Simultaneous wireless ad hoc and infrastructure mode

Hi
When I set up an ad-hoc wireless connection on my Macbook Air, this has the effect of disconnecting from my wifi connection to my router. Is it possible to set this up in a way where I can have both an ad-hoc connection AND remain connected via the wireless router at the same time? I thought that the wireless networking on the Macbook was dual-band and would therefore allow this, or have I mis-understood?
Thanks in advance.
Phil.

Hi
I use an eye-fi card that wirelessly transfers photos from my digital camera to my Macbook. When I'm at home, it does this over the wireless network. However, when I am not at home (e.g. on holiday and staying in a hotel) I will use an adhoc / direct wifi method of transfer. If I can also connect to the hotel wifi for web access, the eye-fi software will enable me to geotag the photos and also upload a backup copy of the photos online automatically. It's not a major issue if I can't do this, but just a nice to have if I can do so easily.
Thanks,
Phil.

  • Can synced lights, a wireless shutter remote and live mode work at the same time on the Canon600D?

I have a pair of synced lights connected through the hot shoe, and I'd like to use live mode and a wireless shutter remote to take self portraits from a distance... is this possible with the Canon600D? (Rebel T3i)
I'm finding that turning on live mode stops the lights from flashing, and even with it off, the lights won't flash if I use the remote to take the photo.
    Help would be very appreciated!

Did a quick search, I don't think the 600D has the 'silent shutter' option.
But I might be wrong, it might only be manual only flashes that don't fire in Live View, TTL flashes (any brand) may work.  Maybe it has something to do with the mirror being locked up.   Regardless, a wireless trigger will behave the same as a non-TTL flash, so it's not going to work with off camera flash.
However, I think that Magic Lantern has a fix for it.  Might look into that if it's something you need.  That said, I've taken hundreds, probably thousands of photos of myself without Live View.  Just tether to a laptop/tablet and you can see the results after you take the shot; adjust accordingly.

  • IPhone OS3 and Wireless Ad-Hoc Networking (Vista)

I used to use my laptop (running Vista) to create a Wireless ad-hoc network. I then used to connect to this wireless ad-hoc network using my iPhone nd surf the net that way...
Now after upgrading to OS 3 i do the same thing... but when i connect to the wireless netwrok with the iPhone... it disconnects my laptop computer from the internet... but the iphone still manages to get internet perfectly.
Anyone having this problem... or better yet know how to fix it?
    Cheers

I was kinda figuring that, that was the impression I've been getting after hours and hours of research. What I did find was that you can use Applescript to create an ad-hoc network, and that Applescript can be run from a Java program. Once that network is established, would it be feasible for Java to it to send packets to another machine?

  • Router NME IPS - use promiscuous and inline mode simultaneous

    Hi all,
we are using the IPS module NME-IPS-K9 on a Cisco 2951 router. We like to use the IPS in promiscuous and inline mode simultaneous. For example traffic from a client to a server should pass through the IPS. But the IPS should only recieve a copy of the VoIP traffic.
In the interface configuration mode the following command is set.
         ids-service-module monitoring promiscuous access-list 101
If I try to set a interface to inline mode I get the following message:
         "Only either Inline or Promiscuous
monitoring is supported on the router at one time.
Please remove Promiscuous monitoring on all interfaces
before configuring Inline monitoring. Only either Inline or Promiscuous
monitoring is supported on the router at one time.
Please remove Promiscuous monitoring on all interfaces
         before configuring Inline monitoring."
Is there any way to use promiscuous and inline monitoring at the same time? Is there a firmware update available which includes this feature? Any other idears?
IOS version of the router: 15.0(1)M4
    IPS version:  7.0(2)E4
    Kind Regards

In promiscuous mode your sensor doesn't affect the traffic but it only listen and analyze it.
In inline mode you direct all your traffic on this network segment you want to protect to IPS and it analyze it and block some actions according to your settings.
It is the main difference. Which mode to prefer must be your decision.

  • Is there a restriction on how many simultaneous wireless iPads can watch movies from one iTunes account or AppleTV generation 2 or later?

Is there a restriction on how many simultaneous wireless iPads can watch movies from one iTunes account or AppleTV generation 2 or later?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I find it hard to believe that this information isn't clearly available somewhere, but it isn't and I don't think I've seen anyone here who is 100% sure. However, I believe you can have up to 10 associated devices, which include authorised computers (of which you can have up to 5), I suspect the Apple TV might become a temporary associated device while it's in use, but I'm not entirely sure myself.

  • My iPhone 3gs backed up to the iCloud just fine, but my new iPhone 5 gives me an error and says to turn off airplane mode or use wi-fi.  It is connected to my wi-fi and airplane mode is off.  It can see the internet just fine.  What gives?

I backed up my iPhone 3GS to iCloud.  Activated my iPhone 5 and restored it from iCloud.  But iPhone 5 will not backup to iCloud, only to my MacBook.  When I try to turn it on on the phone it gives me an error that I must turn on Wi-Fi or turn off Airplane mode.  Wi-Fi is on an the phone is talking to the internet just fine and airplane mode is off, but I still get the error. Is this a known problem?

You mean take the cover off of the iPhone, to look inside?  I'd recommend against it.  Even with warranty expired, you might qualify for an out-of-warranty service, which for 3GS is $149.
Other than that, any repair/service options are going to cost money.  You might want to see if a wireless carrier will let you get a new contract & phone.
Out of curiousity, you're just using at as, basically, an iPod Touch, if there's no cell provider?  Did I understand that correctly?

  • Shared and Dedicated Mode in Oracle 8i

Can any one describe what is basic difference when we install Oracle8i in dedicated and Shared modes. I have to create Oracle8i Database for not more 150 users. Actually less then 20 users might be accessing database but in future it can go up to maximum 100.

WIthout understanding your application and hardware in some detail, it is impossible to say which mode is better-- and that's without accounting for a mixed-mode setup where some connections are shared and some are dedicated.
If there are going to be 20 simultaneous connections, dedicated server is almost always preferred. If you start to get up to 100 simultaneous connections, depending on your hardware, it may become appropriate to use shared server. If you have a high-end multi-CPU machine, it will easily handle 100 connections. If you have a low-end single-processor Windows server, you might have problems with dedicated server.
OLTP systems tend to be more amenable to shared server than DSS systems, because sessions spend a lot of time idle in the former type of application.

  • Wireless ad hoc routing protocols

I have an application that uses wireless ad hoc routing protocols (node-to-node communication).  Has anyone developed any application that implements wireless ad hoc networking protocols, such as route discovery, route maintenance etc. using LabView?  If so, I'd appreciate if you could provide more insight on your application.
    Thank you in advance.

I've done something like that in the past, but LV was not the interface to the network.
Basically, LV was used to control parameters within an embedded system (running Linux-Embedded) and sending commands over serial and / or Ethernet ports.  The system was comprised of multiple boards, each running an OS with 3 layers of communication, some of which were serial, most over Ethernet.
However, the firmware took care of discovering and setting up the network.  LV simply quieried the system to find out what it had to deal with (how many boards, what type, etc), then it would quiery the application to find out if the expected networks were esblished and to allow permissions over the network.
Are you trying to achieve something similar or are you trying to implement (setup) the network directly using LV?

  • Wireless strength weaker in clamshell mode- any way to remedy?

Why is my wireless connection (via Time Capsule) much weaker when my MacBookPro is in clamshell mode? Is there a way to strengthen this other than opening the notebook? We already have an Airport Express very close to strengthen the signal. When opened fully, there is full wireless strength but in clamshell mode, it drops to 1-2 bars/rings and is noticeably slower to do anything online. Thanks for your tips, folks!

If the MBP is close to the AirPort, then connect the two using an ethernet cable (about $20 from your local computer store). It will be both faster and more reliable than any wireless connection

  • AT&T UVerse, Time Capsule, and Bridge Mode

I know that this topic has been touched on, but I've yet to find a solution to the problem I'm having with my Time Capsule. I am an AT&T Uverse subscriber which means I have their big residential gateway (RG) modem/router/VoIP/TV box in my house. I also have a 1st gen Time Capsule (TC) and an 8-port gigabit switch to feed ethernet to the wall jacks throughout my house.
What I'm trying to setup is to have the RG provide 802.11g, the TC provide 802.11n, for the TC to feed the gigabit switch to bring 1GB ethernet to all of my wall jacks, and for everything on g, n, and ethernet to be able to see each other. I originally was using the TC alone with DMZ+, but now that I actually have some wireless-n devices, I'd really like to separate the two networks (I have a wireless-g printer and a macbook that will slow it all down).
I tried putting the TC in Bridge mode, made an n-network and a g-network, and turned off DMZ+. The result was that RG connected devices could see into the TC connected devices and had Internet access, TC connected devices could not see out past the TC or get Internet access, except Bonjour devices were able to see each other (I have a wired Mac Mini on the TC, which could see the MacBook even when connected to the RG by wireless-g).
Basically, I'm trying to set up the RG as my router with 802.11g, and have the TC as a switch providing GB ethernet and 802.11n. Is this possible?
If I had the 2nd gen TC then none of this would be necessary since it has the dual radios, but I'm trying to make due with what I"ve got!
Thanks in advance for any help.

As I understand home routers/switches, even though the RG is only 100Mb ethernet, devices on the Gb switch will communicate with each other at GB speeds as managed by the switch.
You are correct. I interpreted your statement to mean that you wanted Gigabit throughout the network. Devices connected to the TC would indeed have the benefit of Gigabit available.
I have another idea. You are configuring what is known as a "roaming" wireless network. The requirements here are that the TC be in "bridge mode" (It is) and that you use the exact same wireless network name (you probably are), security and password.
Can you check the wireless security settings on the Uverse router? ATT may use different terminology. For example, you might have WPA2 Personal selected as security on the TC, but maybe something like WPA-PSK (TKIP) on the Uverse. If the security settings on both routers do not match exactly, you really have two distinct networks and they will not function as one.
That might explain why you see some devices from one router and but not the other. What security settings do you have on both routers?

  • Difference between Simple maintanence and Export mode and Organisation plan

    Hi all,
Can any one please explain the difference between Simple maintanence and Export mode and organisational plan in SAP easy access.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Naga

Expert Mode Infotype Maintenance: This interfaces allows you to edit individually selected objects in OM (Org Units, Positions, Jobs) via infotypes.
Expert Mode: Simple Maintenance Interface (PPOM_OLD) is used to quickly create a new Organizational Plan. As a user, you can pretty much maintain large volumes of data very easily ( i.e create several objects simultaneously), without having to go through the more "Performance Intensive" Org and Staffing interface.
In accessing the Simple Maintenance interface to create your org structure, the initial screen requires you to specify which evaluation path you want to create your org structure.
Organizational Plan: This is what provides you with a complete picture of an enterprise's environment. It comprises elements (objects like Org Units, Positions, Jobs etc) which are used as building blocks for creating an Organizational structure.
Need more information? Let me know.

  • Difference between maximum concurrency and batch mode in JDBC

    Hi All,
Could som one tell me the difference between maximum concurrency and batch mode in receiver JDBC adapter?
    Regards,
    XIer

    Hi,
The Max Concurrancy and Batch mode are used for performance tunning for JDBC adapter.
Max Concurrancy is possible upto 5 only. so even if you will be taking up 10 it will by-default take 5.
The number of records being processed depend on the size of each record. for e.g Per minit XI Is Processing 50 Records,It will Take lot of time to process all Records.
So if you set Max concurrancy as 5 then at time 5 messages will be processed simultaneously.
In Batch mode it will, collect the multiple SQL statements that will be created for records to be processed and processed at a time. It will  improve performance considerably.
But Batch Mode is possible with only INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE etc.
The Stored procedures can be executed with max concurrency
Thus it completely depends that on the no of records to be processed at a time and volume of Mesasges.
    Thanks
    Swarup
