Simplest Ways to Record Audio on a Mac

I'm looking for some simple and inexpensive apps to use to record audio on my iMac running Mavericks. Mostly I'd want to record streaming radio broadcasts, much like using a DVR for TV. Someone showed my Audio Hijack Pro, but it was costly and seemed very complex to use. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I did think of that after I had posted. so now when working on video if I have the dv device with me Ill use the haedphone jack if not Im assuming I do what I did?
what I mean is if I dont have the device with me its just me and my mac book pro and external drive and Im viewing video on the mac on its screen
thanks for pointing this out other wise I would have been posting again when I was trying to get it to tape!!!

  • Recording audio on my mac

    Hi,
As part of a course I am doing I need to carry out some interviews and I need them recorded so that I can transcribe them.  I've never done anything like this before and am not sure what software I can use.
I've tried Quick Time but it doesn't record loud enough so unless myself and my interviewee are sitting next to each other with the lap top really close this isn't going to work.
I've discovered GarageBand this afternoon and that is lovely and clear but I've read somewhere that this only records around 30 minutes and my interviews may be longer than that.
Has anyone got any simple suggestions for me.  I've happy to purchase software if necessary but don't want to spend much as this is a one off project.
    Thanks
    Rachel

Ok might have to do that.  I could then get the mic nearer to myself and my interviewee without having to thrust the Mac at him/her.  Would you think that the basic Quick Time Player software would be good enough to handle this?  I would guess that we would be at either end of a sofa with the mic between us for example.
Quick Time can handle USB mics, you need to consider the physical layout of the interview, preferably get an OmniDirectional Mic, even better (but likely to be more expensive) is a Figure 8 Mic, just don't get a cardiod (unless you and the interviewee are sitting really close)
The Blue Microphones Snowball $65) is excellent for this, the Yeti $100) is perfect as it can switch between Omni and Figure 8 patterns.

  • Simplest way to sample audio from a DVD?

I would like to extract certain phrases from a DVD into logic. What's the easiest way and do I need to play and/or extract the entire DVD if I only want certain phrases at specific places on the DVD?
    Thanks

You could use either one of these:

    http://rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/
and drop the recorded file(s) into Logic.

You can copy the pages files on your Mac into the file sharing section of iTunes. Then sync your iPad. The files will be copied to your iPad. There is a link to the iPad manual in the bookmarks of safari on your iPad. Download and view the manual especially the section on sharing with iTunes.

  • The Simplest way to record acoustic guitar/vocals

I'm no musician, but I have a MBP C2D and I want to record my grandpa playing guitar and singing with GB. He won't be around forever and all I want to do is preserve some of his music for our family.
Can someone please tell me what I need to acomplish this? He doesn't even have an electric acoustic so we'll have to buy a pickup for it because he insists on using his guitar.
I don't have a lot of money to spend after buying the MBP so just let me know what the essentials are for this one.
    Thanks in advance!

Assuming you have the mic already, we can easily stay under $100.
This Behringer Mixer is about $30.
If you don't have a mic, then take a look at this Studio Condenser Mic with USB Output for about $80 (nothing else needed)
And of course there's the mic built-in to the laptop, but quality there will be lacking.

  • Recording audio and microphones

hi is there anybody out there that can tell me the best way to record audio via a microphone into logic through the internal sound card of the mac book pro and also recommend any good microphones for using to record vocals, thanks

If you don't have an external audio interface, logic will default to the internal audio of your mac. All you need to do is plug a mic with the appropriate adapter for 1/8" input jack on the mac, select that input on the channel strip you are recording to, and record. There is also a mic built in to your macbook. It should work. This being said, the internal audio is pretty bad so if you want to record I would suggest an audio interface.

  • Recording audio from the web without recording sound from the internal microphone...

Is there a way to record audio sound sources, for example a webcast in a browser, without without also recording sound thru the built in internal microphone on the MacPro laptop running Mountain Lion?

You need something along the lines of Audio Hijack Pro or WireTap Studio.  The latter is currently broken in Lion and Mountain Lion for your purposes, so that leaves Audio Hijack Pro.  Neither is free, but both are worth their asking price (well, WireTap Studio will be once they deign to repair it).

  • Recording Audio

I hope this is in the right section.
Whenever I try to record audio into my Mac Mini, whether it be through garageband, or audacity or the like program, my recording pics up this weird noise.
Not sure how to explain it.. it's almost like background noise. But since I dont' have anything else turned on when I record...
My condesnor mic is plugged into a mixer board, then into the Griffin iMic, which is set to record line in.
I have tried this on my other computer, whcih is a PC, and it doesn't have this noise.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi Michael--
I'm guessing the Griffin iMic is the culprit. I had
one of those I was using with a G4 Power Mac and was
getting the same hissing or background noise in
recorded audio as you described. Just to rule out my
mixer and the G4 itself, I tried the iMic with an
iMac and a PowerBook, and had the same hissing sound
as with the G4 (but straight line-in recordings on
these Macs without the iMic yielded clean sound). I
did a little digging and discovered the iMic was a
problem for other users as well. So, what you may
have to do is try a higher-end FireWire or USB-audio
adaptor, maybe something from M-Audio, Edirol or
    MOTU.
(One more thing, if it's any reassurance. I have
decent-quality USB mic that I use with my own Mac
mini, and recorded sound using it is perfectly clean
and totally without extraneous noise. Your mini
should be capable of the same with the right
    equipment.)

    Hi,
Thanks for you reply, I think for the time being I'll stick with using the windows machine, at least til I can afford to get another Mac.
It's not the ideal solution, since it's noiser than the Mac Mini... but it's all i've got to work with at the moment.

  • Record audio and burn audio cd

    Hello
What would be the best  way to record audio (from the mic) on an imac, and then burn to audio cd (CD-R)?
I can find a target in compressor for this.
I can record ok onto a timeline and cut but then how to create audio cd?
or should I use use something other than FCP
Many thanks and Happy New Year from France

    Hi
Yes ok with iTunes but I want to create separate tracks first.
Normally, (i'm used to doing this on a pc) tracks are made from each separate file.
How can I therefore create separate files first from from a continuous recorded stream.

  • Recording audio to iPod Mini?

Unfortunately no. The iPod mini software does not allow for voice recording.

  • Recording audio into  logic from a rewire application

Im using logic 8, but im about to have 9.Is there a way to record audio in from a rewire application, in my case Reason 4.Im able to run sound through it,and out of the main mix. But cant figure out how to record onto a track for later use and manipulation.Any help would be great. Thanks

In your mixer: options> new Aux. channel strip, set input to Reason channel (#,#). In Reason don't use the 14:2 mixer, but hook everything up to the hardware interface. If you do go through the 14:2 everything in Reason will be on one track in Logic (Mix L/R in the Reason input menu).
Then in Logic, either change the ouput of that channel, or set up a send, to a bus (say 1).
Then create an Audio track in the arrange window, and set the input to bus 1.
That gives you a track with the Reason part recorded as an audio file.

  • Recording audio in quicktime pro?

Is ther a way to record audio streaming live content from the internet? Say a radio program that you dont want to miss. I have quicktime pro and I also have audio hijack. Also is ther a way to set quicktime up to record a future streamlined audio event. Thanks. computer novice here.
    Paul

Sorry but no. QuickTime can play streaming media but cannot capture it. Audio Hijack can of course record the output of QuickTime Player, so just play the stream with QuickTime Player and capture the stream with Audio Hijack.
