Simplified Chinese search in RH9 is partial, non-existent in RH8

I notice the adobe marketing literature states RH9 is fully searchable with simplified chinese character sets but my company's testing shows otherwise.  The search results do not pick up all keywords in the topics.  In fact, the search results are minimal to the reality of what is in the project.  I am not proficient in simplified chinese but my colleagues are and they assure me the feature is not usable for an online help delivery.  This is a let down for us because simplified chinese in RH8 did not yield any search results at all in RH8.  RH9 is a step forward but not god enough for delivery of a professional product.
Another bug report to adobe is forthcoming.  Please advsie if you have similar or contrary experiences.  This is not a browser issue whatsoever so that argument won't qualify to address the problem.

    Also, view in orgchart doesn't work.  Is orgchart a valid word.  My spell checker doesn't think so.

    Orgchart is a contraction of Organization Chart. Jive has many features that are used by other organizations but are not implemented on this site, the Orghart being one of them. Ideally those links would be omitted or hidden.
    In principle adding the URL parameter &sortOrder=ascending onto the earlier URL ought to reverse the results but according to Jive's documentation it may not always work as expected, and doesn't in this case.
    The default order if none is provided is "descending". Please note that ascending and descending do not necessary produce exact opposites of one another. This is because there are often additional criteria that is used to sort items that have matching primary criteria.

    Next time you are in a search windows click the Search tips link and take a look around.
    By the way, users who have set their Online Visibility (via User Preferences ) to off are not returned by a people search. This preference would appear to be controlling the wrong privacy setting. Online Visibility isn't an enabled feature of ASC.

  • When can oracle support full text search for Simplified Chinese?

    When I create index using the create index clause,the following errors appears
    "ORA-29855: error occurred in the execution of ODCIINDEXCREATE routine
    ORA-20000: interMedia Text error:
    DRG-11440: operation not supported for the SIMPLIFIED CHINESE language"
    Maybe I have to use like to query words...
    Did somebody encounter the same problem and have a good solutions?I am expecting your help!

  • Simplified Chinese in RH9 topics will not open in RH9 Editor

    I upgraded a RH8 project with a simplified chinese character set to RH9 and the topics will not open in the RH editor.  See screen shot below.
    After clicking off on the error dialog, the topic opens in noptepad showing the HTML.  This occurs on every topic in the project.  I also had one of my collegues test the upgrade on their machine and same result occrred.  I am not sure if there is anything in the project I can troubleshoot or what else to try.  Checking any topic properties/general tab, I noticed the edtitor field is hard coded to use Notepad.  I do not know why this would be unless RH9 is confused about how to process the character set .
    This problem did not occur in RH8 with simplified Chinese character sets.  I am going to submit a bug report to Adobe but if anyone has any knowldge or experience uin this area, please advise.

  • Full-text search broken in Simplified Chinese?

    Hello,
    Can anyone confirm whether full-text search works in
    Simplified Chinese CHM files produced with Robohelp 7? It looks to
    me like the answer is no. When I compile a help system that has
    been localized into Chinese, the compiler produces this error:
    Generating full-text search data...
    HHC5008: Error:
    An unknown error occurred while creating the index.
    There's no mention of this error in any of Adobe's support
    documents. Googling "HHC5008" and "unknown error" finds one page
    (in Japanese) that indicates that the problem stems from using a
    binary index. Robohelp will not let me disable the binary index
    since I'm using an HHK.
    Oddly, if I change the language of my otherwise unmodified
    source (English) project to Simplified Chinese, the same error
    occurs.
    The Robohelp Readme lists as a known issue "Search not
    working for Unicode (Hiragana) characters on RoboHelp for HTML
    (RHT)." This problem is perhaps related, but not identical to the
    one I'm having. It would also appear that the statement in the FAQ,
    "Full text search is also operational in any of the languages," is
    false.
    I'm evaluating RH7, which will not be useful to me if this
    bug persists.

    Thank you very much for the quick response (on Christmas Eve,
    no less). It appears to me that the search and index issues are the
    same, or at least that they're very closely related. Again, the
    error message sequence is as follows:
    Generating full-text search data...
    HHC5008: Error:

    The index itself generates correctly (despite the error
    message); the problem is with the Search tab.
    I can reproduce the problem with the "Clownfish School"
    sample project. If I open the project, change its output format to
    Microsoft HTML Help, and compile, the search function in the
    resulting CHM works fine. If I change the project language to
    Simplified Chinese, I get the same error I reported originally with
    my actual project.
    So at this point it appears that either the problem is, as
    you suggest, local to my installation (I've tested it on three
    different machines, though, so this seems unlikely) or with
    Robohelp itself.
    I would appreciate any additional suggestions. Thanks

  • Changing Search sort order for Simplified Chinese

    We're generating a Simplified Chinese WebHelp system using Robohelp 10 and we need to change the sort order in the Search results so that it follows the pinyin order instead of "Y, Z, M, T" (Referring to 仪,准,美,通). Is there a way to do this?

    I sort of found a workaround, but it may lead to other problems, so use it at your own risk.
    It also requires a bit of work.
    The idea is to use the sort order for Japanese by specifying the following in the IX reference page.

  • Unable to read Simplified Chinese in downloaded excel

    Hi,
    We are running an MDMP Simplified Chinese SAP system.
    After extracting some data with both English and Simplified Chinese and saving it as excel file, we are not able to view the Simplified Chinese characters when it is opened in MS Excel.  "Garbage" are being displayed in place of Simplified Chinese.  English display is ok.
    The PC already has Simplified Chinese fonts installed (Control Panel->Regional & Language Options->Language tab->Install files for East Asian languages), and Windows XP is an English version.
    In addition, we are able to key in Simplified Chinese via the keyboard using Hanyu Pinyin.
    I am suspecting that the issue is with MS Excel which doesn't know how to convert the Simplified Chinese. 
    Does anyone know how to overcome this problem?

    Hi,
    as far as I know you need to set the system locale (Language for Non-Unicode programs) of Windows in the control panel to Chinese.
    In addition in a standard  MDMP system it is mandatory to logon with language Chinese if you want to download Kanji characters.

  • Newbie: Simplified Chinese characters are displayed as square boxes

    Hi,
    I am using Windows XP Simplified Chinese Version SP3, Sun JDK5.0 Update 20. I want to run Apache Ofbiz POS; however, the Chinese characters (zh) in PosUiLabels.xml are all displayed as square boxes.
    I have tested run Ofbiz in Mac OS X and the Simplified Chinese are displayed normally, and other languages can also be displayed in Windows XP.
    What should I do?

    When you say "displayed" I assume you mean displayed in some GUI component. In which case you should assign a font to that component which can render those characters properly.

  • Sort order for Simplified Chinese (pinyin)

    FrameMaker 10 (Windows)
    It seems that if I specify the sort order for Simplified Chinese (pinyin) on the reference page,
    index entries that start with "i" and "v" are not shown under their corresponding group titles.
    (I assume that this may be due to the fact that pinyin words never start with these letters.)
    If I have an entry that starts with an English word like "IP," it appears under the "J" group.
    I want the entry to appear under the "I" group. How can I do this?

  • Problem printing simplified Chinese on PM4i printer using multi-byte data

    I am new to printing data in Simplified Chinese and have tried for a period of time to get it to work but it is not working. I would appreciate any help.
    This is what I have:
    1. Chinese data stored as multi-byte data in oracle 10g db. It is in one of the attribute fields on the mtl_system_items table. The data field it is stored in is defined as varchar2(240). I have to extract that data and print it out as simplified Chinese characters on 3x4 label stock on PM4i printer which is setup to use IPL as the default language.
    2. Purchased the simplified Chinese font kit ( compact flash card ) and plugged it into the compact flash port on back of the printer. The simplified Chinese font is assigned.
    3. Created simple program to build the label file to send to the printer to print the Chinese glyphs. I expected 3 to print but it only prints 1 Chinese glyph and that is not the correct.

    i think the issue here may be with formating the mulit-byte data into format it can be printed using the c60 font. Any

    Can you please specify the exact character sets you are migrating, such as US7ASCII ->ZHS16GBK . There are a couple of common scenarios. One is the source character set is not a subset of the target. Another is that the source character set has illegal characters. In your case maybe non ASCII characters. A third possibility is that you have not set up your NLS_LANG settings properly when you did your import or export. Can you please also describe the error message you are getting? What versions of Oracle do the source and target database reside? There is an Oracle utility that is highly recommended to use with Oracle8i before doing migrations called the Character Set Scanner. For more information on database character set migration issues and the Character Set Scanner please refer to

    You can use TextEdit for text docs.  After File > Open, select one of the S. Chinese encodings (or UTF-8) from the Plain Text Encoding menu until you find one that works.
    If you are using a browser, then you can try the different encodings in View > Text Encoding.
    If you have to use Word for Mac to open stuff, I don't know whether you can adjust encodings, probably best to search/ask in the forum run by its maker:

  • Simplified Chinese font missing ...

    I recently bought a 17" MacBook Pro--bought in China--and have discovered that one of the most important Simplified Chinese fonts, Song.dfont, is missing. The machine came with OS-X 10.4.7 which I have upgraded to 10.4.8, fully updated. To try to find it, I did an "archive and install" on my bootable back-up disk, but Song.dfont is missing from that new 10.4.7 installation. The Hei.dfont and Kai.dfont are there on both versions of the system.
    I tried copying the font from my old Rev 1 TiBook, which has it, though it is now running 10.4.8 but when I tried to install it on the MacBook Pro, I got an alert that it was corrupt ... something to do with a conflict with the original SIL Doulos IPA font, I believe.
    Can anyone suggest how I can get it. Song is essential, as I exchange files with Chinese Windows users on a regular basis, and they are in Song. The system installs STSong, but that doesn't help, because I also need to produce PDFs and STSong is not licensed for embedding in a PDF.
    So please, can anyone help me to find a source for installing this font on my MacBook Pro?

    Look through the files on the Main re-install disk that came with your MBP. In the "System" folder you will find "packages". Inside are the various installers. One of those may well have the install package for your Chinese fonts. Maybe this works.
    Another way might be to get Pacifist, and if you can find the right package, drag it on to Pacifist's window. This would be another way to install the font.
    Note: I am not exactly which package would do the job. Pacifist is very helpful at searching this out for you. Find Pacifist from versiontracker.com.

    This indicates that it is in a package called "Additional Asian Fonts". This wil make it easier for you.
