Simple dotted line?

I have stroke chosen. I have dotted chosen, this is in CS4. I chose rounded caps. I chose 1 pt stroke and 1 pt gap with stroke 1 pt. I use the pen tool or the line segment tool and draw it. No dotted line. I try selecting it. I only get a regular line. I really can't figure it out. The line segment or pen tool doesn't see the setting. Why does it have dash gap dash gap dash gap 3 times? So you can change the pattern. I only want........................... just like that.

First you go to the appearance panel and there is a fly out menu from the upper right make sure that New Art Has Basic Appearance is unchecked.
Then the first thing you should understand is that one point is very fine and at fit to screen magnification you might not see the dotted line with the specs you have stated.
Then to understand how to make dot with the dash option might not sound at first logical to you but it actually is logical.
You choose the round end cap as you did but you only need to end caps to make a dot so you simply give it a dash of "0".
That means you have to give more than 1 pt gap and the round end points extend beyond the end point of each dash a .5 pt on each side leaving no real gap so the setting has to be 2 pt.
If you gave it a stroke of two then the end caps are still "0" but the gap is 4pt.

Are you using the brush tool? You can adjust spacing in the brush properties dialog.

[CS] Basic brushes create dotted lines instead of solid

I just received an almost-new Wacom CTL-470 tablet from my father yesterday, so naturally I began fooling around with Photoshop line drawings and simple art.
The initial problem I discovered was that, oddly enough, the basic brush tools, when dragged, would not create a solid line. It would only create a dotted line, the spaces between dots varying with speed of the pen against the tablet.
If I dragged the pen slowly enough (very... very slowly), it would create a kind of shaky line, which was just dots very close together.
Naturally I thought it was the tablet's fault, but upon trying to use the mouse to do the same function, the problem persisted.
I use Photoshop CS and I didn't change any settings at all today.
I have some things that friends wanted me to do for them, and this problem is starting to irritate me as I have no idea where it came from or how to get rid of it.
I would also like to know how I can use my tablet to create a tapering effect with my pen pressure. The "pen pressure" setting in the Brushes menu seemed to have no effect.
I have never experienced this problem before and I would like help as soon as possible. Thank you so much in advance.
Here's an example of the issue, both in large brushes and a smaller one in the background.

Look under Brush Tip Shape and look at the spacing settings or that spacing is not unchecked. (the default spacing is usually 25%)
For tapered strokes set the Size Jitter under Shape Dynamics to Pen Pressure, then the size varies depending on how hard you press the pen on the tablet.

Matrix is only for maintanencepurpose of the org structure already created using other interfaces like simple maintanence,general structure,export mode, and organizing and staffing.
but u can change that is create new reporting structure etc.
goto Matrix structure change mode-
pich matrix mode. take standard or matrix type
in te next screen give the objects that u want to appear in horizantal and next give objects to appear in vertical column.
after execute in that screen u can create the multiple relation or dlete the relationships etc

Weird dotted lines and freez-ups

Hello everyone,
I've got QuickSilver PM dual G4 1GHz, a couple of days ago it started acting really weird.
After wake-up and sometimes on fresh reboot, some kind of dotted lines would appear at random places on the screen, interface elements would get distorted and after few minutes beachball would appear as well, rendering system unusable. Mouse pointer would still be active/movable, but nothing will be clickable. If I leave it like that long enough, Kernel Panic message would appear eventually.
I tried to re-install system, clean install, reset PRAM, wipe disk clean and install. All updates are installed as well. Running 10.4.5 right now, as I suspected 10.4.6 update of causing this, but that wasn't the case.
Apple hardware tests reports "passed" on all counts.
I even tried with new user, thinking that my user data could be corrupt. But nothing helps.
I haven't installed any new hardware recently, so I don't think that's the problem.
Anyone else having similar problems?
Or have some new ideas what could be causing this?
And ofcourse, maybe know, how to fix it?

Sorry to hear you had to buy a new Mac, prior to getting your older Mac fixed. There are a couple of simple things you could try, maybe you already did.
A co-worker had a problem with a G4 that would give weird screen fonts and colors. Despite having the IT dept come look at it, nothing was solved. Turned out to be the cable connector from the monitor to the back of the Mac was either a bit loose (not noticeably) or had some dust in it. Unplugging that connector, blowing it off and reconnecting it solved the problem.
Another thing you could look at is the PRAM battery. I know that in the Beige G3's, this battery can cause a host range of wierd symptoms. I have a friend who originally had a pre-Beige Mac (PM7300 or similar) that wouldn't boot, assumed it was dead and bought a Beige G3. Turns out that the PRAM battery was dead in the PM7300. My Beige G3 would randomly shut down and refuse to boot when it's PRAM battery went dead.
The battery is cheap (like $5-10) and should be relatively easy to replace. I wasn't able to find a logic board layout for the Quicksilver, but most of the Macs seem to have the battery located near the PCI/AGP slots. Here's a pic of the battery from OWC:

Once you've replaced the battery, if your G4 has any sort of cuda or PMU button (a button located on the logic board that does a complete reset), depress this button for about 10-15 seconds and try rebooting the machine.
Upon doing those two things (I'd try them first), it sometimes helps to get inside the Mac and reseat all the RAM, cards, etc (I wouldn't mess with the cpu, unless you've recently taken it out or upgraded it). Look for dust, bent pins, anything abnormal. Put everything back in order, do a reset (logic board button) and reboot.

When browsing a new library that I created and exported onto an external hard drive, the browser shows dotted lines around grey rectangles, no images. When I double click on a rectangle, the image appears, but all the other rectangles remain empty - no image. How do I get images to appear in the browser rectangles? I am viewing this on a second computer (an older intel duo iMac), not the one I created the library on (a MacBook Pro). Both computers have Aperture 3.2.4 installed. When I return the external to the MacBook, all images appear in browser rectangles. What's happening on the iMac?

You may have a problem with the permissions on your external volume. Probably you are not the owner of your library on the second mac.
If you have not already done so, set the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" flag on your external volume. To do this, select the volume in the Finder and use the Finder command "File > Get Info" (or ⌘I).
In the "Get Info" panel disclose the "Sharing & Permissions" brick, open the padlock, and enable the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" flag. You will have to authentificate as administrator to do this.
Then run the "Aperture Library First Aid Tools" on this library and repair the permissions. To launch the "First Aid Tools" hold down the ⌥⌘-key combination while you double click your Aperture Library. Select "Repair Permissions" and run the repair; then repeat with "Repair Database". Do this on the omputer where you created the library and where you can see the thumbnails.
Then check, if you now are able to read the library properly on your iMac.

How do I get rid of the dotted line on right side of bounding box

Ever since I upgraded to CS5, I seem to have a broken dotted line along the right side of the bounding box of the png logo that was created for my company. It wasn't there before. I've gone back to my original back up of the logo and this broken line is in all the versions now.
Whenever I use the artwork a single dash/dotted line is left on the far right, where the right vertical line of the bounding box would have been. You can see it in the image below on the right. Its a faint white line but when printed on a banner its stark white. The line falls just above the last "A" in Alberta.
I can use Illustrator and Photoshop basics and but have trouble when I get into problems like this.
Can anyone help me figure out why its there and how to get rid of it?

Wade, it hit me when you asked "why is it a png" file and I realized that I was using the wrong file. Sometimes its hard to see the forest for the trees! Problem for banner artwork fixed and I have now used the correct logo file so no more dotted line.
The dotted line only appears on the the png version of the logo. There's no coloured background on the logo file. She gave me the file as both an eps and a png file. I'm pretty sure she created the logo in Illustrator. I've been using the png file for the website, which is what I thought it worked well for. And the eps one for my print materials.
I have no clue why I grabbed the png instead of the eps logo file I usually use, but thanks for pointing out the obvious since I wasted time trying to fix it and was getting very frustrated at what had suddenly gone "wrong".
I still have that dotted line on the png file of the logo but I'll have to figure that out another day.

Acrobat X: Option to hide the dotted line in between pages when viewing in 2 page view?

Acrobat X: Anyone know if there is an option to hide the dotted line in between pages when viewing in 2 page view? So that the 2 pages can look seemlessly joined, with no gap and no dotted line? This would be useful when viewing PDF magazines or books in which 2 pages join for a larger picture.

I've figured out how to make a dashed line (under Stroke), but how do I make a dotted line? Little round circles, one after the other that I can resize, turn into a circle, stick to a path?

The string of pearls was done on CS2
The orange "pearls" had a stroke weight of 40 pt, Dash 0, Gap 42 and a new black stroke behind with a weight of 42 pt.
Then the stroke was copied, coloured just white and moved a bit to make the white "highlights". Weight 10 pt, Dash 0, Gap 42.
I suppose, if one could be bothered, it would be possible to make a string of pearls with alternating big and small pearls by using a combination of dash settings on New Strokes. Should work all right as long as the Dash is a constant or an exact multiple. I can't be bothered!
I don't understand that bit about having the last gap as 0. The pearls came out fine with just one setting for the dash and one for the gap. The other boxes weren't filled in.

Copy Excel Chart into Illustrator: Problem with dotted lines

Copying an excel chart (2010 and/or 2013, Windows 7 Ultimate) to Illustrator CS6 works okay if line chart lines are solid... but if they are dotted, then in Excel 2010, the dotted line becomes jumbled, and in Excel 2013, the dotted line converts to a solid line... is the only solution to this to save the exel chart as a pdf, or is there another workaround?
Essentially, I am creating a chart in excel and adding a few notations and graphic elements in illustrator for professional publishing...
any help would be appreciated... thanks

I finally broke down and bought a MacBook Pro, installed CS6 and Office 2011... and voilà... dotted lines copy from excel to illustrator just perfectly... this is a bit like copying data from Visio to Word, etc... these programs render graphics in very different ways... other than the Mac solution, I also tried the Libre Suite (open source)... which also worked perfectly to copy excel data with dotted lines to illustrator... so, until MS and Adobe actually collaborate together to provide value to its customers, the alternative seems (1) open source, (2) buy a Mac...

How can I draw a line that is dashed or dotted in word document? I know how to use the tools window, but how do I make the line dashed or dotted?

Special case: Dotted line fill to a Tab postion.
You can use a dotted or dashed lin to fill the space from the end of a line of text to a tab position by formatting the tab stop.
Easier to demonstrate than explain:
Open a New WP Document.
Set a Left tab at the 5 inch mark.
Double click the tab marker to open the tab fomat dialogue.
Click one of the three non-highlighted 'fill' buttons.
Click OK to accept the setting and close the dialogue.
Press tab.
A line of the fill character should be inserted from the left margin (ie the end of the line of text) to the tab position.
Text added to the beginning of the line (ei. before the tab stop) will replace the fill characters it covers. Text added after the tab stop will be appended to the end of the line of fill characters.

Bug in Adobe XI:
The line style of Word tables is ignored. Broken lines or dotted lines in Word tables are shown as normal uninterrupted lines in PDF file.
For example, in my Word document I choose the following line styles in tables: dotted line (.........................) or broken line ( - - - - - - - - - - - - ).
In the PDF file, all lines are shown as normal uninterrupted lines (__________________), even if I zoom in 800% or more.
Is there a solution for this problem? (In FreePDF, it works well, but FreePDF has other disadvantages and therfore is no solution for me.)

Ok 1st one. The warning restriction message relates to this line in main.cf:
smtpd_helo_restrictions = permit_sasl_authenticated permit_mynetworks check_helo_access hash:/etc/postfix/helo_access reject_non_fqdn_hostname reject_invalid_hostname permit reject_invalid_helo_hostname
The last reject occurs after the single word "permit" and is ignored.
However, that's not the problem.
I'm not exactly sure what's happening, but this might be a clue.
It would appear that either postfix is not being able to create the socket for private/policy or it's somehow created with the wrong permissions. You might need to ramp up the debug level to get a better idea.
You could check if it's being created by "netstat -a | grep private/policy" in terminal.
My guess is that it's not being created because there is no setup statement in your master.cf file, but I don't understand why postfix would be looking for it if it isn't set up. Private/policy I think relates to grey listing. Maybe gives you a hint.
