Simultaneous Thumb drive or CD I/O   charging   projector with new MacBook?

How does one give a presentation with the new MacBook needing to connect to a projector, while reading data from a thumb drive or external disk/CD, while needing to charge the MacBook?  Is there a multi - port type adapter to allow for all these connections simultaneously using what appears to be the only way to connect to the new MacBook?

Hello KrisKlix,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
There are a couple of adapters to choose from depending on your needs that expand the USB-C port into a multiple port device.  Take a look at the link below to see the adapters.

  • Can i plug an usb drive into a iMac and access it with a Macbook pro?

I have an iMac that is less than 3 months old and my wife now has a two week old Macbook Pro.
    IMac:
    21.5" screen
    3.1 quad core i7
    16 GB Ram
    1 TB Fusion drive
    Macbook Pro:
    13" screen
    3.0 dual core i7
    8 GB ram
    512 GB Flash storage
    Both have Mountain Lion.
    Both are running iOS 6.1.2
I would like to attach an external USB hard drive to the iMac and allow the Macbook Pro to be able to have full access to just the external USB hard drive.  Either it can't be done or I am just not getting the Sharing settings set correctly.  I played around with sharing last night on both machines.  When I would plug in a FAT 32 thumb drive into either machine and find it, I would add it to he shared folder but it would only allow me and "Everyone" to have access.  I could not change "Everyone" to "No Access" because "Everyone" was greyed out or add my wife.  I can access the Macbook Pro as Mark with the iMac but I can only access the iMac from the Macbook Pro as a "Guest".
I am using a Netgear WNR3500L router.  I currently have the USB hard drive connected to the router via the Readyshare USB port but it is formatted as NTFS for Windows shared files.  This router does not recognize HFS+ formatted hard drives in the USB port.   When I move it to the iMac, I will back it up and then reformat it as HFS+.  Since the router is about a year old and working fine, I would buy an Airport Extreme or Time Capsule if that is my only choice.
I don't normally turn off the iMac.
I would not want to allow access to any other device.
Since I am very new at Mac's, I would appreciate any help that any of you can offer me.

    Topher Kessler,
    Thanks for commenting to me.
My thumb drive is formatted as Fat 32 so your first paragraph explains what I am seeing.
You are correct that my existing router does not support HFS+.  It is visible from my MAC and some file are read only.
The drive that I will be wanting to attach to the iMac would be formatted as HFS+ so it would not be accessible from my router.
So, if I setup sharing (If it is possible) and thern plugged in a USB 3.0 hard drive into my iMac, would it be accessible to my Macbook Pro?  If it would not be, it looks like an Airport Extreme or a Time Capsule are my only options?
I see that a Netgear 4500 is Time Machine compatible.  Any idea what that means?  When I read pages 80 through 82, it appears to me that you format your drive to HFS+ and then eventually plug it into the router usb.

  • Using Time Machine Backup Drive with NEW Macbook Pro

I just got a new Macbook Pro. I migrated from my old MacBook Pro. Now I want to use my Time Machine Disk with this new machine.
When I connect the external drive, and select back up now, it says there is not enough space (due to the fact this is a new machine and it wants to backup the entire thing)
Also, when I go into the TimeMachine, it doesn't show me anything past today. . . all of my backups are not displayed over the past year. . .
How do I make it so that the external drive displays all my old backups. . . ??
    Thank you for your help.

Turn off TM or set the backup drive to null. Rename your computer in Sharing preferences to the same computer name of your old computer. Turn TM back on and reselect the backup drive. TM will behave as you expect. Of course if the file dates on the new machine are all changed since the migration, then TM will correctly assume that they require backing up. You will then find that there will not be sufficient space on the drive for the new backups. If this occurs then you should simply erase the backup drive and start your TM backup anew.

  • WD External Hard drive not working with new Macbook Pro

I have recently upgraded to a new Macbook Pro and when connecting a WD 1 TB Passport external hard drive, it doesn't appear on the MBP, but when I connect it to my old Macbook running 10.5.8, it appears normally. Is this a problem with formatting or an issue because it is USB 2.0...
Any help appreciated as I have a lot of data on the hard drive and would like to be able to use it with my new MBP.

I'm on Lion, with similar issues with two WD external HD. But what I found fixed the problem was to:
    1. go to the manufacturer's website (in this case Western Digital),
    2. locate my external HD, download the download.
For instance, I downloaded the WD Drive Utilities for Mac (for My Passport for Mac USB 3.0):
    http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=219&sid=157&lang=en
    Install the downloaded app.
    3. Plug in external (this part, I think is important) directly into your tower or laptop (as opposed to through a USB multi-plug extender). Possibly this is because you access more power?
[I'm trying to remember in which order everything happened. But I think at this point the external hard drive mounted]
    4. Install the software that is found on the external HD (in my case, it was a brand new device, so that had never been installed).
    5. Run "WD Drive Utilities" and run diagnostics.
    6. Test to see if it holds. Unmount the External HD. Unplug. Replug in and see if it mounts.
Note: I have not yet tested to see if plugging in the external somewhere other than directly into the tower also works. But I think the main problem is getting it to mount the first time and installing the software. That's what I think.

  • Reformating external hard drive for use with new MacBook Pro

I'm trying to figure out how to use an existing external hard drive (formatted for a Powermac G4) with my new MacBook Pro. I understand that the file formats are different and that I need to erase the hard drive and reformat it with a GUID partition, but how does one do that?
I've already erased the drive with disk utility (using the old Powermac) and connected it to my MacBook with the hope that it would be recognized. No dice, alas. It doesn't mount at all.
Any suggestions on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My external harddrives all work just fine with the MacBook Pro. You shouldn't have to reformat anything. I think if you did then it would not be backwards compatable with the older systems. Stick it back in your old computer and try to mount it again, repair permissions shutdown your macbook pro and connect the external drive then reboot

  • Charging slow with new iphone charger?

Is anyone else finding the new cute little charger supplied with the 3gs very slow at charging? I would say its only about the same as charging with the sync cable whereas the 3g charger was about twice as fast.

This is actually starting to bug me now! I ran my iphone down to about 30% today and then plugged it into my pc to charge/sync...3 hours later and its only upto 88%!!. With the new plug/charger not being any faster I'm starting to think the 3gs itself is a very slow charger. Isn't anyone else noticing how much longer it takes to charge a 3gs over a 3g?

  • TS1367 My charger connects with my macbook with a very faint green light (not the normal orange light) and can maintain the computer turned on but does not charge the battery.

My charger connects with my computer with a very faint green light (not the normal orange light) and can maintain the computer turned on but does not charge the battery. The power source to keep it on is the power adapter and that it's "Not charging" on the battery settings. And my charger seems to charge other computers fine.
The part of my mac where the adapter (L-shaped, magnetic) attaches is a bit damaged - a small piece of the white case/body around the part where the adapter attaches is broken off, but that's just an outer damage.
I don't know what's wrong with my computer, and if anyone has had a similar experience or knows what's going on, it'd be tremendously helpful!
    Thank you!!

    Hi Christopher,
Doubtful an upgrade would fix a hardware issue. If you are thinking of upgarding to Lion, best to do all necessary maintenance first.
Try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • "Battery not Charging" on a new MacBook Pro 15''

The battery of my new MacBook Pro 15'' is not charging when plugged in. The battery is down to 4% and the battery status bar shows "Battery not Charging".

If this is a new MBP and you purchased it from an Apple store, you have a 14 day period in which to exchange it for a new one (or a refund).  If you purchased st from a reseller, their return policies will apply but the MBP should be fixed under the warranty provisions.
    Ciao.

  • What appears to be a battery or charging issue with my MacBook Pro

I'm hoping someone can help me troubleshoot this situation... I have one of the earlier models of the MacBook Pro (Silver keyboard) and am having issues with it. It normally sits in my office and is plugged in but I took it on a business trip recently and it started acting oddly. Suddenly it didn't seem to want to hold a charge. When I had it plugged in it showed as "not charging" in the menu bar but was still running properly. It seemed the battery couldn't get past maybe 12% charge. Anyway, once I returned home it wouldn't turn on at all. The light on the mag power adapter is not on but I did see a spark when I plugged it into a socket. The battery button flashes fast for a few seconds when I push it. I'm sort of assuming that it is either the battery or the charger but any thoughts on where to start? If it is the battery shouldn't it still power on when plugged in? I have left it for a full 24 hours "charging" and so far nothing. Any help appreciated!

I'm sure I need one anyway so I'll likely do that regardless... I'm wondering if anyone can confirm that the light on the mag adapter wouldn't be lit up if it's a battery issue so I can rule that out though

  • Driver issue FIXED in Vista / boot camp with new, unibody macbook pro!!

Hay people, I found a fix for the freezing issues with Vista running in Boot camp with the new, unibody Macbook pros. The driver for the 9600M Gt is no good if you install it from the Apple 2.1 version driver disc (Mac osx disc)for some (most) of us.
I needed to go to Nvidia's site and download the one from DECEMBER 08. If you click the "download drivers" tab on the site, scroll past the current driver it wants you to look at (go to the near bottom of page), click the archives, and input your OS version. Also input "Gforce" and "M" series when needed. It will give you a choice of two drivers. DO NOT CHOOSE THE FEB 09 Driver. Thats the BAD driver for most of us. Choose the DECEMBER 08 driver. Download and enjoy. Be sure to roll back the VGA driver (or the current driver) first before you install this. It should work.
I've been through the ringer with this for weeks now and have even tried to take my MBP back to swap for a new one. Apple wont have any of that so I thought I was SOL. Not quite. This DOES work for me with Vista. It also works for Windows & if you have it handy.
By the way, I am posting this for people who HAVE HAD THE FREEZING problems, not for people who haven't. Apparently there are some out there who are running Vista just fine on their unibody MBS's. Most of us are not.
Cheer's-----Seattle, where the evil empire looms dark

This never worked. I sold that machine and got a new 17" unibody. IT, by the way, works just fine. I KNEW it was that **** 15'. It took 30 more seconds to boot up I found out also.

  • Have iTunes music on external drive. How do I access it with new computer?

Hello. On my old laptop (which died) I had my iTunes music and videos stored on an external drive (changed it under Preferences). Now that I have a new computer and installed iTunes, how do I get it to use my external drive with all my music and videos? I changed it in preferences but it doesn't show up.
    Thanks for your help.

I did an add file to library with the entire music library and after all day of processing it is now showing up and did not duplicate the setup. I had changed the save location to the music folder under preferances first. Thanks for the help. I guess it is time to figure out playlists next. Then go buy the iPod.

  • I need to give a full charge to my new macbook air before switch on?

Hi! I bought my macbook air, but I didn't switch on yet.
What I have to do first? Switch on, wait to consume the battery and then fully charge it???
Please somebody knows that? I want to use my computer but I don't want to do something wrong!!!
    thanks!

Your Macbook Air ships with a 50% roughly charge, turn it on and use it,
recharge it at 15 to 20% power.
Dont let your Air shut down from power,  consider 10% the same as 0% and either plug into power or shut down.
Just use your Air and enjoy it.
    1. never "often" drain you battery very low (10% roughly to 15%)
    2. Dont always leave your Air on charge / powered via the charging block.

  • Will 20D battery charger work with new "BP511A 2200 mAH batery?

Is my charger not working?  Can I use 2200 mAh batteries with EOS 20D camera?  If it wlll work, where should I get a new charger?

Yes, it will work fine in the charger and in the camera. I've got a mix of the original BP511s and BP511As that I've used in 10D, 30D and 50D... no problems.
