Simple two node Cluster Install - Hung after reboot of first node

Hello,
Over the past couple of days I have tried to install a simple two node cluster using two identical SunFire X4200s, firstly following the recipe in: http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/howtoguides/twonodecluster.jsp
and when that failed referring to http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-0912 and http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2970.
I am trying to keep the install process as simple as possible, no switch, just back to back connections for the internal networking (node1 e1000g0 <--> node2 e1000g0, node1 e1000g1 <--> node2 e1000g1)
I ran the installer on both X4200s with default answers. This went through smoothly without problems.
I ran scinstall on node1, first time through, choosing "typical" as suggested in the how to guide. Everything goes OK (no errors) node2 reboots, but node1 just sits there waiting for node2, no errors, nothing....
I also tried rerunning scinstall choosing "Custom", and then selecting the no switch option. Same thing happened.
I must be doing something stupid, it's such a simple setup! Any ideas??
Here's the final screen from node1 (dcmds0) in both cases:

I have found out why the install hung - this needs to be added into the install guide(s) at once!! - It's VERY frustrating when an install guide is incomplete!
The solution is posted in the HA-Cluster OpenSolaris forums at:
http://opensolaris.org/os/community/ha-clusters/ohac/Documentation/SCXdocs/relnotes/#bugs
In particular, my problem was that I selected to make my Solaris install secure (A good idea, I thought!). Unfortunately, this stops Sun Cluster from working. To fix the problem you need to perform the following steps on each secured node:
Problem Summary: During Solaris installation, the setting of a restricted network profile disables external access to network services that Sun Cluster functionality uses, ie: The RPC communication service, which is required for cluster communication
Workaround: Restore external access to RPC communication.
Perform the following commands to restore external access to RPC communication.
# svccfg
svc:> select network/rpc/bind
svc:/network/rpc/bind> setprop config/local_only=false
svc:/network/rpc/bind> quit
# svcadm refresh network/rpc/bind:default
# svcprop network/rpc/bind:default | grep local_only
Once I applied these commands, the install process continued ... AT LAST!!!

    Dear all hello
I have installed 11.5.9 on win2k and it was ok but after reboot when it did not listen on 8000 port so i tried to inspect services and found oracle apacke server vis(instance name) is not started but when i try to start it, it says colud not start as it is some windows internal error.
    Any help.
    Thanks

    hi
this is not the best approach , instead it is advisable to look in event viewer , which gives the best reason for not starting. It also provides the event id and error related info , which can be used to get the answer from microsoft support.

  • Ios 7.0.3 was updated and installed but after reboot it was still in 7.0.2

i'm unable to update from ios 7.0.2 to ios 7.0.3 which is the latest version for my iphone 4 but it isn't updating from 7.0.2 to 7.0.3 after rebooting
please help me what might be the problem

I believe in the initial iOS 7.0.0 release, the "Reduce Motion" only affected the Parallax effect. iOS 7.0.3 now affects both the Parallax effect as well as zoom effect. Disabling motion now changes the zoom effect to a fade effect while the Parallax feature remains the same.

  • 2008 iMac hung after reboot.  Recently installed Mountain Lion.

My 2008 iMac will not reboot after freezing.  I had recently added additional RAM to get to 6GB prior to upgrading to Mountain Lion.  Everything was fine for two days.  However, yesterday Bluetooth was dropped and not showing as being avaialable (managed to fix that).  This morning it froze and will not reboot.  I am getting the grey screen of death even after trying to reboot in safe mode.
I have also tried an SMC reset with no luck.
    Any suggestions?

For what it's worth a situation very similar to yours happened to my 2007 iMac last Saturday. Thanks to Time Machine I was able to erase my hard drive then restore it from a back up. However in no time flat, after I'd opened a few apps, it crashed again. When I attempted another restore it crashed *during* it (grey screen of death!) and I had to conclude my iMac's hard drive had died.
I've since heard, from both an Apple Store Genius and the techies who replaced my busted drive, that an iMac's hard drive lifespan is often around 3 years.
Maybe your hard drive has died?
    Good luck! It's very frustrating.

  • Problem instaling sp3 after rebooting

    Hi,
I've decided to install in my macbook pro windows xp sp3 to program with visual studio c++.
What I have done is, first of all, install windows xp sp2 using an original cd, instaling the drivers and boot camp 2.0. After that I install the actualitzation to bootcamp 2.1.
When I complete all these stuff I run the windows update, check if my windows copy is originaly and immidiately it tells to me to install sp3. I install it and when at the end of the instalation it force to me to reboot the system, so I do it. But when the system is loading for the first time after installing sp3 it gets stack in the loading image.
Do you know how can I solve that problem??
    Thanks a lot

Use the Repair feature in Programs -> Install/Uninstall seems to help some.
I get the sense that reinstalling BC 2.1 after SP3 install is necessary. Or don't install until SP3 (maybe uninstall BC 2.1, then upgrade to XP SP3, then install 2.1 again).

  • Screen backlight off during 10.5 install and after reboot?

    Hi there,
I'm having an interesting issue with my MBP after Leopard installation. Interestingly, it started with the actual installation itself -- when I rebooted into the install process, the backlight on the display was off and I couldn't turn it on/make it brighter with the keyboard commands. I went ahead with the install, and the same problem now happens when I reboot the machine -- the backlight is off until the OS boots fully and I'm logged into my account, and then the keyboard works to brighten the screen.
Any ideas? I've searched the forums and haven't found anything helpful...
    Thanks!

  • New Howto guide available: HOW to INSTALL and CONFIGURE A TWO-NODE CLUSTER

    Hi,
I am not sure that this has been posted or not. But for all of us who are too lazy (like myself) to read the full set of documentation, or who have not enough time, please have a look at this short document with screen shots that explains how to setup a simple two-node cluster.
    http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/howtoguides/twonodecluster.jsp
I still recommend to browse through the "Sun Cluster Concepts Guide for Solaris OS" http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-0421
    Have fun
    Hartmut

I am afraid there is no such document. But I can try to give you some hints.
N+1 can be seen as two things:
    - the phsical setup of the cluster and
    - the logical configuration of services
A physical N+1 setup would mean, that you have one server that is connected to all shared storage, but the other N nodes are only connected to the shared storage they need.
This configuration would also need the logical N+1 setup, namely that all HA services could only run on 2 nodes, their primary node and as a backup this one dedicated node that is connected to all shared storage.
If you do not have the physical N+1 setup, you could easily have a logical N+1 setup, by having a N*N topology, j.e. all nodes connected to all storage, but logically each service again would have only 2 nodes on its nodelist.
It seems that the second option is the one that is used more often, as ift offers you the ability to reconfigure things in case of failures.
With regards to asymmetric and symmetric I am not quite sure what you mean: And I do not think that these terms are used in the SC docs.
What I can think of is, that asymmetric means that you have one node being active with 1 or more HA services and have one inactive secondary node as a backup.

  • Firefox 8.0.1 asks to reboot before taking effect; after rebooting it says the same thing, etc

firefox puts me in a continuous loop saying I need to reboot before finishing install. After rebooting it says the same thing. I even tried to remove the program but it puts me in the same loop.

Open the Mozilla Firefox installation directory (e.g., C:\Program Files\'''Mozilla Firefox''') and delete the file '''firefox.exe.moz-upgrade'''.
If you still can't start Firefox, do a clean reinstall (use another browser to download the Firefox installer from www.mozilla.org/firefox and, after first removing the Mozilla Firefox installation directory, reinstall Firefox).

  • 11gR1 1 node won't join the cluster after reboot.

This is a high level description of a problem.
We usually run a two node cluster.
This week we had an issue where one node needed to be taken down. It became non responsive and upon reboot the other node no longer functioned correctly.
So one node was left running until the maintenance window.
Apparently when it's brought back up it has the MAC of the second node in the arp cache.
This leads to node1 not being able to join the cluster.
I've seen workarounds that involve refreshing the arp cache but is there anything else to this?

  • Cluster node fails after testing removing both interconnects in a two node

    Hi,
cluster node panics and fails to join cluster after testing removing both interconnects in a two node cluster. cluster is up on one node , but the panic'ed node fails to rejoin cluster saying no sufficient quorum yet and both clinterconn failed (even after conencting the interconn). Quorum device used is a shared disk.
    Is this a bug?
    Any workaround or solution?
    Cluster is 3.2 SPARC
    Thanking you
    Ushas Symon

Sounds like a networking problem to me. If the failed node genuinely can't communicate with the remaining node then it will not be allowed to join the cluster, hence the quorum message. I would suspect either:
    * Misconnected cables
    * A switch that has block or disabled the port
    * A failed auto-negotiation
This is of course without knowing anything about what your network infrastructure actually is!

To be specific I have to install Database control .that means I need to use the GUI .
Also I could see database control and DBconsole service on on 1st node but I cannot find that in 2nd node. That is the normal configuration - you use the DB Control from node 1 and it gets the information using the agent on Node 2. The DB Console then displays the information for both nodes.
Please note that the DB Control will place a relatively heavy load on each machine, which is why we want to restrict our load to the agent. It is for that reason that we prefer to use the Grid Control whenever possible - it provides the same mechanism and screens, but the JEE platform is on a separate machine and all you have on the RAC nodes is the agent.
But if you really want to run the DB Console from each node (again, not normally needed) you need to use emca to configure it on the second node. Metalink note 863631.1 should help you with that.

    Hi all,
I am testing HA-NFS(Failover) on two node cluster. I have sun fire v240 ,e250 and Netra st a1000/d1000 storage. I have installed Solaris 10 update 6 and cluster packages on both nodes.
I have created one global file system (/dev/did/dsk/d4s7) and mounted as /global/nfs. This file system is accessible form both the nodes. I have configured ha-nfs according to the document, Sun Cluster Data Service for NFS Guide for Solaris, using command line interface.
Logical host is pinging from nfs client. I have mounted there using logical hostname. For testing purpose I have made one machine down. After this step files tem is giving I/O error (server and client). And when I run df command it is showing
df: cannot statvfs /global/nfs: I/O error.
I have configured with following commands.
    #clnode status
    # mkdir -p /global/nfs
    # clresourcegroup create -n test1,test2 -p Pathprefix=/global/nfs rg-nfs
I have added logical hostname,ip address in /etc/hosts

  • Listener service not start automatically after reboot in Win2K server Clust

    Hi all,
I set up a two node Server Cluster with Microsoft Windows 2000 server cluster service. Hardware are two HP DL380 servers and HP MSA500 (the shared storage). The cluster's IP address is 10.1.241.65. When I shut down both servers and restart the primary server, the listener server service will not start automatically. The listener log is:
    Started with pid=1108
    Error listening on: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=10.1.241.65)(PORT=1521)))
TNS-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
    TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
TNS-00515: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
32-bit Windows Error: 49: Unknown error
The service is set up automatically start. I suspect the cluster virtual IP is not available immediately after reboot. So I tried setting the Recovery after first failure and second failure to 3 minitues each, and setting up Dependencies of the listener on the cluster service in the Win2K Service panel. Neither worked.
The service can be manually start.
    Any suggestion?
    Frank.

The command to start automatically the listener is :
    lsnrctl start
check the parameters in : <ORACLE_HOME>/network/admin/listener.ora

  • Failover cluster fails validation after a single node restart

I had a lab environment setup that works great, passes validation, can do live migrations without issue but as soon as I restarted one of the nodes, the then still live node became the only node able to access the storage backend. What's weird is that the restarted
node can still access the CSV storage and run VMs off of it, but the validation report is unable to list the actual disks.
My Cluster consists of 2 nodes. I have an iSCSI backed shared storage server and I can see that both of my nodes
are connected to the iSCSI targets successfully, but the node I first restarted no longer lists any disks/volumes in disk management and the once available MPIO menus are disabled in the iSCSI control panel. I also tried to restart the second node after the
first node came back but although the first node was up and running and had VMs on it, restarting the second node brought the entire cluster down. I see event IDs 1177, 1573, and 1069 appear in the Cluster Events log. When the second node came back up, the
cluster came back with it, but not the storage. Both nodes seem to display similar behavior in that they cannot access the storage backend. Now the storage is inaccessible by both nodes. I was able to get both nodes connected to the storage backend by
going to the iscsicpl and disconnecting all current connections to the iSCSI backend and adding them back. Doing the test again after bringing the storage back up resulted in the same behavior and this time redoing the iSCSI connections is not helping.
I think the issue here is that the first node I restarted is unable to see any disks/volumes from the storage backend only after joining the cluster and doing a restart. Before joining the cluster I did reboots on both nodes and both were able to connect to
the iSCSI backend without issue. It wasn't until after joining the cluster that node 1 became unable to access the storage backend after reboots. The validation report fails with "No disks were found on which to perform cluster validation tests. To correct
this, review the following possible causes: ..." although none of the suggestions seem applicable and the validation report was successful right before the restart of the node.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to further troubleshoot or resolve this issue?
I am using Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 on both nodes and they are joined to the same domain.

    Hi,
I don’t found the similar issue, please your storage compatible with server 2012R2, Update Network Card Drivers and firmware on both the Nodes, temporarily disable your AV
