Simple pass-through application

I have a computer with 2 network connectors on it, and would like to write a very simple application to pass data from one connector to the other. This means that if I connect one connector to a router and the other to another computer, the second computer should behave as if it were directly connected to the router because the multi-homed machine is simply passing data back and forth.
This code could form the basis of an application to log all of the data passed back and forth or to possibly filter the traffic that passes through. This is what I'd ultimately like to do, but for now, I'm still struggling with how to simply pass data back and forth, and do things like opening ports when requested.
I'm not sure whether this is a very simple application (I think it is) or a very complex one. Anyone have any ideas how to do this simply? Any references to anyything like this?
Sander Smith

Maybe I'm not making myself clear about what I want to do.
Let's say I have a computer with two NICs. In one of the NICs I'd like to plug a network-enabled web cam into. This web cam has a web server built into it, and will try to open port 80 for inbound connections. My computer should allow the web cam to "think" it is connected to a router and allow this to happen, and open up port 80 on the other NIC that's attached to a router on the real internet. Any browser that connects to this port 80 will have its requests simply forwarded to the web cam. Needless to say, anything that the web cam tries to do such as send data out should be mimicked on the on the interface. In this way, we've built a simple pass-through program that transparently passes data back and forth.
It would seem that writing a little application to simply pass data from one NIC to the other should be very simple. Why would I want this? Well, I really don't. It is just the first step to building the real program where I allow some kind of filtering to happen on the data going by. For instance, imagine the web cam has no zoom feature. My program in the middle can provide this feature by watching the data go by, and simply zooming in on the images that are being returned. This is why using some existing program won't work for me: I want to be able to control the filtering in the middle.
Anyone have any ideas on how to do this simply?

  • Flat-file and the pass-through pipeline

    Hi there,
I have  a technical questions about the inner workings of BizTalk.
The MSDN says that BizTalk is XML-centric and enything that is going through it and is posted to the MsgBox is converted to XML format.
The question: Is this also true in a scenario including flat-file and a pass-through pipeline ?
Lets say the flat file needs not to be translated, the external organisation will except the flat-file format we are receiving on the receive port. So we use the receive location with the pass-thrugh pipeline (a pipilene without any components in it) and
a send port with a simple filter pointed to the ReceivePort name. No need to convert the file to XML whatsoever, and it would be a waist of time and resources IMHO.
So the question is, will BizTalk (being XML-centric) do the translation anyway ? In what format is the received file being posted and stored in the MsgBoxDb ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Peter

In a pass-through scenario (with pass-through pipelines) BizTalk will not process the message payload.
    More information here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa561008.aspx
The pass-through receive pipeline has no components. It is used for simple pass-through scenarios when no message payload processing is necessary. This pipeline is generally used when the source and the destination of the message are known, and the message
requires no validation, encoding, or disassembling. This pipeline is commonly used in conjunction with the pass-through send pipeline.

  • USB Pass-Through From Windows 8.1 Host To Windows Server 2012 R2 VM

I want to be able to connect with a Windows Mobile Device through Windows Mobile Device Center, within a Virtual Machine.  When connecting through the Hyper-V Manager and through Remote Desktop, under "Other supported RemoteFX USB devices",
I can see the Symbol USB Sync Cradle.  In the VM, in Device Manager, I don't see a USB connection.  In the VM, I don't see any meaningful errors in the Event Viewer.
Host:  Windows 8.1 Enterprise Hyper-V on a Domain.  Upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro.  When this computer was originally installed with Windows 8 Pro, Hyper-V was enabled.  I removed Hyper-V, and installed VMWare Player, because I wanted
USB Pass-through.  I then uninstalled VMWare and installed VirtualBox.  Recently, I uninstalled VirtualBox, upgraded to Windows 8.1 Enterprise, and enabled Hyper-V.
Virtual Machine OS: Windows Server 2012 R2 on a Workgroup.  Started out with being a VMWare VM, using VMWare Player.  Moved to VirtualBox.  USB Pass-through was working in both those virtual environments.  Used Disk2VHD to convert the
    VM to a VHDX file.
    On the Host:

  • Pavilion dv8t 1200 - simple pass/digital persona software won't install

    Howdy,
Windows 7 Home Premimum 64 bit
    Intel Core i7 Q720 @1.60GHz
    Pavilion dv8t - 1200 Notebook PC
The reader worked fine for the first few months/year, however it then only started working for signing in & occasionaly for sites & gTalk. I was cool with that...annoyed, but cool. Oh, it also didn't work to sign in if I had to sign in again after the screen saver came up or if the machine went into hybernate.
Today I decided to see if there was an update or if I could get it working for something other than signing in. After installing what was most likely the wrong package, I uninstalled it through the Program  Manager.
I then shut down the machine, ran CCleaner (there were digital persona errors removed...about 8) & went to install sp50048 which I believe is the correct one for my machine.
During the install it tells me the folder/files already exist, (even though I uninstalled it) & ithey do, then at the instal phase "Registering Modules" I receive the following error:
    Error 1722
    InstallDPPassFilter_x64.4D0EAAF1_2D33_4FFF_AA08_6...
And then in rolls it back.
I turned off the biometric devices in the control panel, ran CCleaner again, shut the machine down completely, tried installing again & had the same issue.
I turned the biometrics on in the control panel & recieve this message:
"Biometric devices are turned on, however I'm told “Windows did not find any biometric devices on this computer. You might need to attach your device or install device drivers.”
I have tried a few methods from 'solved' under both simple pass & digital persona
Thank you all for reading & attempting to help.

    Howdy,
Thank you for your advice, however it did not work out.
    Addressing each point in succession:
I can not get Digital Persona to install, therefore I can not interact with it hence none of the steps in the Setup and Use HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader were available to moi.
Troubleshoot a Fingerprint Reader did not solve the issue, however I did go through the steps there so I shall describe my results in an effort to see if it helps home in on the problem.
All files used to update were pulled from the hp.com site using my Product Number.
Update the BIOS - BIOS was up to date
Enable Biometric Support (in BIOS) - Following the instructions it appears mine is always in the state: Enable
Check for Windows Support - Validity Sensor appears under Biometric Devices in the Device Manager
Update the Device Driver - (Had deleted the driver previously, so installed & updated) - Updated/Installed
Update the Access Manager - Attempted to install Digital Persona 5.1.0.175 A, but again during the install it gave me the same error (as my original post describes) & did not install.
As a final note, Windows does not see the reader in the Control Panel (large icons) Biometric devices even though it is turned on.
The reader worked fine before I tried to update it to a newer version & I still believe I installed an incorrect version of the Simple Pass software.

  • Analog to digital, how does one actually pass through a TRV120 or TRV950E ?

I would need some technical advice on how to connect a camera with pass-through feature in between a VCR and the computer.
I am trying to copy VHS-C cassettes to the Mac via a Digital8 Sony TRV-120. I use A/V pin connector from the VCR, Firewire to the Mac. I get the VCR image on the TRV's LCD, but nothing on the Mac. iMovie says the camcorder is empty, dot. If I put a tape inside, iMovie launches the tape and I get the image from the tape. I was pretty certain that the TRV-120 had the pass-through feature, having seen it mentioned on some reviews. Is there a special manipulation to do? Or do I need the sVHS cable? (would be weird).
Otherwise, I tried the TRV950E as a converter. The only way I could make the link work through is by recording the analogue signal onto the camcorder tape. I thought it would be easier, am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Paul

In my unnEUtered Sony TRV320E Analog to DV passthrough goes like this:
    1. Take the tape out of the camcorder
    2. Connect the analog device's audio and video to the camcorder's minijack, use the S-Video jack for video if the output device supports S-Video
    3. Put the camcorder into VTR-mode
    4. Select A/V->DV out: ON, in VTR mode's menu choices
    5. Disable the info display on the the camcorder by toggling its DISPLAY button
    6. Put iMovie (or other DV application) to the Camera Mode
The analog image should now appear on the camcorder's screen as well as on the iMovie's screen.
Note that if you have a tape in the camcorder, you have to put the camcorder's VTR into REC mode (you may pause the tape) but this is not advisable because it produces wear to the tape.
    * Note that the SCART which comes with the European nEUtered TRV320E camcorder is Out-only.
Notice that some analog to DV passthrough converters (like the TRV320E) don't work in iMovie HD 6.0.2 like they do in iMovie 4.0.1:

  • Analog to digital pass through

First of all I apologize if this has already been addressed. The following is what I am trying to do with my eMac computer lab at school. I am using iMovie 4 with Mac 10.2.8. I am trying to use pass through mode with iMovie and my Sony camcorder. I have the VCR going into the Sony and the Sony in VTR mode. The video shows up fine in the LCD screen of the Sony. I used a firewire cable to connect to the eMac and tried to import the video into iMovie. Nothing shows up in iMovie. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? All help is greatly appreciated.

    hey there Shirley,
what model of Sony cam are you using? check the manual. try a different FW cable & w/ a different Mac. is the FW connection solid & tight? have you toggled the switch below the viewer from edit(scissors icon) to import(camera icon)? do you have control of the cam for play, stop, etc...? sorry for all the questions, but better to go through the simple & sometimes overlooked first.
someone else may have more & better thoughts. also see this:

  • How can I see how much data passes through my Time Capsule?

I am thinking of using a cellular data plan at home. My current, rural internet provider is slow and unreliable. I use a MiFi as a backup and have 4G service which is much faster and rarely goes down. I need to see how much data is downloaded and uploaded to compare costs. All our data passes through my Time Capsule.

A similar app to what Bob mentions is peakhour.. it works on any of the newer OS.
    https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/peakhour/id468946727?mt=12
It is a good app. BUT.. fat ugly BUTT.. just the same as Bob has explained, it depends on SNMP to work.. and so due to apple removing a very useful and functional protocol from its airport range you can no longer use it. Bizarre.
I strongly recommend a Netgear WNDR3800 (older model now but you can pick up one cheaply on ebay) and a 3rd party firmware called gargoyle. Apple delete my posts if I point you to it, so you will have to search yourself.
Replace your tall TC with the Netgear as the main router.. bridge the TC to it and you can continue to use its wireless and for TM backups. The advantage is that gargoyle will not only measure everyones usage, by IP, it is able to set a quota on everyone using the net and you can set that quota for hourly, daily or weekly or monthly. It will track the usage and you can see at a glance what everyone has used.
It is simple to load.. just like a standard firmware update. The interface is as clear as anyone can make it with such of lot of tools. And the actual router is powerful enough to provide excellent QoS and parental controls on top of measurements and quota.

  • HP Simple Pass appears to have created its own Windows Log on Password

HP Pavillion M6 1035 Lap Top
    Windows 7 64-bit
Hi, I recently bough this computer and reluctantly (cause I knew it would cause a problem) agreed to let HP Simple Pass help me manage my passwords about a month into ownership.
When I originally set up my computer I did not create any passwords for the log on (no need for me to).  If prompted I just clicked enter.  As far as I remember, before I set up HP Simple Pass, I was not prompted to log on at start up or I just clicked enter and- it loaded straight to my desk top.  I certainly never had to type anything.
After using Simple Pass, I am prompted at log on for a password, or to swipe a finger. I've been using the finger swipe just fine but today decided it was a pain and I just want it back the way it was.  That is when I discovered that Windows thinks I have a Log on password.  I have tried any and all passwords I know, including all the ones I entered into Simple Pass. I have tried just hitting enter, "password", you name it and it won't let me on.  I can still gain access with the finger swipe but in the settings for the software it does not show any information about Windows Log On.  (You can for example view other account passwords, just nothing about Windows Log On).
I tried accessing it through my device manager and I found where I can disable this, but alas, I need the Windows logon password that Simple Pass [evidently] assigned.
Can someone please suggest what is going on?  I am sure this will lead to a problem in the future and I am so sick of trying to fix broken computers (hence why I bought a new one).
    Thank you in advance

I have only seen this a couple of times and I don't have the answer...
I do not know how you managed to set up SimplePass without a typed in Windows password.  OK, having said that:  if you have done it, then it's done.
I would suggest that you get yourself over to AuthenTec, sign up for their forum, and ask this question in the context of the SimplePass (maybe omitting the dislike of the product since it is, after all, their means of being in business).
Why do this?  Because I don't think it should have happened.  From the few entries I have seen on the AuthenTec forum, Miroslav Buran (at AuthenTec) is knowlegable in his field and may be able to help you straighten this out before it causes problems.
Be sure to explain that you are using HP SimplePass and let them know the exact version of the SmplePass Software to get the best help.  Tell them your Operating System / bit, too.
When SimplePass IS used in conjunction with a Windows password (as intended), it works very well as a rule.
I am sorry your introduction to the tool was rocky and your experience has been less than stellar.
I would be very interested in hearing how this is resolved.  If I find anything helpful, I will post back to you here.
    Kind Regards,

  • IDOC status 62 -  IDOC passed to application

    Hello Experts,
Am posting a inbound sales order custom/extended IDOC into the system from WE19, but, when I saw it in WE02/05, its showing status 62 - IDOC passed to application, i checked ST22 run time error. there is no error and also checked triggering timings, its trigger IMMEDIATELY in WE20 fo rthat partner!!
Pls. let me kniow the reasona and fixing idea.
    Thank you

I think you're going to want to debug through the process code (set a breakpoint in that function) and determine if you get a clean exit from there.  If so, you should see a new status in your control record and in your status table as you exit the function call.  It sounds like you've got an abnormal termination/exit from the process code, in which case the IDOC status is falling back to the last recorded status.  If this is not the case, then perhaps you've got a commit handling issue where an explicit commit is expected to finish the process but never happens.

  • Is there now a system call to send pass-through commands to ATA devices?

I want to send pass-through ATA commands to SATA/ATA devices on intel-based solaris. From the beginning the USCSICMD ioctl has worked just fine on SCSI/SAS/FC targets on intel & sparc-based solaris, but the mechanism to send pass-through commands to ATA devices has always been undocumented, closed, unavailable, whatever.
Is there now a way to do this w/o writing a custom device driver? Does anybody have an example chunk of code that does something simple like send the ATA IDENTIFY command to a disk drive? I know I can use SATL to encapsulate commands to SATA disks using certain SAS controllers, but I really need a way that will work with devices that are plugged into a standard SATA port on a motherboard.
    Thanks

  • Data Guard as a pass through?

    Scenario is . . .

I guess what I am really asking is can a Standby be used as the source for another Standby.

See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10700/cascade_appx.htm#i638620 for more information on Cascaded Standby Destinations. There are a few restrictions:
    Cascading has the following restrictions:
    * Logical and snapshot standby databases cannot cascade primary database redo.
    * SYNC destinations cannot cascade primary database redo in a Maximum Protection Data Guard configuration.
    * Cascading is not supported in Data Guard configurations that contain an Oracle Real Applications Cluster (RAC) primary database.
    * Cascading is not supported in Data Guard broker configurations.
Keep an eye on this chapter and Note 409013.1 "Cascaded Standby Databases" when the next patch set for 11.2 comes out :^)

  • Encoding Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) sound in MP4 files using AC3 pass-through

Looking for an application that will encode Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) sound in an .mp4 container using AC3 pass-through for playing videos with surround sound on ATV.
Handbrake is out of the question because I run Tiger. The Tiger version cannot do AC3 pass-through.
Visual Hub is no longer available.
    Any other options?

You may need Apple's MPEG2 QT plugin as well for MPEGStreamclip.
Also, consider if running windows in parallels/Boot Camp etc that there's a windows version, and possibly a linux version.
VisualHub code was released open source - Google FilRedux and PunyVid (iSquint derivative). Not tried either though.

  • How to export PDF without recompressing all images (pass-through)

I have a simple two page document, each page has a background image linked to a perfectly sized jpg file from photoshop.  Each jpg has been painstakingly optimized in photoshop.  When I export to PDF, there is no passthrough option.  I read in forums that setting compression to "maximum" will essentially pass-through as long as no downsampling is done.  However, this is not the case.
Both jpegs are around 250KB, so I'm aiming for a pdf around 500-600KB.  However, when I set "do not downsample" and compression to "none,"  I get an uncompressed file (70MB) essentially converting my jpegs to tiffs.  When I set the compression to "maximum" I get a file that is 1.2MB.  When I set the compression to "medium" I get a pdf file that is 400KB.  So, this tells me the export is clearly recompressing the file no matter what setting I choose.  How do I set it to not touch the images and pass-through the files?  I want photoshop to do all the compression work, not indesign.
Is there anyway to achieve this?

You can see what happens if you compare an uncompressed PSD with an overly compressed jpeg placed in ID.
The two side by side in Photoshop where you can clearly see the artifacts in the jpeg:
Placed in ID the jpeg's overly compressed pixels are still visible—these are the pixels that get exported
If I export to PDF with minimum quality you can see the compression artifacts in the PSD and newly added artifacts in the jpeg:

  • Reg Simple Web Dynpro Application

    Hello Gurus,
I am developing a simple Web Dynpro Application that displays just Purchase Header Details.
It says the runtime Error, "The exception CX_WD_CONTEXT" was raised but was not caught at any stage in Call Hierarchy.
    Any Suggestions would be rewarded.....
    Regards
    Jay

    Hi,
I have pasted the short dump....
    ===========================================================
    Runtime Errors         UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION
    Except.                CX_WD_CONTEXT
    Date and Time          27.02.2007 11:48:17
         ShrtText
An exception that could not be caught occurred.
         What happened?
The exception 'CX_WD_CONTEXT' was raised but was not caught at any stage in the
              call hierarchy.
Since exceptions represent error situations, and since the system could
not react adequately to this error, the current program,
               'CL_WDR_CONTEXT_NODE_VAL=======CP', had to
              be terminated.
         What can you do?
Print out the error message (using the "Print" function)
and make a note of the actions and input that caused the
              error.
To resolve the problem, contact your SAP system administrator.
You can use transaction ST22 (ABAP Dump Analysis) to view and administer
termination messages, especially those beyond their normal deletion
              date.
is especially useful if you want to keep a particular message.
         Error analysis
An exception occurred. This exception is dealt with in more detail below
. The exception, which is assinged to the class 'CX_WD_CONTEXT', was not
               caught,
which led to a runtime error.
The reason for this exception is:
Die Anzahl der Elemente der Kollektion des Knotens INDEX.1.EKKO_ITAB verletzt
              die Kardinalität.
         How to correct the error
You may able to find an interim solution to the problem
in the SAP note system. If you have access to the note system yourself,
              use the following search criteria:
              "UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION" CX_WD_CONTEXTC
              "CL_WDR_CONTEXT_NODE_VAL=======CP" or "CL_WDR_CONTEXT_NODE_VAL=======CM001"
              "CHECK_COLLECTION"
If you cannot solve the problem yourself and you wish to send
an error message to SAP, include the following documents:
              1. A printout of the problem description (short dump)
To obtain this, select in the current display "System->List->
                 Save->Local File (unconverted)".
              2. A suitable printout of the system log
To obtain this, call the system log through transaction SM21.
Limit the time interval to 10 minutes before and 5 minutes
after the short dump. In the display, then select the function
                 "System->List->Save->Local File (unconverted)".
              3. If the programs are your own programs or modified SAP programs,
                 supply the source code.
To do this, select the Editor function "Further Utilities->
                 Upload/Download->Download".
              4. Details regarding the conditions under which the error occurred
or which actions and input led to the error.
