Simple timeline question making a movie.
Total novice here.
I have a movie that has several layers.
I want to add layers and time to the begining of the film and
I don't know how to do it without having to move everything already
in the timeline one at a time down the line.
Can you tell me how to do this?

Just select all layers at your first frame and add blank
frames by pressing F5. All following frames (and keyframes) will
"move to the right" in sync then.

After making a movie and wanting to burn a DVD, I go for iDVD in the 'DEEL' menu. After couple of seconds I get the question ' where is iDVD?

Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. -

How Do I Mask everything so all I see is the Content on the Stage?
I have a wide image that extends past my movies stage size so when I preview my movie the image is visible. How do I mask out anything that extends past my movies window size? I believe I can create a layer named "mask" and place it above all other layers, but I forget how to make the mask. Any help is appreciated.
How to Fade a Graphic
I have a graphic element (some type) and I want it to fade from 0% to 100%. In older versions of Flash I could just select the symbol and then set it's alpha value to 0%, move a few keyframes and then set the alpha to 100%. Voila! but now it doesn't seem to work that way. How can I do this in CS5?Ned, it says 24 fps which means there is 24 frames per second so each 24 frames is 1 second.

1 You can create your character as a movieclip and copy/paste that movieclip from one file to another. 2. One way to create a movieclip is to copy all the frame of the animation's timeline (select them all, right click the selection, choose Copy Frames), then create a new movieclip symbol (Insert -> New Symbol...etc) right click on its only keyframe and chhose Paste Frames. THat will put all the layers and frames you copied into the movieclip The only way to come close to being certain about the timing of you animation is to use code to keep track of the time, something like getTimer().. The frame rate that a file plays at is not a reliable means of dictating the time it takes due to a variety of factors which include the amount of content you are trying to process and performance limits of the user's machine.

I am making a movie on iMovie for a math project but when I try to share it on iDVD it says there is an error (-50)???

a) the TermsOfUse of the iTS don't allow any processing of purchased files, these are "copy protected"..
b) iM has a voice-over function..
c) iM is a video-edit app.. easy to use... just learn to handle it...
d) iM allows to "extract" audio (=muting the original audio, adding your own..)
e) to learn iM, spend some time here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/imovie/index.html
f) use pencil and paper first! WRITE and scribble, what shall happen when in your movie/parody... make a script, draw a storyboard .. THEN launch iM.. in other words: think first, then edit.. iM is just a tool, it does not "create"... Picasso needed a papertowel and half a stencil to create art....
g) to get comfortable with iM, start with your own, small, short (3min!) project... import some stills, edit them, add a funny voice-over, add sounds, add music... good? make a bigger one...
h) .. in our Lecture II, we teach you how to import shows from TV, youtube, wherever..

I am making a movie from still pictures. I used no theme and then started adding pictues. When I played it back, all was well. Then I added a few more pictures and some sound. When I play iot back it plays just so far and then the sound continues, but the screen turns green or the pictures break up into colors.
Sorry, everyone. I think I may have figured out what it was all down to...........
I had left the IDE ribbon cable plugged into my third HDD, with the power cable unplugged. I did this so as not to endanger my years of work on the third drive, until Windows had setup. I have in the past, accidentally chosen the wrong partiton to format, so this seemed a good way to avoid it from then on.
This was not a problem on my old system, but it seems this system doesn't like it.
I must have left the drive completely unplugged, the times Windows did setup. Amazing really. I couldn't see the woods for the trees.
Anyway, I'm sorry to have bothered everyone with my problem.

I am using IDE drives until I can afford SATA. But many thanks for the heads-up on the NF4-SATA compliance, I'll be sure to bare that in mind.
I didn't actually check the NVRAID/IDE ROM version before updating the bios, so I have no idea if the revision was changed when Liveupdate flashed the Bios, I'm afraid. I didn't know they would be updated at the same time.

I pressed on the green screen button, but the second clip didn't play next to the first, and only the audio played. I tried agian with some different clips, and only some of them worked. YOU need to - in iMovie - Turn on Advanced Tools !
top row menu - with an Apple top left ---> iMovie ---> down to preferences ---> Here select to turn on Advanced tools .
Now it will work when You drop a clip onto another IN a MOVIE PROJECT ! (can not be done in Event's)
Next problem I had - was to get right clip onto the other - what was the Background and What was the Green screen - BUT just test - You only got two ways to try out.

I am making the move to VISTA on my primary development machine. I develope in LV 7.1 8.0 and 8.21 concurently. Is there any issues to be aware of? Many clients will still run the software on XP and a few on 2000. Will daqMX and Labview compiled programs work seamlessly. I would like to hear about similar experiences so I can mentally prepare for the troubles ahead, or not if we are all lucky. I gave it 6 months. I have not found any issues yet but have not distribudet my code to cilents either. Have I made a mistake?

Labview 4.0- 2013, RT, Vision, FPGAOn three machines it worked one client it did not. I will try setting the compatability, do I do this with the vista machine and send it with the mode already set. There is no daq and the 8.21 runtime is on the machine. I dont know what could be different on the client machine. the code which froze was purly user event, no daq, no tool kits, no communications, no analysis in this part of the code. Are there some visual effects or something else which could have been set by my vista PC that some XP boxes cant handle. The code does load and begins to execute but hangs on this popup vi. Very weird.

When add is true, I must add a constant value to each element in the array.
When add is false, I must subtract a constant value to each element in the array.
Assume this is very hot code, i.e. it is called very often. How expensive is the condition checking? I present the two scenarios.

Right-click on the clip (or Control-click) and see if it offers to optimize. If so, say Yes.
You can also right-click on the clip in the Event and see if it offers to optimize. If so, say Yes.
If it does not, come back and I will give you a different way to optimize.
If you want to understand what is going on when you optimize, your camera shoots in a very compressed format. This is usually either AVCHD, h.264, or MPEG2. These are called Long GOP (group of pictures) compression techniques. See my post here for why it is good to convert to i-frames (or optimize) before editing.

Making a movie, mostly SLR stills with multiple small video clips...

I have made multiple movies on PC's and had fairly good results with DVD output. I also used iMovie 06 with decent results when shared to iDVD. Now with iMovie 08 to iDVD the DVD looks like you are looking through cellophane. I tried many different settings/options with poor results before deciding I need something different. I want my movies to at least look average when put to DVD.
FCE looks to be a good contender, but reading through the 7 pages of posts I am not sure it is great for using SLR stills in a large number. I am making a movie with possibly 500 stills and am going to "interject" maybe 20-30 short videos shot from multiple cameras...
Reading one of the posts someone recommended Photo to Movie for stills... I am just wondering;
A. Put my Stills together with Photo to Movie. It looks like they have an export option to FCE.
B. Import the movie to FCE and then "cut in" the rest of the videos into the desired spots.
C. Add titles, chapters, lettering, etc.
D. Send to iDVD.
Has anyone had experience doing this, or is there a better option....??? Will FCE do all of this without Photo to Movie...?? AM I SPINNING MY WHEELS....?? lol...

Daryl...I am becoming very cavalier in my attitude to video (and most other things) and get extremely high quality results with digital stills simply by importing them straight from the camera (5MP JPEGs) and mixing them with video as required.
Whilst you will get very good quality, be aware that it will not be as good as viewing your slides on a computer using something like iPhoto's slideshow facility.
This is because your computer will reproduce every pixel (assuming your monitor is large enough!) whilst anything put into FCE (or any other video editing app) will be reduced to the dimensions of DV which is either 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL).
This is a tremendous reduction from even a small 5MP photo which will be around 2400x1800, so it's quite surprising that results are as good as they are.
You won't be able to go close to the TV screen to view fine detail as there won't be any there!
But viewed from six feet or so the results should be very good. -
When making a movie with iMovie from Photos, some of them seems to move when watching on screen or TV.

The movement you see on photos in iMovie is most likely the Ken Burns motion effect, which you can modify or turn off.
