Simultaneous HDMI and speaker playback

Hello!
While you may think this is the USUAL problem, it is not. I know how to enable Stereo Mix, and it is enabled. I know how to set Stereo Mix as a recording device, and to have the "Listen" tab show the HDMI.
I know all of this, because this is the setup that worked perfectly until I turned on my computer today.
Suddenly, I have visible output on the Stereo Mix channel, and "testing" the HDMI yields sound, but there is no functioning bridge between the two. I can NOT, under any setting, get the Stereo Mix to output to the HDMI despite this workaround working
for the last several months.
I don't know what to do and I've run out of patience reading outdated solutions. I'm on Windows 8.1 using Realtek drivers.

Hi Matt,
You may roll back the related driver through Device Manager:
1. Open Device Manager by Win +X, then select Device Manager;
2. Double-click the category containing your device driver, and then double-click the name of the device that you want to restore to a previous driver version.
3. Click the Driver tab, and then click Roll Back Driver.
If you are logged on as a standard user, the button will be dimmed, which means it's unavailable. You must be logged on as an administrator to roll back a driver.
Note: If there's no previous version of the driver installed for the selected device, the
Roll Back Driver button will be unavailable even if you are logged on as an administrator.

  • Audio sync problem - simultaneous HDMI and analog output

I'm currently running my audio out through my Geforce 460 via HDMI to my A/V receiver. I have a simultaneous stereo analog output running through my ASUS Xonar D2, using Pulseaudio & Amarok as the player (VLC-gstreamer backend).
I use the HDMI and A/V receiver to power my main stereo in my living room, but on occasion when I want music around the house, I use the analog line out to send audio to an FM transmitter.
The problem is, I'm running into audio sync problems. The audio starts out synchronised (at least to the naked ear) but within 20-30 seconds it is noticeably out of sync, with the analog audio (form my FM radio) running around a half second ahead of the HDMI output (my main speakers).
So - where to begin finding where the sync problem is? The receiver? Conversions between 44Khz and 48Khz?
Any help much appreciated - google-foo hasn't turned up anything obvious so far.

Yeah - that was my thought - a very difficult, and probably insoluble problem as it stands. I can't just mute one of the devices as that would defeat the purpose of having multi-room music! Fortunately it's not too noticeable usually, as you can't usually hear the main stereo and the FM radios at the same time, unless you're standing in the right part of the house
The analog splitter cable not really a goer, since running clean, crisp multi-channel HDMI with pass through when needed is the essential goal of the HTPC. So unless I was to switch inputs and or unplug cables...
What I will end out doing, in the absence of a software solution, is hooking the FM transmitter directly to my receiver. I was going to just use the headphone-out jack of the receiver to feed audio to the FM transmitter, but the stoopid receiver can't output audio to external speakers at the same time as the headphone is plugged. To overcome this, I'll probably run a headphone amp off the receiver's RCA outputs, into the FM transmitter. • 24" TV with VGA and HDMI and speaker connection?

Bought a 24" LED TV that has VGA input.   Two to three inches to wide for a monitor, but got this one because of price and the VGA input.  It also has a HDMI input.  Previously when doing a search for TV with PC input the results would bring up listings that did not have PC input listed in the specifications.  So much for search engines.
Would I be better off using HDMI input instead?
Wide screen is nice but not so much for monitor use.  Everything is stretched horizontally on monitor.  Have not yet found a setting to make this wide screen not be so wide for PC usage.
The manual shows, a picture, to connect PC speakers to monitor and another cable from PC to TV.  Do not even know what size the jacks should be for cable.  What cable should I be looking for?
Any other advice and experiences would be appreciated.

    Hi,
LED TVs are digital and the best video display is going to be using a digital signal.
The techncial specifications for the TV should inform you what digital resolutions that the TV will accept.

No. You can only use one sound output:
Why can't I select HDMI audio on my Mac mini?
If you connect an HDMI display or television to a Mac mini (Mid 2010 or later), you might not be able to select the HDMI audio device (in System Preferences > Sound > Output). This can happen if you also have headphones plugged in to the computer. Unplug the headphones to be able to select HDMI audio.

  • Simultaneous computation and playback

    Hey everyone,
I am attempting to simultaneously compute and playback audio
at the same time, but I am not sure how to approach this for my
application. I am computing the audio chunks dynamically by
allowing for real time manipulation of the audio. I have previously
performed all the computation before playing and only updated after
each loop of the approx. 5 sec audio loop. The problem I run into
is that I would like to compute in the background while playing the
audio to the user. Right now I get the obvious periodic spots of
noise in between each section of audio playing because it is taking
time away to compute the next chunk of audio. Can anyone provide
any help/advice or guide me to an example? I took a look at Doom 1
and I noticed the audio can be a bit choppy there also...is that
just what I am left with our can the audio be computed on the fly
(signal passed through a filter basically)? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, but it is a complex setup and not cheap.

  • Can audio output be simultaneous from HDMI and headphone jack?

I need to be able to output both hdmi and analog audio out of the headphone jack at the same time.  Can this be done?  Currently, it makes me choose one or the other and won't let me choose both.

As is no. There are some audio rerouting apps out there that could perhaps help, but I am not versed in using them.
Look into AU Lab and JackOSX.

  • Use sound output hdmi and bluetooth at the same time?

    Hi
Im using a Mac mini and its connected to my magnifier and then to my TV.
I just bought a new speaker that I placed in my kitchen. I would like to play the same music in the livingroom and in the kitchen at the same time, is it possible?
My speaker got bluetooth and AUX.
I tried using midi but it doesn't work, is it because of the hdmi?

Regarding the HDMI and Optical, yes they are both active, I have HDMI to TV and OA to soundbar, both work simultaneously and stand alone too.

  • Simultaneous digital and analog with pulseaudio [solved]

Goal: have pulse audio output audio over HDMI and through line-out.
I found this thread which details two potential solutions to this problem.  The more complex one isn't appealing to me, but the simplistic one quoted below is... but I can't seem to get it to work.
    doorknob60 wrote:
Or easier solution this should work: open paprefs -> Simultaneous Output tab -> Check the box -> Switch to the virtual device in gnome's settings or pavucontrol
That's what I do to simultaneously output to my speakers and to HDMI, so I'd assume it would work for you too, even though you seem to have already figured it out.
Is anyone successfully doing it?  My problem is that within pavucontrol>playback I cannot seem to select both the analog and hdmi sources.  For example, I have mplayer playing a movie (should be HDMI) and mpd playing music (should be analog).  My only two options under pavucontrol>playback are:
    *Internal Audio Analog Stereo
*Simultaneous output to Internal Audio Analog Stereo
I have no option for HDMI.

Got it!  The key was understanding that whatever is selected in the GUI is the default device.  I therefore selected HDMI as the device and added the following to
    /etc/pulse/default.pa
    ### Load analog device
    load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:0,0
    load-module module-combine-sink sink_name=combined
    set-default-sink combined
After a restart of pulseaudio, I simply went into pavucontrol and defined which program would use which device.  I'll update the wiki with these when I have some time.  Thanks to doorknob60 for his original post.

  • Qosimo X505 HDMI vs Speaker output.

My Qosmio X505 HDMI outputs to a big old 50" plasma just beautifully, but, when connected it shuts down my speaker out.. Why? All the check boxes, settings and properties are useless. I need my speaker output... for sound .....The HDTV sound sucks and I'm using it to do audio and video editing. I can't even use my headphones. Know I know you'll say that the digital signal is more important, and uses more resources...  I'm guessing there is nothing I can do about it... Sound Blaster had one card ... all formats always worked. Everything these days is Integrated right? So  the HDMI  and analogue audio outputs should just work. Sorry to rant. 1st post... 1st big screen.  Thanx in advance

When you're connect to the TV, right-click on the speaker icon in the notification area near the clock and select "Playback devices." You should see a list of devices. Right-click on one and ensure "Show Disabled Devices and "Show Disconnected Devices" are checked so you can see everything. To change devices, right-click on a different on and select "Set as Default Device" and "Set as Default Communication Device." You'll likely have a few. On the laptop I'm currently using, I have four - "Speakers" (my internal speakers), "Headphones" (the headphone port on the laptop), "Digital Audio (HDMI)" (my HDMI sound), and another "Speakers" (the headphone jack on my port replicator I'd assume, but I've never used it).

  • Simultaneously Play and Record.

    Hi
I'm working on a application where I need simultaneously Play and Record.
I followed the code of 'SpeakHere'. I got some success also. It is playing and recording simultaneously, but the problem is it plays audio through headphone speaker while recording. I wanted it to play through external speaker.
    thanks.

That is, literally, all the code I have behind my "Enable Speaker" button. Are you sure you've set the Audio Session's category beforehand, and enabled it?
I see you're using the SpeakHere sample code. It does take care of setting up the audio session and enabling it. But it uses the "Media Playback" category of the audio session, rather than the "Play and Record" category.
Look for all the places in SpeakHere where they set the audio session's category (for playback) and change it to the "Play and Record" category. The property I mentioned above only takes effect in this category.
Good luck! If you're still having trouble, a chunk of code or some NSLog output might be helpful.

  • [CLOSED] sound over hdmi and optical

Ok I know sound of hdmi is a pain for everyone but I've have been all over the wiki and Google and have yet to get mine working! The weird thing is... sound works in XBMC. I got movies with 5.1 sound and 2.0 sound to work as well as music and everything else (except sound effects on menu selections but i can live with them) by setting the audio device to Optical/Coax, speaker config to 5.1, enabling DD AC3 capable and setting both audio ouput device and passthrough output device both to hdmi. However it ONLY works in XBMC. I'm trying to get some emulators working and it doesn't work in them. it doesn't work in an lxde environment either or when I run:
    speaker-test -c 6
If I can just get sound working over hdmi I would be happy, If I can get it to work over hdmi and the optical out both that would be even better (although I have a feeling that'll just make things harder).

I've been all over the alsa page of the wiki. When I tried the settings under https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Al … DIF_Output they were already correct.
To anyone who's bothered to read all this ( I sorry it's so long I'm just trying to be thorough) Thank you!
If anyone has any clue what I can try to fix this I would be forever grateful.
Edit: Well it looks like all that messing around I did last night trying to fix things only made it worse. Now the sound in XBMC doesn't work either.

    Hi!
I spent the day asking friend google, browsing the arch wiki, ubuntu wiki and xbmc wiki.
Lastly, I made it work. I have to admit that I don't know why and don't actually understand a thing of what I did, it was trial and error. However, here is what I did:
    installed alsa-oss (probably irrelevant)
set the audio output settings in xbmc to "Audio output"="Optical/Coax", "Audio output device"="Defaults" and "Passthrough output device"="hdmi".
used the following as my .asoundrc
    pcm.dmixer {
    type dmix
    slave {
    pcm "hw:0,3"
    rate 44100
    pcm.!default {

  • Dual Audio Outs? / HDMI and RCA Analog at the same time?

I am trying to figure out if the Apple TV supports dual audio output. My Onkyo receiver supports dual-room/dual-source audio (powered and line-level stereo audio output for 2nd room). The problem is it can only accept an analog source for the second room.
I know that HDMI takes precedence over component video connections if both are connected.
Will the ATV send audio signal out of the HDMI and RCA Analog jacks at the same time so I can enjoy streaming music is two rooms simultaneously?
