Simple glossary

I am in need of a simple glossary .fla or component that I
can insert into a demo I am creating - I just don't have the time
to build one. Is there one out there that will load content from a
.txt file ?
Thanks.

The trouble is, what does a glossary look like? I flipped
through a
number of reference books just now, and the glossary of each
is unique in
certain respects.

Have you toyed around with loading text on your own? If you
format your
text as XML, you can load it at runtime. In fact, you can
format your XML
by using XHTML tags (check the simplified HTML support Flash
has by looking
up "supported HTML tags" in the Help), and in that way you
can use a limited
subset of CSS to style your text. Learning that might just
take you less
time than searching for an existing glossary Component.

  • Glossary Needed

Hi there - I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I didn't
know where else to go with it. Today is my first day working in
Dreamweaver, I started doing one of the tutorials becuase it looked
basic, and I actually understood the hows pretty well, but the
what's sort of confused me. Is there someplace where I can get a
simple glossary that would explain what divs, wrappers, id's ect.
are? They are all jumbled together in my head right now. Thanks,

Get a book on HTML and CSS (or go to
    http://www.w3schools.com) and
    study
that before touching DW. A good base understanding will make
    DW seem like a
    walk in the park.

  • Building a glossary

I want to add a simple glossary to my training--anyone have suggestions on how to start?  Ideally I'd like to be able to import a CSV with terms and definitions and have it autopopulate the content and a simple alphabetic navigation but I'm guessing that doesn't exist.  Been searching and can't find anything--anybody have a template or workaround?  We have the e-learning suite

    Hi there
Unfortunately there isn't anything built into Captivate that will facilitate building a Glossary, but I suppose you could create a slide that has glossary terms and definitions and point to the slide.
I don't suppose you have a link or anything that you might be able to share that would allow us to see what you saw first hand? If so, we might be better equipped to provide more meaningful answers.

  • Need to Delete Glossary & Add Search

    Hi All,
After converting my RH7 project to RH8, RH added a Glossary tab (which is empty, by design because we don't use them) and removed the Search tab. I am trying to remove the Glossary tab, but the Delete option is greyed out. I deleted the .glo file from the project folder and reopened the project, but all that did was give the Glossary file a red X. I have searched this forum, but no one else seems to have this problem.
Can anyone help me permanently delete the Glossary from my project?
I also can't find how to add back the Search tab. Can anyone help me with that, too?
(If these are simple tasks, I apologize in advance. I've onlly been using RH for a few months.
    Thank you for your help!!

    Hi again
    Thanks for the info.
For CHM files you need to edit the Window definition. Click View > Pods > Project Set Up. Expand the Windows pseudo-folder. Double-click the CHM window definition. (The WebHelp definition will have a small globe in the center of the icon)
Ensure the Glossary check box is cleared in the lower left area of the dialog.

  • Simple array

Hi. I'm trying arrays as a beginner and keep running into the same problem. The error I keep getting is "class, interface or enum expected". I recently installed the new Java 1.6.0_06....
I started off with a array of arrays and since that didn't work I tried a very simple one which didn't work either.
http://mindprod.com/jgloss/compileerrormessages.html has a glossary of error meanings which I tried but didn't work.
    Thanks.
    public class Array1 {
         int[] arr = new int[] {1,2,3,4,5};
         public static void main(String[] args) {

  • Import Glossary from Word Doc?

    Hello!
Is it possible to import the contents of a Word doc into a
project's glossary, rather than having to create from scratch
and/or cutting & pasting into the Glossary?
I saw nothing about this in LiveDocs or the Forum...
If I have a Word doc, what styles should be applied to the
    term and to the definition?
    Thanks in advance!
    Kathy

    Hi Kathy
Yes, it's possible. However, keep in mind that the Glossary
file exists as a simple ASCII text file. Thus, no formatting is
allowed. I might suggest the following approach:
Add a single term to the Glossary using RoboHelp. Then sneak
behind the scenes and open the ProjectName.GLO file with Windows
Notepad. Note the structure. Now format the text in your Word
document to follow the example you just looked at. You could then
select it all, copy and paste into the .GLO file.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Does Pages support glossary items?

    Happy year-end holidays!
I'm recalling a feature from other word processors that I could use in Pages. In older versions of Word (for Mac), it used to be called glossary, I think. The idea of having a cache of user-defined text items one could call up with a simple user-defined keystroke. E.g., in writing a script, being able to put in an oft-repeated character name with a keystroke or two to save time.
Any comparable feature in Pages (iWork 09)?
    Thanks for your responses.
    Cheers,
    Ben

If you had set up #n (or whatever) to be substituted by your name and address, why would you want it do something else? And how would you tell it what that soemthing else was without having another shortcut for it?

  • Can I use a central glossary file across several projects?

Hi everyone, hope you are all well.
I have started a major project which needs a major glossary covering the companies definitions of various measures. These definitions will be needed by several other projects in the future. Is there a way of each project referencing one file which we can update as necessary rather than having to go and update each project's glossary file in turn?
    Look forward to your responses.
    Nick.

Depending on number of entries and how tightly you want the glossary integrated into the content (for example, term definitions displayed as expanding text), you might consider other options, too.
One option might be to set the glossary up as its own (very simple) project rather than using the built-in RH glossary feature. Other projects could then display the glossary in a separate window. You could add/delete navigation features as needed. For example, each term could be in its own topic and you could have an alphabetical list of the terms in the TOC pane. Or all terms (or alphabetical subset) could be in long topic with TOC links scrolling to bookmarked terms.
Another option might be to set up the glossary as a PDF file that is displayed in a separate window.

  • FREE: OHJ Glossary tab

If anyone wants to try it/use it, I've got a working Glossary tab for OHJ. You'll need OHJ 4.2.1 to use it. It's designed to read and display simple text glossary entries from an XML file (coincidentally, this is the same glossary XML output format generated by RoboHelp for WebHelp projects, so if you're using RoboHelp to create OHJ, you can maintain the glossary in RoboHelp itself).
E-mail me, and I'll send the instructions, the .java files, a sample XML file, and the added entries for your .hs file.

  • Basic tutorial/glossary

I've recently been moving from an old beige G3/OS9 to an iBook G4/OS10.4, and discovered that all the people who told me that OSX was "just like" OS9 were lying through their teeth! I swear, I think I'm trying to grok a recent version of Windoze!
OK, there's a few things I've figured out, and there are some things I like about OSX, but I'm freakin' lost trying to do simple things to get up to speed, to understand the new terminology, or how the system is organized! (And I've worked with computers for >30 years!)
I've tried to find answers in the Apple Forums, in the iBook manual and help files to no avail (for example I can't believe that they refer to such things as "Smart Folders", and don't explain what the **** they are or what they do!). I spend forever trying to FIND where things are organized on the hard drive (simple in OS 6 through 9). I can't access the info I'm used to in the AppleMenu and Finder drop-downs, I can't understand all the icons in the new Finder window, and I've probably set up some things based on how I used to organize my Macs that have caused me problems in the new OS.
Where can I find a SIMPLE tutorial and glossary??? (The only things I find seem to assume one is upgrading from 10.3 to 10.4, and OSX is **** near a new species compared with Classic.)
    Thanks!

The dock is kind of handy in that any significant programs show up in the dock when they are running, even "Classic" programs. If you have Classic running it will show up there too.
If you want to see everything you have running, open up the application utility called Activity monitor (but you'll probably close it again immediately after seeing everything on there).
Note that if you are running OS9 programs that involve close interaction with system level activities that some of these no longer work under Classic since in Classic the system is really under the control of OSX. Standard problem things may be programs, special cards, or printers, programs that rely upon close interaction with Quicktime but can't handle working with the new version. Fortunately there aren't too many of the Quicktime issues. I sometimes use Movie Player 2.5.1 which is basically Quicktime Pro vintage OS8.1 and it still seems to work okay.
If you plan on doing a lot of things in Classic you might want to keep Activity monitor in mind because I find Classic on occasion gets stuck and this is evidenced in seeing BlueEnvironment taking up a huge chunk of CPU activity. I run a utility called Xstat menu on my computer which displays CPU, network activity, temperature (bunch of stuff) at the top.

  • RH8 deletes the glossary file (.GLO)

Simple issue: I converted an RH7 WebHelp project to RH8. The glossary file became a zero-byte door stop.
I close RH8, copy over a backup GLO file, open the project in RH8, make changes to the Glossary and can edit at will, close and open the project and the Glossary is still there...but, when I complile/publish the project, RH8 wipes out the GLO file.
This also occurs if I use the Glossary Hotspot Wizard: I end up with a zero-byte file.
(An ancillary issue is that the Glossary "Toolbar Button" does not show as an option in the WebHelp layout Properties page, and it is properly defined in the skin I am using).
Any hints/help would be thoroughly appreciated...
Here's something else I just discovered: any action that results in saving the GLO file zero-bytes the thing.

Bear with me on this: I refined the issue to anything that causes RH8 to explicitly save the .GLO file.
If a populated Glossary is available in the RH8 interface and no changes are made to the Glossary in RH8, then everything compiles and works fine. Any change to the Glossary in the RH8 interface, however, results in a zero-byte file when RH8 saves the change. I discovered I could use an external editor (e.g., UltraEdit) to make and save changes without getting RH8 all fluttered.
Issue resolved, but there's an underlying problem -- likely a bug.

  • Glossary checkbox selected but Glossary tab not displayed

i've created a html help file (RH 2002) and added "glossary
    terms".
To display the glossary tab, i even selected "Glossary" check
box in the Tripane Tabs and windows (HTML Help window properties).
I even added the dll file (HHActiveX.dll) in to my help folder
which was suggested by the help tutorial.
Still my glossary tab does not get displayed.
But when i created a new project and apply all these settings
(without even adding the dll file), the glossary tab gets
displayed....i do not know what's really happening in my existing
project. I've checked all the settings....any guidance please....Is
there anything i need to check further....

    HI usureka
Unfortunately, it's not as simple as just having the .DLL
present. You will also need to have it
registered with Windows. If you look in the RoboHelp help
system, there are instructions for how to register the file. They
    say:
    Registering HHActiveX.DLL
This information applies to Microsoft HTML Help projects.
If your Microsoft HTML Help project includes an online
glossary, browse sequences, or WebSearch, a special file named
HHActiveX.DLL needs to be registered on end users' systems to
    support these features.
The following steps help you distribute HHActiveX.DLL to your
end users and manually install HHActiveX.DLL, if necessary.
    To distribute HHActiveX.DLL:
Open Windows Explorer and browse to your RoboHelp program
files folder (by default, this is located in C:\Program
    Files\RoboHELP Office\RoboHTML).
    Right-click HHActiveX.DLL and select Copy.
Browse to the location of your .CHM file and paste
    HHActiveX.DLL into the same folder.
Distribute HHActiveX.DLL with your .CHM file and any other
files you are distributing with your Help system.
To manually register HHActiveX.DLL:You can provide these
instructions to your end users if you are distributing
    HHActiveX.DLL with your Help system.
Click the Windows Start button, then select Run.
    In Open, type the following:
regsvr32 <path> hhactivex.dll (specify the path of the
    HHActiveX.DLL)
    Click OK.
    Tips:
You only need to distribute HHActiveX.DLL if you are
distributing a Microsoft HTML Help system that includes an online
    glossary, browse sequences, or WebSearch.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Captivate 8 Failure Captions Glossary Widget

I've run into some apparent conflicts between the Glossary Widget and click box and button failure captions in Captivate 8.
The course uses the Captivate Glossary widget, which is placed on Screen 1 and set to "not visible", unless the user reveals it.
A button is available on Screen 2 and ff. for revealing the Glossary. It calls an Advanced Action whose main item is "Show the Glossary widget".
Later in the course there is a practice activity based on a software simulation. A scenario is provided and the user is asked what they should do next? There is a click box for the user to click, and a failure caption is supposed to appear if the user clicks in the wrong place. (Hint and Success captions are turned off.)
Here are the problems I'm having:
The button for opening the Glossary on Screen 2 was originally set to display for the rest of the project (i.e. on every screen starting from Screen 2). With that setting, the click boxes in the practice activity still work, but failure captions do not appear. If I turn off the "display for the rest of the project" setting, put a separate Glossary button on each screen, and send it to the bottom of the timeline, the failure captions begin working again. This is a big hassle that I would prefer to avoid, but obviously I will do it if necessary.
However, even with one Glossary button per screen, the failure captions work only if you never reveal the Glossary widget. If you actually reveal the Glossary widget, the failure captions no longer display, although as I said the click boxes continue to work in other respects. I tried changing out the click boxes for buttons that did the same job, but the same problem exists.
Has anyone experienced conflicts between widgets and click boxes? Any suggestions for how I might tackle this problem?
    Thank you!
    David

Right now the click boxes are set for infinite attempts. Other properties include:
    Pause project until user clicks
    Hand cursor on
Go to next slide on success
    Show failure caption
Those properties all work except "Show failure caption". I've played with number of attempts and different caption types but to no avail.
RE: the Glossary versus the button that reveals the Glossary: you may be right that the Glossary per se is not causing the conflict, but I can't really tell. The button calls an advanced action with three steps:
    Pause the project
    Show the Glossary widget
Show a Close button for closing the Glossary widget (this is actually a SmartShape that's being treated as a button)
This Close button also calls a simple advanced action:
    Hide the Glossary widget
    Hide the Close button
    Continue the project
I appreciate the time you took to respond to my posting!
