Simple gaming question, just switched

so i have a couple games from my pc days that im thinking of installing
diablo and warcraft
my question is they are universal in windows and power pc but
if i tried to install them on my intel based mac on os, would it work? would i need to emulate and so forth?

I have Diablo II and will be getting a MB soon...
As far as I'm aware Diablo II and its expansion have both Windows and Mac installers on the disks.
Since I haven't got my Mac yet I cannot say if the program works however I would be extremely surprised if it did not run.
In fact my only worries are over the fact the it runs in 640x480 or 800x600 - below the native resolution of the MB... I'm hoping the graphics card is smart enough to 'letterbox' the screen

I just switched to Excel 2007 from Excel 2003 and am experiencing the zoom/delayed retrieval issues that many have spoken of in other threads.
We currently are running essbases 9.3.1.0
Many of my other co-workers are still using Excel 2003.
Our company has not yet upgraded to version 11 yet so what is the optimum version (update) of essbase I should be using so that I do not experience these zoom issues and will that impact the compatability of any of my spreadsheets with my co-workers who are using Excel 2003?
Do I need 9.3.1.3?

9.3.1.3 client install should resolve your issues
Spreadsheet Add-in. Retrieving data using Spreadsheet Add-in with Microsoft Excel 2007 may result in slow performance. When the Formula Fill option is selected, zooming in on a member (whether using mouse actions or menu items) may result in slow retrieval performance and an error message indicating that the maximum number of rows has been exceeded.
When the Retain on Zoom option is selected, zooming out on a member (whether using mouse actions or menu items) may result in slow retrieval performance.
The Formula Fill and Retain on Zoom options are on the Mode tab of the Essbase Options dialog box. [6695282, 7019497, 7019501]

Just switched from CS6 to PS CC. I am very comfortable using ACR in previous versions. I liked to use the preview checkbox located in the upper right-hand corner to see before and afters. That checkbox is no longer in my version of PS CC. I see that they have side-by-side, top and bottom and right and left before and after options in the lower right-hand corner in this version. Is there anyway to get that legacy preview checkbox back so that I can use it?

Turn the printer on and plug the printer into the MBA and your mac should install the printer for you (usually any necessary drivers too). I had a printer I used on a pc and I plugged it into my macs usb port and my mac automatically recognized it and took care of everything for me. If you do this and it wont print, then yes go to the HP website the install latest drivers for 10.7

It sounds unlikely of course. But from your question it's hard to tell what might have filled your HDD. Are you constantly on file sharing or has filled the drive with movies?
Best way to tell is to start checking what folders occupy space. "Get Info" for the HDD and its subfolders is a way to start checking where the data in question resides.
And as BGreg say, call Apple support is also a good way to begin with.

Q1. I am making an animation which will be played on the web. What is the default frame rate (fps) of Flash CS5? And what is the frame rate of for web?

How Do I Mask everything so all I see is the Content on the Stage?
I have a wide image that extends past my movies stage size so when I preview my movie the image is visible. How do I mask out anything that extends past my movies window size? I believe I can create a layer named "mask" and place it above all other layers, but I forget how to make the mask. Any help is appreciated.
How to Fade a Graphic
I have a graphic element (some type) and I want it to fade from 0% to 100%. In older versions of Flash I could just select the symbol and then set it's alpha value to 0%, move a few keyframes and then set the alpha to 100%. Voila! but now it doesn't seem to work that way. How can I do this in CS5?

Ned, it says 24 fps which means there is 24 frames per second so each 24 frames is 1 second.

1 You can create your character as a movieclip and copy/paste that movieclip from one file to another. 2. Just switched from BTVision to BTYouview

Ok, all good news so far. Box & activation all spot ontime, and noticed my services are all updated when checking status of latter on My BT page.
Install and set-up was trouble free and its good to have the red button and surround sound working again.
Picture quality is good too ........... so fingers crossed ........... and bring on Vision Sport !!!

Well at the moment you don't get red button services or HD surround sound with BTVision, they got lost months ago on a software upgrade, and I like having both of those.
On the BTYouview platform you get BTVision (with choice of two package options) + everything else that is available on the Youview platform if you have a BTYouview box. Also, that 'Youview' bit will grow much more (as will BTYouview) so you will continue to have those two expanding viewing options. With BTYouview (as the multicast side of that grows) you will get extra HD Chans and Premium Chans like Sky Sports etc, the latter is (imo) bound to come in time for the launch of the New BTSports Chan in August (ish) so I as an individual who had/and wants those again in the near future will get them back soon. Losing them for a short while is ok. My BTVision box 'died' so just switched a few months earlier to save all that hassle twice.
In fact when all the above 'sorts of things' are implemented I wouldn't be surprised if BTVision upgraded customers to the BTVYouview box 'gradually' (but that's just me thinking aloud)
How's that for a very potted 'life story'

Question re switching data off abroad but using Wi-Fi

I bought an 8900, as it had wi-fi, and I had assumed when I switched data off when roaming, I would be able to use wi-fi to connect to the internet.
Just tried an experiment at home, and switched data off under mobile network options, connected to my home network via wi-fi, and tried to use my browser. I then got an error message saying couldn't connect to the internet.
Is there anyway to accomplish what I am trying to do? I use Gmail for mail, so had assumed I'd be able to switch off my data package while roaming, and just connect to Gmail via the web using wi-fi when abroad.

All you need is an internet connection thru WIFI

A few simple Logic questions...please help.

I have a few probably simple Logic questions, that are nonetheless frustrating me, wondering if someone could help me out.
1. I run Logic 8, all of the sounds that came with logic seem to work except organ sounds. I can't trigger any organ sounds (MIDI) on Logic, they won't play. I have a Yamaha Motif as my midi controller.
Any idea why?
2. I've starting running into a situation where I will record a MIDI track, the notes are recorded but they won't playback. The only track effected is the one that was just recorded. All other midi tracks playback.
I have to cut the track, usually go out of Logic and back in, re record for it to playback properly. Any idea why this may be happening?
3. How important is it to update to Logic 9. Are there any disadvantages down the road if I don't upgrade. If I purchase the $200 upgrade, do I get a package of discs and material, or it just a web download.
Any help is appreciated!

Simple RAID question

I'm a lifetime PC user who just switched to Mac. I do video work, and in my PC setup, I like to have one OS/Apps drive and 2 other drives that I put in RAID 0 to speed up video editing. I back up all completed projects, so I don't care about mirroring. I've been looking at RAID posts, and it sounds like you have to wipe ALL drives clean to set up a RAID on a Mac. Can I just add in my two drives for striping, and leave my system drive alone?

I work in FCP 5.1.4 and with my setup I feel it should be faster and I've been wanting to setup a RAID 0 setup. I have 2 of my drives (2 & 3) which is a TB combined that I'd like to turn into a RAID ) to speed up rendering, editing etc.
Can you point me in the direction in how to do that? As I'm converting these 2 drives, is there anything I should be careful about?
And, in FCP under pref's, it won't allow me to allocate more than 2560MB. ****, I've got 16GB in my system. So, is there anything here I can do to speed things up and allocating more ram to the program?
One other thing..if I do convert Drive 2 & 3 to a RAID 0 are there any down side issues that this causes. Crashes, App confusion and stalling etc?

Just switched to Mac :: one week w/ a black Macbook

I just switched to Mac from Windows XP last weekend. I've used Macs before but never owned one of my own (big difference), so I started the hideous task of transferring my data from my XP notebook to the Macbook.
Before buying the Macbook, I had no doubt looked at Windows-based notebooks by HP and Dell. I've always had excellent service w/ HP so I had priced out a few w/ them--nothing "excited" me, not even Vista. I looked at Dell's site b/c the XPS notebooks look nice, but I couldn't find anything even remotely reasonably priced for the size I wanted (12"-14"...total coincidence that the MB is 13").
I belong to a union and we get special pricing (12% off) through Dell on notebooks, so naturally I decided to check it out; it ended up being "more" than the Macbook for the same components by about $100. I was floored b/c I always "assumed" that Macs were always more money than PCs, esp. Dells. I'm not knocking on Dell, but it was surprising that their Inspiron-series was more part-for-part than the Macbook. HP was the closer to the price of the Macbook, but the MB was still cheaper.
My g/f and I headed over to the local Apple Store and I finally got a good look at the Macbooks in person--black sold me. It looks a lot like the old Thinkpad-black I remember from college which I always drooled over but couldn't afford. The matte finish is just gorgeous and the keyboard has a nice feel to it. The touchpad is HUGE compared to my HP and I like that you can right-click w/ two fingers, and scroll from anywhere on the touchpad.
After about two days, we noticed a small seem seperation at the top of the screen, a little to the right of the camera (which by the way is awesome...the camera, not the seperation). We boxed it up and took it back to the apple store, where they just plain took care of everything--very good customer service. We got the new one and the gentleman insisted that we check it before it left the store, which we did at the Genius Bar and all was good. Other than this little "hiccup", it's been a smooth experience and I even managed to get some work done in between playing w/ iPhoto and Garageband. We also picked up a Airport Extreme and my g/f got a new iPod.
Anyway, that's all, I just thought I'd share that. It's good to be part of the family.

I also just purchased my first mac about a week ago. I have been a windows user my whole life and sort of bought this mac 'on a whim'. I went through two gateway desktops that had both hardware and software problems (ie; nothing ran right on Vista...).
I picked up my macbook since it was the same price (and actually faster) than the gateway (sans the nicer graphics card).
Needless to say, i'm not looking back. Mine has a minor vibration, though I hear most with my drive do. I absolutely love it. I'm not going back to windows (though i will use bootcamp to set up dualboot for my windows-only apps and gaming).

Just switched from Lion to Mountain Lion - Now terminal shows up during boot up and when shutting down. How do I stop this?

Just switched from Lion to Mountain Lion - Now, when I start my machine, the terminal shows up and runs through it's thing and then the normal screen shows up. This also happens when I shut down as well - the terminal shows up again. I have a MAC running Mountain Lion at work and this doesn't happen so I'm assuming this is not normal.
While my machine still runs, it's annoying and I fear this will lead to problems if I don't address the situation. How do I ge this to stop? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They are being sent to the All Mail folder. The inbox is pretty much unaffected.
I don't want to hide the All Mail folder and forget about it. I am after the messages gone forever. Especially from the All Mail folder.
I'm the kind of person who uses email like sms. I use it to contact people annd delete 95% of the messages after reading. I don't want them archived. I don't want them stored in the All Mail folder. I want them totally gone.
And yes it seems Mail is downloading all my messages over and over. So my question is how to stop the messages being stored/archived and to instead be totally deleted.
In the gmail settings I found:
Auto-Expunge off - Wait for the client to update the server.
When a message is marked as deleted and expunged from the last visible IMAP folder: Immediately delete the message forever. Instead of archiving it like I had set before. I'm not 100% sure if that'll fix the issue I am having. I'm sure you'll be able to tell me if I am on the right track.

a) the TermsOfUse of the iTS don't allow any processing of purchased files, these are "copy protected"..
b) iM has a voice-over function..
c) iM is a video-edit app.. easy to use... just learn to handle it...
d) iM allows to "extract" audio (=muting the original audio, adding your own..)
e) to learn iM, spend some time here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/imovie/index.html
f) use pencil and paper first! WRITE and scribble, what shall happen when in your movie/parody... make a script, draw a storyboard .. THEN launch iM.. in other words: think first, then edit.. iM is just a tool, it does not "create"... Picasso needed a papertowel and half a stencil to create art....
g) to get comfortable with iM, start with your own, small, short (3min!) project... import some stills, edit them, add a funny voice-over, add sounds, add music... good? make a bigger one...
h) .. in our Lecture II, we teach you how to import shows from TV, youtube, wherever..
