Simulated dots from screening effect?

Hi, I know I've done this before in a earlier version of Illustrator, but I can't remember how. I have a gausion blur, that I want to vectorize the screening, we print wide web flexo, and metallic inks have too much gain, so I want to vectorize the effect at say 65LPI, or 130ppi. can anyone help with this? In the past I was able to take a path's fill at 50%, and create large dots from that. I've tried the rasterize effect from the effects menu, with no luck.
Please advise.
Thank you.
Tom

...this job needs to be screened with different Linescreens,...The gold is the only line screen that I want at 65, everything else needs to be 150.
Again: Printing to a PostScript device, you should be able to set the halftone ruling, angle, and shape independently for each ink separation.
Plus, the result would be true halftones, not fake halftones consisting of just bunched up dots. In a real halftone, as the tone approaches 50% the dots don't just grow larger and collide, as with Illustrator's Color Halftone Effect and similar effects. The midtone dots of a true halftone change shape and "meld" into each other so that the tones above 50% transition into round dots also, not into the "pinched" 4-pointed stars. You want your 80% white dots to be round, just like your 20% black dots are round.

  • How to remove flicker effect from screens / projections?

    Hey,
I wondered if there's an option within Premiere Pro CC ( or AE) to remove flicker effects from screens and projections. I attached a jpg as an example of such a projection. Here is an anti flicker option in Premiere Pro, but it doesn't seem to have an effect on my problem.
    Cheers

You need to shoot scenes like that using a camera that allows Synchro-Scan, which can adjust the cameras scanning rate to that of the display in the shot.  Any mismatch between camera and siaplay is what causes the flicker, and Synchro-Scan is the only way to correct it without entirely removing the screen from teh shot and replacing it with another, usually via After Effects.

  • When I add my composition to the Adobe Media Encoder from After Effects, it renders out incorrectly?

Why is it that when I add my composition directly from after effects to the adobe media encoder, it renders out of the adobe media encoder incorrectly? By that I mean the video comes out a little scrambled- parts of it overlap other parts. Is this an issue with 'dynamic link'? Did I do something wrong? I'm working in CC.

I also don't understand what you are saying. What do you mean by "parts of it overlap other parts"? A screen shot might help.
What were your render settings in AME? (Format, Codec, data rate, etc.)
What is in your AE comp? If footage, tell us what format, codec, etc. Tell us what effects were used too.
What exact version number of AE CC are you using?

  • Screen effect in Photoshop.

    Hi, everyone.
I am trying to create a screen effect with Photoshop but can't seem to find the right way to do it. The screen I wish to create will be used to cover photos and give the illusion they are seen through screen door or something similar. I assume the effect is created with black dots equally spaced on a transparent background and saved as a PNG image. I can't figure out how to do it and how to make this dot pattern repetitive to fill the hole are of my image (or transparent background).
Here is a link to the effect I wish to duplicate:
    http://themes.themegoods.com/?theme=DK
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi, csuebele and JJMack,
Thanks to your help I have finally figured out how to do this.
I captured a screen shot of the effect I was trying to duplicate at the address I provided:
    http://themes.themegoods.com/?theme=DK
After that I opened that screen capture and enlarged it in Photoshop until I could see the individual pixels. The pattern used for that screen is a 3 by 3 pixels square with only the upper left most pixel black while all others are transparent. So I created a pattern just like that: transparent background, 3 pixels by 3 pixels square and painted the upper left one black. After that I saved it as a pattern,
Now when I apply that pattern as an overlay to my images it gives me precisely the same effect on the link. Great ! It gives the images the same effect.
Thank you very much to both of you for your help with my question. I really appreciate it !

  • Missing editing components from my effects panel

I just started using my Premiere Elements software on a Mac after having first used it on a PC.  I am trying to edit something and noticed that many of my keying effects are missing from the effects panel.  How do I find or restore them?  I need the keying effects for green and blue screen but all thosse are missing.  Please help.  Thanks!

Although the operations of Premiere Elements Windows and Mac are very similar, there are differences.
One of the differences is in the keying effects, such as Chroma Key, Green Screen Key, and Blue Screen Key. Many will steer you in the direction of Videomerge as a possible workaround. Not one of my favorites. But, you can check it out to see if it works for you.
Please take a look at my blog post on the use of the Difference Matte as a possible replacement for the keying effects not present in Premiere Elements Mac. This blog post would apply to Premiere Elements 11 as well as 12.
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/05/pe11-difference-matte-as-substitute-for.html
As for other Premiere Elements Windows and Mac differences, I have reported some in another of my blog posts directed to PE11: Mac Information Round Up
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/08/pe11-mac-information-round-up.html
I am strictly an Elements Windows user. So, that blog post was one of my initial steps to get acquainted to Premiere Elements Mac.
    Please review.
    Thanks.

  • Green screen effect?

is there a way in lightroom to like erase the background. like selecting a certain color and replace it with another image? like a green screen effect? im asking for lightroom because the computers in the studio where i work uses that only from adobe

Lightroom does not support this type of image editing or anything remotely close to it, and I very much doubt that it ever will. I suggest that you have a look at Photoshop, which is also an Adobe product, and is capable of doing what you describe.

  • Color in .mov file from After Effects CS6

Scrren shot of how my animation looks in After Effects CS6 (on the left), vs. how it looks when rendered to a .mov file. (on the right). See how washed-out the colors look?
I am on a Mac, latest software versions and OSX.7.4. The source material is in RGB mode,  Color Setting is Adobe RGB 1998, which is my wRGB working space. Color settings are synchronized across the entire suite. In the AE project settings, I see that color management is turned on and we are indeed in the  Adobe RGB 1998 color space.
Possibly export settings, because I do not know thing one about those!

Read this FAQ: What is the best format for rendering and exporting from After Effects?
Then I would suggest trying a different codec.  When you send your comp to the Render Queue it says lossless next ot the Output Module Settings, that means that it's using After Effect's defualt lossless settings, which uses a codec called Animation.  Animation is an ancient codec that delivers huge files and it isn't used so much in production anymore.  If you click on lossless the Output Module Settings screen will come up where you can change the format of your render and you can change the codec by hitting the Format Options button.
I've seen that washed out issue before with the Animation codec and just did some tests.  I also played with the Color Management settings using the Animation codec by going to the upper right hand tab in the Output Module Settings menu.  That seemed to have no effect on the final look of the render.  A quicktime render with the Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) codec seems to match the AE screenshot almost identically.
Unfortunately, you can't get the ProRes codecs without having either Final Cut Pro installed or Apple Motion.  I think it's possible to buy them from the Apple website.  However, there are other lossless codecs you can try such as Uncompressed YUV 10bit or 8bit, but I just did a test and I got a much darker render than the ProRes renders and the screenshot.  Judge for yourself what's best...
If you want ot know more, here's an FAQ on the basics of rendering and exporting in AE...

  • Calling list from Screen

I am new in the field of SAP ABAP. So please tell me how to "call list from screen 100". please give small prg. for this

    see below
This section describes how to switch from screen processing to list processing. It contains a short technical introduction, followed by a recommended procedure.
Switching Between Screen and List Processing
Screen processing always involves a screen sequence that you start either using CALL SCREEN or a transaction code. During screen processing, the ABAP program is controlled by the dialog processor. In the ABAP program, the PBO and PAI modules are executed as they are called from the screen flow logic.
To pass control from the dialog processor to the list processor, you must include the following statement in one of the dialog modules:
LEAVE TO LIST-PROCESSING [AND RETURN TO SCREEN <nnnn>].
You can include this statement in either the PBO or the PAI event. Its effect is to start the list processor and display the basic list after the PAI processing of the current screen. The basic list contains any list output from all PBO and PAI modules that have been executed up to that point.
If detail lists are defined in the corresponding event blocks of the ABAP program (AT LINE-SELECTION, AT USER-COMMAND), user actions on the basic list will lead to the detail list, and further interaction will lead to further list levels.
You can leave list processing in two ways:
By leaving the basic list using the Back, Exit, or Cancel function.
By using the following statement during list processing:
    LEAVE LIST-PROCESSING.
In both cases, control returns from the list processor to the dialog processor. Each time this occurs, the entire list system is initialized. Any subsequent list output statements in PBO and PAI modules apply to an empty basic list.
By default, the dialog processor returns to the PBO processing of the screen from which the list processor was called. The optional addition AND RETURN TO SCREEN allows you to specify a different screen in the current screen sequence at whose PBO event you want to resume processing. In particular, the statement
LEAVE TO LIST-PROCESSING AND RETURN TO SCREEN 0.
can be used to end the current screen sequence and return to the point from which it had originally been called.

  • Video screen effect

Hi, was wondering if someone could help me pls! I am doing a title sequence for a charity cabaret I was involved in organising, had it filmed and now Im editing it together. Im doing it up like the Saturday Night Live titles (big fan!) I've used footage I have taken from around London of theatres etc. mucked around with them in photoshop freezeframed them taken out the original theatre signs and replaced them with either pictures or strobed video footage. Im doing one of them in Picadilly Circus, bit fiddly, I want to try and mimic the video screen effect that you get. What I mean is the small lines that make up a video screen, so it looks vaguely connected to the picture. I;ve tried some filiters, but none of them look good. Halftone kind of works but its in black and white, I want to keep it in colour. I have tried doing a texture screen but the shapes dont seem to work at all. I hope Ive explained myself well! Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Just came up with an idea - take the stripes generator, rotate it, put a compound blur on it and feed that with the image you want to do the line-screen with, then put a threshold on that and voilá!
    Here's a project that demonstrates...
Is this what you had in mind?

  • HDV from After Effects to FCP - seeking advice...

I'm editing a concert which was shot with 5 cameras in Sony HDV (1080i), and FCP can actually play all 5 cameras in a multiclip synchronized with the canvas! (Dual G5, 1GB RAM) Well, it throws up an "Out Of Memory" red screen now and then, but I just ignore that and keep editing.
Now I'm creating an opening in After Effects set to HDV 1080i, and I'm wondering how to export (actually, MakeMovie) it. I've tried Animation / no compression and HDV / Keyframe every 15 frames. The Animation is about 20 times the file size of the HDV; they both play in FCP RT with some stuttering, they both render in the same amount of time, and they both look identical after rendering.
Can anyone suggest any other ways to export from After Effects so it will play without rendering in FCP?
I have a haunting feeling that if the GOP of the imported clip does not match the GOP of the timeline, I have to render. But I don't know how to detect the GOP of either.
Arghhh... how I suffer for art! Any suggestions would be welcome!

Hi James ... Yup, that's right, stacked on top of each other with opacity lowered on both as well! (I do like Macpros my old G5 went red when talking about HDV in the same room!!). I have though managed to replicate Seths problem by not using the same size comp. settings in AE. ie if my comp settings in AE are 320x 120 and I try resizing when rendering that seems to throw FCP off track, but if the AE comp settings are 1440 x 1080 and rendered at the same using HDV 1080 then FCP treats the quicktime footage as the same as Sony HDV.

  • Transferring from After Effects

I am trying to key out a green screen using After Effects.  The program itself does a better job with the footage I am using than FCP.  After I finish my work I am having trouble importing the footage back into a file that FCP can read.  Does anyone have any suggestions or tips on how I could export from After Effects into a file that FInal Cut can read or is there a possible direct way to send that footage to FCP.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

There are two ways to do this, use ProRes4444 or use the Animation codec. Open up the help system that comes with AE and look up how to set your rendering (not exporting) queue to produce a movie that contains the alpha channel.

right, i'd just like to add that this issue was solved by installing "proper" ati drivers, or lowering sync and refresh rates in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, one of those

  • Blue object on green background for green screen effect?

Hi. I am inserting an image into my video and need the background to be invisible. I use the green screen/blue screen feature, but it doesn't work because the picture I am using is of a blue object. A blue object on a green background. The green background disappears but the blue object turns brown. Is there any way I can exclude my blue object from the green screen/blue screen effect? Thank you.

Trying to reenact your problem .... no luck, green screen works :
ok, my 'green screen' is a graphic, offering the perfect green-bg
can you apply a screen-shot of your green-screen recording in your next post?
maybe, your blue is too greenish… ?
Play with the color-correction tool (red arrows)… maybe you can fix it that way....

  • Get information from screen and finding patterns

Hello! I want to try bot programming for games and stuff.
The main problem I have is that the bot input should be taken from screen, and bot output should be an input (like: move mouse, click, move mouse...)
Taking for example this simple game:
    http://www.onlinegames.com/basketball/
    The algorithm should be:
    1.- Find ball
    2.- Find basket
    3.- Find clicking place
    4.- Click
But I don't know how to get info from screen, finding patterns and writing the output.
Any clue on what should I read about? articles, keywords, whatever.
    Thank you very much!

Search for "artificial intelligence" - I think if you were able to solve the first two steps in your proposed algorithm you would become a millionaire :-)
Depending on the crudeness of the graphics in the game, you might be able to just search for a particular pattern of pixels, but it's not going to be fast.  If you're doing this to cheat in games, it would be far simpler and more effective to reverse engineer the communication protocol and send fake events back to the server...

  • I downlaoded Firefox 4 and now it won't let me open up on another screen..I have 2 screens side by side!!I used open up mulitable browsers and move them from screen to screen! Now i cant..Only opens to screen 1!!

Before i downloaded Firefox 4, i could open up mulitable screens and move them from screen to screen..I have one computer with 2 screens side by side..Say i open up your browser and then open up another browser session,I could then move that browser session to the other screen,,Great for researching and looking at different websites side by side!!Now i cant even shrink it and move that browser to the other side(other screen)..Before i could!!!

A brief and probably non-helpful answer: I know of no way to eliminate your large amount of duplicates other than by repetitive, tedious manual effort.
*There has got to be a simpler way.*
I hope you're right, but I don't think there is a simpler way.
BACKUP:  It also appears that the only way I can back up the catalog is to shut down LR.  Really?!
