Simplest way to reinstall OS?

I have an x120e that's a few years old, works fine but is slow as mollasses. I want to do a fresh install of the OS, and want to do it in a way that brings the fewest headaches. I see there is a recovery partition but I have no idea what that is for. I have googled this and seen suggestions but those ways seem to eliminate the built-in Lenovo functionality like the f keys and such.
Can someone point me to the easiest way to reinstall to speed up the machine without having to track down drivers and Lenovo-specific add-ons?

OK,
the steps are discribed on tens pages on support site and forum threads. Nevertheless:
1. create Factory_Recovery Media using Lenovo Factory Recovery Disks application (find it in Control Panel). The media might be USB stick (16 gb) or CD+3DVD
2. backup your data to the external drive as the laptop drive will be formatted at all
3. insert Boot media you've prepared at step 1. Reboot laptop, immediately press F12 several times, select that media as bootable drive. Continue recovery process. Everything will be done w/o your intervention including OS activation.
4. after recovery process will be done connect to the internet, launch Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update (in Control Panel) which will connect to the Lenovo Support site, find out all needed up to date critical OS patches, drivers, Lenovo software. Note the total size of updates will be 500 mb and more. I'd recommended to load and install every critical and recommened update.
5. Launch m$ OS update application.
I'd recoomend to make the full system backup at this step using OS backup app or Lenovo Rescure & Recovery app or any other you prefer. You'll get full up to date backup for the future.
I didn't say about BIIOS update, check it out and perform before the system recovery process.
There is a chance the media at step 1 will not be done by some reason. Give the feedback here with error description.

Simplest way to reinstall clean version of Yosemite

Hi,
Not the most technical guy when it comes to OS systems. I have a Macbook Pro from early 2013 which has Yosemite installed. It is running really slow and keeps freezing.
Have tried to remove lots of unwanted apps etc from the system but doesnt make much difference and would like to do a complete wipe and re-install to start with a clean slate
Anyone have any really simple instructions on how i do this?

There are a few different ways to do this, but this is what I do:
Download a new Yosemite installer from the app store.
Make a USB flash drive Yosemite installer with an 8 GB thumb drive and diskmaker X http://diskmakerx.com/
back up your documents.
I use iCloud keychain to back up internet passwords. If you have any other passwords, for example, network settings or mail accounts, write those down.
I find it helpful to make a list of everything I am planning on reinstalling.
Boot from the thumb drive installer.
Use the utilities on the thumb drive to erase (format) your HD.
Use the thumb drive to reinstall Yosemite.
reinstall your apps from scratch (from installers, not from backups).
Move your documents back to your HD.
Don't install any third party antivirus software, "cleaners", CleanMyMac, MacKeeper (or anything else that smells like that).
There could be a lot of other reasons why your Mac is not running well (like a HD that is too full, not enough RAM for the software you are trying to run, other crapware). If you reinstall bad software you'll just reinstall your problems.

Simplest way to protect the boot disk

I have a solaris T2000 machine.
It has two internal disks - and it boots off one of these. The disks are not in an hardware or software RAID configuration. There is nothing on the second disk that I cannot move. Please don't ask why this wasn't setup from the start - I had no control over it.
So, what is the simplest way of getting around this single point of failure with the minimum of disruption to the service the box provides?
1) To implement hardware RAID using raidctl would require a re-install of the OS - I do not want to have to do this
2) Is it possible to create a new disk from the SAN, copy the boot areas etc and make then make the machine boot from the SAN?
3) Use solaris volume manager to implement some kind of software RAID on the second disk?
4) The boot disk is currently an ufs file system - could we convert this to zfs and then implement zpool mirroring without the need for a reinstall?

In my opinion, the simplest is option 3. Here's some instructions on how to accomplish:

However, if I were in your position, I would do option 4. Use liveupgrade to convert to zfs and use zpool mirroring.

What is the simplest way for plsql procedure to return multiple rows (records). There are many combination of ways to do it but I am looking for a solution that is appropriate for plsql beginners. Many solutions use cursors, cursor variables, collections and more that kind of things that are complex on the face of it. Is it somehow possible to achieve the same with less effort?
Sample query would be: SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEES;
I want to use returned rows in APEX to compose APEX SQL(in that context plsql) report.
It is enough to use just SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEES query in APEX but I want to use plsql procedure for that.

If you are looking for
Process_the_set_of rows_in APEX () kind of capabilitywhich "abstracts/hides" relation database from developers when working on relation database, it may not be the best approach (at least strategically). Because I believe it already is abstracted enough.
I find REF CUROSOR most effective for such use, when the "begginer" has basic understanding of processing SQL result set .
So in a nut shell, the techniques (that you already are familiar with) are the tools available. I am not aware of any alternative tools (in pure Oracle) that will simplify / hide basics from develpers.

Is there a way to reinstall an older version to avoid the loss of my valuable extensions an a feature (where there are no add-on upgrades) without first uninstalling the current version.
A great feature now missing from the 34 or 35 version forward, is where I could previously grab a tab, and drop it into my bookmarks and if necessary (which is always), simultaneously scroll up or down with the mouse and drop it in. NOW, i either have to scroll the bookmarks first and then grab and drop, or I have to drag the tab over to the top or bottom of the bookmarks screen for the system to recognize that it's there before it scrolls for me, then drop it to the correct location. Was this feature too difficult to keep from crashes occurring? This feature compensated for a bookmarks save window feature lost in version 3+ for which there is no add-on currently.
i wish you guys would leave the awesome features alone. Really. You guys help and hurt us with every new version.

Since the latest iOS 6 to say the maps application is dire would be an understatment, My house no longer exists and a new street has appeard behind where i live , i used to use the application all the time as im a mobile mechanic and need a reliable navigation system ,( now reduced to having to return home to print out directions ) i do know that you can use google maps if you connect to the internet but sometimes this is not possable in my are . is there a fix or can we please have google maps back also NO STEET view    REALLY im begining to wonder if i should bother with the new 5 or just get a SAMSUNG

I have reinstalled the utilities and drivers by using the recovery disks I made when the laptop was new, but have since lost them. I only want to reinstall a few utilities and drivers, but not restore the whole system. Is there any way to reinstall the "Toshiba Application Installer" or recreate the recovery disks?

You should be able to burn recovery discs. See the section Creating recovery DVDs/media, which begins on p. 69 of the User's Guide.

depening on what OS you're running you should be able to reinstall it without charge since it's part of the operating system. if running 10.6.8 or earlier you will need to use the applications install disc if there is one or if you only have one disc you can put it in and do a reinstall of the OS which will put the iphoto back on. if running 10.7 or 10.8 can sign into the app store w/ the same apple id that is associated w/ the mac and it should show in your purchases for you to reinstall it. you may need to click on the accept button if it appears next to the iphoto in your purchase listing.

There is no automatic way to generate XML documents from an arbitary set of relational tables using the information contained in an XML Schema. Typically the easiest way to generate XML from relational data is to use the SQL/XML operators (XMLElement, XMLAGG, XMLAttribtues, XMLForest). There are many examples of using these operators in the forums You can validate the generated XML against the XML Schema by registering the XML Schema with XML DB and then using the XMLType.SchemaValidate() method

I did a search for the answer to this 2 part question but got only a jumble of answers,mostly from 2010.

I have seen some mention of .pdf reader Apps and also mention of using iTunes to sync .pdf's between desktop Mac and iPad but no explanation of how to do it. Even the iPad2 Missing Manual gives short shrift to this topic.

Another way to get PDF files to your iPad are to email them. I find this to be the absolute, simplest way transfer PDF files. It may not be practical for multiple PDFs but for a couple here and there it really is so easy and simple to do. When you open the PDF in the email you can choose the Open In function and then open them in iBooks where you can save, read and print them. Another method is to use DropBox for access to multiple PDF files.
There are any number of PDF reader apps available and you can look for them in the app store.

I know there have been numerous questions about jar files and that this has probably been answered before. I am using Forte to develop a program. The program runs fine in Forte, and I used the jar packager to create a jar file. When I double click this file, nothing happens though. I can execute other jar files I have downloaded from the net, but for some reason the ones I create don't work. What is the simplest way to package the classes into a jar file so that I can run my program when I double click it?

I don't know about double-clicking it to run - that involves making a file association (in Windows) to associate a program with a file type - although I assume you've already done this if you doubleclick others and they run.
In the case with your own jars it sounds like you need to add a manifest file with the 'Main-class' attribute set to the name of the class that you want to run from the jar.
eg
Main-class: YourPackage.YourClass
The manifest.mf needs to be in a meta-inf dir inside your jar.
If you open your other jars that do work you will see an example of the manifest.mf file, and the 'Main-class' attribute.
Also - check in the jdk docs in the tools section - this should tell you all you need to know about the 'jar' tool.

What would be the simplest way to view and take control over the internet?

Hi All:
Can some one tell me what would be the best and simplest way to connect from my laptop to another laptop through the internet?
I have DYNdns running on the second laptop and have a host name assigned to that system for it to update the IP since the system uses different internet connections. The services that I would like to be able to have are the viewing and controlling of the system. I've read some where in this NG that if I have a copy of ARD admin. installed on that system also, it would be one way to do it... can some one verify this and please let me know if there are any specific settings I need to have on either one of the systems.
I can connect to the second laptop while in my home network with no problem and perform all tasks. when trying to connect through the internet.. the system shows offline .
Both systems are identical in hardware an software, Intel 2.16, 2G's RAM, OS X ver 10.5.2 all up to date and ARD 3.2
Yes, I'm new to ARD and yes I'm searching the NG and the net. but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask since time is limited.

To be able to connect to a workstation from outside it's network, the ports that ARD uses must be open on both ends of the connection. ARD uses ports 3283 and 5900 so those must be open.
If your workstations get their addresses from an NAT device rather than being "real", the ports also need to be forwarded in the router to the workstation's internal IP address. ARD uses port 3283 for the reporting and updating function, so if your Macs are getting their IP addresses through NAT, since you can only forward a port to a single workstation, you can only get reports, push package/files to etc. for a single workstation.
ARD uses the VNC protocol for observation and control, though, and there are a range of IP addresses for that protocol, starting with 5900. ARD uses 5900 by default, so that port would be forwarded to the first workstation. You would, I believe, need to install VNC servers on the systems (since the ARD client cannot listen on any port other than 5900 while VNC servers can be set for other ports such as 5901, 5902, etc. You would then forward 5901 to the second workstation (and on to 5902, 5903, etc.). You can then use the following information:
Remote Desktop 2: How to specify a port number for a VNC client
to connect.
The only other options are: 1) to run the ARD administrator on a workstation on the network, and then take control of that system from outside, either via VNC or another copy of ARD, or 2) set up a virtual private network (VPN) so that when you connect from outside, your admin system is officially part of the local network.

I'm using weblogic 10.3 and I'm new to security in weblogic. I was looking at the documentation at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs103/ConsoleHelp/taskhelp/security/ManageSecurityForDD.html
but got a little overwhelmed by the many options on how to implement security. Plus, I am getting confused between JDNI security and EJB Layer security (they're not the same thing, right?)
Can someone explain what the simplest way would be to prevent an "unauthorized" client to make remote EJB calls? For example, I know of the ConnectionFilters that you can implement, which can prevent remote callers from making T3 or IIOP calls if they're not from an authorized IP, etc. This is a good start but ideally I would want to password protect the EJBs, and any EJB client would have to provide this username/password somehow. Or possibly use two-way SSL for t3? The client app would have to provide a certificate to prove that it's trusted.
To be clear, I don't think I need weblogic to handle any fine-grained access control. I just want to make sure that the client (e.g., a webapp) is a trusted one. Once the EJB container is satisfied that the client is trusted (preferably by user/pass) then the client is free to execute any EJB methods.

I'm don't think you can do a posture check by MAC address. If you're using SSLVPN, and you're running Windows, you can do a Host Scan check for the following registry key:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Domain
Then set up a Pre-Login policy that goes Windows->Registry Check->Success->RegCheckOK
|->Fail->RegCheckFail
At this point you've just verified that you can read that key and the value is stored for later use. You're not making an allow/deny decision yet.
Then in your Dynamic Access policy you do a Policy check for Location=RegCheckFail, that says "Unable to read registry". The following DAP policy check looks for Location=RegCheckOK, and validates that the value is your AD domain.
Alternatively, you could put a NAC box (ISE or Clean Access) 'behind/after' the VPN box, so although anyone can connect only domain machines (and/or whatever other posture checks you want to make, e.g. Antivirus status) make it through to the rest of the network.

I want to load movies in to my iPad through itune in my pc that runs window XP. First of all I am not able to add the movies to the itune ,leave aside sync to iPad .can some one suggest what is the simplest way to load movies in my iPad.

I have plenty of DVD which I load in my laptop and watch the movies while travel, however I am not able to do that in my iPad .

Do I need to sellout some 20 odd $ to buy a conversion software that would help?

If you are the only user on your computer you probably don't have multiple user accounts set up and can disregard that. If you are using iTunes 11 go to View>Show Sidebar. Now see if your iPad appears under Devices on the left side when you connect it. If it does, click on the name of your iPad on the left side and your iTunes sync settings options will appear in folders with tabbed headings to the right.
