SimpleXMLparser and dtd's

Installed iFS and 8.1.6 on solaris 7.
I created a SIMPLE type definition file to subclass the Document object. This uploaded via the browser (on NT), and created the database object (table) correctly.
Am able to upload & parse data to the table via the browser (xml files) just fine.
I created a SIMPLE dtd to validate the xml upload data against, and it blows away JWS.
(tried both external and internal dtd's with reference to the xml data upload file) Also will blow away the SmbServer. It seems to crater when it processes the first <!ELEMENT tag which follows the <!DOCTYPE tag in the dtd.
The output from JWS.log is vast, but a small sample of the error message is below. Does the simplexmlparser support validating via a dtd? I've spent a lot of time on this, and would greatly appreciate a quick response.

XSU Generated Schemas and DTDs are bad input for oracg

Hi,
I'm trying to write a utility that accepts a database schema name and writes XML Schemas and a DTDs for each table based on a:
select * from table_name
over each table in the schema. I would then like to use those files as input to the oracg utility to produce java files. There are some problems though. The DTD representation is not meant as a standalone DTD. In other words its of the form:
<!DOCTYPE NAME [
...dtd defs here ...
]>
which oracg doesn't like. Its not a big deal to do some post processing and delete the DOCTYPE defenition, but then oracg barfs with the following error:
Error: DTD Class Generator failed to generate classes. oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParseException: Expected 'DOCTYPE'.

The oracg utility gives the following errors with this as input:

which clearly points to the fact that the XSD:SCHEMA element is enclosed in the Document Element. Removing the document tag completely and leaving XSD:SCHEMA as the root element works. But thats a lot of post processing to be doing and I was wondering if there was a way to generate XML Schemas and DTDs using the standalone representations.
If there is no way to do that, could somebody help me fix the error generated by oracg with my DTD?

I'm also having problems dealing with schemas. The call to OracleXMLQuery.getXMLMetaData(OracleXMLQuery.SCHEMA, false) returns the following for this particular table:

The oracg utility gives the following errors with this as input:

file:/export/home/kennedy/generatedSchemas/STATION.xsd<Line 1, Column 58>: XML-0122: (Fatal Error) '=' missing in attribute.
file:/export/home/kennedy/generatedSchemas/STATION.xsd<Line 1, Column 59>: XML-0125: (Fatal Error) Attribute value should start with quote.
Error: Schema Class Generator failed to generate classes. oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParseException: Whitespace required.
which clearly points to the fact that the XSD:SCHEMA element is enclosed in the Document Element. Removing the document tag completely and leaving XSD:SCHEMA as the root element works. But thats a lot of post processing to be doing and I was wondering if there was a way to generate XML Schemas and DTDs using the standalone representations.
If there is no way to do that, could somebody help me fix the error generated by oracg with my DTD?

Adding custom tags and extend ParserDelegator and DTD support problem!!

Hi all, I searched all forums and google for information about this problem but I did not find any clear solution or example.
The probem stared when HTMLEditorKit's insertHTML method did not worked for custom tags.
I extended javax.swing.text.html.parser.ParserDelegator class
and override it's setDefaultDTD() method, which loads the default dtd (html32 definition). After the dtd field is created it I call this method:
          javax.swing.text.html.parser.Element element = _dtd.defineElement(
              "template", javax.swing.text.html.parser.Element.SYSTEM, false, false,
              null, null, null,
              new AttributeList("value"));where _dtd is instance of DTD class in the same package, and "template" is the name of my custom tag.
(if i define the element's type as CONTENT instead of SYSTEM the parser removes it)
So after this,i see that my new tag is in DTD.elements vector and DTD.elementHash hastable, so its defined in DTD structures.
The problem is that I have to redefine most element's ContentModel field "content" so that the parser will parse correctly the html source.

Can anyone plase give me advice how i can add my custom tag in this ContentModel structures for example as a content of "p" element
I must do this for most structure elements.
Or tell me any other way i can achieve the solution of my problem.
A lot of topics here are still opened for solution for similar problems.

Hi all, I searched all forums and google for information about this problem but I did not find any clear solution or example.
The probem stared when HTMLEditorKit's insertHTML method did not worked for custom tags.
I extended javax.swing.text.html.parser.ParserDelegator class
and override it's setDefaultDTD() method, which loads the default dtd (html32 definition). After the dtd field is created it I call this method:
          javax.swing.text.html.parser.Element element = _dtd.defineElement(
              "template", javax.swing.text.html.parser.Element.SYSTEM, false, false,
              null, null, null,
              new AttributeList("value"));where _dtd is instance of DTD class in the same package, and "template" is the name of my custom tag.
(if i define the element's type as CONTENT instead of SYSTEM the parser removes it)
So after this,i see that my new tag is in DTD.elements vector and DTD.elementHash hastable, so its defined in DTD structures.
The problem is that I have to redefine most element's ContentModel field "content" so that the parser will parse correctly the html source.

Berkeley DB XML, Python, TEI and DTDs

Dear BDB XML experts,
I am developing a web application (Django based) that uses python to manipulate and query TEI based documents within a BDB XML container.
The XML documents I am loading into the container contain a reference to an external DTD, which in turn references .ent files. The documents contain entity references that require resolving.
I can successfully put the XML documents into the container if I include the contents of the DTD within each file, but the process fails if I do not include the contents of the DTD in the XML document and instead try to reference the DTD via a reference. Xquery queries also do not seem to work properly if the DTD contents is included within each XML document.
I have found references in the forums to the following JAVA code which appears to allow BDB XML to reference an external DTD in the file system from within the database (I may be wrong on this though):
XmlManagerConfig config = new XmlManagerConfig();
config.setAllowExternalAccess(true);
XmlManager manager = new XmlManager(config);
My query is, can the same be achieved using python? The BDB documentation specifies this as a JAVA only operation and does not mention it as possible using python.

I have gathered quite a bit of experience with the Python bindings now, but I haven't been exactly in your situation. My experience has been that pretty much anything that you can do in Java you can do in Python but sometimes the syntax is a little different. From what I see Python does not have an XmlManagerConfig class but instead uses flags given to the XmlManager constructor. To do what you want to do I think you want (assuming from dbxml import *)
mgr = XmlManager(env, DBXML_ALLOW_EXTERNAL_ACCESS)

Relation between transactions and DTD's

Hi,
Is there any relation between transaction, transaction subtypes with DTD's.
This is the case of 3rd party integration. I want to send an inbound message to the oracle xml gateway. This will be directly enqueued into generic queue - ECX_INQUEUE through AQ api's.
But for exposing the DTD's and transactions, I am not able to find any relation between them ?
Can anyone throw some light on this .....

Crimson and DTDs

I'm having problems with Crimson in combination with documents validated using an external DTD. I'm usinf JAXP 1.1. Basically I get an exception:

I'm using the following bit of code:
DocumentBuilderFactory fac = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();

doc = builder.parse(new File(filename));
Is that a Crimson error or am I doing something wrong? Maybe I have messed up different versions of DOM, JAXP, ... libraries?!
I'm doing that to compare different implementations, and it works fine with Xerces and my own one. I thought it is strange that exactly the JAXP default parser would fail on this task.
Any thoughts?

I had a problem like yours. Apparently, the "parse" method have a little problem with a "file" object as a parameter try this, it worked with me :
File fl = new File(strFileName);
doc = builder.parse(new FileInputStream(fl));

Xsd and dtd: which one will overrule

if I have both DTD and XSD, and the rules in them are conflicting (say: the DTD indicates that an element is mandatory and the XSD is indicating that the element is optional): which one will overrule?

An XML document may have only either a DTD or a schema specified.

How do I generate the associated DTD? Do I need to manually

To add, if your application needs a DTDyou an use any XML IDE ( like xmlspy) to automatically write a bare minimal DTD for the XML and you can modify to impose /alter the restrictions

How To Generate Objects From XML and DTD?

Are there tools to generate objects from dtd's and xml files?
If this is not possible for some reason: is there a tool to generate classes from a dtd?
I can not find the "XML Java Class Generator" (from oracle) anymore.

XML and DTD parsing

How do I validate an xml file using a dtd in Java? Is there a parser that validates xml's against dtd's?
I have parsed the xml file that contains the DOCTYPE necessary to define the dtd. However, the parser only seems to check whether or not the dtd exists but doesn't bother to check whether the xml file is valid given the specified dtd?
I am using the jaxp parser.

Is it possible to have both the Schema and DTD support within the same application using 9i.
We have lot of DTD's already written (under use) and we are not ready to convert
everything to Schema format right away.

Do I need to register this .DTD file somewhere?

In any case, the dtd is incorrect and that may be why. The element structure is at least look like this.

<!ELEMENT P_INVOICES (variable, variable, variable)>If you want to keep some flexibility on variable's cardinality, you can simply it like this.
<!ELEMENT labels (label*)>
<!ELEMENT label (CUSTOMER_NAME?, HEADER_ID, ORDERED_ITEM, P_INVOICES*)>
<!ELEMENT P_INVOICES (variable+)>Then you add the appropriate ATTLIST for the elements.
