Simultaneous Bands Question

Does this mean that with the simultaneous bands, b/g devices won't bring down the speed of the N network? One of the biggest problems with the Time Capsule has been that to really have it work as a backup device, I have to also create a separate G network for the b/g devices (like iPhones and old Macs). This naturally takes away a lot of the simplicity of the Time Capsule. If I don't create the G network, anytime an iPhone or older mac connects to the network, the network speed drops to G. Thus, wireless backups come to a halt.
I am hoping that this new Time Capsule solves this issue, but the wording on the site isn't explicit enough. Hence, this question

Yes, that is the major point of this update -- it can operate in both bands simultaneously, so that b/g use doesn't slow down the N network.

  • 6502i with 5508WLC Dual-Band question

    I recently purchased a few 6502i APs and have them connected to our 5508 WLC.   I have all of the bands available, WMM, and all the MCS rates supported.   For some reason, I'm not seeing the new APs listed under "Dual-Band Radios".    Is there something I'm missing?

    Ha! no worries.  Ok, so 3602i/e, running at least 7.2 (possibly 7.1....) to support them.
    What version of code are you running specificaly?  And still, were are you seeing the Dual-Band thing.
    Is it that you are not seeing the A radio in the list?

  • Beginner garage band question

    I put something together (calling it a song is a stretch) in Garage Band for a function at my daughters school. It's supposed to play continuously for about 40 mins. It's 4 minutes long so I want it to loop 10 times. I did share to itunes and was able to get an mp3 on my ipod What is the best way to make this 4 min garage band song loop for 40 mins and play from a cd? Can I set Garage Band to loop 40 times and export to itunes?

    IF, the song can be looped seamlessly, You can use the cycle function to make it loop endlessly. Once you have that going to your satisfaction, download a copy of the freeware Wire Tap, which will allow you to record an almost unlimited amount of time (I think it is only limited by the HD space you have availabel, and yes, you are looking at 400 megs easisy!) from any source on your computer. Make sure the very end of the song goes seamlessly to the beginning. Then, simply hit the record button on Wire Tap, and quickly the play button in GB, and then watch the clock. Stop the Wire Tap recording at 40 minutes, and voila! You have a single 40 minute loop of your song to burn to a CD, with no worrying about iTunes settings at all.

  • E2000 dual band question for a noob

    Can the e2000 use 2.4ghz for my laptop but use 5ghz for my wife's laptop.I know the band is selectable but what I am trying to find out is can I tell the router to use a specific band for each laptop.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    The E2000 is a dual band single radio router. You can select either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. But as it is single radio only you can only operate on one frequency but not both at the same time.

  • Simultaneous bands not happening

    I own a 2nd generation AirPort Extreme Base station, but I've never been able to find more than one band. It suppose to have dual bands, right?
    Any idea what I'm missing?
    Thanks!

    Thanks for that. I got to the bottom of it with MacTracker. I was confused, because it was sold to me as being the latest at the time - and 3rd Generation. (I went back through my e-mail and looked.) Turns out that eBayer was less than honest.  Wish I had been more observant those couple years ago.

  • Simultaneous Connections Questions

    I'm trying to understand the Servlet Model and tried to
    simulate 10 simultaneous connections to the same servlet
    but it didn't respond as expected so I'm asumming that
    I've done something wrong and would like your help on this
    learning.
    I used the servlet sniplet as follows:
    public class SlowServlet extends HttpServlet {
         public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res)
                   throws IOException {
              res.setContentType("text/html");
              PrintWriter pw = res.getWriter();
              pw.println("<html><head><title>SlowServlet</title></head>");
              pw.println("<body>");
              try {
                   //simulate excessive processing by sleeping for 1 sec.
                   Thread.sleep(1000);
              } catch(InterruptedException ex) {
                   pw.println("Error: "+ex);
              pw.println("<h2>SlowServlet</h2>");
              pw.println("<ul><li>Servlet receives 10 simultaneous request for <tt>service()</tt> method.");
              pw.println("</li><li>Servlet container invokes 10 concurrent threads for the same servlet.");
              pw.println("</li><li>But executed sequentially - but it shouldn\'t.");
              pw.println("</li></ul>");
              pw.println("</bode></html>");
    }Then I used a JSP page to call the servlet as follows:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Frameset//EN">

  • WiFi Simultaneous 2.4ghz & 5ghz?

    I have an Asus RT-N56U router and have both bands turned on.  The 2.4ghz has an SSID of LT and the 5ghz has an SSID of LT5G.  How do I set up the iPhone 5 to connect to both bands simultaneously? I can connect to the 5ghz band fine but would like to take advantage of Simultaneous Bands for the theoretical 150mbps.

    One or the other.

    Just configured a new wireless router. Would like to input on optimizing for ATV2.

    I have the 5 ghz looking at all of my atvs(3)of them plus the channels are set higher than my neighbors.
    All other laptops in my house are looking at the 2.4 ghz Connection and not the 5 ghz.
    So I have split the signals so the atvs run on a dedicated line without problems.
    Are the atvs on the 5ghz band set on n band only? Besides channel settings any other. Do you have wmm enabled.

  • Newest TC (late 2009) 5Ghz band connection timeout!

    Ok, i have had al 3 versions of Time Capsule.
    First one, no good 5ghz connection. Dropped out constantly.
    Second gen, simultaneous band. (very good No problems on 5Ghz. Always 300Mbit.
    Now i got the newest TC today (the simultaneous II)
    I can't get the 5 Ghz to work. I tried different channels, country's, names. I only get the fault connection interrupted. Can;t get in. No problems at 2,4 ghz. I am very close to the TC. That can't be the problem, especially since the new TC has even better antenna's. (i had very good coverage with the second gen).
    What am i doing wrong? anyone else same problems? Golden tips?
    Thanx

    Here's just a short description of my troubles with Time Capsule.
    Problems with 5GHz on TC (Simultaneous Dual-Band II) and iMac 27" Core 2 Duo.
    Totally default settings won't even operate in 5GHz, just b/g/n (link speed 130). iMac and TC have clear line of sight and are about 3 meters apart.
    I do manage to get 5GHz connection when I select Wireless Options 5 GHz Network Name and make different from 2.4Gz Network. I use wide channels (have also tried without). Very often iMac won't connect to 5GHz Network but sometimes it does. (I have tried interference robustness, no use.)
    When it does connect link speed is 300 and signal levels are pretty good -40dB with -90dBn noise. Copying files in Finder between TC and iMac I get over 10MB/s speeds, which is nice. BUT Time Machine is not able to backup anything. It gives various errors at different stages of backup. "Calculating changes" forever, "Making backup disk available". In system.log:
    "Authentication error - the correct user or password info may not exist in the System.keychain or the server may no longer allow access for this user."
    "Indexer unavailable (200)"
    "Backup failed with error: 19"
    "Backup failed with error: 29"
    "Stopping backupd to allow ejection of backup destination disk!"
    "Error: Flushing index to disk returned an error: 0"
    When I switch back to 2.4GHz (worse signal), TM works again.

  • Are both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks enabled by default?

    I have a TC 4th Gen and, according to the box it has both 2.4Ghz and 5GHz networks. Simultaneously.
    Questions: Is this so? What makes a device choose 2.4GHz or 5GHz?
    Thanks!
    Fernando

    Is this so?
    Yes. Both bands use the same wireless network name.
    What makes a device choose 2.4GHz or 5GHz?
    Assuming that a wireless device is capable of connecting to a 5 GHz band (an iPhone cannot), it will "look" at both bands and choose the band with the best quality...which is a combination of signal strength and low noise.
    5 GHz signals are not as strong as 2.4 GHz signals, so if the computer is a few rooms away from the router, it likely will connect to the 2.4 GHz band because those signals penetrate and travel through obstructions more effectively. 5 GHz signals are absorbed more quickly by any obstructions.
    You can "force" a device to only connect to the 5 GHz band by assigning a different name to that band using Wireless Network Options and then "point" the computer at that network. But, that is no guarantee that this will be a better connection. It might be inferior to the 2.4 GHz signal.
    For most users, it is probably best to leave the router in its default settings and allow the wireless devices to choose and connect to the band with best quality. After all, isn't that what you want?
    Want to know which band your Mac is connected to at any given time?  Hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the screen and look at the Channel info.

  • Newbie needs advice on how to approach a new project using iMovie/Cubase

    Hi all.
    As you have probably guessed it's a music to picture problem, never done it before so I need some advice. I'm doing a guitar tuition DVD so there will be some playing and some speech. I can combine both real time via the mixing desk and feed it straight to the camera's mike input. This seems to be the least flexible and most low tech approach. I would prefer to fiddle about in Cubase to get the audio right before fixing it to the video. I am unsure how to use iMovie and Cubase in a combined way to produce what I'm after. Cubase will handle video and iMovie will handle sound but which way round do I do it? I'm at a loss as even what questions to ask! At the moment I'm setting iMovie to record from the camera, setting Cubase to record the audio and clapping in time with the count in to act as a sync. Once I have my audio file I can import the vid into Cubase or import the audio into iMovie. Am I missing something here or is this the right way to do it? ( I might sound vaguely clever but don't rely on it in your answers ! I'm a guitarist after all....)
    TIA Nick.

    musicians are used to do everything simultanously (=band), film/video is doing each thing after the other ;-):
    I would
    * record the video to a camcorder, incl. guitar/music but NO voice-over…
    * import that into iM…
    * edit all together
    * THEN use this as a "click track" for any audio processing…, mainly adding the narration
    * re-import the final audio track back to iM, create videoDVD, getting rich by selling zillions of them....
    advantage: you concentrate on playing guitar OR telling the tricks&clues...
    besides: whatfor you need Cubase in such a project...? or is it "Guitar IN Cubase"?

  • Thread safe operations on table in pl/sql procedure?

    I am developing java application which will be running in N localizations simultaneously, each application will have M threads. Every thread takes an unique ID with status NOT_TAKEN from table Queue and changes its status to TAKEN.
    Problem:
    How to prevent thread from situation like this:
    1. Thread A select first ID with status NOT_TAKEN
    2. In the same time thread B select first (so it will be the same ID which selected thread A) ID with status NOT_TAKEN.
    3. Thread A changes status of ID to TAKEN
    4. Thread B changes status of ID to TAKEN
    After this operation thread A and B are using the same ID.
    What I did:
    I have written pl/sql procedure which lock table Queue in exclusive mode, selects first ID, changes its status to TAKEN and unlocks the table. Because it is lock in exclusive mode so only one thread can run this procedure simultaneously.
    Question:
    How optimally should it be solved, because mine solution prevents from doing all other Updates on Queue table while it is locked, like changing status from TAKEN to OPERATION_DONE so it has performance issue.

    As Centinul has said, you need to lock just one row.
    I would just add NOWAIT to the select statement to let the Java thread go and try again, instead of waiting for the other threads.
    Example: (not tested)
    -- Assuming structure of your QueueTable: ( IDCol is PK , StatusCol is VARCHAR2, ... )
    -- or make it part of the package....
    CREATE OF REPLACE
    FUNCTION updateQueue( nQID QueueTable.IDCol%TYPE) RETURN VARCHAR2 AS
       eLocked EXCEPTION;
       PRAGMA EXCEPTION_INIT(eLocked,-54);
       CURSOR curQueueTable IS SELECT 1 CNTR FROM QueueTable WHERE IDCol=nQID AND StatusCol='NOT_TAKEN' FOR UPDATE OF StatusCol NOWAIT;
       recQueueTable curQueueTable%ROWTYPE;
       cRtn VARCHAR2(1);
    BEGIN
       cRtn := 'Y';
       BEGIN
          OPEN curQueueTable;
          FETCH curBuffSummary INTO recQueueTable;
          CLOSE curQueueTable;
          IF recQueueTable.CNTR IS NOT NULL AND recQueueTable.CNTR = 1 THEN
              UPDATE QueueTable SET StatusCol = 'TAKEN' WHERE IDCol=nQID;
          ELSE
              -- Already updated
              cRtn := 'N';
          END IF;
             -- You can control your transaction here as well
             -- COMMIT;
             -- But if realy should be done in the Java thread.
        EXCEPTION
           WHEN eLocked OR STANDARD.TIMEOUT_ON_RESOURCE THEN
           -- Thread could not get exclusice row lock. Ignore error.
             cRtn := 'N';
             NULL;
          WHEN OTHERS THEN
             -- Handle other errors...
             -- NULL; just kidding...
             RAISE;
       END;
       RETURN cRtn;

    itunes top music videos - this takes you to top music vids on the itunes USA site, not for instance the itunes UK site. Most if not all US vids are not available on the UK site. Yet the UK site has it's own top 10 vids that are available????

    Its a bit technical, so bear with me:
    All users originate from a public IP address when accessing a site (be it web site, ecommerce site, bank, or iTunes).
    That IP address can be revealed by going to a website like www.whatismyip.com.
    From this IP address, Geo-location information can be gathered -- this means that it is possible (with a good degree of accuracy) to determine where in the world you are making your request from.
    So, for example -- if you log into an ISP in the States, and hit www.cnn.com, you will appear as a US consumer in their log files. If you hit that web page from Hong Kong, they will know you're from Hong Kong. Some web sites will automatically redirect you to the nearest server to give you the best performance possible. Sometimes e-commerce sites will subscribe to a service, such as Quova to give them richer Geo-Location data about their consumers.
    Here is an example of a Quova look-up for the www.apple.com IP address:
    Name: eg-www.apple.com
    IP Address: 17.112.152.32
    IP Type: Mapped
    Continent: north america
    Country: us
    Region: southwest
    Metro City: sacramento
    Metro State: ca
    State: ca
    City: sacramento
    Zip: 95899
    Latitude: 38.581902
    Longitude: -121.493500
    Timezone: -8.000000
    DMA: 862
    PMSA 6920
    Connection Type: tx
    Line Speed: high
    Top Level Domain: com
    Second Level Domain: apple
    IP Routing Method: international proxy
    AOL: 0
    ASN: 714
    Carrier: apple computer, inc.
    Area Code: 916
    Message: proxy
    It tells us the following information: This host is connected via high speed ehternet (probably gigabit ethernet) to a data center operated by autonomous system number 714 (Apple Computer) in Sacramento, California in area code 916. The IP address is registering as a PROXY because it is believed that more than one machine is located behind that IP address. It is likely that this IP address is a virtual IP address on a load balancer for which there are multiple machines behind it (probably behind a Network Address Translator).
    This information can be gathered for every user that hits the web site -- if it is determined that they originate in London, they can automatically direct you to a London version of the iTunes site regardless of what you may configure as your location.
    IP addresses are managed at a high level by registrars around the world - there are many, ARIN in the US, RIPE in Europe, APNIC in Asia Pacific, etc. Generally speaking, Internet Providers are only supposed to allocate addresses out of ranges in the region they are currently sitting in. This becomes difficult when, for example, you are a provider which gives customers internet access by way of satellite. You may know that a single satellite can provide access for a large region - sometimes many countries simultaneously -- The question then becomes what IP allocations do you give. This is why you can not completely rely on information located at the registrar and companies such as Quova have been able to corner the market with Geolocation data. They collect information in many ways -- in addition to the registrars they also have analysts who continuously contribute to the information to make it more accurate. The database can be updated several times a month based on this new information.
    Hope I've been able to help.

  • Selecting  only a part of a song

    I have a recording, on CD, of a vocal recital in which 2 of my kids participated. Unfortunately, it was recorded as one long track instead of individual songs. Is there a way to extract just the parts that I would like to have in my iTunes library? Or maybe this is a Garage Band question.

    If you click Get Info on your track you can go to Options and choose when the track should start and stop playing (ie. the part with your children singing). You can then choose Advanced from the iTunes menu and convert your selection to mp3/AAC. By doing this you will create another track with just the part you want to hear. You can repeat the process if there are other songs you want, you just need to know the start and end times in your original, hour-long track. Hope this helps in some way.
