Simple definitions of terms

I am new to OBIEE and am trying to understand the blogs, etc. that I read. I only work with the front-end of OBIEE so I am not as familiar with the back-end. Would someone please give a simple definition of the difference between the Presentation Layer, Business Model Layer, and Physical (Logical?) Layer. I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Tese are Administration Tool User Interface Components.
Physical layer. Represents the physical structure of the data sources to which the Oracle BI Server submits queries. This layer is displayed in the right pane of the Administration Tool.
Business Model and Mapping layer. Represents the logical structure of the information in the repository. The business models contain logical columns arranged in logical tables, logical joins, and dimensional hierarchy definitions. This layer also contains the mappings from the logical columns to the source data in the Physical layer. It is displayed in the middle pane of the Administration Tool.
Presentation layer. Represents the presentation structure of the repository. This layer allows you to present a view different from the Business Model and Mapping layer to users. It is displayed in the left pane of the Administration Tool.
See the Oracle Business Intelligence Server Administration Guide for more details

  • DEFINITIONS OF TERMS UNABLE TO FUNCTION IN ALL DOCUMENT OR NOTE.

WHY IS IT THAT THE NEW UPDATE ios7 CANNOT DEFINE WORDS ANYMORE IN THE "NOTE" "KEYNOTE" OR ANY BOOKS YOU WANT. ANYONE EXPERIENCE THIS? HOW CAN I RESTORE THE DEFINITIONS OF TERMS PLEASE.
NOTE: APPLE OWNER CAN YOU PLEASE FIX THIS BUG ESPECIALLY WITH THE DEVELOPER OF THIS NEW UPDATE IT'S REALLY DEVASTATING.

CDHDR and CDPOS will not be populated with entries only by creating the change document object.Change documents will be written to CDHDR and CDPOS tables only if the function zbudgets_write_document is called in the transaction which updates FMIT.
You need to find an use exit in the transaction updating FMIT and call the function zbudgets_write_document in that exit.

  • Definition of terms

Excuse me but I am new to video editing and have basic questions
    1. Where can I find a definition of terms used;  anamorphic, pixel aspect ratio for video, stills. I have tried google and the explainations are not pertinent to this program or so involved that I have trouble understanding how it applies.
Currently I am trying to determine what sequence settings are applicable for my footage.
    thanks
    Kent

    Eddie,
Neat! I always thought that the manual should have had a full glossary. Thanks for posting the link.
Even with a degree in cinematography, I had to learn a new language, just so I could use Help and ask questions here.
    To the OP,
If the printed manual is still shipped with PrPro, I'd recommend reading it cover to cover, and then many of the terms will start to make sense. It took me two readings for some of it to sink in. I still use it for things that went over my head on both readings, and some years of working with the program. Learning these terms, as you wish to do, will help everywhere, especially in the fora, so that everyone is "on the same page." That's one reason that I use capitalization for terms that are used in PrPro, when posting.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Definitions of terms

    Hi All,
new to BW. Just getting confused with terms
    Fiscal Year Variant
    Fiscal year
    Fiscal year/period
    Posting period
Can anyone spare some time pls and explain.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Raksha,
    Welcome to SDN
Refer to the below message link for info on the same
    Re: SEM BPS
To make things clear with an example,
say if a document was posted on 12-Jan-2006.
If the Fiscal Year Variant was K4 which corresponds to the calendar year then
    Fiscal year 2006
    Fiscal year/period 001.2006
    Posting period 001
but if the Fiscal Year Variant was V3 which is from April to March next year then
    Fiscal year 2005
    Fiscal year/period 010.2005
    Posting period 010
    Hope it helps.

  • Definition of Terms on Adobe Learning Dashboard

What is the difference between a learner status of "In Progress" and "Incomplete?"
What causes a learner to be defined as "Needs Intervention?"
In my experience/test run, a learner who is in the process of taking the course (actively has it loaded and is going through) is concurrently defined as "Incomplete" and "Needs Intervention" which seems odd to me, since that learner just launched the course and is in the process of taking it.
    Thanks for any insights!

    These are 2 different aspects,
learner status as "In Progress" and "Incomplete" is shown module wise
and "In Progress" and "Needs Intervention" is shown as per status of full course
Please find the details of both below:
Following is difference between "In Progress" and "Incomplete": (in reference with Students ->Group Graph)
    - If the user takes the module before Delay date and has not completed it yet - User will fall in "In Progress" group
    - If the learner visits module after delay date and the module does not complete the module he will fall in "Incomplete" group
    - If learner never visits the module after delay date he will remain in "In Progress" group
Need Inetrvention criteria is set while creating the course by switching on/off the options of "Low Participation" "Quiz Fail" and "Incomplete"
Following is difference between "In Progress" and "Needs Intervention": (in reference with Overview -> Student Progress Graph)
    - All students who have not completed the course before Needs Intervention date are in "In Progress" group
    - All students who did not complete atleast one module before Needs Intervention date but visits any module of the course after Needs Intervention date are moved to "Needs Intervention" group
    - All students who did not complete atleast one module before Needs Intervention date and does not visit any module of the course after Needs Intervention date remain in "In Progress" group
I hope this answer clears the query!

  • APO DP Anyone have a simple definition of each Forecast Formula?

I went to the SAP online manual, but those formulas are complex.  Does anyone have a document that lists each formula and a brief general description of what it does?  Iu2019d be truly thankful for any help!

    Hi Dan,
I am not sure which documentation you saw.
Below is good one and self explanatory

  • SQL Data Modeler Terms and Definitions

    Hello All,
I am new to using the SQL Data Modeler and I was wondering if someone could point me to a list of definitions of terms that are used throughout the SQL Data Modeler interface. The help documentation does not seem to define most of the terms that are used in the product.
    Thanks in advance,
    Craig

The Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler help and the Data Modeler User's Guide, which shares content with the help, don't contain a glossary or list of terms. If the terms you're looking for are Oracle Database terms (such as definitions of tables and other database objects), the SQL Developer help and its user's guide do include brief definitions (in the Database Objects topic).
For other kinds of terms, the Data Modeler help does point to the Object Management Group (OMG) site, and perhaps the OMG Terms and Acronyms page ( http://www.omg.org/gettingstarted/terms_and_acronyms.htm) might help you. However, there's no guarantee that those definitions will completely apply to the Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler tool.
For definitions or explanations of specific terms of interest, I recommend searching for (or using the Table of Contents to find) the relevant topics. You can also ask about specific terms or about terms in general in the Data Modeler discussion forum: SQL Developer Data Modeler forum: SQL Developer Data Modeler

  • Simple State Machine Vs Queued State Machine

    Using LV2009 + WIN7+Pentium 4 @ 2.5Ghz with 3 GB RAM.
I have a machine control code inside a 10mS main loop that has 7 ( yes seven ) Queued State Machines (  QSM) and I find the  Finished Late boolen keeeps poppping often. Not a very good sign if you ask me.
And the code itself does not have too much of computation or FP activity. But it has four Graphs with one plot on each of them. These are updated once every 10ms. Can slowing this update ( say once every 250ms ? ) help ?
A simple query : In terms of performance overhead, does a QSM  demand more than a  Simple State Machine ( SSM ) ? Can I avoid the Finished Late warning by switching over to SSM at least in three of the cases out of the seven ?
    Thanks

I think your question demonstrates my point.  Unfortunately, I don't have a good example to point you to and don't have the time to write one.  I will try to explain better.  Let's take a simple example - a landscape watering controller (sprinkler controller).  This controller will have several states (e.g. initializing, waiting, watering, closing). Each of these states will accept several commands, but not all commands are accepted in all states.  For example, if the system is watering, a command to start watering could be ignored.
In most programs, at least some states should be interruptible.  For example, if it starts to rain, the watering system should stop watering immediately instead of watering for a set length of time.  However, if the system is in the initialization state, this will probably not be interruptible (but also short).
As you said, the classic LabVIEW way to implement such a thing is to have a case statement to represent the state, and a case statement (usually queue driven) in each state frame to handle the commands.  You thus have a loop with a double case structure.  This can get somewhat unwieldy for large programs.  Note that which case structure represents what will be determined by the relative number of each item. For example, if you have fifty commands and three states, the state should go into the command case.
So how do LabVIEW classes help?  They can eliminate one or both levels of these case structures through the use of dynamic dispatch.  This is done as follows.  A parent class is created that is a generic command.  It has commands for each state.  For each actual command, a class is derived from the parent class.  There are VIs in the specific command class for each state.  A command is generated by creating the correct object for the current state, then calling the parent class command.  Dynamic dispatch will execute the code for the correct command.  The command execution loop is then reduced to a single command VI which dynamically dispatches based on the actual command and the current state.
In practice, things as usually not quite this simple, and you may want different cases for either different commands or different states so that you can change the connector pane of the dynamically dispatched VI as needed.  Look up the LabVIEW examples on dynamic dispatch to see this in action.
I am afraid I have still not made myself clear.  Keep asking questions and I will try to keep answering.

  • Adapter Definition

Whats the Simple Definition of an Adapter?
(When I say an adapter is a connector which is used to Translate from one format to the XI readable format or Vice Versa, then I am faced with another question then why we need a message Mapping?)
    Thanks.

    Hi,
<i>(When I say an adapter is a connector which is used to Translate from one format to the XI readable format or Vice Versa, then I am faced with another question then why we need a message Mapping?)</i>
You said <i>"When I say an adapter is a connector which is used to Translate from one format to the XI readable format or Vice Versa,"</i> so its in just readable format how about the structure... The target system might need in different structure.
    For Eg:
You have a file like this
    FName, LName, Company, Job

    My target system expects
    Name, Company
The function of the adapter is to convert the input into XML format like <Fname>Prakash</Fname> and so on..
But Mapping program converts into target structure
<Name>Prakash Arunachalam</Name> concatenates Fname and Lname and assign it to Name and so on.
Then the receiver adapter will convert this XML into target system format.
This is just a simple example there are many complex scenarios.
    Thanks,
    Prakash

  • Simple Method/Object Concept Question

I really appreciate everyone's help! Thanks you. I know that for action to take place in Java objects, blocks of code called methods are used. Methods tell an application what to do when buttons are clicked, menus are opened, and text is typed. Methods are either predefined or are created from scratch to manipulate objects, or the data within those objects, but what does the data type identifier that is attached to java methods mean? What is the data type identifier?
Also, what are the major components of an object? I know objects are based on classes that detail how the object is defined and how it behaves. It is starting to click, but I need more explanation. Thanks a lot
    Stephen

The datatype of the method represents the datatype of the value returned or void if nothing is retured. Consider the following: int getAge() In this case, the method getAge() will return a value that is an integer. If the method does not return a value, void is used as in the following line:void setAge(int age)As far as the "major parts of an object", well there can be many answers to that. One answer comes from the simple definition of an Object, i.e., "data surrounded by code". In other words, an object is a person, place or thing (or process). The object has sate (data about itself) and it has behavior (code or methods). In that respect, the major parts of an object, in it's simplest form, are it's state (member variables) and it's behavior (member functions/methods).
    Hope this helps.

  • What is a dynamic join in SAP HANA?

What is a dynamic join in SAP HANA and how it works? Please explain me with the example , how to use it?
Message was edited by: Tom Flanagan

    Hi Sree,
In very simple and basic terms:
If you have table A and B with columns C1, C2, and C3 used in multi-column join (with Dynamic join set to true) from both the tables, then depending upon which columns you select in the query, ONLY those columns will be used in the join.
For ex. if you select C1, C2 in the select statement, then the join will happen only on C1 and C2, C3 will not be used in the join criteria, even if the join definition involves all the 3 columns.

  • Is it too much to ask for Apple to explain the content of the Console?

I've asked for definitions of terms for years now ... defintions of console terms and phrases such as the following example, each of which may well relate, in terms of the components and the Consoles ref to their "loading", to the ongoing, sophistcated penentration that manages to deinstall my ESET firewall and screw up desktop components across the board. None of third-party malware products have ever found a "threat" on my system, but the malicious activity continues. '
Unfortunately Apple long ago decided against helping their customers with the UNIX-based Mac, pretending to the world that new OS X Macs were as simple use as System 9 Macs, and just as secure. LOL. What a lie.
Apple exploits its reputation for not documenting its products by continuing to not document their products. Apple also continues to imply in all sorts of ways that a Mac is the most secure platform on the planet, ignoring the fact that its Firewall is a joke because, among other things, its "safest" setting — Block All Incoming Traffic — lets Bonjour traffic in, as if it or its Windows twin ZeroConfig are safe when in truth Bonjour is a massive back door that is almost impossible to shut off.
WHY DOESN'T APPLE DEFINE ITS CONSOLE MESSAGES, ESPECIALLY THOSE REPORTING ON COMPONENTS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE DISABLED, SUCH AS ACTIVE DIRECTORY, WHICH HACKERS LIKE TO USE TO SET UP SHAM DHCP SERVERS?
WHAT DOES THIS MESSAGE MEAN? Plugin "Active Directory", Version "6.5.1", is set to load lazily.
Since I have the bad luck of being targeted, and since I know Active Directory represents a huge security hole unless it is used in a controlled environment (i.e., and office the infrastracture of which is used by IT staff to secure its at-work network), I know I don't want mdsresponder guiding a sham server through a firewall's "maximum security" setting.
SO, I SHOUT THIS QUESTION INTO APPLE'S ECHOING VOID: IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR A DEFINITION FOR: Is set to load lazily"?
Is there anyone with integrity left at Apple, or did they all leave when Bonjour was introduced?

Hi, as far as I can infer, that term means it's not loading any resources until needed, opposite of this...
    -bind_at_load
Sets a bit in the mach header of the resulting binary which tells dyld to bind all symbols                when the binary is loaded, rather than lazily.
    https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/ man1/ld.1.html
    Load resources lazily.
You should never load a resource file until it is actually needed. Prefetching resource files may seem like a way to save time, but this practice actually slows down your app right away. In addition, if you end up not using the resource, loading it wastes memory for no good purpose.

And, higher OS versionsare even worse with Bonjour/mDNSResponder, but might see this...

  • Wrappers

Looks like XMLBeans is very powerful and elegant technology for "correct"
XML handling that has no equivalent competitor today. It's strange that so
many people ask what is difference from JDOM/DOM/SAX/Castor etc...
    Questions:
    1. The wrappers that implement XSD-derived interfaces seem to be built
dynamically from magic .xsb files. What motivated this architectural
decision (versus generating java/class files) ?
    2. What is the performance difference (parsing speed, memory usage, number
of objects) between using generated strongly-typed wrappers vs. using
    provided XmlObject type hierarchy ?
    thanks

What is a wrapper class? I guess I'm just looking for a broad, yet simple definition with a illustrative example. You posted a broad yet simple definition in your original post and claimed you didn't understand it. (I like examples too.)
Sorry if that is quite demanding. I came across the term as I was reading about Java I/O for the first time, and I have done some other reading, but I think it is always best to hear it from the perspective of a programmer in a practical context as opposed to a dictionary or a wikipedia article (no offense to you wikifanatics out there). The definition you posted sounds like the Facade pattern to me. I tend to think of the Decorator pattern as being wrappers, and I wouldn't have given the definition you posted at all. And I suspect you were reading about the Decorator pattern in that tutorial, too. A ZipOutputStream can wrap any kind of OutputStream, but generally it isn't simpler than them. In fact often it's more complex. So perhaps it's just one of those terms that different people use for different things.

  • Dedicated Server against Shared Server

I have a server on which we have installed several clients database isntances. Recently there were several performance issue for one of the client at which time I heard that was becasue of their instance is an shared server and if make it dedicated the performance will improve. How do you find out whether an instance running on a particular box is a dedicated server connection or shared server connection. What is the definition of those in simple lay mans terms. How do you change a shared connection to dedicated connection and vice versa? Does it depend on the memory/cpu size etc. Any help is higly appreciated.
