Simultaneous Logins; Not Working; Intel & PPC

So, one of my schools is a mixed 10.4 environment with PPC and Intel iMacs. Everything, including the G4 server is sitting at 10.4.7.
I do not have mobile accounts and I don't have fast user switching turned on. And of course, "Simultaneous Logins" is turned off for every account.
My APF clients can go to a PPC machine and login once and then go to an Intel machine and login. They get a slightly different Dock & Safari doesn't play real nice but they're able to login. The same can be said for an AFP client logging into an Intel first and then going to a PPC machine.
Now, they cannot log in on two PPCs or two Intels at any time and so in that respect, the disabling of simultaneous logins is working. However, I've got a lot of people who will be lazy about logging out as they migrate from computer to computer and it's best if this "feature" actually worked cross-processor...
Any suggestions? Anyone? ;0)

Figured it out, I just had to restart the server for the changes to take effect.

  • (Pulse)Audio? not working (Intel HDMI)

    Hi,
    so I installed Arch Linux again and have problems with the sound. I think there is a problem with PulseAudio, as test sounds from settings (cinnamon) and using 'aplay -D plughw:0,7 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav' work. But when I open music/videos in VLC, Firefox or Clementine, there is no sound, nor are system sounds output.
    I tried using headphones and everything works just fine.
    I've been searching for a while now and found nothing that could help me. I can't figure out, what's wrong.
    Previously I used an AMD graphics card and had no problems with sound and HDMI. Also I can't remember doing something special when I installed and used Arch back then. Now I use the HD3000 graphics included in my Intel Core i7-2600k. I need HDMI because I use an A/V-receiver.
    Thank you in advance

    There is already a default sink set under ~/.config/pulse, content: "alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.hdmi-surround-extra1". Don't know what to do with that. I thought it was set by pavucontrol and should be right?
    speaker-test -c 2 -t wav -D plug:dmix:"{CARD 0 DEV 7}"
    works (while pulseaudio is killed, right!?) in multiple instances, fuser gives
    $ fuser -v /dev/snd/*
    USER PID ACCESS COMMAND
    /dev/snd/pcmC0D7p: iuno 3431 F...m speaker-test
    iuno 3486 F...m speaker-test
    iuno 3491 F...m speaker-test
    /dev/snd/timer: iuno 3431 f.... speaker-test
    iuno 3486 f.... speaker-test
    iuno 3491 f.... speaker-test
    I see no problem there?
    I don't really know what you mean with the linked post. But I think a summary might be useful, as I really messed up writing in this thread.
    When pulseaudio is killed:
    Like mentioned above, speaker-test works with C0D7
    VLC with Preferences - Audio - Output module set to 'Alsa audio output', Device set to 'HDA Intel PCH, HDMI 0 Audio Output' works
    Clementine with GStreamer Audio Engine - Output plugin set to 'Audio sink (ALSA)' does not work
    While trying with ALSA-only I found this out:
    $ fuser -v /dev/snd/*
    USER PID ACCESS COMMAND
    /dev/snd/controlC0: iuno 652 F.... firefox
    iuno 4167 F.... vlc
    iuno 4259 F.... clementine
    /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: iuno 652 F...m firefox
    iuno 4259 F...m clementine
    /dev/snd/pcmC0D7p: iuno 4167 F...m vlc
    /dev/snd/timer: iuno 652 f.... firefox
    iuno 4259 f.... clementine
    Concluding Clementine and Firefox use the wrong device. I guess c0d0 may be the default device for alsa? But for pulseaudio it shouldn't matter, right?
    Choosing 'HDA Intel PCH, ALC893 Analog Output' as device in VLC results in no sound, obviously, and 'C0D0' in fuser.
    However, trying to play back compressed audio with VLC, alsa-only, everything like above does not work. fuser shows the same (C0D7), vlc shows no error playing back .m4a or .mp3 files but it stays quiet.
    .oga (vorbis) files I found in /usr/share/sounds/freedesktop do work, though. While VLC is playing, I can't run speaker-test (error: -16,Device or resource busy)
    When PulseAudio comes in , some things change, obviously
    I'd like to name two states. State 1 meanns sound is working, state 2 means sound is not working. State 1 is default.
    First of all, no matter what I do, fuser always gives
    $ fuser -v /dev/snd/*
    USER PID ACCESS COMMAND
    /dev/snd/controlC0: iuno 5552 F.... pulseaudio
    /dev/snd/pcmC0D7p: iuno 5552 F...m pulseaudio
    Forcing VLC to use 'Alsa audio output'-module, and 'HDA Intel PCH, HDMI 0 Audio Output' as device results in device or resource busy error.
    Setting device to 'PulseAudio Sound Server' or 'Default ALSA Output (currently PulseAudio Sound Server)' both work. The 'Module' setting in preferences does not matter. I could either choose ALSA or Pulse with the same effect*. Long story short, audio output works, still not with compressed audio files. This means the state switches to state 2, as long as I keep the .wav file running! -> clementine and firefox also could play back sound, vlc can now also play back compressed audio - as long as I keep at least one of them running. When all sound output is paused, I fall back to state 1. Only playing back a .wav file in VLC or (p)aplay could save me back to state 2. I have to start other apps immediately, when in state 1 as pausing playback instantly causes a fallback to state 1. Opening pavucontrol, while in state 2 keeps me in state 2 as long as pavucontrol stays open. I used this as a dirty workaround for the last days.
    State changes are also blocked the other way round. While in state 1, trying to play sound from clementine or opening pavucontrol results as staying in state 1, also when I play a .wav file with vlc.
    Sorry that was much text, but I hope it's clearer now
    *correction: This setting needs a restart of vlc to take effect. When the 'Module' is set to ALSA, pavucontrol lists 'ALSA plug-in [vlc]: ALSA Playback', when set to pulseaudio, the entry is called 'VLC media player: audio stream'. Same for clementine, when I change from ALSA to pulseaudio in the settings. Firefox always uses ALSA. However, it does not have effect on the state-thing. I still need to enter state 2 with the methods mentioned above

  • Login not working after configuration update

    I have a Pavilion g6-2235us running Windows 8 Metro. Yesterday afternoon my screen said "System Configuration/Updates in progress ... do not power off" This morning when I turned on my laptop ... it went to the metro login screen name and when I entered my password ...it said Welcome then went back to the login screen. Tried this a few times with the same results.
    Also, my Admin user name was gone and when I booted to "Recovery" there were no restore points.
    Any ideas as to what happened? If I do a backup to my external HD then reset to defaults .... can I recover my backup files once I'm logged backin?
    Thank for your help!
    Joe

    There are some ways you can recover your password and there are some 3’rd party S/W’s that may work. One way to do it is to follow the link below even though the steps are for Windows 7 it should work in 8 too.
    http://www.howtogeek.com/96630/how-to-reset-your-forgotten-windows-password-the-easy-way/
    And you can also try to do it using a 3’rd party S/W at your own risk it may or may not work but it’s worth a try if your data is really important. This video has all the info abt it.

  • Auto-Login Not Working!

    So, I've figured out that the auto-login doesn't work if I have a password with numbers or symbols. It works just fine if my password has only letters. What gives?

    Nevermind. It just doesn't work. It's worked a couple times when I've tried a couple passwords without numbers or symbols, but now it's not working at all. When I restart, it makes me type in a user name and my password. Very frustrating.

  • User login not working properly iMac 27 3.4 lion

    My user account will not work.  Every time I login with my name it shows me logged in a "Postgresql" and I have no access to my files.  Sometimes I'll leave it overnight and when I come back to it its correct and everything's in place.  Whats going on?

    I'd recommend first restarting in Safe Mode, this will reset some caches. It's possible one became corrupt somehow. If that doesn't work then use Changing or resetting an account password to reset it.

  • [solved] Start X at Login not working for me

    I'm stripping down my system and decided to get rid of my login manager (slim) and just make the system boot straight into the GUI on boot-up. I followed directions found at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/St … sh_profile , but it's not working on this system. I just get dumped at a command prompt login when I reboot the system and, after having logged in, no X gets started. The system just sits there awaiting input at the prompt. If I enter startx, the GUI starts. But it's not starting at login as I'd like. Actually, it'd be even better if the system automatically logged me in and started X--like we used to do using inittab, once, etc. But that method's obviated now because of systemd, no? My WM is jwm, by the way. Tips on resolving this issue will be appreciated.

    You can still set up automatic login ("like we used to do using inittab, once, etc"): https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Au … al_console
    As for your original question, I assume you are using bash, and you have added the correct information to your ~/.bash_profile? ("but it's not working on this system" is a little vague). This works for me.
    [[ -z $DISPLAY && $XDG_VTNR -eq 1 ]] && exec startx

    Hello everyone!
    Just boght a new Macbook Air everything was flawless. I upgraded to Yosemite and iTunes login is not working. I keep getting the message "The Apple ID you entered couldn´t be found or your password is incorrect. Please Try again".
    I use my apple ID across al devices (iPhone and iPad running iOS 8), use it for iCloud and App Store at the Macbook Air without issues. I have even tried to change the password in order to solve the issue, without luck.
    Any ideas on to What might happen? Ihave tried to contact apple via phone but they bump me because tha kin of support is not available in Guatemala ( where I live)
    Thanks in advance

    Ok, in the end I was able to solve this myself.
    (thanks to tips in other discussions)
    What I did:
    1. Close iTunes
    2. Open folder C:\Users/<user name>/AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/iTunes/Cookies
    3. Delete the only file in that folder
    4. Open folder C:\Users/<user name>/AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/iTunes
    5. Delete the two files (not folders) in that folder
    6. Re-start iTunes and run it as System Adminstrator

  • App store login - not working since Mavericks update

    All,
    Since I updated to Mavericks, I find I am unable to log into the App Store. I get the login pane OK, enter my credentials, then get a spinner that waits... and waits... And never works.
    The Apple ID I am using is good - iTunes likes it fine, and I'm using it to post this. Just the App Store, and only since the Mavericks update; indeed I used the Apple ID to install Mavericks...
    Google tells me I am not the only one seeing this - but the suggested fixes do not seem to work for me. Do we know if a "proper" actual official fix wil be forthcoming?
    Indeed, do Apple acknowledge that some folks are having a problem with this?
    Anyway, in case anyone else stumbles onto this one:
    - There are many threads suggesting that deleting the network plist helps (though did not for me)
    - For some, deleting /Users/ian/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist helps (though not for me...)
    - and so on.
    What "works" for me, albeit as a workaround, is to create a new user account on the machine, and use that to access the App Store - with the same ID etc., but this time it works. At least one time, so far!
    I'd much rather my regular account Just Worked.
    Any of the accounts (myself, wife, etc.) on the machine before the Mavericks upgrade however; they can not log into the App Store any more.
    No Idea why not; presumably "something" changed in the updates and that broke the login in some way; though why iTunes et al appear unaffected is less clear!

    Just an update to note that, after leaving it alone for a while, I tried the app store again today and it now works from my regular account once again.
    Which is nice...
    No idea what changed in the meantime, but at least it appears to be working.

  • LV2012 Web Services w/ NI Auth login not working w/ static files in Firefox 19

    Hi!
    I followed this procedure to password protect my web service and the static files.
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/DF41D5DA8EEB4840862577D90058C208
    When testing it out with my web service it seems to work fine on any web browser.  http://localhost:8080/add/add/1/2 first will present a login.  Once the user is logged in the page refreshes and the results of the operation are shown.  http://localhost:8080/logout works as well.
    I followed the procedure in the FAQ to include an index.html file.
    http://www.ni.com/white-paper/7747/en#toc15
    When I try to access the page (via http:localhost:8080/add/web/index.html) I'm greeted with the National Instruments login screen.  I enter my credentials and in Chrome and Internet Explorer the screen refreshes and I see my html file.  In Firefox it hangs for awhile on the authentication screen and then reloads back to the authenticaiton screen (as if the username and password did not take).
    Attached are my files.  If you want to try and recreate this please follow this procedure:
    * Unzip the attached project to a folder
    * Open the project in LabVIEW 2012
    * Check the properties of the web service to ensure that the build paths are correct
    * Follow the procedure above for setting up NI Auth on your web service and adding the "testpermission2" permission.  Be sure to remove "Everyone" from that "testpermission2" or you will never see a login prompt.
    * Build/Deploy the web service
    * open http://localhost:8080/logout to ensure that you are not currently authenticated
    * open http://localhost:8080/add/add/1/2 and login, observe behavior
    * open http://localhost:8080/add/web/index.html you should still be logged in so you will see the "Hello World!" just fine
    * open http://localhost:8080/logout to log back out
    * open http://localhost:8080/add/web/index.html and see if you are able to login.
    I've tried disabelling my plugins in Firefox and still have this problem.  I'm really scratching my head on how to overcome this other than throwing away NI Auth and use something else.  My web service is going to run off of a static front end driven by javascript and html.  So the access point will be the html file.  I need to have some username and password scheme worked out.  I also need to be able to see what user is currently logged in with my Web Service VIs (does anyone know if that is possible with NI Auth)?
    The other BIG issue I have with NI Auth is that it requires Silverlight.  So much for mobile support, eh?  Anyone know of a good plug-and-play alternative so I don't have to reinvent the wheel?  I guess I could impliment some kind of token system on my web service side.
    In the meantime, getting NI Auth to properly work with Firefox would help.
    Thanks for your input,
    -Nic

    Disclaimer: I in no way mean to bash NI and I have used NI Auth myself in the past
    If you are going to go to the trouble of abstracting NI Auth, I would recommend instead investing your time in your own authentication scheme (or implementing a standard scheme in LV).
    NI Auth is great and works for low security applications where you just don't want people fooling around with your application who shouldn't be.
    However, NI Auth is really not that secure.  If I remember correctly, the username is transmitted in plain text and I don't think the encryption algorithm is that sophisticated.  It is nice that it's already integrated into LV, but there really are very few features at this time.
    If you want something to be really secure, you need to take measures beyond what NI Auth provides and before you go to the work of building abstraction on top of a basic and somewhat shaky protocol, I'd seriously consider implementing a more stable base.

  • Web Auth Type: Customized(downloaded) Redirect URL after login not working.

             5508WLC as anchor controller with WLC1 and WLC2 with WCS. I have 2 public ssids set up to go directly to the internet.
    Everything is working as it should.  I downloaded the web auth bundle from Cisco and  will just use a disclaimer page and then if the user clicks on the accept button they will be redirected to our company web page, and then they can get out to the internet.
    I have edited the aup.html and login.html to say what I want it to.  I have 2 different login.html pages and bundle to a .tar file like the documentation says.  I download it via tftp to the controller and it is successful. The disclaimer page opens up when I connect and it looks as it should.  The problem is I cannot seem to get the accept button to work. It redirects to a web page but it is undefined.
       I must be missing some setting somewhere, but I just can not seem to find it.  Is there any line I need to edit in the login.html files that will redirect the page.    The config on the Web Login Page  Redirect URL after login is http://www.mccg.org which is our home page.
    Any help will be appreciated.  I cannot seem to fine very good documentation, or I am just overlooking something.

  • Login not working

    Hello,
    We have a web app that uses a WCF service and uses Active Directories for authentication. We're have a problem with the login process which only occurs if the user enters the right username but wrong password. If this happens, the application just hangs
    in a state of limbo. It doesn't get through to the service.
    On the application side, we have this:
    public static bool Login(HttpContext context, string userID, string password)
            LoginInfoSend loginInfoSend = new LoginInfoSend()
             UserName = EncryptBase64(userID),
                    WebSession = EncryptBase64(context.Session.SessionID),
                    Password = password
            string token = client.Login(loginInfoSend);
    On the service side, we have this:
    public string Login(LoginInfoSend loginData)
    We can put break points in the service and log messages and these both work when the user enters the correct credential, when the user enters an incorrect username, but not when the user enters the correct user name but wrong password.
    As we are using Active Directories, we figure IIS must be choking between the point when the application makes the call but before the service gets the call. Personally, I'm not even sure why Active Directories cares about what credentials I enter in since,
    as I understand it, it gets the credentials of the user who is currently logged into Windows automatically and uses that. I should be able to send anything into Login(), any list of arguments, just like I do with every other service call in the application,
    and it shouldn't make a difference to IIS. The only reason we're doing it this way is that we want two layers of authentication. We want IIS to authenticate with Active Directories, but we also want to authenticate against the username/password in our database
    (hence the reason we ask for credentials on the login page). But how does IIS know that the LoginInfoSend object contains the user's credentials and that the password is wrong when it is wrong?

    While this is true that some browser (IE) will support signle-sign on to pass your authentication token to IIS webserver when using Windows Auth, this is not the case for all browsers.
    This can be enabled on other industry browsers, but is not always the default behavior.
    See for exemple chrome : https://sysadminspot.com/windows/google-chrome-and-ntlm-auto-logon-using-windows-authentication/
    Now, when using windows auth in the context of an asp.net website, your application has to specify to IIS what principal are allowed trough your application, but it is not in charge of performing authentication of the user. That is a task for your web server
    (IIS).
    Make sure you have specified the correct settings in your web.config file for windows authentication.
    You can refer to this post.
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff647405.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
    If you use two authentication providers (Form based auth + Active directory) , then you may not want to use the IIS authentication module and handle active directory auth via form authentication provider. That way, you perform AD authentication via your
    application and IIS has no awareness of what provider authenticated the principal.

  • Apple ID admin login not working

    I have been unable to login to our site using my Apple ID login page for administrators... If I type my Apple ID and password, iTunes responds with an error saying the store is currently unavailable.
    If I intentionally type in the wrong password, it tells me the password or account don't have access.
    So it seems the authentication part of it is working just fine, but it will not load up the administrative functions. Has anyone else noticed this issue in the last week or so?
    neil

    Greg,
    My heart goes out to you.
    If it makes any difference, one of the beauties of the Shib-inspired Apple credentialling system is that it is password-less. So long as you have your Administrator credential, you can reassert control. The only thing you might want to ask Duncan to do for you is reset your shared secret. So long as you have an admin cred and a shared secret, -you- are in charge. If your ex-employee knows your shared secret (likely, seeing as he/she was your iTunes U admin), then that person has the power to alter your site, with or without Apple IDs.
    If there is any way I can help you, please don't hesitate to ask. Classes have already started here, so the pressure is off me a bit.

  • Login not working. Keeps saying I have an invalid password.

    I'm trying to get my login/password page working and it currently isn't. Even though I set it up correctly from Gunter's tutorial and I know my L/P is correct. I even went ahead and hit the forgot password page, got a new password and that didn't work either! What's going on here?

    Are you using HTTPS? If not, then try that. The ADDT is abysmally documented in regard to the usage of encryption on the login architecture, but it does nonetheless support it.
    Have you checked your cookies before and after logon? The problem that makes me note this is that cookies are not shared between sites (are not supposed to be) and HTTP versus HTTPS access to the same site should also have their cookies segregated.
    The PHP error messages simply notes that once the web server has sent text to a client that it can no longer issue a redirect. It refers to both the external file and line number so you know what code to look at.
