Since Firefox 36 Release Port 1935 traffic is blocked. Why?

Our streaming audio service has been using Adobe Flash Player since 2007. With the February 2015 release of Firefox 36 many of our customers (Windows and Mac) are seeing our Flash player hang indefinitely at "Trying connection on port 1935". In somecases reinstalling Adobe Flash Player will fix this; in other cases reinstalling Firefox will fix this; in several cases only allowing incoming connections on port 1935 (new firewall rule) will fix this.
What happened? A lot of our customers use Firefox and suddenly no joy.
Thank you!

OK, this turned out to be a problem with the new, more strict security rules implemented in Firefox 36> and newer: TLS is implemented now. One of our streaming servers had an outdated SSL bundle causing the Adobe Flash Player in Firefox to hang. The problem has nothing to do with port 1935. The problems is that Firefox cannot display an alert identifying the problem, yet FF is preventing the Flash player from connecting to the streaming server because it wants to see the valid SSL bundle.

  • I can allow pop-ups from certain sites in Tools/Settings, why then can I not also block pop-ups from certain sites since Firefox doesn't always manage to block them?

Whenever I visit, for instance, merriam-webster.com an ad from groupon invariably pops up in a new window.
OK, so Firefox does not manage to block it although I have this option checked in Tools/Settings/Content.
But why can I not enter the URL of the groupon ad and manually block it?
I can allow pop-ups from sites of my choice in Tools/Settings/Content, I think I should also be able to block sites?

  • Network Drive Mapping for users who have Port 445 (possibly others) Blocked by their ISP to a Server 2008 system

Nice to see my original posts are still up.  I was hoping that in the ensuing time someone had found a solution.  At least I can now see many other posting the same problems.  :)  Thought I was losing it for a while.
We have 100% proven that the problem (in our case) is from the ISP blocking port 445 (possibly others but 445 for SURE) with the reasoning that it prevents the spread of some Internet "worms".  It also just happens to prevent people who work
from home from being able to map to their network drives at work.
What I was hoping was that eventually someone would comer up with a solution for this short of having to load a server using a different OS from Windows.  The SMB protocol is the one needing port 445 as far as I can tell.  Not all ISP block
port 445 and the laptops that use those ISP's  have no problem.  Unless they travel.  Then it is "hit or miss" as to whether the ISP for the Hotel they stay at blocks it.
I have run multiple tests to prove that this was in FACT the problem.  Even the particular ISP in question which is a very large national ISP company freely admits they do this supposedly to prevent the spread of an unnamed Internet Worm.  It also
happens to prevent Business use of their Internet by Home Subscribers at they cannot map to their Business Servers which also need port 445 to map.
I have used WebDAV successfully to get around this but at a huge loss of speed and performance.  Cloud services all do essentially the same thing and all have pretty much the same loss of speed.
If anyone has come across a method of allowing a drive mapping to be rerouted to any other port, that is the only hope I have short of changing to an alternate OS for the Office Server and even then I cant be sure until I try if it would help.  I read
somewhere about the possibility of routing through a proxy but again, the problem would still be that the requests for mapping are expected on port 445 on the server and they will not get through even to the proxy since the originating ISP is the one blocking
the port from the User's system.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated  I have posted this question now for several years with no one yet providing a working solution.  Hope burns Eternal though :)

Yes, OwnCloud is an option as well as many others.  Even self hosted Cloud services such as the WD MyCloud all work.  The problem is speed.  JungleDisk is the best I have found so far.  I am not sure exactly what they use to allow the
drive mapping but it seems to work faster that anything else I have found.
VPN's don't work.  At least none of them I have tried.   I can connect a VPN with no problem.  But still cannot map a drive over it.   Actually, there are some issues with the VPN as well but these are just a matter of methodology.
Mapping to the FQDN works for some people while others require the public IP.  Some users on some ISP's can map using the FQDN, others have to map to the IP.  That in itself was a bit odd.
I have tried every trick I could find including adding  the IP and/or FQDN to the Windows Hosts file on the server as well as on the client systems.  This actually did help to get the VPN to connect in some cases.  However, it still would
not allow me to map a drive letter.
I can create a Network Place,  This also works.  But it will not allow me to MAP that "network place" to a drive letter.  I have tried multiple utilities that allow mapping of Drive letters to almost anything but they wont work to map to a
    Network Place.
The software that needs the mapped drive is a SQL database which runs on port 2004.  The program itself has no problems at all connecting to the server to run the database.  Even on systems which cannot map to the needed drive letter for the documents
referred to in the database.    Users can run it and look up all kinds of material but it it is only a half-solution since the database refers to files stored in a "common-mapped" drive letter.  Which I cannot Map.
I have tried every possible configuration of the VPN setup I could find, I have even tried a "Test System" with the NIC connected directly to the T1 Modem.  With all firewalls off and no AV software.  Even if that had worked,  there is no
way I could run like that.  But it didn't.  Same issues.  All this did was put the blame squarely on the User's ISP which was the only reason I did it.  I had to rule out even the slightest chance that it was something in our equipment.
This was already almost a certain fact since the same user could take their laptop to a WiFi Hotspot at a fast food restaurant and connect as well as map the drive.  As soon as they went back home, no drive.  On the ones I could convince to pay
the extra charges, if they switched to a business connection from their ISP, No Problems.
On most MiFi or other Cellular Internet devices, No Problem,  Although that had a habit of changing.  We had a few that worked for a while, then they got a software update for their MiFi which immediately blocked the ability to map.  Others
it would be that some models of Cellular HotSpot units worked while other would not work even if both came from the same carrier.
Coincidentally, we had none of these problems before two other events occurred:
One was the release of Server 2008 R2, (which was a kid of "surprise" change for all of us used to Server 2008 R1.  Welcomed changes, but not expected with a simple SP release.
The other was IPV6 finally became a reality:  June of 2012.
This left us with much head scratching as to what was the real cause of the problem.  It took months to narrow it down to port blocking by the Outside ISP's with a 100% certainty.  Even tried reloading a system with Server 2008 R1 just to rule
that out.  As well as disabling IPV6 on every network device.  The problem stayed with the User when Outside and which ISP they were connected to.
Currently we are using a mix of normal VPNs for those who can run them, and CLOUD access for those who can't.  Even this is problematic since we have to keep both the local copy and the cloud copy in constant sync so that everyone sees the same versions
of the same files on each one.
Sorry to make this so long but I wanted to cover everything to show that we tried it all.  The only thing left short of getting the ISP's to remove the port blocks would be to find a way to route the SMB file requests around port 445 in some way.
I have been told that this is easy enough if using a file system other than Windows but that is not an option even if true.
Thanks for the updates and ideas.  I keep hoping that eventually there will be some secure method for mapping a drive letter that does not depend on having port 445.

  • Firefox has prevented an outdated plugin 'adobe flash' from running. This didn't start until the latest Firefox release, and I don't use M$Winblows. Linux only

I just started started seeing this after the latest firefox release. I see it on M$Winblows at work, Linux and Mac at home, so it isn't activex related for me. I can't upgrade Flash for Linux since Adobe stopped supporting it, but I haven't had any issues up until the last week. And as far as Mac and Windows, they are up to date in patches. Once again engineers just love to make things better. If there was a better alternitive to Firefox I'd use it.

The outdated Flash plugins is not due to any Firefox version or updates but due to a blocklist of vulnerable Flash plugins made on Dec 11/12. The Firefox 31.3.0esr and 34 were released on December 1st and the updated Flash came out on Dec 9.
For Windows and Mac 16.0.0.235, 13.0.0.25'''9''' ESR and 15.0.0.24'''6''' are not vulnerable according to Adobe and are not on blocklist.
For Linux the Flash 11.2.202.42'''5''' is not vulnerable according to Adobe and is not on blocklist while 11.2.202.42'''4''' and older is. Adobe is still supporting the Flash 11.2 with security fixes.
Get choice of 16.0.0.235 or 13.0.0.25'''9''' ESR for Windows/Mac and the 11.2.202.42'''5''' for Linux at https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

  • Port 1935 required to be open?

FMS is installed on the same server running multiple sites in
IIS. Our corporate firewall is only allowing traffic on port 80. Do
we need to open port 1935?
Are there any work-arounds? Like, can we tell FMS to use an
    IP on port 80 instead?
(I've tried changing fms.ini settings, but not
    successful.)

You don't say what platform you are working on - and the answer is platform dependent. On windows the connection is initially established over the listener port - as previously mentioned the default is 1521, but check listener.ora if you have one. However, once that initial communication is made, the port is dynamically reassigned. If you database server is windows, you may have to use a variable such as USE_SHARED_SOCKET to bind the connections to one port, or use a firewall proxy to enable the communication between the websever and db server.

  • FMS server v3.5 filterd port 1935 via Prolexic Services

Hello all, we recently obtained the services of Prolexic.com for antiDdos protection. However when streaming rtmpe via port 1935 the movies buffer quite a bit..
I was wondering if there is anything i should be telling the folks at Prolexic to do to make the streaming better? They told me they are using TCP passthrough for that IP and port, but not sure if it still blocks anything...
    Anyone have experience with this?
test accounts can be made available if need be to test streaming...

  • Is it possible for a port to be closed/blocked on my Mac?

    Hi!
I have been trying to establish a video chat on a site that uses Macromedia Flash. I have the latest version of Flash (8) and my internet connection is quite speedy (512 Kb, or so the ISP claims...). The problem is everytime I try to connect to the server to initiate a video chat, it tells me "Port 1935" is blocked or closed on my end.
Of course, the first thing I did was to check my Firewall setttings: I have an exception for said port (1935), which means it should have no problems to send/recive info from the Flash server.
Next thing, I called my ISP and explained to them the situation. They claim they have no closed ports and that everything should work fine. I mean, I can use apps. like Messenger, BitTorrent, LimeWire, etc (They all need an specific open port to work properly). with no problem at all. Its only this Flash Video Chat that gives me headaches...
Any of you have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

Yeah, I tried an Online Port Scan and this is what I got:
    Scanning for Port 1935
    "Port Scan xxx.xxx.xx.xxx
    Tue, 22 Nov 2005 15:50:53 -0800
The host xxx.xxx.xx.xxx does not have a service running on port 1935 ()."

    "Port Scan xxx.xxx.xx.xxx

The host xxx.xxx.xx.xxx has a service running on port 21 (ftp).
The host xxx.xxx.xx.xxx does not have a service running on port 23 (telnet).
The host xxx.xxx.xx.xxx does not have a service running on port 53 (domain).

The host xxx.xxx.xx.xxx does not have a service running on port 110 (pop3).
The host xxx.xxx.xx.xxx does not have a service running on port 139 (netbios-ssn)."
And this is the very messed up thing, I have the port 1935 "open" on my Firewall... Or so it seems... I have no idea what is going on...

  • To release the sales order credit block by Customer Group

    Hi,
    1. I want to release the sales order credit block based on the Customer Group.
Normally we release the credit block using the t.code VKM3.
    2. When i am maintaining the credit using the FD32, under the status screen of Credit control area Tab, the field "Credit Horizon Date", when i am creating the credit limit on 17/05/08, the system will take this field by default ie 16/07/08. I have maintained as 12 months in horizon ie OVA8.
If any one could let me know, how the system is taking this date.
    Regards
    Ravishankar M

    Hi Ravi
Sap default horizon time is 2 month, thats why systym is taking  two months time,so if you want to change this as 12 month you can go to
OMO1 and select S66 then change it as month you want.
    Reward if it helps you

  • Why won't my "searchpreview" add-on work from my browser search box since Firefox updated to 3.6.16, but it works when I do it from the Google main page??

Since Firefox updated itself to 3.6.16 earlier today, when I search for anything in my Google search box on the browser, it always used to show me thumbnails when the Google page came up. Now there are no thumbnails appearing, except if I go on the Google main page and search from there, the thumbnails still appear. Whe it updated, the browser automatically searched for incompatability problems with my add-ons but nothing appeared to say Searchpreview was incompatible.

I cant seem to download and install the latest iphone software update. I have tried since the release and have been unsuccessful on more than 7 occasions and lost all the data on the process. Anyone have that problem an how do I fix this problem?

    Hi
Thanks but I have tried doing the above - when I said 7 times I was modest, its more like 15 times.
And I am referring to the 5.1 software update. I dont have wifi so I guess I will have to try that seeing that my husband also has the same problem - he has also tried downloading several times. It always times out en says that the connection is lost but yet there are always an internet connection and a decent signal once it stopped. Think it said error 32052 or something!
I am disappointed because the update includes inprovement on the battery life - did you guys notice any difference?

  • Blue Screen in Firefox 6 (same problem since Firefox 4!)

Don't know why this is happening at all, and it's been happening since Firefox 4, I submitted a problem then, too, and got zero help, but hey, maybe this time, right?
There is nothing special going on when I get the Blue Screen. This one occurred when Firefox was the only program running, I had about 6 tabs up (nothing major, I've had 20+ open without problems before version 4 came along). Basically, I'll be happily surfing away, I'll go to click on a different tab and my PC will freeze and I'll get the Blue Screen. The error message in the BSoD says something like "attempt to reset the display adapter has failed"...same problem I had with FF4.
Since the crash happens before Firefox can recognize it, I have no Firefox generated crash report (it's Blue Screened before it can create one, I guess) but I DO have the windows "there was a problem shutting down dialog" pasted here:
    Problem signature:

Any help would be superb. I'm just decided to give Firefox another chance when I heard 6 rolled out, since I completely skipped over 5 due to the problems I had with 4 I figured maybe they'd fixed the problem. Guess not. Until then, viva la Google Chrome, I guess. I'd prefer Firefox, but it doesn't seem like they want me using their product...
(Oh, before someone recommends I disable Flash like they did last time I submitted this problem, it doesn't matter. I get the blue screen whether the Flash plugin is turned on or not...so it's not "ATI's problem with Flash", before someone gives me THAT reason again...)

Sorry about the crash, and thanks for reporting it. This crash looks like it might be related to hardware-accelerated graphics. Try opening the "Advanced" section of the Firefox options window, and turn off the "Use hardware acceleration" option (under "Browsing" on the General tab). Then please let us know if you still have any problems.

Hello, I am writing as I am experiencing some issues with my favorite web browser after updating to Windows 8.1. Here are some details. I updated from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1 and ever since Firefox has run somewhat strangely. In particular when on sites with a lot of images like Facebook. It is like there is some kind of Flikr effect between the desktop and the images and between the images and the browser (almost like old 16 bit video games flikering). It is not too bad but it is an issue. I have tried resetting firefox and restarting the computer. I haven't tried a repair, and I haven't done an uninstall yet.

thank you for helping, the issue seems to have been caused by the hardware accelerator
