Simple D20 RAID questoin -- needs to be preconfigured?

Does the Thinkstation D20 need to have its RAID "configured by Lenovo", i.e. when originally purchased?
On the Thinkpad W520, I believe you have to select that you want RAID, or else you won't have the right hardware installed, and I wonder if the D20 is the same way.
I am wondering if I'll have to buy all five drives, in the arrays I want, if I want to have RAID in my future Thinkstation.  I'm pretty sure I've seen this addressed somewhere but haven't been able to track a definitive answer back down.
Thanks for the help,

  • Conversion of ad20 non raid to a D20 raid 1 and keeping existing OS/data

I have a new D20 with windows 7-x64 pre installed on it.  I purchased a second Lenovo supplied sata add in drive to convert the system to raid 1.
When I add the  “raid 1” in support in the bios,  the system when it reboots does not recognize the existing windows 7 partition.
When I used “other mfg” on board raid configuration, the working partition was considered the master partition and was automatically mirrored to the  new added drive (making it raid1)
My expectation was that there would be either a “thinkvantage” tool that allowed you to do this from the OS, or there would be a some OS add on tool that performs this function
So my question..  Can you convert a d20 non raid to a D20 raid 1 (given drives are the same etc), and if so (I am a glass half full person), what is the process required to do so.
    thanks
    matt k.

if the marvell RAID controller hasn't been enabled, you'll need to install the driver.   it can be found here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-73697
after this is installed, boot into the D20 BIOS and enable RAID.   reboot again into the unconfigured drive and see if you can get into windows.   if so, you can set up your RAID 1 array.
if you want to control RAID configuration from within windows, you'll need to install the marvell RAID utility found here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-73073

  • Help required to customize Simple/Advanced Search. Need to add new fields

    Hello,
    Module: Oracle Sales Online
    EBS version: 12.1.3
    Jdev version: 10.1.3.3
    Scenario:
    - We are dealing with standard oracle pages.
    - We have TWO "SIMPLE/ADVANCED SEARCH"s available. Each "Simple/Advanced Search" can be found by navigating through paths "A --> B" and "A --> B --> C --> D" . Here it means one "SIMPLE/ADVANCED SEARCH" page is available at page "B" and another "SIMPLE/ADVANCED SEARCH" is available at page "D".
    - In the first search page which is at page "B", both Simple as well as Advanced search has a filter field "Win Probability %", of type VARCHAR2/DROPDOWN with values (10, >=10, <=30, 30, >=30, <=50, 50, >=50, <=70, 70, >=70, <=90, 90, 100)
    - In second search page, referring to page "D", the Simple search DOESN'T have the "Win Probability %". And the Advanced Search page has the "Win Probability %" but it is of type - NUMBER/MessageTextInput type.
    Issue/Requirement:
    - The 2nd Simple/Advanced search pages need to have "WIN PROBABILITY %" field and it should be of VARCHAR2/DROPDOWN with values (10, >=10, <=30, 30, >=30, <=50, 50, >=50, <=70, 70, >=70, <=90, 90, 100) just like the way we had in 1st Simple/Advanced search.
    Note:
    - Again speaking we are dealing with standard oracle pages
    - If you go to the "About this Page", interestingly I found:
    i. The "message component layout" for both of them is from the same region , i.e., ASNOpptympSrchRN
ii. Rest of the search filters for both the searchs are from common View Object , i.e., OpptySearchVO1 (for Simple search), OpportunityDetailsVO1 (for advanced search)
iii. The "Stack layout" for both the search pages are same, i.e. XXMASOpptyQryCO
iv. None of the fields are rendered to false (everything is set to be rendered TRUE)
    Any response is highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Anand

"XXMASOpptyQryCO is the name of stacklayout or CO?
    What is the CO?
Does both pages share same CO?
have you already extended the CO "XXMASOpptyQryCO"?
what is the original CO then? I think in that CO it must be written somewhere, simple search "search allowed = false""
-Here CO what you are referring is a controller.
    -FYI pages share same controller.
-And the original controller for both the pages are OpptyUwqCO. Right now its extended controller is XXMASOpptyQryCO
Fact is I didn't create this search page. It was built by some third party members. Also that I do not have the original source nor the documentation pertaining to it. So could you inform as in how should I navigate to the point "Search Allowed = True"
I should have informed that at "B" page, it has a region      /oracle/apps/asn/opportunity/webui/ASNMgrOpptyQryRN and at page "D", the region is      /oracle/apps/asn/opportunity/webui/ASNOpptyQryRN

  • Newbie lesson - xServe RAID boxes need 2 Controller modules to work well!

So I thought I'd share my experience with my xServe RAID box, because I built it from parts (via eBay) I thought I could run it with a single controller with up to 7 drives until I needed to expand it later, I had all sorts of strange problems:
    - Could't build new RAID arrays
    - Couldn't update firmware
    - Restarting box often led to the array disappearing
    - Existing array sometimes didn't show up in Disk Util.
I tried replacing cables and Fibre cards but no change until I added a second RAID controller and then suddenly everything worked great!
Thanks to everyone here for trying to help me out with my problems, the box now runs great
So the lesson here is that an xServe RAID box needs 2 controllers to function properly, with only 1 it runs in some kind of undocumented failsafe mode.

See my response to your crosspost in the Xserve RAID group.

  • External Raid Advice Needed

    Hello,
I have a Xserve (Intel) and I am setting it up in a co-location. They only accept rack equipment and I am in need of a raid 5 option for my server.
I dont want to spend the money and buy a Xserve since this is only for mysql database and one website.
I was told to go NAS but I am not sure thats a good option.
I wanted Firewire 800 but rack raid cost is not in my price range.
I have a fibre care for my xserve and was looking at rack units.
Anyone use any of these and have good luck with it?
My Xserve software raid has needed to be rebuilt twice in 3 months for no apparent reason so I cant trust it.
Please post experience and places for me to buy these options.
    Thank you

I dont want to spend the money and buy a Xserve since this is only for mysql database and one website.
I assume you mean an XServe RAID since you already have an XServe...?
am in need of a raid 5 option for my server.
Have you considered the Hardware RAID card that is now available for the Intel XServe? It allows you to use the three internal drives as a RAID 5 array.

  • [SOLVED] how to install ArchLinux on a simple software raid 0

I have two 256GB disks and I want them to be in raid 0.
    I tried following this tutorial: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … AID_or_LVM
but this tutorial has the added complication of LVM and raid 1 which I don't need.
I made 3 partitions on each of the disks:
    sda1 - 100MB for /boot
    sda2 - 2048MB for swap
    sda3 - raid 0 md0
    sdb1 - unused
    sdb2 - 2048 for swap
    sdb3 - raid 0 md0 for /
I can assemble and format the sda1(ext4), sda2(swap), sdb2(swap)  md0 (ext4) and install all the packages
I also configured mdadm.conf by Alt F2 at the installer and executing: mdadm --examine --scan > /mnt/etc/mdadm.conf
and added mdadm hook to the HOOKS list in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf (before 'filesystems')
configured the boot with grub outside of the installer as indicated in the tutorial
But when I boot I get:
    md0: unknown partition table
Error: Unable to determine the file system of /dev/sda3
    please help.

fyi this is how I finally set up my simple 2 drive raid 0:
    1. Create a bootable USB ArchLinux with UNetBootin
    2. Boot with the USB
    3. # /arch/setup
    3. Select source: internet (highly recommended because i found out UNetBootin sources are not 100% reliable though not necessarily so, IOW just to be sure)
    3. partition the two drives with 100mb for /boot and 100mb for swap (setup requires it - I have 8GB memory, I decided I don't need much swap space) and the rest of both sda and sdb which will make your raid 0.
    4. ALT F2 to another terminal and create the the raid like this:
    # modprobe raid0 (not sure if this is actually necessary)
    # mdadm --create /dev/md0 --level=0 --raid-devices=2 /dev/sda2 /dev/sdb2
    5. go back to the setup screen with CTRL-ALT-F1
    6. go to Prepare Hard Drives>Manually configure block devices, filesystems and mountpoints. Add the /boot (ext2) for sda1 swap for sdb1 and desired filesystem for md0 (I chose reiserfs). Ignore the rest of the devices.
    7. Select packages. Add the base-devel just in case, but nothing else and install packages
    8. ALT F2 again to the  terminal and run:
    # mdamd --examine --scan > /mnt/etc/mdadm.conf
(this will configure the mdadm.conf to use your raid as created)
    9. go back to the setup screen again with CTRL-ALT-F1
    10. Select configure system
    11. Edit /etc/rc.conf adding: raid0 to MODULES= like this:
    MODULES=(raid0)
again not sure if necessary but it works for me
    12. Edit /etc/mkinitcpio.conf adding dm_mod to the MODULES= like this:
    MODULES="dm_mod"
    13. also add to /etc/mkinitcpio.conf HOOKS= mdadm but before filesystems in my case it went like this:
HOOKS="base udev autodetect pata scsi sata mdadm filesystems"
    14. I went ahead and uncommented a few mirrors in the mirrorlist file so I wouldn't have to deal with that later (and maybe it helps on the way).
    15. Also set a root password. Not sure if it is even necessary but maybe some components require it.
16, Go to configure bootloader and select Grub
    17. When asked "Do you have your system installed on software raid? answer Yes
    18. When asked to edit the menu.lst file don't edit anything, just exit
    19. When asked "Do you want to install grub to the MBR of each harddisk from your boot array? answer Yes
    20. You will get "Error: Missing/Invalid root device:" and "GRUB was NOT successfully installed." Ignore those messages.
    21. Exit the install
    22. remove the USB stick and:
    # reboot
    23. the boot will fail and you will get a grub> prompt type the following commands:
    grub> root (hd0,0)
    grub> setup (hd0)
    grub> reboot
    Thats it!

  • D20 Raid 1 setup

    Hi,
I am able to install and boot into windows when plugged into the raid ports, but when the raid is created the drive does not boot and display no operating disc found. Seems as though the raid wipes the drive. I select the primary drive 1st in the Raid creation process.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Justin

We need more information to understand what exactly your issue is.
What are "raid ports"?  D20 consists of blue ports (routed to the onboard Marvell controller) and black ports (routed to the Intel ICH legacy AHCI controller).
I think you're saying you can boot a single non-RAIDed drive plugged into the blue ports, but when you try to RAID two drives on that controller, you're not able to boot the RAID array.
-How are you creating the RAID array?  Are you using the Marvell OPROM (ctrl+m) during POST?
-Assuming you've created the RAID array correctly using the Marvell OPROM, are you then ensuring the RAID array is listed in the boot sequence?
Once the RAID array is created successfully and showing in the boot sequence, you'll still have to get an OS put on the RAID array (assuming you want the array to be the bootable partition).  Boot to your installation CD, and then provide the Marvell controller driver when prompted in order to see the array in the list of available drives.  I don't believe the Marvell drivers are native to any of the win7 installations (including the service packs) and they must be supplied manually.

  • D20 raid

    hello all and happy holidays,
a few questions - perhaps someone can help me
I have a D20 w/ three segate 15k 300 gig drives in raid 0 on the marvell sas controller, i just bought 2 new samsung 850 pro's that I want to use as the boot drives- I just found out that the intel chipest I have does not support raid, there fore I must use the marvell controller.
however, I want to use the three 15k drives in raid 0 for back up to my new SSD drives.
Short of buying a controller, can this be done?
Yes the 850's support trim and nearly every other function I can think of.
I really do not want to start my os all over- even if I could figure out a way to migrate the data to a SAMASUNG raid array via my present set up I would be happy, as I would just buy a 1tb wd black and place it on the intel controller.
I did connect to 850 pros to the other two ports on the marvell controller and created a raid 0 array, along w/ the seagate array I already have- and this did work, however, the samsung software does not see the 850 pros (shows up as a second marvell raid array) so I cant use the samsung software as it must see the samsung drive to enable their software- any ideas what to do?
I have a funny felling I am going to have to buy a hardware raid controller. in this case can anyone recomend a good unit for a reasonable price?
    thank you

well at the moment I have three 300 gb sas (900gb) 15.7k seagate drives in raid 0- via the marvell controller, and the samsung drives are 256gb each- for 512 gb raid 0, so i am well under the 2.2 tb maxium.
oddly I can create the array in the mavell raid set up, but I can not low level format them, and my computer's bios see's the drives. however, the samsung software see's the samsung raid array as marvell raid array xxx, this is why the samsung software wont work. it seems the samsung software requires the unique id information from each drive which when the raid array for the samsungs are created is not available due to some weird naming policy- it would seem.
I have this same issue with the seagate drives- they appear as marvell raid array xxx- not as seagate drives.
as well, I cant seem to format the samsung drives (when in raid)  from the marvel raid utillity, nor from the windows enviroment. as single drive they function as expected. the samsung ssd drives I am using are the new 256gb 850 pro drives.
any additional information you need i will glady make available.
thank you for your assitance, I hope we can figure this one out, as I have never ran into this sort of issue before. most mobo I have set up in the past with multiple chip sets allow for two raid set ups via each controller.

  • D20 RAID problem

    Hello,
    I've a problem with my new D20 ( 4155-21g ). I could not see the cofigured RAID 10
    The story so far...
      1. Shutdown the D20 ( Win XP 32bit preinstalled, 250 GB SATA drive ), no changes overall.
      2. Build in 4 Seagate 1,5 TB SATA-Drives.
      3. Starting the D20, ok, I can see all 5 devices.
      4. Rebooting the D20 and entering the Marvell BIOS Setup to configure a RAID 10 with the 4 Seagate Drives ( as
         described in the manual ).
      5. Starting Win XP and....only can see and access the system drive ( C:\ ).
      6. I've updated the drivers for the Marvell controller but without success.
      7. When i'm using the MRU ( Marvell Raid Utility ) i can see the system drive AND the RAID 10...but could not get
         access to the raid.
      8. The BIOS Settiings are the default ones, with SATA mode selection AHCI, Marvell SAS / SATA Controller
         enabled.
      9. I installed the WinVista 32bit from the recovery CD's on a fresh system drive : same situation.
    10. I also configured a RAID 5 : same situation.
    11. The german hotline told me to google and install the following : MIGR-72045, imo complete nonsens,
because there is a Marvell RAID Controller on board and not an INTEL Controller.
Any ideas how to solve it ?
    Many thanks in advance!

    welcome to the forum!

for SATA drives, i do believe you need to install the intel RAID driver because of how the marvell controller is integrated in the system.   if you look at MIGR-72045, the D20 is indeed listed under this driver package even though it's an ICH10 and not ICH10R chipset.
try installing it and see what happens.
if you need a copy of the marvell RAID utility manual, it can be downloaded here from intel.

  • Simple BIP Report help needed

    Hi All ,
I am bit new to BI Publisher,I have done plenty of Oracle reports 6i and 10g.
Have read the BIPublisher Guide as well, but could not understand a few points.
suppose I want to build a very very simple report like
    Sysdate Sysdate Sysdate
    16-Oct-08 16-Oct-08 16-Oct-08
step 1) I will write the following query in the Data Model and store/save it.
    select sysdate ,sysdate,sysdate from dual.
Step 2) In the layout model I want to use .rtf layout .So in the MS word .rdf document I create /insert
a table with 2 rows and 3 columns, where 1st row will have Sysdate in all 3 columns as header.
Now to fetch date 3times(the data) from the above query,WHAT is going to be my next steps ????
I am not able to understand the link between the layout(.rtf document) and XML document.
Please can someone reply to this question and let me know ?

PS If you have been doing reports for as long as you say you prob. know this already...but I NEVER* trust Oracle to convert my dates. I convert them all to char, pass them and convert them on "the other side" (if needed). But, you can change the data type to date if you feel brave, but don't say I didn't warn you. ;-)

  • Simple HTML page HELP needed

    Hi all,
    Here's my dilemma:
I've got this simple html page that I've made with
dreamweaver CS3. On the starting page I want to put a section
called "NEWS", under which there would be essentially a texfield
with the news. Now, I don't want to put the news text in the html
code. Rather, I'd like the code to somehow take this text from a
separate text file which I could edit at will and simply overwrite
on the host server so that changes are seen in browsers.
I don't need a real CMS (besides, CMS is way over my head).
Just this one text field. I've tried with the textfield/text
area/HTML object/etc. in the 'insert' tool but none worked. Can
this be done at all? Appreciate any help.

You can do this with a server-side include. The first thing
    you need to
do is to find out whether your hosting company has enabled
    server-side
includes, or if you have access to a server-side language
    such as ASP or
PHP. The way that you create a server-side include is
    slightly different
    in each type of setup.
When you have found what your remote server supports, someone
    can give
    you further instructions.
