Since Adobe Reader IX updated, it is slow to open pdf's

How can I fix it?

Things you can try with Reader XI to improve performance
put a shortcut to Reader_sl.exe into your startup list
when you have a document open in Reader, click once on the Tools button in the toolbar, and the Tools sidebar should be gone permanently
in Reader | Edit | Preferences, try if the following settings improve the performance
General: uncheck 'Show me messages when I launch Reader'
General: check 'Dont show messages while viewing a document'
Security (Enhanced): uncheck 'enable Protected Mode at startup'
Security (Enhanced): set 'Protected View' off
P.S. this is a public forum; don't post telephone numbers, email address, etc. (email signature!).

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.10 will intermittently not open PDF files

On some user's computers Adobe Reader 11.0.10 will intermittently not open a PDF file. It will open fine 5 times in a row then maybe the 6th time it won't open. When it opens fine two AcroRd32.exe process start, when it does not open a single AcroRd32.exe process starts and will not go away unless you kill the process. The problem seems to go away if I turn off "Enable Protected Mode at startup" but I do not want to leave this disable.
    Thanks!!

I don't have any inside information, but my experience over the last two years or so is that "Protected Mode" causes a plethora of different problems for (some) Windows users.  Disabling Protected Mode makes most of these problems disappear.
Occasionally Adobe staff recommends to re-enable Protected Mode, and on a few occasions this actually works.
The most baffling thing is that not all users experience any problems with Protected Mode; I myself have Protected Mode enabled on all Windows computers around me.

  • Adobe 11.0 update is not allowing to open PDF.

I was able to open any of my pdf documents before this update. Since the update, I have not been allowed to open any of my existing files. My OS is Windows 7. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Prior to this update, I had no problem opening any pdf. In order for me to view, I am having to convert to word which in some respect is not that feesible. Please help!

Files are saved on my computer as PDF. All I do is click on the file to open it and the above image shows. If I click okay, nothing happens. It still will pop up this msg anytime I attempt to open any pdf file.
This started happening after the recent update only.
    Thanks.

  • Adobe Reader X (10.0.1.434)cannot open pdf:s

We have problem to open some pdfs after upgrade , here is one example http://www.forsakringskassan.se/privatpers/blanketter_och_intyg/ladda_ner_blanketter
    nr 9210
the problem is cryptocme2.dll in the reader catalog
we have earlier another cryptocme2.dll in c:\program\ca\sc\etpki\lib
we can see in process monitor log ,reader use the own cryptocme2.dll first then try to open the other cryptocme2.dll
    and ReaderX crach and close
How can we force AdobeReaderX to only use his own cryptocme2.dll ?
we have 10000 clients with this problem
we can not remove or rename cryptocme2.dll in c:\program\ca\sc\etpki\lib

Thanks you Xiral for your reply,
In my case the senerio is little different the article is discussing about the case when user is closing the intance of Adobe reader. but in my case when ever I start the application (i.e. AdobeReader.exe) 2 process instances of "AcroRd32.exe" get started (Which can we viewed using Windows Task Manager).
Beside that this is very consistent what I have observed is that every time I launch the application (By double clicking on Adobe Reader exe or by its associated file). Moreover I have checked the behavior on different machines as always (on Windows 7 and Windows XP OS), the result for all machines are same.
To elaborate the senerio let me guide step by step as follows:
    1. Open "Windows Task Manager".
    2. Observe that there is "0" intances of "AcroRd32.exe" in "Processes" tab.
    3. Double click on the desktop shortcut for Adobe Reader 10.1 (or any other shortcut link or .pdf file). to launch single instance of Adobe reader
    4. Open "Windows Task Manager" again.
    5. This time you will note that there are 2 instances of "AcroRd32.exe" processes running on your machine. while only 1 process windows appearing.
Now, the problem I m facing is due to the behavior that why when user is running single instance of the application, there appear 2 processes. In other words, 2 processes of "AcroRd32.exe" for each instance of application.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Maverick.

  • How can I prevent Adobe Reader X from being the default to open .pdf files?

I have Adobe Acrobat Professional 9.0 and will soon be getting V 10.
I want Acrobat to open my .pdf files NOT Reader.
Reader was installed because a certain program required it.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you so much!  Unfortunately for me, it is grayed out.  I will need to get my IT admin person to set it for me.

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.07 Freezes if I open pdf that is digitally signed

recently deployed the latest reader with no issues.  now I notice that if I try to open a pdf that contains digital signaures it freezes.  I can open a regular pdf form and sign it, but once I try to open it again or have someone else open, it freezes up.  Anyone else see this?

    A few questions:
    - Do you have In Product Messaging turned ON or OFF in your preferences?
    - Are the Digital Signatures using CRL or OSCP for validation?
    - Are you using a Digital Rights Management Policy that requires the PDF to query the DRM server to validate the user?
    - Are the Digital Signatures using a Timestamp server as part of the validation scheme?

  • Removing Adobe Reader X Updates

I would like the notification to remove Adobe Reader X Updates to be removed from my computer.  It is quite annoying.  Please be clear and easy since I am not exactly computer literate.  Thank you, in advance

Sorry, your question is not clear.  Can you give us the exact wording (or a screenshot) of that notification?
    What is your operating system?

  • When Firefox last automatically updated, it suggested that Adobe reader needed updating, now, with Adobe Reader 8, I can no longer print from the internet, only to file. Help please.

When Mozilla Firefox last automatically updated, it suggested that Adobe Reader needed updating. After updating to Adobe Reader 8, I can no longer print from the internet, only to a file. I know the printer and its interface must be OK because Word prints normally.

Problem solved, it was my oversight, I had not removed the check from the Print to File box in the print set up.

Ever since I downloaded adobe reader 10, safari won't display web page pdf's but I can paste the URL in to firefox and can see it there. How can I fix this?

    Quit Safari.
    Go to /Library/Internt Plug-Ins.
Move the AdobePDFViewer.plugin to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari.

  • I can sign into Adobe but I cannot sign  into Adobe Reader for updates

I can sign into Adobe but my password is rejected when trying to sign into Adobe reader for updates.

Adobe Reader won't ask you to sign in for updates. Most likely, this is just the normal adminstrator password prompt you get when installing or updating software, and you use your computer's own password.

  • Adobe Reader will not set as default application for .pdf in windows 8.1 pro x64

When I install adobe reader the icon/app changes from windows reader to Pick an app, I choose change and select adobe reader, the icons on my desktop flicker but nothing actually changes.Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default Programs\Set Program Associations, Select adobe reader, Choose defaults for this program, PDF is unticked so I tick it and choose save, go back in and it is unticked again??? Right click on a pdf file, choose open with, choose default program, use this app for all .pdf files is ticked, select adobe...Still nothing changes, stays on pick an app. I uninstall adobe reader then the pdf icon changes to and default opens with windows reader again. Reinstall adobe reader and back to the same thing. ???? I am a power user, build configure computers and subsequent software, started with DOS 6.0, learned unix/linux/networking concepts/networking security/server versions of windows/active directory. The only solution I could think of was to hack the registry which I looked for but could not find. I am running 8.1 pro x64, I just discovered that windows reader (which I cant uninstall) has the same problem when adobe reader is installed. Windows will not allow either one to be set as default while they co-exist.

After an extended session with chat only to be told that since Adobe Reader was free they could not help me :-(... I figured it out myself.
I opened a administrator: command prompt window and typed "regedit"  Through extensive searching and stumbled on this key located at... HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2274202122-2588692262-2244265822-1001_Classes\.pdf\OpenWithProgids  The S-1-5-21...1001... is my current logged on user, your value may differ slightly. Typically the builtin disabled administrator account is 1000 and when you install windows and create a user account "John Doe" it will have administrator priveleges and be auto numbered 1001, every user account created therafter will increase by 1 ie...1002, 1003, 1004 etc. even if you remove (delete) an account and re-create it you wont get the same number, the system will use the next number in sequence. The old one will have been trashed never to be used again. Again here is the key...
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2274202122-2588692262-2244265822-1001_Classes\.pdf\OpenWithProgids I deleted this key under (default) on the right side...
    Name                                                                       Type                                           Data
    (Default)                                                                   REG_SZ                                    (value not set)
AppX86746z2101ayy2ygv3g96e4eqdf8r99j            REG_NONE                              (zero-length binary value)  ---- This is the key to delete!!!
Personally I selected computer on the left side and the went to file/export then chose a file name [01 29 2014 regbackup.reg] and location. Then I selected "OpenWithProgids" and did the same thing,[pdf.reg] this saves a backup of the entire regestry and the key you are about to delete as a safety net. When you are done all you have to do is go to a pdf file, right click and choose open with...Adobe Reader - the box always use this app should already be checked.
I did this and it works yet because improper regestry modification can crash your system I am compelled to warn... Use at your own risk. If you are uncomfortable modifying your registry I would suggest consulting with someone qualified and has resources to do offline registry modifications/restorations which makes it VERY important to do the computer export registry backup.
