Simple fcs setup

I am looking to use fcs on a mac pro with fw drives attached for storage. no network of any kind is involved. Is there a way to catalog the drives without creating duplicate media . I only edit full quality video and have no need for lower res proxies. My server machine is the same as my client machine.
The media files that I've uploaded thus far give me the transcoded version just fine, but with that said, I have no way of knowing where the original file is located and how to get to it in fcs.
In short, I am looking to use fcs as if it were a sophisticated version of iphoto with better metadata added. This seems to be easier said than done. I've had a difficult time of it trying to figure out how to "dumb-down" fcs. I have a large amount of data going thru my system and just want to use fcs to find assets quickly.
workflow- avchd, camera folder archived on hard drive, l&t into fcp as apple pro res 422, edited and exported as apple pro res--really a very simple flow. I just need better media management and want to get as much out of fcs as possible
any help/advice much appreciated.

happy to hear that it will work. I'm just not sure how to accomplish it. do i use "edit in place" to work with the original asset ? if i pull the proxy from fcs into final cut pro will it import the original asset?
and also should i include the storage location(i.e hard drive name) in the metadata ?

  • Simple VPN Setup Fails with "NOTIFY PROPOSAL_NOT_CHOSEN protocol"

    Hi,
This is pulling my hair out! Must be overlooking something very simple!
Simple lab setup with 3 routers. VPN setup between R1 & R3 with static routing. R2 connects R1 & R3. All interfaces are reachable, including loopbacks. I am trying to encrypt traffic between loopback on R1 (69.69.69.69) to loopback on R3 (192.168.100.223).
With no Crypto Map applied to outgoing interfaces on R1 and R3 ping is successful (sourced via local loopback) between the loopbacks. As soon as I add the Crypto Map the same ping fails and and I get the following debug messages.

"processing NOTIFY PROPOSAL_NOT_CHOSEN protocol 3" indicates the remote VPN peer rejected the phase 2 proposal.
The configuration snippet you have shared here seems fine, ISAKMP and IPSec debugs (debug crypto isakmp and debug crypto ipsec) from the remote VPN peer will be helpful in troubleshooting further.

  • Simple speaker setup for ATV?

I understand if I get bumped because this post isn't ATV-related... But I argue that other ATV users might find this thread helpful. So...
I purchased a new HD TV, one that I will use solely with Apple TV. I want better audio than the built-in speakers. Since I'm not going to need AM/FM radio, CD player, etc., I don't need or want a traditional AV receiver.
I want a 2-speaker speaker setup that can accept an optical audio connection (from the Apple TV)... and that's it. I've seen computer-type speakers that accept a 2.5mm audio cable, from the headphone-out of the computer. The audio signal runs to one speaker, which is the "parent" speaker -- it accepts the audio from the computer, the power input to the speaker system, and then an audio cable that runs audio to the other speaker. I want the same setup... except that it sends an optical audio signal.
Does anyone know of a speaker system that will do this? I don't need all of the bells and whistles of a traditional receiver/speaker setup. Many other Apple TV users out there might have the same, simple needs.

I want a 2-speaker speaker setup that can accept an optical audio connection (from the Apple TV)...
This may be much more than you want, but is I believe what currently replaces my Logitec Z680 which I am still using on my old PPC G5. It is a 505 watt RMS optical input amplified speaker system with 5.1 DD/DTS/Pro Logic II decoder built into the control head. Believe the street price is in the $325-$350 range if interested.

  • Simple VISA Setup Problem

    Hi all,
I'm having issues working with VISA in LabVIEW. Previously, I've used Peek/Poke VIs (before they were VISA VIs) that allowed me to read and write directly to registers at a given Windows address. I have a new, custom PCI Express board that uses the same architecture that I've worked with previously only this time I'm trying to access the registers using VISA.
As this is my first time using VISA, I'm having some setup problems. Yesterday I got to a state where logically things should work but I still end up getting an error when I try to run a simple VISA Open command (see attached screenshot).
The initial problem I had was I was not able to acquire a VISA resource that opens a session to my PCIe board...it would simply not show up on the resource list. After reading around I discovered I needed to create a custom VISA driver for my board. Once I did that using the VISA Driver Wizard, the device showed up in my list (as seen in the screenshot). I wrote the simplest of all VIs where I simply open that VISA resource, however, the error seen in the screenshot is produced.
I'm pretty sure this is a simple setup issue, but does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

    Hi bonhomme,
I see you're having some issues using VISA. It sounds like you're new to VISA, so I wanted to pass along some information that we have availble on this software. This link gives good general information about VISA, and the related links are extremely helpful in finding specific issues.
Thank you for attaching your error. This is extremely helpful in debugging since we can actually see the numbers. There is another forumn that talks about these at this link and at this link.
    Hope this helps you out!!

  • E52 - Simple IMAP setup??

    Hi all,
I've just switched from my good old E51 to a brand new E52, really a great phone: the bigger screen is really great.
I was using email in a specific setup:
I have a google apps account with my own domain, and had my E51 set up with this account as imap account, so the behavior was: when never synchronizing, I never received the emails on the Nokia (which was wanted), but, when I wrote an email from the integrated mail client, a. it was directly sent after clicking "send" ansd, because it's imap, it appeared directly in my sent items on my mail account). Simple and effective.
Now, I'm unable to do this on the E52.. I've set up a nokia messaging acount on their website (that's the only way I found to use imap), ut when I cancel all automatic updates, it doesn't send the email directly after clicking "send").
It's really weird that there's no way to simple set up an imap account like it was possible on the previous generation, do you have any advices on how can I achieve my wanted setup?
    thanks!

Nope, I can't, it looks like it's totally included in the OS, not like in the E51/71 series..
But: but entering a wrong email (with a fake domain) I was able to get to a more "normal" setup where I was able to set up a "simple" email account as I wanted.
But: it only sends my emails when I manually (or automatically but I don't use that) synchronise my emails.. while on the E51, the phone automatically got connected and sent the email directly (now it's just "queued for sending").
If the email could be directly sent, it would make this the perfect phone..

  • REALLY simple mpd setup script

Because the complaints about mpd not working never stop and the reasons being always the same, i decided to make a really, REALLY simple setup script.
All this will do is the following:
It makes sure you run it as the user, that owns the music files.
It asks for the path to your music files.
    It creates ~/.mpd and ~/.mpd/playlists
It creates ~/.mpdconf with all needed config options (apart from outputs, since mpd should autodetect those)
It copy/pastes all possible mpd options to the created config file, so the user can easily tweak it, if he likes (ugly done by including a 2nd file to be used)
It creates the entry to /etc/hosts.allow
    It deletes itself.
Hopefully this might be useful for those new to mpd.
    Anyway, here is the script:
    http://karif.server-speed.net/~carnager/mpdsetup.tar
Download, extract and run with ./mpdsetup.sh
    **edit**
updated it to disable ffmpeg per default, since it keeps crashing mpd, when playlist files are present in music directory.

  • Simple Backup Setup?

The 2T external hard drive I was using to back up my Mac Mini failed a couple months ago; Click click click... and  it wasn't recognized by the Mini.
So - I've bought two 3T external drives, empty, ready to go.
Surprise! After a few hours in the freezer, my old drive started up like nothing happened.
My goal is to get everything off my unfrozen caveman external drive and onto BOTH of the new ones.
My main concern is a failing drive, not natural  disasters or theft. I work at home.
I want as little as possible stored on the Mini, and everything as automatic as possible.
At this moment my my unfrozen caveman external drive is merrily doing a 34G TimeMachine backup.
When it's finished I'll be ready to act. The best simple back up solution using two 3T external drives...
    Anyone?
    Thanks

    Hi Cora,
Yes, you can bypass DRE on WAAS y modifying policy / creating a new policy.
To modify the policy, you need to find which policy is being used for that connection. This is little tricky and can afect the pother traffic, too.
The safe bet is to create a new policy. I believe you have the server ip addresses. You can create a new classifier using a server ip address, put two reverse conditions in the classifier and apply it to the WAE.
Here is the document help to create a new policy and new classifier. Let me know if you want me to paste the options to create a policy.

  • Simple RAID setup: OSX 10.4.6 + 2 500G HDs

I set out to have a RAID 1 mirror my key backup hard drive, just to have a SECONDARY set of everything. But when I choose the drives in Disk Utility, it tells me it's going to WIPE everything off both of them to get started... how can I set up a simple mirror of the 389G on HD1 to get mirrored on HD2? Don't need real time access to big files for video editing, or make a drive bootable... really just trying to create the best secondary backup for my huge music library.

RAID 1 is not a viable option for making a backup of a drive.
You instantly copy any corrupton, bad install, malware etc immeditaly to the other drive.
Consider instead some sort of auto-cloning or auto-backup software, this way it will do it's work when your not at the machine, tying up resources and give you the benefit of time.
Cloning = making a whole bootable "clone" of a boot drive (hold option and boot to select drive). Software does extra steps to copy hidden files and bless the System to boot.
Backup = making a copy of a whole drive or select files/folders.
My favorite program is DejaVu, it runs as a System Preference Pane.

  • Simple "cluster" setup

I am reviewing the requirements to setup a centralized management environment and was looking for some guidance on two things so far....
    1. If I have a standalone c360 running right now processing mail and I create a new cluster, I realize it will use the standalone settings as the cluster level
settings as it is the first box in the cluster, but will it require me to restart the appliance before I can join a second box to the cluster?
    2. At this point if I only have two devices in a single datacenter, is it mandatory or a best practice for me to both the cluster level and the group level?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Chris,
For the first question, You do not need to restart any of the appliances.
For the second one, with only two appliances in the setup, I would recommend using cluster level settings only. The group will be helpful if you require to have multiple sets of appliances with different configuration for each set.
    Hope this will be helpful.

  • Simple LAN setup question

Just got a new MBP 17incher, and I love it!
I simply want to be able to network my MBP when home via LAN to my PC desktop to access the 3 terabytes it contains of music and movies.
I went to the network properties on the MBP and set it to ethernet and manual so I could assign the IP 192.168.1.20.
Upon connecting the cable I lost my wireless connection... is there a way to keep my wireless connection but setup a smb share or something that would specifically use the gigabit port to access with windows machine as it is WAY faster using LAN.?? (crossover cable or direct connection is best)
please be possible other wise i'm gonna have to start punching holes in the wall to run cable down stairs to the router.

  • PIX515E and simple LAN setup question

    Hello all,
I am trying to setup an Cisco PIX 515E.
Outside interface is connected to internet.
Inside interface is connected to inside private LAN.
I am able to use http traffic from inside LAN. However, I have problem with DNS and Ping.
I can not ping inside FW interface from LAN clients (this is also GW for LAN clients), because LAN address is NATed to outside interface address. ( I see this with debug icmp trace)
I can not ping outside addresses from LAN clients. When debugging icmp at FW, I can see ping request is received back to FW, but not from FW to client.
DNS is not working. DNS server is public IP address. It seems DNS querys is not passed through FW.
Basicly, I want to access internet through PIX FW. Can anyone give me some tips what to do here?

  • A simple network setup solution for a home user!

Hi, I currently have a Power book PC g4 it has x2 external drives connected to it via time capsule and I have an old G4 clunky desktop downstairs that is connected via Ethernet but some previous owner must've doctored it because it can't run safari or itunes. I want to upgrade to an Imac and use my old powerbook PC g4 basically as a screen and keyboard downstairs to access my main new computer which is upstairs. I'm sick of duplicate files because the two computers currently are run as completely separate but on the same network!! I also have an iphone and itunes which I want to be able to sync and use from either computer so in other words I want all the same programs etc on each computer two screens two keyboards but ideally only one hard drive which is backed up by time capsule. How do I do this easily? Remote Desktop? Currently I have terrible time syncing and numerous software issues because I am trying to run the same software on each computer and they don't like it. I ought to have two licenses to do that but it is too expensive for the home user! I know I'm a bit stupid regarding these matters but geekology doesn't come naturally I'm sorry.

I want to upgrade to an Imac and use my old powerbook PC g4 basically as a screen and keyboard downstairs to access my main new computer which is upstairs.
Screen sharing lets you sort of do this, but don't expect it to be just like sitting in front of the remote computer. The connection will slow everything down and you won't get sound. Plus I'd be surprised if the PB had nearly as large a screen as any new iMac. This is not a realistic solution for day-to-day use.
I'm sick of duplicate files because the two computers currently are run as completely separate but on the same network!!
Sounds to me like you need to replace the old hardware with a new laptop rather than an iMac. Then you can take it everywhere and not have any sync issues.
I am trying to run the same software on each computer and they don't like it. I ought to have two licenses to do that but it is too expensive for the home user!
That's another reason to get a laptop... you could quit breaking the law and just install on one machine. Note, though, that if your software is as badly outdated as your hardware, it may not all work on the current version of the Mac OS (10.6.4, aka Snow Leopard). Check that before buying anything.

  • Help (Newbie) with simple business setup

    Hi all,
New to the community and this is my first post.
We have a small business and have been running the Business Manager for sometime now with approx 8 staff in a single office running skype on thier pc's with headsets, Skype numbers, voicemail etc.
The office is very IT friendly (lots of cat5 ports etc, a very solid 4-5mb down and up wireless internet connection - a line of sight wireless, we're in the country, but up on a hill so the service great).
I want to move this on to desktop phones without the need for the PC's and ideally the ability for our receptionist to receive both Skype and landline calls and transfer these calls within the office using suitable hardware.
Can someone point me in the right direction in terms of any other services I may need to purchase from Skype and necessary / recommended hardware.
    Thanks Jason

  • Can't setup Airport's wifi or ethernet

With the help of the Community here, I was able to fumble my way through multiple-user Airport network with succes. But now, I'm having problems with a simple Airport setup. The Airport Utility comes up this display on my iMac: *******
The Internet light is green because I'm using a wifi host. Otherwise, the Internet light would be gray; moreover, a status light says I have a problem with my Internet Connection.
When I click on the amber status light related to Internet Connection, I get a repeated request to recycle my modem:
...but resetting the modem doesn't fix the problem - in other words, there seems to be a problem with my network setup. To verify this, I went to System Preferences/Network, which comes up with an amber light. When I try to access the internet, there's no connection.
I've reset the Airport a half dozen times, but get this hangup every time. How can I fix this?

    Thanks!

It got to be frustrating, so I reset my Airport, and then switched the Airport input/output - and it worked. Apparently, while setting up a pair of Airports for a small array of devices (two Airports, a MacBook Air, Macbook Pro, iPad), I forgot how to set up my original home Airport (which has one Airport, a MacBook Pro, iMac, and iPad).
I'm never going to move the cables again.
