Simple question! Which DVD's to buy and why!

Hi,
I have not really used iDVD after I bought the wrong DVD's! (DVD RAM). I learn that there are DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD RW.
OK so for my mac, which cant use DVD RAM discs, which format should I go for and what make is the best? Panasonic, Sony, TDK, etc.
Thanks
George UK

Hello George,
the Verbatim DVD-R discs Sue mentioned have a very good record on this board. Avoid DVDR/RW, as they are not as compatible with stand-alone DVD Players. DVD-RW maybe used for test burns, as they are re-writable, but not very many DVD players read RW-discs.
For more info on the compatibility issue have a look at the excellent database on xlr8yourmac:

For more info on the differences between the DVD media formats check out Jim Taylor's DVD FAQ:

I have itunes account and I'm trying to buy for itune store and asks me security questions which I can not remember and do not put a rescue optional email I should do?

    Hello Jbamrah,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
Rescue email address and how to reset Apple ID security questions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5312
You can edit or delete your rescue email address at My Apple ID. To edit your rescue email address:
Navigate to My Apple ID using your web browser.
    Click "Manage your account"
When prompted, sign in using your Apple ID and password.
    Click Password & Security
You'll be asked to answer 2 of your 3 security questions before you can make any modifications. If you are unable to remember your answers, you can choose to send an email to your rescue email to reset your security questions.
Note: The option to send an email to reset your security questions and answers will not be available if a rescue email address is not provided. You will need to contact iTunes Store support in order to do so.
    Best of luck,

  • Simple question - which HD to chose?

    Hi everybody,
I have a really simple question, I am about to buy an external HD, my doubt is: do any HD work with TimeMachine in order to use it for my backups?

Not necessarily. I have one (in the "Pro" line) without any such problem.
With many drives, if you completely erase and reformat it, without loading any of the software that comes with it, those problems are unlikely.
Some will respond to the +Put the hard disk(s) to sleep . . .+ option in System Preferences > Energy Saver, some don't.
Some WDs, however, come with "spin down" programming that's near-impossible to remove.
Well it was certainly the case on 3 FreeAgent drives that I know of, and it was a well known problem that Seagate did nothing about. The drives would spin-down after a short time and cause a fairly long delay anytime drive access was needed. This was a hardware issue and nothing to do with the disk format. seagate provided drive manager software for Windows but not Mac.
I suppose the issue has been resolved in later drives but the point is not to assume that any old external drive is suitable for use with OS X.

In general most macs you buy are the same. If you will be doing quite a lot of editing of photos and videos, then the big things to look for are:
Processor - 2.8ish GHz Intel i7 4-core - is about the best I have head of thus far.
RAM - fairly easy to upgrade yourself, but 16GB is typically more than you will need for the next 5 years at least.
iLife is reasonably good software for editing media, but as a photographer, you may have your own prefered software
The good thing about Apple is that they don't sell ****** computers in general. They offer little in the way of customization of hardware which is both their strength and weakness.

    1. How long it took you to write the question in the forum?
You are asking about specific case in your database. I am sure that you could open click on the Execution Plan button and get a faster answer and much more accurate for your specific database. Not always the forum is the best and faster solution, sometimes
    you can get it yourself.
Regarding the "why", it is a good question :-)
    please post DDL+DML
    2. As other mentioned if you want help regarding a query then we need to be able to reproduce the situation. Instead of stories on your tables, you could post the DDL+DML queries :-) that mean the create table (with indexes) query and the insert sample
data query. With this information we can click the Execution Plan button in our server :-)
Moreover, with DDL+DML we might suggest a better solution

As I said in my above reply we are fellow users, we won't know why your account is disabled.
You might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
You might then need to log out of your account on your phone by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in so as to 'refresh' the account on it.
If that doesn't fix it then you might need to contact iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • Medium Scale Production Question? (DVD studio Pro, FCP and Compressor)

    Please Help Me,
Ive made it to the last faze of 50 dvd production project with UNDERWATER video. Im trying to find the most efficient way to begin the DVD formatting process and Id like to think compressor could speed this up.
The underwater video is DV source captured in Final Cut 5, edited and marked with chapter markers for use with the custom DVD Studio Pro Menus.
Each DVD Menu is unique and each chapter marker corresponds with a button already prepared in a DVD studio pro menu.
    Im trying to determine:
    1. Whats the best setting to use for DVD quality (the tapes are no longer than 30 minutes)? My thought was a one pass CBR at 9mpbs.
    2. Can I create a batch process for the video and audio that WILL include the preset chapter markers and be useful in DVD studio pr? Ive attempted this process with the export to compressor setting in FCP 5 and then my custom 9mbs CBR setting in Compressor, but the "chapter" markers do not show up in DVD Studio Pro.
    3. What if any filters should i run over the video in Compressor to improve the quality of the underwater video? de-Interlacing? Color correction?
    4. Does it save me anytime to create this independent .m2v files for use in DVD studio pro or should I just create a export to quicktime file and let DVD studio Pro do the encoding? Does DVD studio pro re-encode the video when i burn my DVD with it?
Please help, ive got to get 29 done by monday and it took me months to get this far. Custom menus, editing, capturing, menu flaws, etc...
    Ryan

    Hi,
9mbs is too high if the discs will be duplicated (as opposed to replicated). 7 would be better. Be sure to compress the audio as Dolby Digital.
Do your color correction in FCP before compression.
    Best Wishes,

  • Linux on Primary Or Logical? which is better?? and why?

    hello,
what is the best way to install linux ( redhat, oracle enterprise ,etc)
on primary partition or logical partition ? and why?
    i have 3 hd's ( hda,hdb,hdc) >> ( 40 GB,80GB,320GB) IDE
why im asking this becoz i installed linux more than 3 times lately and i always ended up with GRUB errors and problems
any idea plz shed some light on this
need your experience regarding the optimal solution to install linux along with Windows OS
    thanks and regards,

    Hi,
Q: what is the best way to install Linux ( redhat, oracle enterprise ,etc)
A: Almost no difference between Redhat and Oracle Enterprise Linux. But Oracle has patched some additional patches for Oracle database based on Redhat released Enterprise Linux. If you would have subscribed Oracle Unbreakable Linux Network(ULN), which make it easier to update the system and deploy Oracle database. For more details refer to http://linux.oracle.com
Q: On primary partition or logical partition ? and why?
A: Your boot partition ought to be a primary partition, not a logical partition. So if you want to boot your operating system from the drive you are about to partition, it should be installed on primary partition. Otherwise, you can install it on logical partition.
Q: why im asking this becoz i installed linux more than 3 times lately and i always ended up with GRUB errors and problems
A: For this issue, what kind of GRUB error had you experienced? What the result after re-installing the grub?
    Happy new year!

  • MIDI CONTROLLERS WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOSE AND WHY?

    Between M-Audio 8v2 , M-Audio 02 , M-AUDIO 49E and M-Audio axiom 25. Which one of these would you choose and why?

    The Axiom 25.
For the rotary encoders, pads and memory.
I'd take this over the 49 because both of the keyboards will be pitiful and your better of getting a full size board with hammer action if its about the "piano" feel. These things are great to have at hand when fiddling with synths while setting up in logic.

  • Which CC do you prefer and why?

    Choices are:
    Built-in CC effects of PR
    SpeedGrade
    RedGiants Magic Bullet
Synthetic Aperture Color Finesse (requires QT)
Given the 4 options shown above, what are your preferences and why? I know this is a broad question, but I would be interested to hear your opinions.

Hmm. I am not sure how to answer. Back when I used CS3 I used Magic Bullet and I had no direct experience with the others at that time.
Magic Bullet is easier to use, in my opinion, but that is not always going to make it the right choice.

  • RFC and Webservice which one i should use and why?

    Hi,
I have to write a extractor program in BI which would be fetching a huge data from CRM.
I have two options to achieve this targer.
1-> Create a RFC which will give me all the data
2-> Create a Webservice in CRM and use it in BI
Please advice me , which way i should go and advantage of that way.
    Regards
    PG

    Hi,
If amount of data is huge then it is recomnded to use RFC because of its speed and reliability. Webservice not yet proven good for extracting and handling very large chunk of data.

  • Which DVD media to buy - or + DVD

Hi all. Not sure which blank DVD's I should be buying. Have a new iMac, and I think the specs are that it will burn both + and - DVD's. Am just making home movies, captured from mini-DV camcorder, putting onto DVD to watch in the DVD player on our home theatre. I think the write speed for - and + DVD on the iMac is 8X, so is there any benefit to buying new DVD's that are 16X? Or just buy the 8X -R DVD's? I'm looking at Verbatim, heard a lot of good things about their blank DVD's. Can buy a 25 spindle of 8X -R for $5, thought thats a good deal, but thought I'd better check that I'm getting the right thing. Thanks!

The DVD-R format is slightly more compatible than DVD+R disks, and there is no benefit to using 16x disks in an 8x burner.

  • Which Mini DisplayPort to buy and how to use it?

I am not technology savvy what so ever, so please bear with me.
I have a 13" aluminum MacBook that I bought on Christmas 2008. I love it and it is in great condition, but now I would like to buy some accessories to go along with it.
I am looking to hook my MacBook up to my TV because I'd like to be able be able to view my videos and photos on my TV screen to show to my family and friends. What Mini DisplayPort will do this?
I was told I need to figure out my TV's connection before I buy a Mini DisplayPort. Well... I'm not even sure about this either. Here is the information about my TV:
    - Apex GT2715DV 27-Inch Pure Flat TV/DVD Combo
    - Coaxial digital-audio output passes Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel signals for immersive surround sound (with a compatible AV receiver)
    - HDTV Compatible: N
On the back of the TV there are 3 sets of 3 plugs - all having the colors red, white, and yellow (this is where I usually hook up my Playstation). Hopefully this information gives you the information you need to determine what the connection is and what Mini DisplayPort I need (and hopefully my TV isn't too old!).
Someone referred me to this product: to http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A
Yet I am confused because while I know one end hooks up to the MacBook - how does the other end hook up to this TV? There is no plug in the TV similar to that - is there another piece I have to buy?
Told you all, I am not technology savvy at all. Thank you for reading and if you can help me out, it is so much appreciated

As far as I know daisy chaining adapters will not work for the MiniDisplay port. http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8300784#8300784
You will need to buy both adapters, the MiniDisplay to DVI and a MiniDisplay to VGA. I would also suggest you voice your opinion at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbookpro.html and let them know how you feel about needing to purchase an adapter when one should be included with the computer purchase.

  • Need a to know which dvd drive to buy

    Hi
i want to replace my dvd drive.
correctly i'm using: OPTIARC DVD RW AD-7170A (sony-nec).
i have problems with that drive and i want to replace it to something better and that works.
i need to know which one will b compatible to my system.
    thanks
    niv

Take a close look at the flat cable. It iv very easy to cut or nick it when reinstalling the drive mounting bracket. With two drives, Option-Erect should open the lower drive. Make sure both power cables are securely connected to the drives. If you can't get it to work with two drives, try just the new drive to see if it works. Set it to CS (Cable Select) and use the end connector on the flat cable.

  • Which DVD's to buy

I have a new MBP with Aperture. What type of DVD's should I get for thansfer of photos. Can the super-drive handle all of the various DVD formats?

Choose "About This Mac" and then click "More Info" and then look under "Disc Burning" in the System Profiler. You'll see something like:
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW
Most Macs these days read and write any format, although I've had better luck with DVD-R. Also be aware that dual layer (DL) discs are expensive, so don't buy those unless your machine explicility can handle them and you need the extra space per disc.
