Simple shape in white not printing

I've never seen this before. I have a simple white shape with a logo on top.
The shape itself sits on a coloured background.
So far I only used this in a document and exported it as a pdf.
But today I had to print the document and now it turns out it doensn't
print the shape. I did a few tests in ID and AI. When I colour the shape
any other colour then white it prints but as soon I colour it back to white
the shape doesn't print anymore. I have a native postscript 3 printer.
What on earth could be wrong?

You might be interested in a plug-in called WhiteOP2KO (White Overprint To Knockout), from www.worker72a.com, that checks for White overprint in CMYK documents. They offer several versions with varying features (a free version that checks and puts up a findings dialog, a slightly less than free version that checks but doesn't say anything unless it finds something, and then a more full featured version that can actually fix problems).

  • HP Envy 5530 & Windows 8.1 : Does not print the whole document

Hello, I cannot seem to print an entire document longer than 3 pages with the HP Envy series & Windows 8.1 from any of my programs.  It will stop after a handful of pages (randomized with which page it stops at), with a simple error message, "Could not print document."  This goes for double sided as well as single sided pages.  It doesn't matter if it is color or b/w.  I first had the Envy 4500 and did everything I could to fix the issue.  I uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers using both CD and online installers and ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor, which could not find any issues.  The Network Configuration page & Test print pages were also fine.  I tried printing immediately & printing once everything has spooled.  Nothing worked. I finally gave up and upgraded to the 5530 in hopes that it was an incompatible driver.  However, I am still having the same issues, despite the "all clear" from the Print & Scan Doctor.  Please help!-ebdsnyder

Hi there, The only thing I can recommend at the moment would be to setup another instance of the network printer. Firstly I would recommnd setting up the printer with a Fixed IP address as if the IP address were to change later the printer would stop working. Then go into the Control Panel (use Windows Key and X and choose Control Panel from the menu that appears) and choose Devices and Printers. Click in the printers area and choose Add Printer. When the next screen comes up the computer, the system will search the local network and display any printers that are found on the network.  Choose the Envy 5530 and click next The computer will then add a network port and ask you to choose the driver. Choose use driver that is currently installed. The computer will then ask you to Name the printer, choose a descriptive name that will help you identify it later. The computer will then ask you if you want to share the printer, I would recommnd not sharing it for now. The computer will then ask if you want to set this as the default printer, this choice is up to you. Click print a test page to check that the printer works and then click finish. After this you will have an extra printer icon for your device.  I would recommend going into the Printer Properties on this new device and change the printer driver to the one that does not have the words Class driver after it (The Class driver is a cut down in OS version of the complete driver). This can be done from the Printer Properties advanced tab. I hope this all makes sense. Good luck and if you have any question please post them back here and I will try and help you out.

  • I can not print black and white only documents and I have a full black ink cartridge

I have been an loyal HP customer since the orginal laserjet in the early 90s and then many inkjets from HP after that.
I bought an HP 6600 All in one for the house and have only ever printed in black and white.
For some reason one of the color ink carts is empty after a few months of black and white only printing.   No problem - I only print in black and white - or so I thought.
Nothing I have been able to do (aside from buying a color cart I don't need) is able to tell the printer to not worry about color and only use the black and white cart.  Past inkjets from HP didn't have a problem with this.
Please tell me HP didn't do this on purpose and is going to trying and justify the need for me to buy any color carts if I never print in color.  HP - if you did and you are going to try and tell me you neeeded to do this for any reason then someone please sign me up for the class action lawsuit if you are an attorney looking for plaintiffs.
However, I am sure I am overlooking some simple setting on the 6600 to move past this annoyance.
    Thanks!

    Hi Atlanta90210,
We appreciate your brand loyalty, and I'm very sorry for the frustration this has caused.
There is a lot of good information in Cannot Print When One of the HP Ink Cartridges is Empty. It explains how your printer works and how it is designed. Another good resource is posted here.
In the first link I mentioned, there are steps to print with black ink only. I have a similar printer to this at home (with the same print mech), and I have found that the steps to print with black ink only have saved me lots of ink.
There needs to be ink in all the cartridges for this printer to continue printing (after the cartridge's reserve mode is depleted). Once you have replaced the empty cartridges, you can change the print settings to print with only black ink so the printer doesn't use color ink. Until then, there is not a way to bypass this.
I know this is not the answer you were hoping to receive, but I do hope it was helpful.
I'd be happy to help you with any other questions or concerns.

  • Print in Black and White, NOT GRAYSCALE!

    Hello,
I'm trying to print on my Mac in Black and White -- NOT grayscale.  The printer I'm using is a thermal printer that prints on heat-sensitive card-stock (a DataMax E-4203 printer) and when I print bar-codes on there the edges of the bar-codes are "fuzzy" as the Mac tries to convert it into a grayscale image instead of a pure black-and-white image.  With the edges being fuzzy instead of crisp, the bar-code scanner device I have simply cannot read the bar-codes.  If I use the software on a Windows machine, it prints the bar-codes perfectly, because in Windows I can set the printer to be Black and White, instead of Grayscale..
So, on a Mac (Mac Pro, OS X 10.7.3) how do I set it to print in pure Black and White, not Grayscale?
Thanks for any help you can give me,

You're taking a rather large loss on a new computer and spending the money on another one to fix one issue on an obscure piece of hardware? Do this instead.
    1) Cancel the order on the Dell.
    2) Use Boot Camp to install Windows on your Mac Pro. WAY less expensive to buy a copy of Win 7 to run on your Mac than the money you're planning to flush down the drain.
    3) Get on the lazy butts of the company that make your thermal printer to write a Mac driver that has all of the same settings and features of the Windows driver. Which may not be easy as their site marks the printer you have as discontinued, though still supported.
DataMax has one heck of a crappy site. I've looked around a dozen pages and can't find something as simple as print drivers to download.
Yes, DataMax's web-site is awful... But they don't support the Mac at all, so even if their web-site was great, you'd never find Mac drivers to download...  The Mac driver for this printer comes from a company called the Peninsula Group, and they write drivers for dozens of different thermal printers...  They claim that they cannot write a driver that has all the features of the DataMax Windows driver, because of limitations of the CUPS printing system on the Mac...  I claim that's B.S., but how am I going to prove otherwise?
I considered running the Mac in Windows BootCamp mode all the time -- but then what's the point in owning a Mac?  Originally I was happy to be making the switch from PC to Mac...  But everything (not just printing, but nearly everything I do) is more difficult on a Mac...  Owning this machine has been the worst computing experience I've ever had...  No joke..  I've never had such trouble doing what I want to do...  Nothing works the way it should work.  Nothing.
If I had been using Macs all along, then perhaps I'd feel differently...  But everything is so different on a Mac, that I just can't seem to get used to it...  For crying out loud, the Home and End keys don't even work right!!  I hit End and I expect the cursor to go to the end of the LINE, not the end of the DOCUMENT!  (End of the document is what Ctrl+End is for, dammit!)  What the **** is up with that?!  And scrolling is wrong, too...  It scrolls up when I pull down on the mouse-scroll.  Everything is backwards on the Mac...  I've truly grown to hate it the more I use it...  I'll not be buying another Mac, if I can help it...  Wish I'd never bought this one...  Call it a very expensive lesson learned...

  • Setting White not to print

    Hi,
I have a complex illustartor CS4 document. When it prints I want only black to be printed. Any other areas should be unprinted - the stock will show through. The document contains a large number of shapes and numerous layers with black strokes and fills, but it also contains a number of shapes with white fills. I need these shapes to be filled because they hide the shapes behind them, however I don't want them to print as white fills. I just want them to hide what is below them.
How can I set this up to print correctly?

How are you printing?  Under most circumstances, white = paper.
The exception being a spot white color, which unless you went out of your way to make, should not be an issue.  Spot colors are indicated in the swatches panel as swatches with a small dot in the lower right corner.

my printer is Hp printer 932C it will only print in black and white not color I got a new color cartage nothing still only printing in back and whit what can i do

There are a few things to check:
Make sure the blue tape has been removed from the nozzle plate.
Print a diagnostic page as shown in method 4 here.  Does this page print color?  If so the issue may be your driver settings.  Check for a "Print in grayscale" setting and uncheck this box.

In using Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional I have added oval shapes to a form, but they do not print.  How do I get all shapes to print?
I am using a Dell PC with Windows 7 Professional as the Operating System.

File > Page Setup = Scale
The Scale control is what controls the size of what is printed to paper. 100% is usually the best setting.

Hi , I read your post and see that the magenta cartridge started making sounds as a defective cartridge,  you replaced it with the black cartridge and it was rejected. You are using over ride and still can't print. I would like to help you.
You have to replace the cartridges for the marked cartridges in the printer.Over ride will allow you to continue printing until one of the toners are completely empty & then will have to be replaced to continue printing. Basically this setting is for you to finish the print job. You will have to replace the magenta cartridge in order to resume printing. If you appreciate my efforts, please click the 'Thumbs up' button below. Thank You.

  • Officejet Pro 8500 A910 Not Printing & Heads won't clean.

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910. It has not been used for about 2 months until yesterday, but was left powered on. The Black, Yellow and Cyan carts were getting a bit low and my wife want to print a few dozen pages of black text. I had a HP 940 Black cart to hand so I replaced it. She printed about 2 dozen Word pages in draft format which uses less ink. They printed OK, but when she went to print more, the print got fainter with each page until they were coming out of the printer totally blank then when the cyan ran out the printer stopped printing blank pages all together. I installed new HP Cyan and Yellow carts, but the printer continued to spit out blank pages. I printed a Quality Diagnostic Page and it showed one column of blocks in Test Pattern 2 missing completely and some white streaks in at least one of the colored blocks. At this point the Ink cart levels were K=90, Y=90, M=50, C=90. The Print Head Health was KY=Good, MC=Good. At this point I ran an Alignment and the report showed all colors except Cyan which was completely missing. I had remembered from a few year ago, that this is one simple way to show if color heads were not printing. I then performed 3 successive level 1, 2 and 3 cleanings, and each time the cleaning report showed less color until only faint yellow showed on the printout. Also the alignment now only shows faint traces of yellow.  I suspect the heads need to be either replaced or removed and cleaned manually. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks very much in advance. Peter B.

Hey , Welcome to the HP forums! I hope you enjoy your stay here. I see that you are having some issues with printing from your Officejet 8500A. I can help with that. This document outlines how to troubleshoot print quality issues with your printer. If that fails then this document will assist you with cleaning the printhead. If after following those documents then the printer itself is going to need to be replaced. You can contact HP support by clicking on this link. On the next page scroll to the bottom and fill out the form. When that is completed you will find some information on how to contact HP directly. If this resolves your issues then please let others know by clicking on Accept as Solution below my post.
I hope this helps and I hope you have a great day!

  • Different ways to paint inside of a shape that is not closed

    1. One segment of a path is not closed and I want to fill the shape with a color. How would you handle this? Just draw a line and join it together with the rest of the shape so you can apply a fill? OR would you do this differently?
    2. Isn't there some tool that also allows you to paint inside shapes that are not closed?
    Thanks.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
So is the whole idea behind Live Paint that it will somehow complete a shape with paint even if the path is not there?
No. The paths have to "be there." The whole idea of Live Paint is to allow the user to apply fills and strokes according to what visually appears to be contiguous bounds of filled/unfilled and/or colored/uncolored regions. In other words, to apply fills and strokes as if the visual appearance of paths actually were the shapes of the paths.
    Example 1:
Draw a tic-tac-toe board. Four stroked unfilled open paths. Now you know these paths are not connected, and there is no actual rectangular closed path in the middle "square" to which you can apply a normal fill. But the four strokes appear to form a square that you could fill. LivePaint acts as if that square was there, and fills it. (Under the table, LivePaint is actually creating a "virtual" or "live" rectangle that corresponds to the visible white space surronded by your original four paths. You can see this by Expanding the LivePaint group.)
    Example 2:
Draw two partially-overlapping unstroked circles with the same solid fill. Now you know these two circles are separate paths; there is no actual "figure 8" path. But there appears to be a figure 8 -shaped path just because the two circles have same-colored fills. LivePaint can act as if that "figure 8" path is actually there, and fill it all at once (by doubleClicking). In this case, the expanded result will be three separate closed paths with the same fill, not one figure 8-shaped path. So now instead of having two overlapping paths that look like a single figure 8 path, you have three non-overlapping paths that look like a figure 8-shaped path.
So LivePaint does act upon paths that "are there." It performs path-combination operations to create new paths (sort of like Pathfinders) based upon the stroke and/or fill "boundaries" that you visually see; but it does so in a "live" fashion, in an attempt to make it feel more like flood-filling in a raster image program, and in an attempt to make the auto-created shapes themselves remain "live" even as you alter the original paths.
Sometimes its behavior is intuitive. Other times, it is not.
Illustrator is neither the first nor the only vector drawing program to provide this kind of function. Other vector drawing programs provide flood-fill and flood-stroke features, but do so in a more straightforward manner, not overly-complicating (and confusing) the matter by trying to make too much a "live effect." Illustrator sometimes tends to go overboard with the whole "live effect" thing, and the result is a feature ostensibly designed to make the program more "intuitive" for newcomers, yet becomes more confusing.
Regardless whether you use "live" effect features or not, a serious vector illustrator needs to know what objects will ultimately and actually exist, especially when destined for commercial print. That is, in Example 2, it's up to the user to decide whether it's more appropriate to the intended purpose to end up with two separate overlapping paths that look like a single figure 8, three separate "kissing" paths that look like a figure 8, or one path that actually is in the shape of a figure 8. That's why I've never been particularly enamoured with features like LivePaint. They encourage newcomers to disregard how things are actually built in favor of what things merely "look like" on screen.

  • Reverse logo not printing

I have a BW logo created in Illustrator that contains shapes and outlined type. When I reverse the black and white sections of the logo -- in order to make a reverse logo to run on top of a black background -- several portions no longer print. As in not not even showing up in my print settings viewer and not showing up on the paper.
If you go to www.wga.org, you will see the logo is a box on top of a stroked box with type on top of the first box and next to it. (This is just to show you the logo; I am working on a print project, not on the Web page.) It is the stroke and the words to the right of the boxes that are not printing.
Do you have any suggestions on where I should go with this? TIA
