Simulation tools

fellow "Apex" ies..any experience with simukation or "what if" tools???

Hi,
If you are after a means of performing load testing and/or measuring performance of your ApEx app, I have seen a demonstration of a Java tool called JMeter (Apache).
I haven't actually used it myself but from what I've seen, it looks quite good.
See: http://jakarta.apache.org/jmeter/ for more info.
Hope this is what you were after.

  • Cannot connect to database using the Upgrade Simulation Tool

I have installed the Upgrade Simulation Tool on my system and when I try to run the tool my system works in the for awhile in the background and creates the _Simulation mdf and ldf files and a .bck file.  After 3 or 4 minutes it gives me an error "Cannot connect to the database".
It looks to me like it is connecting to the database because it is creating the files in the SQL Data folder.  I have tried to run it on several databases and get the same results.
    Thank you, Jeff

    Hi,
You may not have the ability to upgrade it directly.
    He does have the ability.
When downloading Pl 42, it is cleary marked as "Upgrader", which means it can be used for upgrade (in this case simulation) from a lower version than 2007A
Patchlevel which are marked as "patch" are suitable only for updating the PL within the very same version of SAP Business One.
This tool should run under 2007 system I believe.
The Upgrade Simulation tool was designed in orderto test an upgrade, therefore it can run at a machine where 2005 version is installed. Technically speaking it creates a second SBO-common, which can be used only with the special designed (read only) client of the tool.
Jeff, you should check access rights of your SQL Data folder.Maybe grant user "Everyone" modifying rights to that folder. In addition you could try to detach a DB and move the related *.mdf and *.ldf to another folder where no access denied rights were applied.
If using MSSQL 2005 create via ODBC a Native Client connection to the Server, although you might just working locally only.

  • Simulation Tool for Order

    Hi,
Is there a simulation tool to simulate order to get preliminary commit date before sales order is created?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I was informed that availability check is too restrictive. Based on my understanding, it only considers based on the lead time of finish products, it does not consider the lead time of its raw or semi finished products in its bom. Pls correct me if I am wrong. Does availability check considers all materials in the BOM and also capacity requirements? Can availability check be used even when sales order is not entered but used in simulation mode?
    Thank you.

Lotus, htmlconverter may not convert your html code. If that happens copy and paste the converted code. The converterd code is independed of the class files generated by the compiler.

  • Product costing simulation tool

    Hi,
my client would like to simulate the inventory value for a determined material based on standard costs which is calculated by agregating the materials, the labour hours (activity type) and the building usage (activity type).
The tool should simulate the inventory value under different activity type prices that you provide to the system.
Does this tool exist in standard SAP?
If so, which is the tool (transaction, program... and how does it work?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Victoria,
If I have understood the problem clearly, there is no such tool. Simulation can be done in test system of SAP. Your client should have it.

  • Is Captivate 4 the right tool for my purposes?

This posting should not be misunderstood as bad mouthing Captivate 4. For the most part, I really appreciate Adobe products and have invested a significant amount of personal money into many Adobe products over the years.
My current role involves designing a course curriculum using Adobe Captivate 4 and Adobe Connect Pro. Unfortunately, I am becoming increasingly concerned that I may be using the wrong tool, at least, in regards to developing all parts of a lesson. Perhaps my workflow will improve if I develop the front facing portion of my lessons with Lectora, and use Captivate solely for creating software simulations?
Because I have already spent a lot of time building my first lessons, and I have a subscription to Adobe Connect Pro, I would rather solve the issues I listed, rather than start over.
My question is... are my issues based on my lack of knowledge with Captivate 4, or am I experiencing real issues with this product? If it is my lack of knowledge, please tell me how to solve my issues.
At this point, I would like to give kudos to Rick Stone (known as Captiv8r) for all his help as a hired consultant. I highly recommend his services. Without him, I probably would not have gone as far as I have with Captivate.
Please correct or comment on the followin…
    Minor annoyances
    -    Too easy to accidentally move objects. Double clicking on a small graphic or a text caption can easily cause it to move or change size slightly. No way to lock their position only (e.g. lock text position but still allow editing).
    -    Text caption boxes mysterious maximize (vertically) from time to time.
    -    Grouping of objects is not possible.
    -    Previewing “From this slide – F8” does not take into account (or initialize) persistent graphics (or otherwise) on the first slide or template; this results in missing objects when doing a quick preview.
    -    Item names/variables are unwieldy. I have a number of graphics which I re-use throughout a lesson. I want to give each of them common names, such as ico_jobaid, img_core_splash, etc. Unfortunately, I cannot use identical names throughout a lesson. Each page requires a unique name for every object. This results in an item name like ico_interactive.png (as it is named in the library), appearing as TImageItem681 and TImageItem680 (copied twice) on a slide.
This is common for every object and makes it difficult to control objects.
    Major issues
    -    Occasionally I insert a graphics that can’t be made visible.
    -    .cp file size seems to continuously increase in size, despite removing unused resources.
    -    Text bullet issues (ending bullets occasional show up as a larger size)
    -    Roll-over slidlets do not work as intended in AS3 mode. I must preview or publish in AS2.
    -    Recording Software Simulations!
Captivate 4 allows recording of simulations in up to four modes (Demonstration, Training, Assessment, and Custom). Unfortunately, it appears to record these simulations are separate and distinct recordings. This is a problem because call-outs and other edits must be repeated for each simulation. Other simulation tools record once and can be edited once for passive and/or interactive viewing.
    -    Buttons! Multiple buttons/text captions on a slide.
If I want to place multiple buttons on a slide, I must follow these steps to make these buttons/captions work properly. This is an unreasonable amount of work in order to use buttons on a single slide.
Step 1 - Determine the frame value. Note: It seems that if the frame value is not included, the lesson will move to the next slide, after clicking one button. Another caveat is that adding or removing slides may change the correct frame value.
    1. Click Insert from the top menu,
    2. Select Standard Objects,
    3. Select Text Caption,
    4. Click the Insert Variable button,
    5. Select System from the Variable Type pull-down menu,
    6. Select rdinfoCurrentFrame from the Variables pull-down menu.
    7. Position the text caption appropriately on the screen. You may need an appropriate pause inserted in order to see the value.
    8. Click Preview and select Project from the pull-down menu (or Click F4),
    9. Step through slide show to the slide where rdinfoCurrentFrame text variable was inserted and record the displayed value.
Step 2 – Insert Button control
    1. Click Insert from the top menu,
    2. Select Standard Objects,
    3. Select Button,
    4. Choose appropriate button and button options (skipping steps),
    5. Click Ok,
    6. Position button appropriately.
Step 3 – Setting up advanced actions.
    1. Click Project from top menu,
    2. Select Actions,
    3. Click the Advanced Actions tab,
    4. Click the Edit / Create Action Pull down menu and select Create a New Action…,
    5. In the new action name: text box, type action name (i.e. but_core_console),
    6. Double click twice on Add Statement (sometimes it doesn’t behave as it should),
        – this feature seems error prone.
    7. Double click twice on Statement (in red),
    8. Select Standard Action from pull-down list,
    9. Select Show from pull-down list,
    10. Select object name (text caption) you wish to show,
    11. Repeat (if necessary),
    12. Select hide and the element name you wish to hide and repeat as necessary,
    13. Double click twice on Add Statement (sometimes it doesn’t behave as it should)
    – this feature seems error prone.
    14. Double click twice on Statement (in red),
    15. As the last step, select Assignment from pull down list,
    16. Select rdcmndGotoFrame from pull down list,
    17. Select Value from pull-down list,
    18. Enter the frame value (as determined Step 1),
    19. Click Save.
    For the next buttons,
    1. Click the Duplicate button,
    2. Edit the New action name: name appropriately,
    3. Edit the information in the Advanced actions for the this action. (skipping steps)
    4. Click Save.
    Repeat as necessary!
    Configuring buttons
    1. Double click on first button,
    2. In the section, “If the user clicks on the button”,
click on “On success” pull-down menu and select, “Execute advanced action”.
    3. Click the Action pull-down menu and select the appropriate named action.
    Repeat as necessary.
    -    Building buttons for several slides will create a large number of advance actions. Even though these advanced actions are only applicable to a single slide, they are viewable from any slide in a lesson. The number of actions (or advanced actions) quickly adds up in a complex lesson.
    -    Cannot find a way to edit the default look (object positioning/object sizes) of a quiz. The only attribute that seems changeable is the font size.
    Lock ups and crashes
    -    Double clicking on a .cp file will often result in Captivate freezing at the start up screen.
    -    Captivate crashes and sometimes predictably, especially where animations are inserted.

The only one that can answer that question is yourself ;o)
I wrote my comments and suggestions with red text here. My company uses Captivate to develop courses and so far we have been very happy with Captivate. Earlier we used Flash to develop courses, but the development time was very long so Captivate has allowed us to speed up the development process with 2-300%. We still use Flash quite a lot to build interactions etc. and import these into Captivate to add extra features.
We did look at a variety of tools when we wanted to find an alternative to Flash but at that time (we started with Captivate 2) we found that the best option was indeed Captivate. I regularly check up on competing products and there are some interesting alternatives available now but they are not as advanced as Captivate imho.
When that is said. Captivate is (and has always been) full of weird bugs and things that aren't working properly. This is extremely annoying but we have learned to work our way around most of them. It also seems that the stability of Captivate varies greatly from installation to installation. We are 8 people in my department all working with Captivate. Our computers are all the same and the OS is a corporate standard. Despite this some people here have some weird problems with Captivate that I never experience. I can't explain why it happens (and neither can they) but it could be the installation or it could be the way people work. An example is "missing/corrupt" Captivate files. We have always been working directly on a network drive. This is something that is often recommended against doing because it can cause corrupt Captivate files. The interesting thing is that I have never once experienced a corrupt Captivate file even though i have opened, worked on and saved many thousands of them from/to our network drive. One of my colleagues had around 20 occurences of corrupt Captivate files in the same timespan and from the same network drive.
The biggest problem in Captivate is the quiz module in my opinion. The quiz module is probably the most important when we talk about E-learning development tools and that is where Captivate is the weakest. You can't really customize your quizzes, there isn't enough different question types and interaction types, you can't use video but worst of all - it is unstable and buggy. Users can get stuck in a quiz without being able to move forward or backwars, the review quiz is buggy etc.
One thing I often see with Captivate developers is that they try and do everything in Captivate. While most things are possible to do in Captivate then it might no be the best solution. Some things can be created in Flash and imported into Captivate saving you tons of time and grief and in the end give you a much better end-product. I know that everyone doesn't have access to a Flash programmer, but then you can buy your way out of the problem.
If you are looking for a tool where you can have full control of everything in your courses then the only real solution is Adobe Flash. This will allow you to build the courses exactly as you please but it comes at a big price. It gets way more complex to create courses, which results in longer development times and updating your existing course becomes much more difficult and time consuming.
    Minor annoyances
    -    Too easy to accidentally move objects. Double clicking on a small graphic or a text caption can easily cause it to move or change size slightly. No way to lock their position only (e.g. lock text position but still allow editing).
Doesn't really bother me but I guess it's different from person to person. You could just click on the object in the timeline instead to avoid moving the object.
    -    Text caption boxes mysterious maximize (vertically) from time to time.
    I never experienced that.
    -    Grouping of objects is not possible.
I agree that this could be handy on slides with many objects.
    -    Previewing “From this slide – F8” does not take into account (or initialize) persistent graphics (or otherwise) on the first slide or template; this results in missing objects when doing a quick preview.
Yes but if Captivate was to take into account everything that happened earlier than previewing from this slide you might as well click preview project (F4).
I think this is the same in any application.. The whole idea of naming objects is that they have a unique name to be identified and manipulate later. I do however agree that the default naming in Captivate sucks. If the resource is named ico_interactive.png in the library, then Captivate should name it slide1_ico_interactive.png as the object name. It would make it easier and quicker to identify the correct resources.
    Major issues
    -    Occasionally I insert a graphics that can’t be made visible.
I never experienced that with properly configured graphics. Sure you can have problems if you insert a CMYK image or a 300 dpi image, but if you use RGB 72dpi images then it works fine. (at least it always have for me).
    -    .cp file size seems to continuously increase in size, despite removing unused resources.
True but I never really experienced this as a problem. In Captivate 3 it could really get out of hand, but in CP4 it's much better. Alternatively create a blank Captivate file with the same dimensions and copy/paste your slides into that. (Don't know how it will behave with all your advanced actions though).
    -    Text bullet issues (ending bullets occasional show up as a larger size)
It is because you have a different font size on the last line of the caption. Just do a CTRL-A to select all the text and select the proper font size. Alternatively adjust the default font and size to what you want in Captivate to avoid this in the future.
    -    Roll-over slidlets do not work as intended in AS3 mode. I must preview or publish in AS2.
Didn't know that - you should probably report it as a bug if you haven't done so already.
Agree - this is rather annoying.
    -    Buttons! Multiple buttons/text captions on a slide.
From what I understand you have a whole bunch of buttons on a slide and then when the user clicks on one it shows some text / image? If that is the case then yes it will be a tedious process to build all this. I don't know if it would be easy in any other applications though (surely most of the other Rapid E-learning tools won't even be able to do it). Perhaps it would be better to rethink the way you build the course. Can't you use rollover captions / images instead?
Another alternative is to build these "interactions" in Flash and then import them into Captivate. Basically you would need to build a couple of different templates where you would be able to reuse the Flash framework and only change images/text in Flash and then importo it into Captivate.
    -    Cannot find a way to edit the default look (object positioning/object sizes) of a quiz. The only attribute that seems changeable is the font size.
This is a major handicap in Captivate and one of the reasons why we don't use Captivate quizzes in our courses. We build all our course in Captivate (and add Flash and other interactions) but we always use a Flash Quiz. The Captivate quiz is simply too ugly and unstable. We deploy courses to 35.000 people worldwide so stability is our number one priority and sadly Captivate quizzes don't offer that at this point.
    Lock ups and crashes
    -    Double clicking on a .cp file will often result in Captivate freezing at the start up screen.
I never had that problem. I use Win XP, Vista 64-bit and Win7 64-bit.
    -    Captivate crashes and sometimes predictably, especially where animations are inserted.
I am using both a Windows 7 64 bit and a Windows Vista 32 bit OS. I have tried the following options with seemingly no difference: RUN AS Admin, XP Compatibility mode
My regular development PC runs Windows XP Pro. I never have any problems here. On Vista 64-bit I have a ton of problems, but Captivate didn't crash or lock up - it simply didn't perform the actions I wanted it to do. So far on Windows 7 I haven't encountered any crashes or problems. However there is no doubt that Captivate 4 was designed with Win XP in mind and Vista and Win7 are not native platforms for it.

  • Searching for a Niagara Simulator...

While most people in this group are waiting for Verilog/RTL code, our research group has been looking for any source level simulator for the UltraSPARC T1 (or Open equivalent.)
We are hoping to find a simulator with source code that we can augment to research enhancements to the T1 architecture. Naturally, we would sign any required legal agreements.
We have been trying to find a simulator for quite awhile, and to date we haven't been able to find a single contact within Sun, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hoping to hear from anyone in Sun.
    - Jeff Diamond
    University of Texas, Austin

    Hi Jeff,
    You'll soon be in luck!
Sun's entire UltraSPARC processor simulator will be available in both source and binary form, along with the Verilog source to the OpenSPARC T1 processor. Both are currently available in the OpenSPARC "Beta" program; as soon as the Beta progam completes, all will be released for open access by anyone. Stay tuned to the OpenSPARC Announcement Forum (http://forum.sun.com/forum.jspa?forumID=281) or subscribe to the email announcement list (http://opensparc.sunsource.net/servlets/ProjectMailingListList) to be notified when all the code is released.
Furthermore, down the road, we expect that additional simulation tools will be released.

  • Software simulation issue - help!

When extending the screen of my laptop by using an additional monitor and using the software simulation tool on Captivate 7, I have re-sized and aligned the red record border to the correct size (1280 x 720) and recorded the action. When the slides appear in Captivate, the red border can be seen, the recorded area has moved and the mouse position is now wrong.
I need the extended monitor because the laptop has the wrong resolution for what I am recording. Is there a way to resolve this?

  • Simulation error : size mismatch in mixed language port association with VIVADO simulator

    Hi,
I have instantiated a VHDL module in  a verilog top file . When I tried to simulate the verilog top , I received the following error .
ERROR : Size mismatch in mixed language port association , vhdl port  vid_data
(Simulation tool : VIVADO simulator . VIVADO ver : 2015.1)
// Following is the instantiation of  VHDL module in verilog top file
    VPS  VPS_inst
         .clk (VPS_clk),
         .reset_n(~user_reset),
         .vid_active_video(data_valid),
         .vid_data(data_to_mem)
The port 'vid_data' is declared in the VHDL module as std_logic_vector (15 downto 0)
    "vid_data   : out std_logic_vector(15 downto 0)"
'data_to_mem' is declared in verilog top file as  "wire  [15:0]   data_to_mem" .
No size mismatch exists actually . But , I am getting the above mentioned error in simulation.
I have searched for similar threads . Nothing was useful .
Does anyone know how to solve this?
    Thanks and Regards
    Raisa

You might also get this error if you mis-spelled "data_to_mem" such that the declaration did not match the instantiation port map.  For example:
wire  [15:0] data__to_mem;  // double underscore before "to"
    VPS  VPS_inst
         .clk (VPS_clk),
         .reset_n(~user_reset),
         .vid_active_video(data_valid),
.vid_data(data_to_mem)  // only one underscore before "to"
In Verilog this is not an error unless you disable automatic net inference.  In this case Verilog is happy to create a single wire for data_to_mem, but then you would be trying to attach a 1-bit wire to a 16-bit port.  That would also be valid in Verilog, but not allowed for connections to VHDL.
I typically avoid this sort of error by placing:
    `default_nettype none
at the top of each Verilog file, and
    `default_nettype wire
at the bottom of each Verilog file.  This prevents the automatic creation of wires when you mis-spell or forget to declare nets.

  • Adobe Captivate 4 Simulation Project

I've been asked to use Adobe Captivate 4 to create a simulation of company software.
I understand how to use the simulation capabilities of Captivate, but this project can easily get extremely large.
I can picture hundreds of slides for one of the many processes.
Since we always try to keep our projects to 60 slides or less, I am not sure Captivate is the best choice.
Has anyone had experience with creating simulation projects with Captivate 4.
If so, are we truely limited to a given number of slides, etc?
Should I be exploring other software to create this project?
    Thank you,
    David Gambal
    TMG Health

    David,
Cp4 did seem to have some limits when it came to the number of slides it could handle, but I believe the actual number was well over 100.  Maybe someone else can chime in with their personal experiences, but I've used it to create simulation project with more than 100 slides without issue.  However if you were going for 200-400 slides then you might be in dicey territory.
If you were going to have to purchase another tool to do this anyway, why not just consider upgrading to Captivate 5.5?  I don't know of any other software simulation tool that does it better than Captivate.

  • Modeling tools

My question has to do with the use of Process Composer as a modeling tool rather than using a vendor program like ARIS from IDS Scheer.
My assumption is that if I wont use the simulation, and other modeling tools from ARIS then I will be better off modeling directly on the SAP Process Composer. Since the model is already on SAP the execution should be direct. If I use the ARIS modeler then I guess I have to synchronyze and "export" to SAP Netweaver BPM.
Has anyone used the ARIS Modeler to later export to SAP BPM? If so, is this process direct or are there pitfalls, or how easy this is ... advantages vs disadvantages.
I´d like to hear what pro´s and con´s and limitations or advantages for each one of these two modeling options.
    Regards,
    Enrique Vignau
    Mexico

    Hi David,
I found your response really helpful. Our company comes from the BPM "Pure Play" world. We are Systems Integrators for HandySoft, TIBCO, other BPM tools. We also have a company within the group that does digitizing and a third company that implements SAP Systems. So we are interessted in becoming SAP BPM experts or BPX to the SAP ecosystem. We are in the process of learning to use the Process Modeler.
My question is twofold. I have two diferent scenarios.
Scenario A: I have a customer that already purchased ARIS and they started some months ago modelling all their processes in that tool. They plan to use SAP BPM and they wish to export these process models (BPMN) from the ARIS repository to SAP BPM to execute. They are asking me if that will be / is possible and if that is a sound movement. I told them what I learned at the SAP BPM Forum at Las Vegas. That is, just what you responded to me; that if one could model directly in the Process Modeler I don´t see any advantages to use ARIS. keeping a "simulation" model takes time and consumes resources to make the "model" as close to the reality to really make it worthwhile to use as a simulation of what could happen. But I did not know there is no capability to import models from other process modelers as of now. This is important since many customers might already have process models in MEGA or ARIS or some other BPA tool and they could "loose" that work.
Scenario B: A new customer that does not use MEGA or ARIS nor they plan to use any simulation tool. Will they ve able to keep control of versioning and how will they keep governance of the process model repository? Will that happen in Solution Manager?
    Regards,
    Enrique

  • JavaCard Simulation

Iam new to javacard development. I have downloaded the kit and built the samples.
The process of generating script file and running apdutool are clear.
The apdutool is generating some big output which iam not able to understand.
    Iam doing simulation with CREF.
    Suppose for JavaPurse Applet
My doubt is How can we enter the PIN and Credit and Debit amount and where can we see balance.
I have simulator which I have downloaded from http://www.wrankl.de/JavaCard/smartcafe.zip
The simulator is very clear. It is showing APDU's neatly and prompting user values for Credit and Debit.
I wish to acheive the simulator kind of features through card kit.
    How can I get it?
Any one please help me out.
    Thanks in advance

I mean any mobile simulation tool like J2ME tool kit can load these STK Applications.
Please answer if u can give me any direction.
    thanks,

  • Simulating a Network?

    Hiya!
I'm currently working on a gaming-protocol which will be prototyped in java (for it's simplistic networking capabilities). The problem though is that I need to simulate a network. With this I mean that I have to be able to start several instances of my protocol and somehow assign each of them a unique IP which can be used for communicating. Does anyone know if there is any way to do this - some kind of network simulation tool for Java which implements all TCP/IP classes and that can simulate different speeds, etc. Thanks in advance
    /Daniel

Nope - anyways, I already got the answer to my question. The thing is that it's pretty hard to simulate true tcp/ip if you are not using it and doing that on a large scale using a single PC isn't that easy. During the early stages I will loopback, but that only gives me 127.0.0.* addresses. If I really want to put it to a test, I will need at least a 100000 addresses. I may as well say what I'm proposing to do. I've been designing a high level protocol which is to be used for anything involving large amounts of users and information (e.g. computer games, filesharing, transactions). As you can see when playing most online games or joining kazaa (or similar), the number of users are severely limited because of lacking bandwidth (or rather too big a data flow).

  • Simulating jsp application

    Hi all,
I have developed an application using jsp. And tested the application for small amount data. Now i want to do the simulation for large data(with the help of small data available)to predict the performance at the real time.
Any one could suggest me any tools or methods to simulate the jsp application.
I am waiting for the valuable inputs on this.

It depends on how your application processes data. Do you use stored procedures or do you use servlets? Or do you just use some SQL scripts on your JSP page?
If you use stored procedures or servlets, it will be simple. Just put a whole bunch of data on a delimited text file. Write a simple script (it can be Java, Perl, or whatever you are comfortable with) to read the text file and then pass the data to the stored procedures or servlets. Keep in mind that you are not volume-testing the JSP GUI, you are volume-testing your processing machanism.
If you put all your SQL scripts on the JSP page, it will be tough to volume-test it.
There is a software called Loadrunner. It is a simulation tool for stress test and volume test. It might help you.
