Simple printer for my network (connected to windows pc)

I'm looking for a printer to connect to a windows PC that will let me print through the network from my MacBook and iMac.
I just want a simple and cheap printer, nothing too fancy.
I've got a HP3650 now, but I cant get it too work like this (tried everything from standard osx drivers to cups, foomatic, gutenprint etc..) But nothing seemed to work for me.

I would recommend you purchase a printer that has its own network card (wired or wireless). That way you don't need to share it from Windows, allowing the Mac's to connect directly to the printer using their provided driver.

  • Before I had Mavericks I was able to print over the network to a Windows PC. Now I receive the message, "connection refused." Any ideas?

Before I upgraded to Mavericks, I was able to print over the network to a printer attached to a Windows PC. Now, I receive the message, "connection refused." any ideas as to why this may be and what I can do about it would be appreciated.

I had reconfigured all of the settings the same as in the previous OS X. The only thing I can think of that may be causing this is that the printer is an older Canon Pixma iP4300 and the Canon site doesn't have a driver for the new OS X. The Canon site said that the new OS X may supply the driver. Is there any one with the same experience as mine?

  • HP Color LaserJet CP1518ni - Network connect on Windows 7 64-bit operating system.

For a temporary fix, I've connect an HP Color LaserJet CP1518ni for network use by my department.  The printer is printer over the network, but it is not printing in color - just black and white/grayscale.  The demo page prints in color, but nothing sent over the network will print in color.  Is there a fix for this?

  • No network connection after windows 10 install

No internet connection after windows 10 install- laptop wont recognize any wi-fi networks- repair option on MY ATT has no option for windows 10 system

    Hi,
Sorry about that. One other thing to try is to try this in the command prompt:
Start - All Programs - Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt. [For Windows 8 or 10: <Windows Logo> + x - Command Prompt(Admin)]
Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog
Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log
    Reboot the machine
If still having issues, you may need to uninstall your network adapter and install it again.

  • Unreliable Network Connection with Windows

    Hi,
I am using a Macbook Pro with Mac OSX Mavericks.
I have shared a few folders on my Macbook over the network so they can be accessed by another computer running Windows 7 Pro. The Macbook is connected to my home network using an ethernet cable via a hub.
I am unable to reliably copy *any* files from Windows to my Macbook.
Any attempt to copy a folder containing more than a few hundred files invariably results in the Macbook's network folder becoming disconnected (and therefore unreadable) briefly, cancelling the whole operation.
This was always pretty unreliable on Mac OSX Mountain Lion, but has since become even worse since I upgraded to Mavericks.
Does anyone else have this problem? How do you reliably share files over your network?

    Home Edition or Home Premium?
The Apple SETUP drivers on your OEM DVD (Boot Camp 3.0.x) should enable network and seems that is fine.
The only AV you need, and you do need, is MS Security Essentials. I wouldn't bother with anything else, or any free or commercial suite or firewall.
PCs have had trouble too, with lost connections after resuming from sleep.
    Is this wired or wireless?
How about the modem, router, etc. setup and configurations?
Uninstall the device driver and let Windows install its own.
You can always use Device Manager to "rollback" a driver; you have more options and flexible with Windows in that regard than OS X ever had, so you can test and try out different driver. Just look for current network adapter driver. And no, I'd think there is Windows 7 or Windows Vista/7 bundle (installer or zip package).
And if it is the BASIC Windows 7 then I'd also consider upgrade to Home Premium.

  • "Error while Printing" on ethernet network connected iMac.

Have 2 iMacs sharing a Canon MP530, one directly connected, the other via a Linksys ethernet router. Upon a print request, the networked computer locates the MP530 and displays the standard print page, but shortly after clicking Print (or Preview) the "Error while Printing" message is displayed. Under some conditions in the past we have been able to print from the networked machine, but now we're stuck and nothing seems to fix the problem.

Since you have 10.4.10 installed, I'm betting that you were able to print before this update was installed. Anyway, the first thing I would do is delete the printer from the 'client' (the iMac connecting to the shared printer). Open Printer Setup Utility, select the MP530 and delete it. Then click on Printer Setup Utility and select Reset Printing System. This should remove the Canon MP driver files. Then run the printer driver installer again and once completed, add the printer via the Printer Setup Utility, by clicking Add > Default Browser and select the Shared Printer.
I would also try running a Repair Disk Permissions and if that doesn't help then try using Fixamac's Printer Setup Repair utility.

  • What should the"default behavior" be for WiFi network connections?

I Have been able to at least temporarily fix the plethora of problems encountered after downloading Mountain Lion to my 2009 17" MBP just ten days ago.  Thanks to the time and effort of so many posters that are much more savvy than me, I successfully executed the steps suggested in many of the posts and with good results.  It surely beats running down to the Apple store and being told that I am the only one with a problem.
Okay,  I've  realized that I don't really know what the default behavior of the WiFi network connection should be?
    Specifically:
Should the Wi-Fi drop down in Network always be" looking for networks", even though I am obviously on my Network?
Should the Wi-Fi be connected at all times even when your computer is in sleep mode- or deep sleep mode?  There have been so many problems with Wi-Fi dropping off, slow or hanging loads, etc.
I unchecked "ask to join networks, in Network preferences thinking it might stop looking for networks when it doesn't need to because I'm already on mine.  I do see my neighbors (four neighbors) in the drop down in Network.
How do you get into Time Capsule's settings, to check speeds, especially ping?  What should the ideal settings be?
How do you know if your DHCP license is renewed? I've heard that feature isn't working and may be the culprit to some of the Wi-Fi problems.
I'll look forward to your help in understanding more about this.  I've been in the support  area a lot lately, I've read plenty of definitions, and explanations of the different options to choose from in Apple's support area, but nowhere have I seen anything that explains what the default behavior should be or perform  like.
    Thanks, as always.

Generally, you don't want to tweak the wifi settings. It pretty much takes care of itself. The caveat to that is, of course, if you're experiencing problems.
The 'looking for networks' behaviour only happens when you log in, wake the mac from sleep OR when you click on the wifi icon. You clicking on it tells the mac  "I want to see what networks are available" - so it does a scan for you to check to see if any new networks have appeared since you last clicked on it (or woke/logged in). In short, if you don't want it to look for new networks, don't click on the icon!
Unchecking the 'ask to join networks' option only applies when your mac detects a new network (such as when it wakes) that you haven't already authorised; it'll ask you to confirm whether you want to join it or not. Otherwise, if the network is open it'll join automatically. You should keep this selected if you travel around with your Mac. It's a good idea to know what network you're on before you start plugging in passwords or typing other things into the mac.
There is a utility that you can use for ping and traceroute called 'Network Utility'. Click on the Spotlight icon in the top right of your screen and type "Network' and you should see it at the top of the list. Hit 'return' to open it.
DHCP licences are normally renewed automatically by your router every 24 hours. Again, there's no reason to be messing about with that unless you're experiencing problems.
If you're experiencing wifi dropout, let us know, and we'll make some suggestions, but if you're not, you're best leaving your mac to manage the background processes. It knows what it's doing!

  • Remove log in password for user account connected to windows live

Hi, I had connected my windows live account to my local account, which is running windows 8.1
Now, it is asking me for Live password every-time I have to login to my windows. Is there any way to remove this password? I want to keep my Live account connected, but don't want to enter password every-time I want to login.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
When you connect a local account to a Microsoft Account, then the logon password will also be changed to the password of your live account, this is unavoidable, but if you think that typing the password every time is too annoying, then we can use a PIN
instead, move the mouse to the right charm bar\Change PC settings\Accounts\Sign-in options, type four digit number as your password
We can also use autologon tool to automatically logon to the account after you start your machine, but please note that this might cause potential security issue because everyone who get the machine can have access to to your Microsoft Account.

just download the tool, then configure as below, here, you need to type your live account as the username

  • Custom TCP/IP Settings for different network connections

I have about 4-5 different networks I hop onto all the time.
The problem is my brother will NOT use Auto-configure using DHCP. So, I have to get the settings and put them in everytime, with his static IP, gateway, DNS and the such. Is there a way to save them to that specific connection and whenever my macbook pro sees HIS network will use HIS settings? I mean, it would make sense to be able to custom fit a connection just to his connection.
So, that when I am on his network I wouldn't have to retype/input his settings because the SSID tells the computer that I am on his network and to use his settings. When I am on different networks it would use the settings appropriate to that network.
I don't know if that made any sense, respond back if it didn't and I will try to clarify better.

Add a "Location" for that network configuration.
System Preferences > Network > Location > Edit Locations
Then when you want to switch to that network, click on the Apple > Locations and select the Location you set up.
I have a few locations set up this way and it works well.

  • Freeware utilities for keeping network connection alive?

Hi, I am wondering if anyone has recommendations for a freeware utility that can keep the network connection alive on my 2010 mac mini.
Already have sleep, screen saver, and password lock turned off.  Also using static IP.
When it sits for a while I can no longer ping it from my PC workstation or use iTunes, VNC etc from my phone.
When I open up the mac, which I am using as HTPC, it will connect right away to Google etc using Safari yet it has dropped the share connection to my PC.
    Thanks!  Sean

    Thanks for the report!

  • Firewall always asks for incoming network connections

Some of my installed applications like Dropbox, Coda, Adium, jDownloader... are always asking if incoming network connections are allowed?
How can I turn this off? It's getting really annoying!

I'm having this problem, too. It happens with EVERYTHING, including Word, Excel, and Photoshop. I have my Firewall turned on, but I also have it set to allow those programs to accept incoming network connections.

We are using HP Offiejet Pro 8000 A809 on our network, and they are installed on a Windows 2008 Server.
But when we are sending a print command it prints only garbage. We've tried different print drivers but without success.

temporary solution from HP is to use the standard HP Deskjet 990c driver.

  • 3600n network connection on Windows 7

Trying to connect a Color Laserjet 3600n to my network using an ethernet to my router on Windows 7 64 bit.  Had the printer connected via usb with no issues.  Have tried most of the "fixes" on the posts here but have gotten it to work on my desktop Win 7 64 bit, laptop Win 7 64 bit or desktop Vista 64 bit.  Tried the Vista host on both Win 7's already and also manual configurations.  Consider myself to be pretty tech savvy and have been fooling around for around 6 hours to no avail.

  • Printer Mac Wifi network connection

I cant get my Macbook pro to print through house wifi... House desktop is running windows 7. My mac seems unable to connect to my printer plz help thx?

Looking at the specs for this model there is no mention of Bonjour support. So you will need to manually add the printer to the Mac. To do so, you will need to know the IP address the printer is using. You should be able to print a network configuration page from the printer. Or you can refer to the Win7 PC's by opening Devices & Printers, selecting the Kyocera, right-click and select Printer Properties, then the Ports tab. In this list, the IP address will be shown (you may need to widen the Port column to see the full address or press the Configure Port button).
Once you know the IP address, on the Mac you can open Printers & Scanners and click the plus button to add. Select the IP icon and then enter the IP address of the FS-C5250DN. Change the Protocol to HP Jetdirect-Socket. Leave the Queue blank. Change the name to C5250 and leave the Location blank. If the Use menu does not automatically select the FS-C5250DN printer, click on the Use menu and then "Select printer software". From the Printer Software window, select the FS-C5250DN and click OK to close this window. Then click on Add to complete the printer queue creation. Now see if you can print a document from the Mac to the printer.
