and then you can install it via makepkg. Then, if it works well, submit your PKGFILE to the AUR.

  • Simple animation software

When I was at NAB earlier this year, a program was demonstrated where a simple animated character would actually speak the words typed on the keyboard. I can't find the info, and don't know if it was available for Mac, but if anyone knows about such a program, please let me know. I want to use it in FCP projects.
    Thx,
    Marcia Orland
    [email protected]

I think those programs are PC based. I do know of the ones you speak of and have seen them used online often. What I'm not certain is how you would get a person to type in a Movie or QT file after FCP is done with it?
You might want to consider filming your subjects with loads of answers than exporting that video and building the rest of your project in Flash 8. This way you get full functionality of video and user input.
Also Macromedia has done a loads of improvments with flash video and you might want to consider reading up on it, might be more helpful on what your trying to do.

  • Very simple Programming software for OS X Lion.

I'm basically new to Mac and to OS X Lion, so be easy with me if my questions are rather simple than what i'm thinking. I recentely purchased a Macbook, switching from windows pc after many years of using it. My new Macbook pro came with OS X Lion and with several awesome software preinstalled, iLife etc... amount them was one called iWeb which is a very interesting software to build web site, back to the time when i was using windows, i was using dreamweaver to build amature web site, for members of my family and forth, with iWeb i realise that things are much eaiser, all i have to do is drag and drop, input my text, or resize windows and so on, i do not need to tap in any code as iWeb is doing that job for me. It's a very great app for amature. After using iWeb for a good while and really enjoy using it, i'm now wondering if there are the same kind of software to build really simple application for mac. Simple application such as memo notes, simple dairy with calendar inside, etc... i know about the Xcode, but that require me to tap in codes and more over Xcode is just too huge for me to finish learning all the featuers it has in no time, so no i don't want to use Xcode because i don't know how the codes for creating cocoa apps for OS X Lion.
If you know any other programing softwares for mac which really doesn't require much of coding but instead work almost like dreamweaver or iWeb for web site building, please advice me here, it doesn't matter to me if it's free or shareware.
Thanks in advance for your input and your time.

  • What  the best animation software for a beginner, that can export in Flash.

I would like to design a into for a website, but I don't have the time to learn Flash. So it there an easier way of doing it?

I agree with everyone about "flashed" sites. Still, if you want to mess around with some basic animation (animated GIF's, etc.) there are a couple of pretty simple programs to get you started like Web Painter which is also a lot cheaper than flash and has a much more manageable learning curve. Also, there is a "poor man's photoshop" called Paint Shop Pro that comes bundled with a very simple A.G. app called Animation Shop. Unfortunately, the program only runs on windoze so you would either need a PC, Virtual PC or an Intel Mac with "boot camp" and expee.

Regarding video playback, I was wondering about Videolan VLC and it is even available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux :0 Just go to http://www.videolan.org. VLC can play pretty much every common movie format, and it think it is the most versatile video player. You can even use it to stream/boradcast video and connect to several devices, including firewire. I think it pretty much replaced mplayer, though it is still used, i.e. ffmpegX media encoder and converter.

  • Help creating an animated gif for a navbar!!

Hey guys, I am very new to fireworks and dreamweave and am having a problem that is making my head spin! I have to create a simple animated .gif for a navigation bar (which will be made in dreamweaver). The navigation bar should function similar to this: http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~baronson/ITI320/Exercise2/functionality.html. Essentially, all that is happening is I create this animated image and in dreamweaver, when I create the AP NavBar, I set the mouseover to that image. My problem is that in comparison to this website's mouseover image  ( http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~baronson/ITI320/Exercise2/images/navi/audience_OVER.gif ) my animated gif has multiple layers and states, where as his only has one layer. I can't seem to figure out how to include both the text, and the gif image, and incorporate them under the same layer.
A follow up question after having found how to incorporate both into the same state, would I have to lasso out each piece of my animated gif for the individual state I want to have it applied to?
Any help/pointer to where the information can be found would be greatly appreciated. I've read through the manuals and watched many of Babbage's videos but haven't been able to figure this out. Thanks!

Your gif doesn't need to have multiple layers, but it does need to have multiple states. To save yourself a lot of confusion, create the animated gifs first, and then export them. Create your navbar in the usual way, with simple rolloveres or swap images. Export the navbar.Rename the animated gifs with the names of the over state of the navbar images, and then delete (or mone to another folder) the over state images of the navbar. Move the renamed gif animations into the image folder of the navbar. Preview in browser. The animated gifs should have replaced the original over state of the buttons.

  • What video / animation software do I need for making a photos mouth move?

I would like to create a video of my son singing to an music track. I want to use a digital photo of him that I have and I want to make his mouth move in the photo as if he is singing the song. I would like it to look as real as possible. I am having trouble finding the right software to use. Does anyone have a suggestion? Will Apple Final Cut do this? Motion?

You can try to use anime studio for mac ($49.99), and it will use your sons image as a 2D.
But the quality will be more like a south park style and might not looks real.
I use Toon Boom Studio ($399), there was Toon Boom Express version ($49.99) last year, but now the developer stop developing that version.
for real result, maybe you should consider 3d animation or flash animation software instead of 2d software.
    Good Luck.

  • Which animation software should I go for?

I have FCP 4 and I want to add some backgrounds like a big greek building or walking on the rainbow... I assume I need to make those kind of backgrounds on my own? If so, which animation software should I go for to create those kind of landscape background?? Or there may be some program that already has designed background?? Please let me know. I am learning through on my own.

lol - Throw them in the deep end with the easy stuff first, huh Shane ?
Have a google for video backs from Artbeats, Jump Backs, Corbis and so on - you may find some stock stuff there to use. It's not cheap.
To learn an app like Maya is a whole other thing and others like Cinema 4D, lightwave etc, etc - developing the craft of 3D compositing is something that takes an enormous amount of time and patience. These are apps I have looked at and have never, ever found the time to be able to learn them past the most basic understanding. But if you have the inclination then go for it !
If you have a fast current pc then you might like to look at the stuff from Serious Magic - some precomps there that might fit the bill.

  • Delgate or give administrative athority to a user for simple client software installation

I have a new Server 2012 R2 machine. It contains a single domain with an Active Directory Domain Services configured. Currently there are 10 users been served by this server: roaming profiles, sharing of a printer, and sharing of some files. The setup is
very simple as you can see.
The client machines connected to the server all run a simple mapping software. From time to time, the software vendor that supplies the mapping software puts out patches and updates. From time to time, a user will want to install a peice of his or her
own software (examples: Google Earth; Yahoo Messanger).
The users are all responsible adults. I don't need to worry about them messing up their machines with malware. But I'm not available to the users all the time. Rignt now, I have to logon to the client machine each time to run the .exe file as myself (the
Administrator) to perform a software installation.
I don't want to give out my Administrator password. Is it possible to create a user (or allow an existing user) of the domain to have the right to install a peice of software on their own but without allowing this user to make other changes to the domain
    or the server?
I appricate you taking the time to read my question. Please let me know if there's anything unclear in my inquiry.

Additionally, it is not at all uncommon to grant users local administrative privileges on their own machines.  This does not involve granting them administrative permissions on the domain - just on their machine.  As Domain Administrator, you would
still have local administrative access to each machine (Domain Admins are automatically added to the local administrators group).
I would suggest that you create a separate account for them on their machines that would be joined to the local administrator's group and that they only use that account when they need to install a patch or some allowed software.  All other work should
be done under their regular, non-privileged account.
