Simplest iChat AV to Windows?

I wish to use iChat AV to let a client recieve only video and audio from an editing system. Here is the setup:
Editing system is on a seperate computer from iChat Mac.
We use a convertor box to make video and audio from edit system into a DV firewire stream which goes into the iChat Mac. This "replaces" the camera and micrphone. We have tested this setup successfully Mac to Mac.
Now we want to come up with an EASY way for a windows user to recieve only. What are our best options?
Thanks,
Jef

Hi J huey,
Also look at Showmacster
This can allow you to send Video file instead of the normal feed.
iChatUSBCam can also use a different feed and like Showmacster can send the desktop as feed.
iChatUSBCam will use the same feed it is set up with until you change it. I am not sure if it will accept a stream from somewhere else.
Showmacster can be swtiched between different cameras in preferences in it's pop out drawer but I don't know if it can accept a stream from outside this.
But from your post it seems you have done some work around this issue.
If you mean you want the PC end to be able to save the stream as a file then the suggestions in the other post would seem to be more likely.

  • Using iChat Server with Windows clients in an integrated Active Directory/Open Directory environment

A co-worker (Super Brent) and I were working on using iChat as an internal IM server after having used Openfire for a couple days. The reason for switching was basically that we had a Mac Mini Server that was available so we decided to take this on.
First problem: Knowing whether or not Kerberos was needed for AD/OD integration. We spent a ton of time on this, not knowing a huge amount about AD and with our server administrator on courses, we just kept poking at it and removed Kerberos.
For the AD/OD integration, we first bound the Mac Mini to our Active Directory server. We shut off LDAPv3 support as we only wanted to use the AD functionality. Additionally, we ensured that the search policy in Directory Utility only used Active Directory. Then we created an Open Directory master in the Open Directory service. We enabled a self-signed certificate and trusted it locally. After creating the iChat service, ensure that you use the self-signed SSL Certificate and set authentication to Standard. (no kerberos).
Second problem: Once this was complete, we started to test clients out. We were unable to successfully login using our AD credentials using Spark IM and Pandium IM. After trying nearly 100 different variations of server configs, we decided to try a new client. I installed Miranda IM on my Windows XP machine and tried a few different setups. It turned out that the magic potion was to make sure that the "resource" field was set to "Home" and use SSL for encryption. This resource setting was the deal breaker for the other IM clients as many of them such as Spark and Pandium do not have this as a login option.
We ended up using Pidgin IM as the Windows client of choice as it did have the resource variable and it's interface was the best suited for our environment and users.
I hope this helps someone out there as we spent days looking all over the internet trying to figure this out.
    Cheers,
    Frenchy and Super Brent

    Hi,
iChat Server is not something that I know a great deal about.
I tend to point people to the OS  X Server Communities and to look out for posts by Tim Harris.
Thanks for taking the time to post this.

  • Ichat 2 Aim(windows) they see me i don't see them!

Here is the skinny. My girlfirend goes to university about an hour from me. She has a Windows based computer using Aim. I have a new iMac Core duo with buit in iSight. We chat no problem, send files and everything. When I try to video conference with her the following happens. She can see me, hear me and see her self. I only see my self most of the time. Twice I have gotten a still shot of her but it is kinda choppy and frozen. I have been trying to figure this out for awhile now with no luck. I have disabled all the firewalls on my end and hers on her service pack 1 xp. I'm hoping someone will have some fresh idea's for me:) Thanks alot
    Cheers

    Hi Ryan,
    To quote that link
If you want the short version: open ports 5060, 5353, 5678, 16384-16403 for UDP and 5190, 5297, 5298 for both UPD and TCP.
This has an error that is not that crucial to the functioning of iChat. Port 5297 can be UDP only as it does not need TCP.
Alternatively you can use the UPnP setting in the Admistration tab as this is an On or Off setting and disable the Pot Forwarding options.
Can you log on to the AIM server ?

  • IChat AV Configuration Window Keeps Popping

    Fellow Mac Users,
*Every time I logout or reboot the computer, when I log back in iChat asks me to re-setup the AV screen.* I essentially have to type my name, and then click next/OK several times (bypassing the Jabber setup and camera test screen) and then it goes away and the buddy window opens.
Since I have iChat set as an auto-launch application thru the login items in System Preferences, this is quite annoying.
Also, once I'm logged in and do this once, I can quit/re-open iChat with no issues, doesn't ask again.
So, I wanted to see if it had something to do with the auto-launch, I removed it and rebooted. When I logged back in and chose the iChat icon in the menu bar and said "Available" the icon went dark with no problem. But, when I tried to initiate a chat or open the buddy list, boom - problem happens again.
The weird thing about it, is that it remembers my AIM user name/password (yes, using AIM user name not .Mac), and buddy list just fine. It's just convinced that I need to re-setup the AV part every time - as if I'm reconfiguring the iSight.
Anybody else have this problem or know how to get around it?

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? It may be of some help: iTunes 7 for Windows: iTunes has detected an audio configuration problem

  • Why does iChat re-open windows on launch?

Many times when I'm finished using iChat I will quit the application with a number of open chat windows. The next time I open iChat it re-creates those windows again, although they're all empty with none of the text that was in the windows when I quit the app.
Now, I don't WANT that old text; I have no reason to save my chats, but it annoys me to no end that every time I open iChat it brings back those blank windows. If I chose to SAVE all my chats then this might make sense, but since I don't care, why is it doing this? This is the only app I know that behaves like this.
I want to know how I can stop this behavior, so that every time I open iChat there are NO chat windows open at all. Just because I talked to someone yesterday doesn't necessarily mean I'll talk to that person again today. I don't see anything in the preferences to control this, and I don't want to have to close all my windows before quitting; that's ridiculous. Ideas anyone?

    HI,
If you are 10.6.2 I would download and Install th Combo version of the Update over what you have.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosxv1062updatecomb o.html
In these Blank windows I take it they are listing some reference to the Buddies that were involved as you say those you may have spoken yesterday are not always going to be spoken today (Or something close to that.)
If not, does using Show Participants reveal any other info ?
I may not post again 'til tomorrow my time

  • IChat opens empty windows upon startup

I just installed Snow Leopard, and now every time I open up iChat, up pop blank chat windows from the last time I used iChat. For example, let's say I were chatting with "johnappleseed." If I quit out of iChat and then reopen it, not only does my buddy list status bar thing pop up, but so does a blank chatwindow with "johnappleseed." How can I fix this?

    Hi,
    A Note on this:-
Closing/Quitting ichat with an Open chat whilst Save Transcripts is ticked but the "In new Chat..." is not will produce an reaction similar to iChat 4's Remember Open Chat Across Launch.
If the Chat is Quit first and the settings are as Defcom's Pic you get a blank chat with the details at the header part of the last chatee.
Having them both set will open the last chat (if Last Chat is chosen) to the Buddy you then select to Chat with - including any Group chat/Chatroom that person was in if that was the last chat with them.
I think it needs work to clarify the different actions.
It could do with an alert of message to say there was no Last Chat if the Buddy was added on a different computer/or method.

  • Is ichat compatible with windows?

I was trying to have an audio conversation with someone using ichat....i was using my mac and they a windows machine. I know they have a mic and all that they need to do an audio chat...but for some reason, the "phone" icon in ichat did not appear on my buddy list for that person....so all i could do was have a normal chat by typing. Can apple computers not have audio chats with windows using ichat?

You can't have an audio-only chat between someone using iChat on the Mac and AIM on the PC; your options are text and video. There is a PC client called Trillian which supports audio-only chats with people using iChat.

  • Errors & Declined: Loving My Mac But iChat Feels So "Windows"!

Every time my iChat partner (who's also on a Mac with built in iSight camera) tries to iChat me, there's the usual ambiguous "communication error", or if I initiate a iChat it's always that my invitation was "declined" (when in fact it wasn't). Very frustrating, as I'm sure most people in this forum would attest. I've noticed that when I restart my computer and we try to iChat again, it usually works. Why is this? I don't want to have to restart my computer every time we iChat.
Loving my Mac, but am pretty disgusted with iChat. It feels so Windows! Yecch! Any thoughts, suggestions out there? Thank you.
    Greg

    Hi,
    Welcome to the  Discussions
The declined message sounds like the far end has some sort of protection active in their modem or router. The most common is DoS (Denial of Service) or SPI (Statful Packet Inspection) that cut the ports involved if it is "perceived" the network is under attack.
DoS works on the basis of Too much Data `Too Quickly" and iChat can be seen as this, particularly in Leopard as the Audio and Video data is now on one port.
The issue of rebooting makes it look like you have Port Forwarding set up and still using DHCP and your IP changed at some stage.

  • Bluetooth button missing from iChat Video Conference window

I normally use a bluetooth headset when in an iChat video conference. Tiger has a button on the bottom edge of the video screen to select or deselect the bluetooth headset. This button is missing in Leopard forcing you to go into the preferences panel and select the device there.
Did I miss an option somewhere?

    Hi,
I have not heard of this in iChat 3.
As no-one else has answered I would guess it is a feature many others are unaware of.

  • Multiple iChat Video Conference Windows?

Just like many people I am getting ready to participate in my fantasy football draft and we have a few people that will need to be at the draft remotely. We are planning on using iChat to video conference with the people who have intel based iMacs running Leopard.
Is there a way to have multiple one-on-one iChat video conferences open at the same time instead of a 3-way conference all together? Meaning I want to be able to have an open one-on-one connection with one person but have another one-on-one video connection separately so I can mute one video connection but not the other.
I guess a different question would be can you have one 3-way video conference but only mute your conversation to one of the participants but not the other?
    Thanks for you assistance!

    No cant be done.

  • IChat window min width

    Hi
i just upgraded from 10.5.8 to 10.6.2, i noticed that the iChat's chat window
has a minimum width of 384 pixels (that is too large for me)
i cannot resize below that, on 10.5.8 i didn't notice any resize problems with iChat
has anyone noticed the same issue?
    Thanks

    Hi,
It is only in threads like this that I tend to check out details like this.
Like you though I am sure at one point I could narrow (as well as shorten) the Text Chat window to a point narrower than I can now in either Boot.
This maybe because a later update to iChat 4.x changed it towards what seems to be the standard in iChat 5.
I am surprised though that you can get 8 more characters that I can (Or I can narrow it by 8 more).
I have MacBook Pro 15" and I wonder if there is a screen width percentage thing going on.
The window placement and sizes are kept in com.apple.ichat.plist but deleting this can be quite destructive in that all settings need to be reset.

  • IChat window follows me everywhere

    Hey all,
Since a few months ago, I noticed that the iChat conversation window likes to "follow" me around. I use 6 Spaces, and when I switch to a new space, the open iChat conversation window follows me there and decides to pop up front. It never used to do this; it used it remain in its designated Space like I've set it up in my preferences.
I then noticed that if it was ME that started the conversation (double-clicking on the buddy in the iChat list window), then the window would stay put in its Space, as it should. However, if someone else starts a conversation with me and the bubble in the upper-right pops up -- whether or not I was already in the Space for iChat -- the conversation window will follow me everywhere.
I find this highly annoying. Is this a bug, or something I can disable? I've scoured the topics and help files to no avail.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I have seen this described before but not quite so clearly and with evidence of some investigation.
It would appear that some people have reported via iChat Feedback that iChat in another Space does not always let them know if there is a new IM or invite in the manner they want. (i.e they miss them).
I can certainly imagine this happening if one Space takes over the whole screen like a game or the DOCK is hidden as well.
It is possible that it is the DOCK being Visible in all Spaces that is the cause.
If you have Chax (the iChat Add-On) it is set to keep a particular window "Front" it may override your Spaces setting. (An iChat 4/Leopard version of Chax doe not work properly in Snow Leopard).
You can set the Invite window to be Front (by making the setting when it is visible) and it will become Front every time it appears bring the app with it as it were.
I personally don't use Spaces so I can not test.
I think it is more likely the current mode of operation but I have suggested a couple of other things to test out.

  • Preventing iChat window from (re)appearing on buddy status change

    Hi All,
I have my iChat set to remain online when the main application is closed, although an annoying side-effect of this is that when someone in my list comes online or their status changes – possibly from away or idle to active? – the iChat buddy list window pops up again.
Does anyone know how I can prevent this?

    Hi,
The Setting in the Preferences > General Section that refers to "When I quit iChat, Set my Status to Off line" stops incoming Off Line Messages when ticked.
If Unticked then you are somewhat still logged in to the servers (depending on how many Buddy lists you have)
It mainly effects the AIM Logins (AIM and Apple IDs).
When some one send you an IM you should appear to be either Off line or Away to other Buddies.
However if AIM's own Setting for Off line IMs is not On then you will get the IM.
This is because iChatAgent in early version and IMAgent in iChat 6 and above "Listens" for these and will start up the app.
In other Buddy lists (i.e Jabber) you can appear as still logged in which is why people IM you and the app will Start up on receiving the IM.
It should not happen on your Buddies going Off line or coming On line or even changing their Status Messages.
I would check the iChat menu > Preferences > Alerts for all the actions in the top drop down that refer to Buddies and check there is not AppleScript set to run.
