I checked most stores if they had the version of Sims 2 for Mac (and no one did), yet while reading over some internet forums many people said that the games could work on Intel Macs? Is this true? or would I have to get something such as Virtual PC? But would I have to pay for this software?

    Hey there,
As long as you purchase the Mac Version, everything should work great. I recently purchased the game, and have had no problems with it whatsoever. So go ahead and purchase it and have fun. Best of luck!

  • The Sims 2 for Mac vs The Sims 2 for Windows?

    Hi,
I've recently purchased a new aluminum imac (2.8ghz, 4gb ram, 500gb hd, 24") and i wanted to know which would be my best option for playing the sims 2?
    Should I:
    a) buy windows xp (don't want crappy vista :P) install it using bootcamp and load my Sims 2 (pc versions) on to it;
or b) swap my pc sims 2 versions for Mac versions and skip the whole xp/botcamp thing?
Is there any difference (gameplay, graphic, etc issues) between the pc and mac versions?
Will the mac version play better than the pc version using windows xp/bootcamp on my mac?
Are the Mac versions available anywhere or are there only specific places that sell the mac versions? (I live in Australia, btw)
Also, any other handy hints regarding the two options would be super!
    Thanks in advance,
    Tara

    a) iPersonally see no point in buying a license of window and installing it on my Mac, too much tie and effort. Also, iAm not going to put windows ANYWHERE NEAR my iMac. Lastly, there are some issues with windows itself running on a Mac, but not system endangering ones, just things like sound and drivers.
    b) There will be little difference, The Sims 2 is ported by the AWESOME people down at Aspyr and other then the patches being released later than the windows version iSee no point in installing windows just for The Sims, buy the Mac Version! Although it will be costly as the games cost quite a bit and there are tons of expansions you may need to replace.
    c) iWould think that the Mac version would work better than Bootcamp+Sims because you have one less software compatibility to worry about, also you avoid all the crashing of windows.
d)Tons of stores sell Mac games, Apple Stores for one! In fact the Apple Store Online has free shipping on [just] The Sims 2, but not the expansions, live near an Apple Store?
Try looking online for your major electronics store's site, chances are if they sell Macs (and are thus Apple Resellers) they carry Mac Software and games too!
    Hope that helps!

  • The Sims for the mac

Has anybody got the sims for the imac? I came across the sims on ebay and didnt realise they did them for the mac as well. Can anyone tell me a) how good it is (I had the pc version) and b) does it slow your computer down? Im a bit dubious when adding software to new computers!!

I had a lot of trouble with SimCity4 on my iMac. It became such a headache that I returned it to compUSA. It ran very choppy and crashed repeatedly when the city began to develop. My system FAR exceeds the system requirements for the game, and after some online research I discovered that I am not the only person to have this trouble with SimCity running on 10.4. I have also read problems concerning the SIMS2. Some of what I have read indicates that 10.3 runs the games fine, but 10.4 causes them to crash. I don't know if this is the case, but I do know that I am now very weary before dropping $50 on a game that may not perform on my computer as it claims to on the box. Some people trying to run games are talking about waiting for Mac OS updates that will allow them to run smoother.

  • Sims 2 with mac mini

ok i had post but then it was locked? donno why? so nanofreak /other people sims 2 is now universal. what does that mean? can i run the game with out using bootcamp? i had the game for a half year now. is it counted as universal? i'm really confused

One of your other topics was locked because it wasn't really a technical question about your Mac mini.
Now that some Macs are running with Intel processors inside, applications need to be rewritten for the new processor. If an application hasn't been rewritten, one that was written for a PowerPC (G4) processor will still run, but the PowerPC chip will be emulated. Apple calls this Rosetta. After an application has been rewritten, it should run on either a PowerPC or an Intel based Mac. These applications are called Universal Applications or "Universal Binaries".
These applications have nothing to do with Boot Camp or running Windows XP on your Mac. Since Intel-based Macs have only been out a couple of months, it's doubtful anything more than six old is already a Universal Binary, but there may be an update for it.

  • Can't play Sims 2 on mac book

Since installing Leopard I can't get Sims 2 to work on our mac book. It worked fine before. It will load up and then cut out with an unsuccessful launch notification. I've gone to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store and gotten no help.

I believe that this is a Sims compatibility problem. That's why Apple can't help. I would check for Sims updates or Leopard compatibility tips at their website which is:

  • Unable to Install Sims 2 onto Mac.

When I go to drag the folder into my HD, it copies but when I open it, it says "You can't open the application, The Sims 2, because PowerPC applications are no longer supported. What does this mean?

Cheapest solution would be to install Snow Leopard on a bootable external hard drive and install Sim 2. Then boot to the external drive and run Sim 2.
You could also purchase the updated version of Sim 2
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-sims-2-super-collection/id883782620?mt=12
Note that it requires Mavericks and later. You man be able to get a version that runs on Lion or Mountain Lion by:
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app

  • SIMS 2 not working on Intel-based Mac Mini

SIMS 2 will not work on new Mac Mini. I contacted Aspyr who said that the integrated graphics card prevents it from displaying graphics and that this was a hardware problem.
Is there any way to make SIMS 2 work on the Mac mini
-update or add on graphics card
    -use in PC mode
    - or ?
Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi Hillview,
If you bought 'The Sims 2' for Mac then it will only run on either a PowerPC Mac or an Intel Mac running OS X, not under Windows with BootCamp unfortunately. This means that you can't attempt to run it in "PC" mode. The Apple Store states that the minimum 'Graphics' requirements to run The Sims 2 are either an ATI 9200 and higher, or a GeForce FX5200 and higher. Unfortunately they don't quite take into account that they are shipping macs with Intels integrated graphics chipset now, and no Intel specific requirements are mentioned in the system requirements. It does however state that a minimum of 32MB Graphics Power is required to run the game, and the GMA950 that is in your mac mini has upto 64MB shared, meaning that technically it should run fine.
It must simply be a problem in the way that the Intel graphics chip processes visuals that are specific to the game its self and unfortunately you can't upgrade the Graphics chip inside your mac mini - it's soldered in! A call to the Apple Care Help Line may be your best bet, because the chances of you being able to get it running, aren't really looking all too good unfortunately =(
Hope that I may have been of help

  • Mac Mini and Sims Complete

    Hi!
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.
I wonder if anyone has used The Sims Complete Collection on an Intel Mac Mini? If so, how does it run? Is there a universal out? If not, how does it run under Rosetta? Thanks in advance!

Based on the requirements for Sims 3
    FOR MAC OS X
Mac OS X 10.5.7 Leopard or higher
    Intel Core Duo Processor
    2 GB RAM
ATI X1600 or Nvidia 7300 GT with 128 MB of Video RAM, or Intel Integrated GMA X3100.
At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games
    It should do fine

  • The Sims on Mac Mini

Ok, here's the situation. I appreciate any help/info:
I have a Mac Mini. We get along great and are friends. Huzzah! I have plenty of space and the machine works great!
I want to get The Sims. NOT The Sims 2, but the original, The Sims. I got to amazon.com to order The Sims for my Mac. Half of the customer reviews on Amazon said that installing The Sims on their computer was a bad idea and it didn't work.
    Link as evidence: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002RCYZA/ref=pdrvi_gw1/103-6913717-4829406?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=468642
But these appear to be kids reviewing it, so how much faith do I put in this?
So, I lay it before you, the readers, posters, and helpers who are much wiser than myself. Should I buy The Sims for my mac, or am I cursed to be forever Simless?

I installed The Sims 1 on someone's Mac the other day. The Installer looked like a Mac OS 9 installer, although the box featured a Finder icon. I couldn't find another installer, although I was in a hurry and barely had the time to look for one. I was able to try the game, which ran smoothly (iBook 1.25 Ghz, 512 MB RAM, Radeon 9200 & 32 MB VRAM), but I couldn't determine whether it was running in Classic or in OS X (being very unfamiliar with Classic, which I don't use at all, I didn't know what to look for).
I'll have to checxk more carefully when I next see this iBook (don't wait for me to post back before making your decision though; otherwise you could very well be Simless for several months).
