Sims 3 + iMac = 80oC!

I installed The Sims 3 on my 20" iMac and started to play it, after I quit I noticed that my GPU (which is one of the Northbridges I guess since there are two and no GPU stated) was running at 80oC and the Fans where running as if it wasn't that hot!
Aren't the fans meant to increase when the GPU get hot? 80oC is very hot and its almost put me off playing the Sims 3 now just in case I fry the GPU.
Anyone know whats up?

Hi. I have the same problem. Just got brand new imac 2.6 . On normal use like internet, photos northbridge temperature is under 50'c but when I play world of warcraft it jumps to 84'c. The worst is I can't hear find going any faster. Scary. I wish Apple could give us some official guide line about temperatures.

I have an I pad2, an iMac desktop(2012) and an I phone 5, how do I get them all to be able to face time with each other, do I need different email addresses, use the phone number, or the sim number in the iPad ? Any help gratefully received !!

    Graham,
For the iPad, iMac you need to create verifyible e-mail addresses created with one of the providers such as Yahoo, Gmail, etc.  For the iphone you should use it's phone number, but an e-mail could be used for it too.  If you want to associate these e-mail addresses with a single ID, I'm including a link to give you info about how you can do that. Read it carefully, as it can be a bit confusing.

  • Sims 2 - Crashes when iMac part of an open directory domain

Having a weird issue with running the The Sim 2 on my Kids machines.
Some background, we have an Aluminum intel iMac and am intel Mac Min both running Leopard 10.5.6 which are connected to an old G4 DP800 running Leopard Server 10.5.6. When I installed the Sims 2 on the iMac or the Mac Mini it crashes almost immediately when you try to run it. Got onto Aspyr, went back and forward with them and they couldn't replicate the issues.
Eventually I tried installing a fresh copy of Leopard 10.5.6 on an external USB drive and booting off that. It worked.
Now for the fun part. Having been able to run the Sims 2 successfully from this vanilla usb install of 10.5.6, I then tried adding this back into the Open Directory domain, still running form the USB drive, all I did was add the machine back into the open directory domain, I didn't reboot, I didn't log out and back in again all I did was open directory utility, added the machine to the open directory domain and then re-ran The Sims 2, and you guessed it, it was crashing again.
Just in case I did anything wrong, I repeated the whole process, and found this is repeatable, as soon as I the machine back into the open directory, then Sims 2 crashes.
The attitude from Aspyr when I related all of this to then was that I had a "non standard" setup.
It's a real pain having to keep a vanilla 10.5.6 install and having to re-boot each time to run this game, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on this?
    TIA
    Dave

So I finally got it to work.
The Mavericks set up DNS assistant seems to add your local domain into the FQDN so you end up getting 'macsvr.domain.domain.com'
I uninstalled server, removed the /Library/Server folder also Server.app and two files in /Library/Preferences. Serverd.plist and servermgrd.plist.
I restarted server and let it do a first run, I set up my host name asking to set up DNS.
I then went into DNS, deactivated it and edited the domain. I then added NS and machine records, reverse lookups and finally made sure the FQDN was in the correct zone. I repeated this for the intended replica and created my OD replica on first run.
Check everything is good by using terminal, using the cmd: nslookup <ip address> for both master and replica, then: nslookup <FQDN> then: host <ip address>
This should resolve both OD master and OD replica IP and hostname
Hope this helps anyone else stuck on the set up.

  • The Sims 2 on iMac G5

Hi there. This might not be posted in the right place but I really couldn't find anywhere else to put it. I tried the Aspyr website to no avail.
I'm having difficulties starting The Sims 2 on my Mac. I install it and it will start, but after the EA Games logo, it doesn't show the Maxis logo (it shows a small red cross in the top left of the screen). Then it shows the aspyr logo and plays the opening video. Then it dumps me onto the desktop with a "this application quit unexpectedly" notice.
I've tried using the patch; updating my drivers; fixing permissions. I don't know what else to try.
Also, on a side note, Nanosaur also won't work. Maybe it's linked, I don't know.
    Please help. It's rather annoying.
    17" iMac G5 PowerPC 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   1 Gb Memory, ATI Radeon 9600, 250 GB

I have the feeling that if it worked it would work alright. I have a really rubbish PC and it plays ok on there with the settings turned down. (My friend owns it on PC, I'm not trying to install the PC version on my Mac).
It may be the graphics card I suppose, it's just that with Nanosaur not working either I thought it could be something to do with 3D rendering. I don't know much about all this though.
Also there's that thing with not showing the Maxis logo and showing a red cross. The maxis logo can't render, maybe?
Thanks for your advice but I've tried installing it, deleting it, deleting the bits it leaves in the Library, etc. countless times. I've tried it in the root (only under a Sims 2 directory), I've tried installing it in a games folder. I've tried it everywhere!

    Cosa fare????????

  • My Imac has stopped recognizing my phone SIM card.  ??????

I have successfully uploaded pics from my phone to my Imac utilizing the SIM card from the phone, in an adaptor pushed into the small slot on the right side of the machine.  After successfully uploading pics off my phone the other day, I removed the card by hand as usual, and an odd msg came up "not shutdown properly" or something like that.  I pushed the card back in, nothing happened, so I moved the Icon to the trash thinking that might close it.  But now when I try to insert the Sim card, nothing happens - no icon, no Iphoto, I can't seem to get anything I can work with.  The help desk says it might be mechanical, but it seems like a coincidence?  Any ideas?

No idea what you are doing, but Mac's don't have SIM readers.  And even if they did that is an EXTREAMLY difficult, slow and dangerus way to transfer pics.  When the phone is connected for syncing you can just copy your picutres over using iPhoto (Mac) or iTunes (Windows).  Is the SIM card still working in the phone?  If so I would put it in the phone and leave it there.  If you break it or short it out you will have to buy another one from your phone company and have it activated again.  Which will probalby cost you $20 - $50.

  • Are the iMacs able to handle Flight Sims?

My iMac is an early intel version with a 2.16 GHz cpu and 2.0 GB ram with the nVidia 7600 GT video card. Can someone please tell me if the flight sim 'X-Plane' would work with this platform? I have not picked up any joysticks or control wheels as I wasn't sure whether or not the computer was flight sim capable or not.
My old dell pc was to some degree, but it was too old to modify enough to make flight sim games worthwhile. Any help would be appreciated.

Off the top of my head I would expect it to work just fine. You can download the demo of version 8 and see how it goes. You can drive with the mouse and keyboard in the demo mode for about 10 minutes. It's a big download, but worth the wait.
You've probably already discovered x-plane.org? It's a web site for rabid x-plane fans. I'd post your question there and I'm suspecting you'll get a lot of responses. They are pretty helpful in my experience.
FYI - I'm running x-plane version 8 on my iMac without a hitch. There is actually one small hitch in the video drivers for my Mac (uses a ATI card) that does not display runway lights properly, but I think that should not be an issue for you. (The X-plane author claims it is an Apple/ATI deficiency in the video drivers for the new iMac. Version 9 works around the problem I am told).

  • IMac 20" for Sims 2?

I am thinking of getting an iMac 20". My wife plays Sims2 all the time, and I want to make sure that the machine will run the software quickly, and that the screen will look good.
Has anyone tried the 20" and Sims 2?

I too have been upset with this problem... My girlfriend has a new 20" imac and the graphics are really terrible. We sent the publisher an email and this is the response we received:
The Sims™ 2 was designed for the PowerPC processor,
which is the processor used by previous Macintosh computers ( i.e. G3, G4, G5).
This is listed in the system requirements on the box.
There is a patch that will allow this game to run on an Intel processor.
You can find this patch at:
    http://support.aspyr.com/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&root=36&id=459
    However,
We have found that the HD Series cards have problems processing the graphics in some of our games.
We are currently working diligently with Apple to get these issues resolved. Since none of our titles were ever tested or approved for play on The ATI 2400/2600 that are in the new Intel iMacs, we cannot support any of our games on these machines at this time.
Apple did just release an Open GL update specifically for new Intel iMac with the ATI 2400/2600 in them.
    You can download it here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imacsoftwareupdate11.html
If you have not done so, you can subscribe to our newsletter (https://www.aspyr.com/news/newsletter_signup), which is sent out via email on a monthly basis. This newsletter is where we announce new projects. We also have a project status page at our website that shows what is being worked on.
With Apple constantly releasing new hardware it is impossible for us to develop games that are guarantied to work on any future hardware configurations. With that in mind, it is a good idea to wait a couple of weeks before purchasing any new software for brand new machines. It is also a good idea to contact the software developer to see if there are any problems with any software you are considering purchasing for a brand new machine.
Again, I assure you that we are working hard with Apple to get these issues worked out.
    Thanks for your patience.
    Have a nice day.
both of those attempts to solve the problem don't help....

  • The Sims 2 Expansion Packs and iMac Intels

    Hi everyone.
I have The Sims 2, University, Pets and Open for Business and I have a question. I have downloaded the patches from Aspyr so I'm no longer getting the dreaded PowerPC question at the beginning... however, when I played the Sims on my PC, I think that it always used the original Sims disc to play, not the expansion discs. Does anyone know why my Mac is asking me to put in the University disc when I assume it should be asking me to put in the original Sims 2 disc? I thought that the expansions were just upgrades and that the game always required the original disc to be in the drive to play? Can anyone advise on this? How does it work if I want to swap between Pets and Open for Business for example? Do I have to have each disc in to play? Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
    Tracy

First off, is it osx app or just windows. Second, if it is osx is it Universal binary or just ppc, or just intel. If it is just intel, you are fine. If it is ppc, then i would recommend picking up a windows os, and installing it in bootcamp. I have been running a few games in bootcamp and they all run great. I do not have the Santa Rosa MBP, i have the older 2.33 2gb ram, but this laptop runs multiple games at full graphics mode. You shouldnt have any problems running or installing the game.

  • How can I stop my Sims 3 game from crashing on my imac 3.06 Intel Core i3 "21.5 mid 2010?

Whenever I play my sims 3 game it crashes after just 30 min. I have all the expansion packs intstalled and I have checke my available space and that doesn't seem to be the problem. I have checked the system requirements various of times and it seems to be up to par. I can't figure out what is wrong.

First, go install all the CS6 updates -- you're still on 13.0.0!
