Simple dataProvider for dataGrid question

I have a question about accessing some values from an
xmllist. I have a piece of xml that is returned from an httpservice
that looks similar to this.
<topnode>
<list>
<item>value</item>
<item>value2</item>
<item>value3</item>
</list>
</topnode>
I'm interested in creating a datagrid to display the values
of each list.item, so: value, value2, value3. I'm not sure what my
data provider should look like in this case since there are no
nodes underneath the repeating node.
I can create an xml list like:
myList = event.result.list.item
but this gives me an xmllist with values of [0].item.value,
[1].item.value etc. I'm just unsure how to setup my datagrid to
extract values from the item node.
I think if my xml looked like the following I could access it
like:
(in my httpservice result handler)
myList = event.result as XML
(the datagrid provider would look like)
dataProvider={myList.item}
(and the column would have an entry like this)
dataField="name"
<topnode>
<list>
<item>
<name>bob</name>
</item>
<item>
<name>stan</name>
</item>
<item>
<name>bill</name>
</item>
</list>
</topnode>
But in my case, the value I'm extracting is the value set at
the top level node that repeats. Maybe I'm missing something
obvious here.
Any thoughts?

Thanks again for responding. I've tried that, but when I do
all the values show up in the first row of the datagrid. Which
looks like this:
<item>value</item>
<item>value2</item>
<item>value3</item>
Perhaps I'm making an incorrect assumption below:
[Bindable]
public var myList:XMLList;
myList = event.result.list;
<mx:DataGrid dataProvider="{myList}" width="100%">
<mx:columns>
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Names"
dataField="item"/>
</mx:columns>
</mx:DataGrid>
xml from server:
<topnode>
<list>
<item>value</item>
<item>value2</item>
<item>value3</item>
</list>
</topnode>

    Data Dictionary :
    1) Diff between Append Structure and Include Structure ?
    Append Structure - This structure can be used only one time to append. Append structures are useful for standard tables.
    Include Structure - This structure can be used in multiple tables. Include structures are useful for our own custom tables.
    2) What is Table Type ?
    A table type is a type that describes the structure and functions of an internal table in the ABAP program. In simple words table table will act as an internal table without header line.
    3) How the table entries are going to store, Is it Case sensitive, or in Capital Letter or in Small letter or as we give ?
    Yes it is case sensitive.
    Use translate statement to convert Upper case or Lower case.
    4) How many indexes we can give for a table ?
    1 primary index automatically created and we can create up to 15 secondary indexes.
    Reports :
    1) How can we enable the verticle scroll in a table control that comes in 2 nd screen of ME 21 T.code ?
    set <tablecontrol>-lines = 0.this code you have to put in one suitable userexit.then it applies to standard tcode ME21N.
    2) What is BSEG table ?
    BSEG table is a FI table for Accounting Document details.
    3) How can you create Table Control ?
    controls : tabcont type tableview using screen '3000'.
    PROCESS AFTER INPUT
    MODULE mod AT EXIT-COMMAND.
    LOOP AT itab_table or LOOP "depending on whether we are using AT int_table
    MODULE modify_int_table.
    ENDLOOP.
    MODULE user_command.
    4) Diff between At Selection Screen on Field & At selection Screen Output ?
    AT-SELECTION SCREEN ON FIELD
    is to validate a particular selection screen field.
    if any error comes it will open only this field and other fields will be disabled.
    AT-SELECTION SCREEN OUTPUT
    is used to do dynamic screen modifications on the screen.
    5) What are things we need to take care before using the Read Statement ?Example of Read Statement with Index ?
    do sort before read data from table.
    6) How many ways are there to select a Particular Data from the table ?

    6) what are the parameters you will pass withine BDC_INSERT ?
    TCODE-import parameter
    DYNPROTAB-tables parameter
    SAP- Script :
    1) I want to display quantity & Price based on Particular Language and Country in SAP Script , How we can do that ?
    One particular statement is there for that, What is that ?
    Actually u will get quantity and price based on language using SE63 transaction.it is used for language conversion.
    2) The Logo Upaloaded got Inverted , then How you are going to handle this situation ?
    just check the printer settings again.
    3) The logo uploaded using RSTXLDMC programe, Where it is going to store ?
    STXBITMAPS is the table which stores all the logos.
    4) can we see Tiff files in SE 78 T.code ? What are the file extension of Logo we can upload to SAP
    No we cannot upload .tiff files using SE78 ..here u can upload only bmp and jpg logos...if u want to upload .tiff files go to standard program RSTXLDMC..by using this you can do.
    5) How to check the changes made in the standard layout set , other than using Utilities--- -> Print preveiw ?
    by executing the formprogram.
    User Exit :
    1) Suppose i have used a fuction Module Exit, But is in Inactive status , What is The error it is going to give during runtime ?
    u didn't get any error message but that functionality cannot applied to it..thats it.
    2) Suppose i want to delete the Function Module exit from one project and i want to use it for another project ? what are steps you follow to delete it ?
    first go to that perticular project..within this u have one enhancement..just click on that one...and go to that function module which u are assigned..remove the code and activate..delete enhancement and activate that project..now u can use that enhancement in other projects.
    BADI
    1) Is that all the Predefined BADI's present in SAP are reusable ?
    here reusable means u can do multiple implementations for all BADI's.
    Rewards if it helpful.

  • Why no simple method for reading text files

    I'd like to know, after all this time why there is no simple method of reading ext files into a string.
    Yes, yes, I know all about buffered readers, (it took me long enough to figure them out) but they are cumbersome and seem to change every release (how many file methods have been deprecated...)
    Here's what I'm looking for:
    file.open();
    file.read(String);
    file.close();
    No single character at a time, no loop - the whole file into a single string in one shot. If buffers are used, i want it hidden.
    Perl, PHP, VB, C# all have this. Even Java has it when you write to a file.
    So why not on read?
    Yes, buffered streams are very elegant, but for what most programmers want to do, they are overkill and annoying.

    Just Dennis Ritchie's little joke.
    Do you have a better reason for wanting the feature
    other than that some other languages have it?Yes. It would save me time and help dozens of new programmers who continually ask this question in this and other forums. It is in other languages because people use it and want it - clearly Jarkata saw the need. If you don't like the idea, then I won't argue the point. We agree to disagree.
    Also did you have an answer for my question?in java.io.file you can do the following: (i've used it, it works) Granted, you still have to use the buffered output streams, which in my opinion should be abstracted for a simple text read and write.
    BufferedWriter outputStream = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(fileNewPath));
    outputStream.write(fileContent);
    outputStream.close();

  • Complex database display for Datagrid

    Hi to all,
    I am new to Flex (& Web GUI design).
    I am trying (unsuccessfully) to develop a display that
    monitors the condition of items at different locations in the form
    of a datagrid.
    The database system provided to me basically use a
    "many-to-many" relationship to store the data:
    1. Table Item: item_id
    2. Table Appl: appl_id, location_name
    3. Item-Appl Mapping Table: maps item_id to appl_id
    Basically, 1 item is being monitored by several Appl at
    different locations; while 1 Appl can also monitor multiple Items.
    In my design, I have to continously query the database to
    obtain the current condition of the Item, where I try to obtain the
    following information:
    Notification table: item_id, Appl_id, Time, Type
    ; where Type indicates the change in the Item (item_id)
    condition at location (Appl_id).
    Based on this query, i need to update the item status on the
    Datagrid
    The main issue here is:
    1. How do I design the dataProvider for the dataGrid (Item vs
    Location)
    - I have to dynamically create the dataGrid Column since the
    location can be dynamically changed/added/removed from the
    database.
    My dataGrid should look like this :
    Item "A" "B" "C"
    M X O O
    N O O X
    R O O O
    "A","B", "C" are Location names; which are user-inputs &
    I do not have any information about it beforehand. I have to obtain
    this locations from the location_name in Appl Table.
    The X,O indicates the condition of the Item.
    Has anyone done something similar to this before & point
    me to the right direction?
    Many thanks,
    Regards,
    hy

    Hi,
    Very much thanks for the reply.
    In my case, more than 1 Appl can monitor 1 item at same
    location (which can be a big hierarchy of places:
    A->AA->AAA).
    E.g.: Appl #1 monitor Item M at Location A.AA & Appl #2
    monitor Item M at Location A.AB. I need to display the overall
    result for Location A (Location A.AA and A.AB)
    This means that I need to store the result 1st somewhere in
    my cache & then do some post-query processing to obtain my
    final result.
    What would be the best arrangement to store this data &
    how can I set it as my dataProvider to the dataGrid?
    Thank you very much.
    Regards,
    hy

  • Tooltip for datagrid's cells

    I know how to create a tooltip for datagrid and/or its
    columns. Is it possible to create a tooltip (or something similar)
    for each cell? So whenever the mouse is over a certain cell, a tip
    would be shown for that cell that depends on the value of the cell.
    Similar functionality can often be seen in web-based database apps:
    an Ajax query gets related data from a database on mouseOver.
    My need and idea is to
    - show a simple text list as a tooltip
    - the text would be fetched from a database via a web service
    - the fetch would be based on datagrid's (hidden) rowid and
    each column's (hidden) column id (which are real database columns)
    - the database structure is an n:m relation i.e. one
    rowid+colid can refer to several items that are then used in the
    tooltip
    Use case: A number is displayed in the datagrid. The need is
    to display 0-n references related to that specific figure (e.g.
    book names, notes etc) in the tooltip. Next cell's tooltip would be
    showing different references.
    Anybody any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

    Hi,
    Did you try creating a custom itemRenderer and handling the
    mouse events for that item renderer component. There is also a
    property called dataTipFunction, please check that too.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using xml as dataProvider for chart

    I am trying to use a loaded xml as the dataProvider for a pie chart like this
    <mx:PieChart id="pieChart"
                         dataProvider="{get_xml.lastResult.AssetAllocationFunds.fund[0].target_allocation}">
    This works, but gives a warning that
    "Data binding will not be able to detect changes when using the square bracket operator. For Array, please use ArrayCollection.getItemAt() instead."
    Can someone give me some direction on how to implement this.
    Thanks.

    So that solution I posted up wasn't going to work for what I needed.
    Basically, the "itemRollOver" and "itemClick" that work for the pie chart when hard coded on the main application don't work when embedded in a custom class that extends the PieChart. I haven't been able to figure out why.
    However, I did get the syntax for targeting ArrayCollection.getItemAt() worked out.
    Here is a simple example.
    Hope it helps others.

  • Filtering XMLList used for DataGrid

    I'm using an HTTPService to load a database table into an
    XMLList, which is then used as the dataProvider for a dataGrid. I
    can't find anything online for filtering this datagrid , i can only
    find stuff for filtering using an ArrayCollection, can someone help
    me? I'd prefer not to have to send HTTPService requests back and
    forth for filter the datagrid, I'd rather just filter the XMLList
    that was loaded at the start of the application

  • DataProvider for each DataGridColumn

    Hi, all
    How can I give a dataProvider for each DataGridColumn?
    Because I have an arrayCollection with arrays and each array will
    be assigned to one dataGridColumn. But the problem is the value of
    dataField are the same for all columns, so at the end I only got
    the values from the last array for the whole dataGrid. By the way
    the number of columns depends on the length of the arrayCollection
    and it is dynamic.
    How can I write a custom DataGridColumn for it?
    Anybody got any ideas?
    Thank you very much.

    I'm pasting the code I used. That's the best I can do for
    you.
    First is the main application:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="
    http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
    layout="absolute">
    <mx:Script>
    <![CDATA[
    import mx.collections.ArrayCollection;
    private function mouseIn( event:MouseEvent ) : void
    trace("In: target="+event.target+";
    current="+event.currentTarget+"; related="+event.relatedObject);
    if( event.relatedObject == box.parent ) {
    b1.visible = true;
    b2.visible = true;
    private function mouseOut( event:MouseEvent ) : void
    trace("out: target="+event.target+";
    current="+event.currentTarget+"; related="+event.relatedObject);
    if( event.relatedObject == box.parent ) {
    b1.visible = false;
    b2.visible = false;
    [Bindable] private var dp:ArrayCollection = new
    ArrayCollection(
    [ [1,2,3,4], [10,20,30,40], [100,200,300,400] ]);
    ]]>
    </mx:Script>
    <mx:VBox id="box" x="43" y="45" width="300" height="185"
    horizontalAlign="center"
    mouseOver="mouseIn(event)"
    mouseOut="mouseOut(event)"
    backgroundColor="#804040" verticalAlign="middle">
    <mx:Button width="127" height="97" />
    <mx:Button label="Button 1" id="b1" visible="false"/>
    <mx:Button label="Button 2" id="b2" visible="false"/>
    </mx:VBox>
    <mx:DateChooser
    selectableRange="{{rangeStart : new Date(2000,0,1),rangeEnd
    : new Date()}}"
    id="dateChoose" showToday="false"/>
    <mx:DataGrid x="163" y="292" height="179" width="326"
    dataProvider="{dp}">
    <mx:columns>
    <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Column 1" dataField="col1"
    itemRenderer="components.forums.ArrayItemRenderer"/>
    <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Column 2" dataField="col2"
    itemRenderer="components.forums.ArrayItemRenderer"/>
    <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Column 3" dataField="col3"
    itemRenderer="components.forums.ArrayItemRenderer"/>
    </mx:columns>
    </mx:DataGrid>
    </mx:Application>
    This is the item renderer code:
    package components.forums
    import mx.controls.Text;
    import mx.collections.ArrayCollection;
    import mx.controls.DataGrid;
    public class ArrayItemRenderer extends Text
    public function ArrayItemRenderer()
    super();
    override protected function
    updateDisplayList(unscaledWidth:Number, unscaledHeight:Number):void
    super.updateDisplayList(unscaledWidth, unscaledHeight);
    if( data )
    var dp:ArrayCollection = (listData.owner as
    DataGrid).dataProvider as ArrayCollection;
    var colIndex:int = listData.columnIndex;
    var rowIndex:int = listData.rowIndex;
    var colArray:Array = dp.getItemAt(colIndex) as Array;
    text = String(colArray[rowIndex-1]);
    else text = "";

  • Quick poll functionality for 10 questions

    Hi SDN Guru's,
    I have seen quick poll functionality for one question followed by answers,
    but i have a reauirement to have instant survey of 5 or 10 questions and get the poll is this possible with the current quickpoll if not how can we do that.
    please provide suggestions , alternatives workarounds
    Thanks in advance,
    Murali

    Hi,
       Quick Poll as name suggests is for simple and faster polls. So by default, it is meant to have one question only.
    1) If you want many questions, then you may have to create some JSP application for it and make it an iView.
    2) There is also option for using many campaigns, each campaign for each question. That way all the questions will be visible at the same time. But I'll not suggest it if all questions are based on same topic. In that case, only custom application will be better.
